moonshine I didn't think there was much difference between NHS and private scan, private wasn't a medical one so they didn't 'check' baby so to speak. Scan itself was lovely but the people running the place were quite rough and yelled across the waiting room 'Melon is next as she's desperate for a tiddle' I was so embarrassed! and when we came out the bloke on reception shouted "did you get what you wanted?!" to which I replied "yes, a healthy baby" and he said "Oh yeah everyone says that" and rolled his eyes!

melon and moon I thought the difference between the private and nhs scan was night and day. Private- music candles dim lighting a great personable service nhs v clinical (I know it's supposed to be like that just hammered home that they are there to inspect baby development only. We're definitely going to have another private at around 25-30w

junosmum welcome and great name if your really the mum of a juno I love that name!!!!! I'm also manchester Smile

ready congrats on your two little girls Grin x

my scan despite being private does make sure baby is healthy ect looks for anomalies as it's governed by the CQC.. but I hope it's more about me seeing the baby as at my previous scans it's obviously always been to check the baby is okay and I only got a quick few looks Sad so I'm hoping to see alot more as I've paid for it... does anyone know if you do?

yokil I had a similar situation to its in Starbucks, I had a ham and cheese toastie and half way through the cheese changed consistency so I freaked out checked Google and read there ingredients which still didn't make it any better as it was mascapone but I couldn't be sure it was pasturised but I'm sure like spydie said once instance should be fine Smile

Missmartin we saw loads of the baby! It was amazing, she took loads of times to show us all about the baby and showed us arms and legs and feet etc as well as stomach and brain! So amazing!!

Yokyil I'm sure that it'll be ok, I had some cheese on how which I was scared about but all is well! Also was it hard glass cheese or soft?

moonshine25 · 09/08/2015 10:46

That was supposed to say goats cheese!! Haha. Hard goats cheese is fine according to nhs website and if it was cooked then I'm sure it'll be fine as you can have cooked Brie etc!

Amazing how many ladies have a 'B' bump too, I've never noticed any so felt quite alone but I gess if everyone does what I do and covers it with over bump stuff it's all hidden anyway... Thank you all for being honest!

I can't remember who mentioned goats cheese but the only one you're not allowed it the soft creamy 'Chèvre', because it's not pasteurised.

I was at cricket all day yesterday and got severely tempted by some crusty French bread and pate... In the end I scraped as much as I could off so there was the tiniest hint of pink on the bread and ate that... There was virtually nothing on it but it has flavoured the bread... My god it was good!!!

I've been generally sensible with food, but the other day threw caution to the wind at a buffet and had a little peppadew pepper thing stuffed with an unidentifiable soft cheese, and blooming nice it was too! Smile

Following on from the hair and b bellies confessions, is anyone else already starting to get stretchmarks? I've got a couple of red ones forming and am only 16+2. Saw some Palmers stuff in the shop yesterday for stretchmarks and I've heard of Bio Oil before, does anyone have any recommendations or am I better off just saving my money towards a tummy tuck ?

MissM I think it's highly likely that a chain like Starbucks only use pasteurised cheese.

I've just looked in a full length mirror for the first time in over a week and can't believe how much my bump has grown. I love it. Am also definitely over the worst of the sickness, though still a bit nauseous from time to time, it's much easier to handle. Really starting to feel some proper glow some of the time Grin

Being away on hols and eating out every night it got a bit hard sticking to the food rules (because I'm also gluten-free and have gone off all fish whilst preg). So I cheated a bit - plenty of runny eggs, some pink meat (but not bloody). I figured that if it's a decent restaurant, the chances of me getting ill are pretty low - I've only ever had food poisoning abroad. Still makes you worry though!

Sorry to hear about some of the stresses people have had, it's not really fair to have those on top of being pg. Fishers if it's any comfort to you, I have history of mh problems and with some of the tiredness and anxiety I've had, I've seen some warning signs too - it's good to be aware of it, I've put some of my strategies into action, but I'm also happy to know there's help available if I need it.

Not looking forward to telling work though. I suppose I'm lucky to have been able to leave it this long, but I'm going to be in school this week for results and I think my bump is too obvious now to ignore, so I will have to bite the bullet Hmm.

I've been Bio Oiling twice a day since the beginning of the second trimester. My mum suffered really badly with stretch marks so trying to be as good as possible to reduce the amount I get. I have none yet. Some at work did the same with twins and didn't get one!
19+6.

