Hi! Anyone else around yet who's expecting in April 2016? I've searched Mumsnet but can't find a thread- apologies if I've missed it. Just got my BFP today due date would be 2nd April (so the NHS website tells me). Would be great to have company on this journey!!

Hope everyone doing ok. I am around 7 weeks now and the nausea kicked in just before 6. Had been coping ok but ended up needing a day off work yesterday as I couldn't work through it. Working from home today and feeling slightly better. Anyone got any genius tips for reducing nausea?!

meganlilly89 · 14/08/2015 11:06

Please let me know also for nausea tips..

Its been getting worse as the week has gone on. I couldn't eat my dinner last night and had to let my dh do the tesco online shop because the thought of looking at food turned my tummy! Just been to collect it and god knows what he is planning for dinners lol!

Mummyofonesofar · 14/08/2015 11:24

Keep putting food in your mouth to ease nausea.

I struggled badly with nausea and vomiting when pg with DD, right up to almost the end. My friend had the same and ended up in hospital a few times with dehydration, but second time round (her DD2 is now 4 months) her GP recommended she take vitamin B6, I think 50mg a day. It totally solved her nausea (doesnt help vomiting), and from googling it seems like a lot of women find it helps. The science is mixed - basically looks like it's known that it helps and is safe, but they dont understand why it works or what the maximum safe limit is. Like with any vitamin supplement, too much of it isn't good. But it seems like 50mg over 3 doses is standard. I'm keeping it in mind for if things get bad again this time round - only low level nausea so far. Will ask my midwife about it at booking in. Suggest others look into it and ask their midwives/gps - don't take my word for it!

LaPampa · 14/08/2015 11:42

Nausea has set in here too, at 5+3 which is earlier than my last pregnancy. Had to go to bed at 9.15 for the past 3 nights - lying down seems to help. It seems to start around lunchtime at work. Thankfully working from home today.

waxweasel · 14/08/2015 11:44

Alternatively, if you can face it, you could eat foods rich in B6 and see if it helps (marmite, brown rice, bananas, avocado, etc). I'm planning on trying some daily marmite from tonight to see if it makes a difference....can't face any of the others.

waxweasel · 14/08/2015 11:46

LaPampa, I worked from home yesterday and spent most of it lying down and cursing everytime anyone dared to call or email :) am in the office today feeling utterly rough but trying not to show it. And my only meetings run right over lunchtime!

waxweasel · 14/08/2015 11:56

Oh also I swore by these last time. Genuinely the only thing that stopped me vomiting on the tube. Expensive, but I couldnt find another sour sweet that would work as well.
There's also a version with B6 added to it but I didnt try those, dont think they existed.

If you have nausea and vomiting the obns here are quick to prescribe medicines. I've managed to avoid them so far but another mother who is 15wks along is still taking them. It means she can get out of bed and care for her DS. It's also really bad to get dehydrated when you are pregnant. If in doubt beat to go to a clinic that can hook you up to some saline. Our local urgent care center can do this.

TriJo · 14/08/2015 12:10

I have a bag of cashew nuts on my desk and I'm eating a couple of them every time I'm feeling a bit bleurgh, it's helping a little...

FussyHendricks · 14/08/2015 12:35

Seconding Mummys tip. Eat eat eat!

I also find sipping ice cold water & eating ginger nut biscuits help.

Now craving Marmite Waxweasal - that's my dinner sorted Grin

CarrotVan · 14/08/2015 12:59

Last time I read that people run hot or cold on nausea so if you are a colder person mint helps but if you are a hotter person ginger helps. I'm cold

MsGlitterJunkie · 14/08/2015 13:05

Thanks fussy, just back from my scan and am very happy indeed. I saw the tiny baby with it's heart beating away Smile right size for gestation and heartbeat rate spot on what it should be so all is well. Hugely relieved as my stress and anxiety levels were sky high before I went in! So far, so good!

I'm managing to escape any morning sickness but my boobs are v painful and huge and am v tired, bit of abdominal pain now again but that's about it symptom-wise......for now!!

LaPampa · 14/08/2015 13:18

Thanks for the tips. Will try some Marmite now! My doctors appt isn't until 25 Aug - been hard to find an appt which is out of work hours which means I'll be over 7 weeks before I even get referred on. Was thinking about booking a private scan - has anyone had one in north or central London?

LaPampa · 14/08/2015 13:19

Msglitter - glad it went well!

FussyHendricks · 14/08/2015 13:39

Fantastic news MsGlitter so pleased it all went well!

LaPampa that's frustrating. You're entitled to time off work for antenatal appointments. If you don't want to tell work just yet, could you claim to have a dentist/doctor appointment so you can be seen earlier during working hours?

Re scans we might be booking with this company www.ultrasound-direct.com/clinic-locations/ who have one local to us in Herts, but they seem to have clinics all over. Sure others may be able to give personal recommendations though...

jbailey · 14/08/2015 13:41

Afternoon everyone.

Congratulations to you all.

I'm completely new to MN but was having a look as my DW and I are now expecting our first baby April 2016. The Dr gave us 10th April as the expected due date.

I think we are both still in the 'it hasn't really sunk in' phase at the moment as we only found out a week ago.

Little has changed so far apart from my DW now feeling tired pretty much all the time.

I don't really know what to ask/ say. I was just after any advice anyone can give me or my DW that might actually prepare us for what's coming up.

CottonSock · 14/08/2015 13:44

Hi, I'm here after my bfp this week. Hello all!

TriJo · 14/08/2015 13:51

Welcome Cotton :)

CottonSock · 14/08/2015 13:52

Cottonsocks 37 1dd (3mc) due 20 April and trying not to freak due to mc history..

LaPampa · 14/08/2015 14:10

I know, I'm just pretty busy at work and have a 3yo too so is easier to not have to. I'm assured by the receptionist it makes no difference to the referral times. Haha

Definitelysometime · 14/08/2015 14:23

Hello newbies, and congrats glitter on your scan - how exciting.

Pampa I had a scan on Harley St at 8 wks last time. It was about £100 but we got pics and a little clip of the heartbeat. It really helped things feel real before we went ahead and told family etc. might do the same again this time as I'm struggling to feel pregnant despite the regular nausea waves

TriJo · 14/08/2015 14:25

We're getting something similar on Tuesday - have an appointment for after work with a scan place on Harley St.

Newbiehome · 14/08/2015 15:01

I've got my early scanned booked for next Friday morn at a Harley St place too. Just think £100 is worth it for the peace of mind it will hopefully provide!

waxweasel · 14/08/2015 15:07

We're going with Fetal Medicine Centre on Harley St, seems v highly recommended and the fee goes to research into fetal medicine
