Hi all, just a quick question. Does anyone have an experience of the Cosatto Giggle 2 travel systems? Me and OH have seen one in Mothercare and they're doing whole travel system with free car seat for £430. We both love the pattern and it seems easy enough to fold up/down etc and quite compact. Just to get opinions really? Thanks.

fishermanswife1 · 02/08/2015 12:32

Hi teenie. Good question! DH and I went to mothervare and saw the giggle 2 last weekend. We like the oyster 2 too, but were impressed with the forethought deal. Read around for reviews and if I'm honest the mumsnet cosatto giggle 2 review thread put us off it. Could be worth googling cossato mumsnet review and taking look. I'm still trying to find more feedback on the oyster 2.

Glad I be read you guys talking about B hicks too. Never new you could get them this early!

fishermanswife1 · 02/08/2015 12:33

Sorry for the auto correct typos! Bloody phone! Think that kind of makes sense...

TeenieDeenie · 02/08/2015 12:36

Ah thanks for that fisher I didn't know there was a thread. I'll have a read now. Smile

TeenieDeenie · 02/08/2015 12:50

Ok so we won't be going for that. The thing that clinched it was the review stating as it appeared on BBC watchdog many stores now have it on offer. Thanks again Fisher!

melonface · 02/08/2015 13:54

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend ladies. Can I ask what you're doing about moses baskets/cribs/cots? I really don't want to waste money on a moses basket and wondered if baby can go straight in a cot in with us and sleep in pram carrycot in the day? first time mum and trying not to be too 'precious first born' My Granny has got the hump with me as she's bought me and 2nd hand basket but I've turned it down and a new mattress and sheets came to the same price as a brand new one! I'm finding the older generation think we're going over the top with all the new safe sleep guidelines.

melonface · 02/08/2015 13:58

PS on the subject of dreams mine are getting a bit fruity too! had a lovely one about Leonardo DiCaprio last night!! Wink Wink

crumble74 · 02/08/2015 14:01

missmartin BH can start from 16 weeks! Enjoy, the first time round I was quite surprised but now they're like an old friend. Wink They shouldn't hurt at all but it is a funny sensation.

MissSMartin · 02/08/2015 14:07

melon I've got a cot for the nursery for when baby is 6m+ then ill have a chicco bedside crib next to my bed then a moses basket in the living room.. i know that may seem alittle excessive but im a ftm aswell i how fir atleast 3 so they will all be put to good use Grin ..
i myself wouldn't mind a second hand basket aslong as like you said new mattress/sheets! Smile (but saying that my pram dosent have a carrycot as the carseat clips straight on for nb's)

crumble oh i have 5 days left then before the potential of them starting.. im abit scared lol

MissSMartin · 02/08/2015 14:09

hope for*

fishermanswife1 · 02/08/2015 14:56

No worriesteenie. I didn't want to influence your decision and say "I wouldn't" but thought you should see the reviews and make up your mind as.... I wouldn't after seeing them lol.

melon ftm here too. It's a blooming minefieldof sleep choices isn't it! We are going for Moses basket but as we aren't getting a carry cot, but a pushchair with Kay flat position and new born support. And plan to put baby in cot as soon as it's outgrown the Moses basket. As we can fit cot into bedroom if need be. We were going to go for a second hand basket, but as you say, found th st buying the new mattress etc added up to the same cost as a new one anyway! But I may change my mind again next week! There are just so many options!

SleepyDragon · 02/08/2015 15:11

Thanks Brickie my SIL has given me her BP monitor and I'm going to self check it and book myself in with my GP for extra advice before continuing taking them I think.

At first the consultant said we'd see how it goes then took another reading 5min later after he'd scared the life out of me and it was 147. Hardly surprising given he'd just given me the news but the tests should have been 4hr apart.

Nightfall1983 · 02/08/2015 16:35

RE sleeping, last time we had a moses basket in our room and then the pram which we chose had a proper mattress and was safe for overnight sleeping so we used that during the day downstairs AND when we went to visit people (which we did a lot) used it at night at their houses - it was very handy. DS was a fairly small baby and lasted in the moses/pram till 5 months. Luckily for us our cotbed fit in our room and we kept him in with us till he was a year.