Valancy I'm going for bio oil, I've seen it really fade some existing scars I had. I don't think you can prevent stretch marks, though keeping your skin well moisturised and supple will help, but I think the oil will definitely fade them. It costs, but smells lovely and makes my skin lovely and soft Smile

(I've also seen it work wonders on friends' facial scars from sports injuries)

I have had stretch marks in the last few weeks of both my pregnancies valancy but they do fade eventually. I used palmers previously but this time I started with aloe Vera gel and have moved onto the cussons bump and me stretch mark cream. No idea if any of it does any good but at least it smells nice (and was on offer).

I've been applying baby oil to my boobs and belly for a while, my mum swore by it. It's pretty cheap too.
Top tip, don't let DH watch or he'll insist on helping and you'll never get anything done Hmm

I've done extensive reading about stretch marks...my good friend was only 20 and used this amazing oil by some top end luxury brand that apparently avoided stretch marks and she got quite a few...I think certain people are more likely to get them and it's luck. However have been moisturising every day as part of my routine since I was about 10 and keeping up the routing with ultra rich moisturiser so let's see how it goes...
I just seen the christmas/new year thread are on their 2nd thread...we're on out 8th...we're such chatter - boxes I love it!!! Blush

The equipment at private scan places is so much better than NHS (fair enough as it's not taxpayers money that funds it!), I've heard the heartbeat at each private scan but can only see it at the NHS scans. I do think though it depends on the sonographer, the one I had at my 12 week dating scan was so cold and unfriendly but I had one at EPAU when I was 16 weeks after an episode of spotting and she was so lovely, pointing out the baby saying look he's sucking his thumb, let me look at it for ages and printed some pics for me which she really didn't have to do.

I'm having a private scan today! The place I go to is having a charity event, £10 for a scan so I'm booked in for 2:30pm! Will be so nervous when I go though I still worry about baby so much.

Ooh stretch mark chat yey! I've been using Palmers cocoa butter stretch mark cream, do anyone with kids have any feedback on it? Is bio oil generally better?

SleepyDragon Oh my, pate.... I would kill for some! My husband has taken the role of pate police though Hmm not been so good on the cold meats though, I'm addicted to charcuterie!!!

I'm using baby oil, mum swears by it. Just rub it all over body before I get out of shower, pat dry, it's brilliant for moisturising generally. I have stretch marks on my thighs from a growth spurt when I was younger, so totally expecting to get them on my bump once it finally appears!

mrschatty · 09/08/2015 12:38

spydie I had stretch marks on thighs as a teen too due to growth and you'll never guess what worked- Avon stretch mark remover! Every day they got better....I think I need an Avon lady thinking about it now...

oops I seem to be the only one not applying something to my growing bump.. but I'm just going to buy the Palmers butter pump because despite being a size 8 I had some unsightly strech marks on my hips as I have a big bum lol and that has made them nearly totally fade now so it definitely works Grin some people skin are more prone to strech marks than others though

blackandwhite I hope you don't mind me asking this but have you had help for your anxiety on the past or have you come up with your coping strategies on your own?

I've suffered with anxiety in the past and have been pretty bad in pregnancy. I've gone to the doctor about it before but he was very unhelpful so I've never actually had help for it, so am very interested to see what others who suffer do to cope.

looking in my experience of anxiety when I go doctors all they want to do is prescribe me a mild anti depressive which I refused to take as I'm a pill a phobe.. they referred me to cbt which I never actually got the referral through for so that was crap. I get panic attacks alot especially when I'm at work but I have no idea what triggers it, ive been to occupational health but nothing helps me but me.
I go into flight or fight mode and the only thing that helps me talking to myself.. to calm me down. I give myself a rating from 1-10 of how bad I feel then try to cool myself down and think about good things.. I must sound mad but that's the only thing that helps me

Report
Oysterbabe · 09/08/2015 14:42

You should chase up that CBT referral. I deal with a lot of people at work who have PTSD and CBT has done wonders for some of them.

Mama Mio tummy butter is amazing - a little more expensive but smells so good (palmers smell triggers my sickness) and honestly lasts forever. One tub has lasted me over 10 weeks and I'm only half way through.

They also do a firming boob one which is very cooling!!
