Those interested in nursing chairs, the IKEA Poäng does a great job at a fraction of the cost. I've used it just now when DS woke up from nap and needed settling. It does a lovely feathery rocking motion. I would get leather though as you can just wipe off any milky spit-ups.

Sorry I appear to be name dropping a lot recently. I'm not on commission for any of these products I'm endorsing! Wink

hotcrossbun83 · 24/07/2015 10:22

Ds has a mini Poang, it's the cutest thing ever

kep1979 · 24/07/2015 10:44

orange we complete on Wednesday - going to be a busy weekend but dh won't let me do anything so it's a bit odd! Good luck for your packing and move! And snap with the headaches and backache!

I had an IKEA poang for my boys too, I fancy something bigger and snugglier this time, and would love an old fashioned rocker but want more padding!

fishermanswife1 · 24/07/2015 10:44

That made me laugh crumble. It's really having recommendations. I'm lostin a sea of makes and types of everything as a newbie.

One thing I do know... The hunger has struck!

stupidgirl45 · 24/07/2015 11:20

I agree with crumble - we have a poang for DS and it was comfortable and v. inexpensive. I would love a dutalier though - so if you can get a bargain 2nd hand I'd get one. Otherwise yes, leather Poang and footstool is v comfy. I used to sit on it when pregnant too and play music to the bump. No time this time round hahaha

MissMartin sorry to hear you're so poorly. In case you didn't know, on the main pregnancy board there is a HG thread which has had some really useful tips and company even if you've not got full blown HG. Nausea can be so horrendous and if you can't work/socialise it has a huge impact on your life. gentle hugs I've been there. Re: gp and meds in 1st tri - to be honest v. little is "safe" mainly because they can't test on pregnant women - but this website should help a lot /reassure www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/women-suffering/treatments/

Re: prams etc - I have heard excellent things about Uppababy Vista. We lived in a tiny flat with DS so bought a Bee+ - this time we're just using that but with the new carrycot that clips on. Just to say that often the carry cot bit can cost extra to the buggy part of prams, so watch you don't get caught out on price (if buying new that is!)

I'm really looking forward to getting my baby carriers out again - are there any other carrier/sling fans? We have a snuggy caboo, a connecta and an ergo (and a BabyBjorn but I didn't like it).

Symptoms wise, aside from DS giving me his lurgy I'm okay atm, as long as I don't over do it. Tired easily but nausea fading. Still having a lot of anxiety though and ante-natal depression still there grrrr

Hope everyone has nice weekends - its my wedding anniversary :)

14+2

mrschatty · 24/07/2015 11:26

martin sorry your still sick love Flowers
firsttimenewbie I have the silver cross 3d! It seems great so far I've easily been able to dismantle assemble etc
stupidgirl were celebrating our anniversary this weekend too! Going for a posh meal! My actual date is 29th but who wants to celebrate on a Wednesday ha we've been married 2 years (together for 7!)

MissMartin10 · 24/07/2015 11:31

stupidgirl ive just been prescribed cyclizine.. thanks for the info i really apreciate it Grin x
... i NEVER take tablets but maybe i should as i can't afford to lose any more money Sad

AlohaMama · 24/07/2015 11:39

sorry for the sickness missmartin - you have my full sympathies.

stupidgirl i've previously just used a boba carrier which i loved, but wanted to get wraps/slings for the baby this time to start off. was feeling overwhelmed with the options but one friend just gave me a homemade stretchy wrap, and the other a maya ring sling, so i guess that saves me having to work out what to buy!! I'm expecting ot use it a bit, as we don't have a carrycot for our pram, just a car seat attachment and you're not supposed ot have them in the car seat too long, so i expect i'll be swapipng between car seat and sling.

happy anniversary stupidgirl and mrschatty. i'm trying to persuade DP to take the kids overnight in Oct to we can celebrate our anniversary without kids. It will be 11 years - we should have done something special last year but we bought a house instead! It's either that or go to one of these family friendly hotels where babysitting and creche is included.

stupidgirl45 · 24/07/2015 11:41

MrsChatty Happy anniversary :) Flowers We are 6 years tomorrow (together 13years) We are going to a nice local pub with lots of yummy food that doesn't seem to hit any of my random food aversions!

MissMartin - I know what you mean re: sick pay. I've been off since June 7th and due back next week. I don't get any pay ecxcept Stat pay so it is stressful. Please don't worry about teling your OH though, he will support you, you are properly ill and it's really hard. People who've not been through it dont understand at all. When I was preg with no1 I was very bad with contstant nausea for weeks and didn't realise I had it worse than others until this time round. And this time it's been so much worse (sob!) but thats partly due to mental health stuff also and external factors. But anyway glad the links were helpful. I really hope the meds kick in fast :)

In other news, I have finally persuaded my toddler to put some underpants on.... "Mummy can we go to tesco with no pants, it will be so funny....." sighhhhhh

ValancyJane · 24/07/2015 11:47

14 weeks and in the second trimester today, and I have a bit of a bump going on!

In the interests of full disclosure I was a size 16 before I got pregnant and this dress is clingy. But it's still a bit of a bump :)

mrschatty · 24/07/2015 11:48

Omg you ladies have some real time on ne in your marriages!! Congratulations Flowers
Oh no martin it's rubbish that money is a problem too it's so unfair

Brooke113 · 24/07/2015 11:50

miss Martin just popping in quickly to say, I was so unwell between weeks 5-9 that I was almost put on a drip as I couldn't even drink I was so nauseous, at the hospital they prescribed be cyclizine, but have to say for me it did absolutely nothing, and I was back a week later where they tried me with something like nithisterone, which was amazing! For the first time is weeks I felt human again :)

stupidgirl45 · 24/07/2015 11:51

Alohamama I struggled with a loaned ring sling but I think my son was too big (12mo) by the time I tried it - although they are fine for that age... I found it hard to adjust. They are so lovely and snuggly though especially with newborns.. I really want a mei tai but as this is last baby I jjust can't justify it ....OH is v dubious about my carrier love. Wraps are so beautiful and I'd love one but my faves are all £80+ - Erna im wonderland etc and we don't know the flavour yet. I'm just keeping an eye on the sling boards and then if I spot a bargain once I'm more pregnant I may go for it.
I'd love a harris tweed connecta also and or a pod or a wrap conversion. dribble

I hope you manage to get away in October. I've not managed a night away from DS yet and he'll be 3 in Sept...!!!

lilyb84 · 24/07/2015 12:03

Welcome back jellypie and happy anniversaries mrschatty and stupidgirl! I was only a few weeks pg on our 3rd anniversary in May so still felt fine and was able to enjoy a nice Mexican meal out!

missmartin sorry you're still feeling so ill, but glad you've got some more time off. Hope it lifts for you soon.

My headache is still here, and I'm bloody knackered. Is anyone else constantly thirsty with a really dry mouth despite literally drinking litres of water?!

14 weeks today!

lilyb84 · 24/07/2015 12:08

And definitely a bit of a bump there valancy!

My tummy's much more rounded the last couple of days and can't suck it in any more. Not sure it's quite 'bump' yet but if I stand a certain way I can start imagining...

Happy Anniversaries Grin
i never wanted to get married until i fell pregnant. We've been together 7 & ahalf years since i was 15! Hehe. .. thanks stupidgir & brooke... I'll see how these go hopefully they might work.. fx!
I don't have money worries as such im just annoyed how because ive worked at the company 3 years im only entitled to 60 full paid sick days( which i know is amazing-im not taking it for granted) but if you have worked there longer you can take upto 6months full 6 months half! Luckly we can survive off dps wage alone but i was trying my hardest to save for Mat leave but i supose its only 1week wage im losing... right im going to stop whinging now... happy thoughts Wink

valancy yep you have a definate cute bump
kep ooo how exciting.. bet you can't wait! Bet it will be amazing once you get all your work done on it Grin .. i bought my house back in feb and still have loadssssss to do!
I really wanna paint my front door as my next job Smile

MissMartin10 · 24/07/2015 12:16

Aww you too lily cute little bump Smile i really love looking at bump pics and scans.. has anyone else took a pic each week of their growing bump ??i started at 8weeks

ValancyJane · 24/07/2015 13:26

Aww lily definitely a neat little bump there! My Mum pointed out the other day that our family tend to end up with the enormous size of a house type bumps, so I think baby is just getting a headstart on that.

Miss I know what you mean, we're not married and I wasn't too fussed, but now I'm pregnant I feel as though I would like to be married (we're not engaged at the moment, but we both do want to get married). I'm currently trying to convince OH that after the baby is born we really should just go to the registry office one afternoon with close family and friends, then go for a nice meal out somewhere and be done with it, but I think he wants a big family wedding. Hope you feel better soon, sounds like you're having such a rough time Sad

OH has just outed my pregnancy to our next door neighbour who is very excited! She already passes us things over the fence for the garden and odds and ends for the cat, so god knows what she'll be sending over the fence now!! I still feel a bit weird telling people I'm pregnant though!

kep1979 · 24/07/2015 13:33

missmartin yep it's exciting! Hope you start feeling better soon.

mrsc and stupidgirl happy anniversaries Flowers

lily and valancy fab bumps! I love bump pics, will have to take one later as I've definitely grown.

stupidgirl can you please give a quick guide to the difference between slings and wraps - and the various types? I'd like to try one when Bean is little - dh wants a "proper" carrier, but I'd like something softer and snugglier, and perhaps where I can breastfeed too. I must admit I'm overwhelmed by the choice and have no idea where to start!

Brooke113 · 24/07/2015 13:42

Completely having a baby brain day Blush I've just looked in the medical Box and it was the cyclizine that was amazing, the other one did absolutely nothing xx

BeeMyBaby · 24/07/2015 13:58

Grrr, only just realised my photo was sideways - it was the right way up in the new app.

stupidgirl yes I love carriers and carried dd2 whenever we went into town/ shopping etc as its just so much easier than a pushchair. I used a bjorn with DD1 and it was horrendous followed by a metal structured carrier at 9 months which was also horrendous. With DD2 I used a moby wrap for the first three months until she got more neck support then moved onto an unbranded mei tei, and then when she was 2 we got her a toddler mei tei which we still use (and sometimes DD1, now 5, tries to have a shot). I still have the moby left over from this one but need to get a new mei tei as I accidentally shrunk the baby one in the dryer.

Just bought this book
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/0091954592/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1437743240&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&keywords=hypnobirthing&dpPl=1&dpID=41pWZpxBQ-L&ref=plSrch
really want to give the whole hypnobirthing thing a go.

stupidgirl45 · 24/07/2015 14:57

kep1979 A sling is IME usually a fabric baby carrier eg: (brands) moby, close caboo, kari. A carrier is any sort of baby carrier from Baby Bjorn, to lesser known more ergonomic carriers like ergos/connectas/bobas/manducas or a soft sling or a wrap. A wrap is basically a long piece of fabric that you wrap around you and the baby and tie it in different ways to carry the baby. This website has some good info describing the different carriers (much better than my amateur attempt!) southlondonslings.co.uk/sling-info/

Everyone tends to prefer different carriers depdning on body shape/baby so it can be good to go to a local sling library to try them oout, if you can. A lot of people get on well with the soft stretchy slings (moby / close caboo) whilst they have a tiny new born or also baby bjorn although I found that less comfy round the house. It's once they get heavier you then have a bigger choice. I like my connecta and ergo because I wore my son on my back from about 6mo. It was so useful for short trips out or into London or just when he was poorly and I needed to get stuff done. I can bore on about this for England!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 24/07/2015 15:13

Useful link Juniper thanks.

I made the mistake of reading this book last night...got to the page on epidurals....I don't know which frightens me more, one of those or childbirth, eeeeeeek! Shock. So who's had one? I think I need to hear....

spydie · 24/07/2015 15:30

Happy anniversaries!!! We too are celebrating tomorrow, 4 years of marriage, been together 12.5 years!

Let's all hope the weather improves!

Blackandwhitecat3 - work colleague said her epidural was fabulous and would recommend one! She's done with and without and said it was 100% worth it.... I'm won't be thinking about how it's done between now and then, I've seen enough spinal taps in my time that they make me go ewwww but I'm convinced I'll get to a point where that won't really be of much of a concern Wink