Whoever asked if its ok to out them straight in a cot in your room - absolutely! No harm at all and they will be used to the cot from the very beginning (and unlike us you probably won't install it in the nursery and then have to move it to the bedroom). They will look very very tiny in it to begin with, possibly a bit bare but it doesn't matter, just don't be tempted to fill the space with fluffy things which could be dangerous (both for suffocation and also important to keep air flowing around the cot to avoid overheating). The only thing to note, and it does depend entirely on the layout of your room is that maybe the moses basket would fit closer to your bed, which would save you a lot of movement in the early weeks but it depends on your room.

We have a slight change around this time, our new house has smaller rooms and it won't be possible/easy to fit the cot in our room but BIL/SIL have a bedside cosleeper which we will borrow (Will get new mattress), its bigger than a moses basket so fingers crossed will last till baby is in his/her own room, otherwise serious thinking will be needed! We will then use the moses basket in the lounge and still have the pram for overnights away from home.

Phew! That was long!! PS since we are talking sleeping I thought I'd share: I adore bags sleeping bags and DS has only just stopped using them at 2.10 but you should note that they can't be used till baby is (I think) 8lb13oz or similar and thus you might need to have an alternative for the early weeks/months - DS was 7lb3oz and didn't make it in to the sleeping bag for 2 months iirc.

brickiemum2 · 02/08/2015 16:47

sleepy I was getting results like that and higher all the time so I asked for a 24 home monitor and shortly after that I had my night in hospital with the bleeding so was monitored over another 24 hours. On both those occasions my bp was nowhere near as high as a single (or quickly repeated) bp test. They have now written "white coat syndrome/labile bp" on my notes so any future decisions about whether my bp is a problem will be made after home monitoring in a calm environment only. I always thought that my extreme bad side effects on the labetalol was caused in part by my bp not actually being as high as it appeared to be when they tested it in a high stress environment.
Your gp should be able to offer a 24 hour home monitor to confirm your true background bp.

brickiemum2 · 02/08/2015 16:49

Ps....when checked in a high stress environment mine is easily 155/97 but at home or relaxing in hospital as an overnight patient it was 132/68.
That's a massive difference just due to anxiety over having it tested.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 02/08/2015 17:46

Brixton Hicks at 16 weeks, whhaaaaaaaaaat!??! I had no idea. What do they feel like?

Still can't feel movement, but then, I have so much wind going round my gut it's difficult to feel anything else Smile

Pugmumlondon · 02/08/2015 18:45

Yikes busy day!!

Picked up the chair - delighted with it!! Although it did require a 45 min drive to Hertfordshire!

Re notes - mine are yellow and I'm being very diligent and carrying them everywhere. Partly because I always have an extra bag for paperwork, heels, lunch etc...

Re cots and sleeping. My initial plan had been a Moses for the bedroom and a cot for theirs. But now I really like the idea of one of the side sleeping cots. My mum is insisting that if we don't move the baby into its own room after 6 weeks we will never get any sleep. I'm still not keen. We'll see! I've been looking at them on eBay as they're so pricey new but DH not keen on purchasing anything at this stage.

On a side note. We are (I don't want to but I have to tread carefully) planning on going to South Africa at the end of March (DHs brothers wedding and first chance to see all of his family since the baby) The baby will be less than 2 months old. anyone know what the requirements would be about passports etc? Too young to have their own? How long would it take it sort? I'm not keen for all sorts of reasons - cost, travel, stress and the heat - but just want to be respectful of his need to see his family too. Agh!

Pugmumlondon · 02/08/2015 18:46

Ps. I would lose it if I had Bh at this stage. You're all so calm! And yes also with the er vivid dreams Blush

MaybeMrsMum2016 · 02/08/2015 18:49

Didn't know you could have Braxton Hicks this early!

Spent last night with DH at his friend's house as he lives far away now and we haven't visited yet. The sleeping arrangements were not good. We had to share a single camping air mattress, urgh! So neither of us slept very well but it was good to see his friend again.

In other news, I finally got round to making shortbread!! Tastes pretty good too! Smile

Nightfall1983 · 02/08/2015 19:16

pug baby has to have its own passport. It's not too hard to arrange and at that time of year shouldn't take too long but you will be cutting it a little fine so have it in your minds to get a move on :) first stage is registering the birth - this can take upto 6 weeks depending on your local authority. If you told them you are in a rush they may let you do it sooner? Some LAs register in the hospital so you can do it on day one!

Then you need a passport photo, for a tiny baby this can't be a booth but if you are confident and read up on the guidelines you could take it yourself, alternatively high street places like max spielman do them. We got DSs from Costco, they were great and very cheap but you do have to be members. Then you've got the form to fill in, you could get this and fill it in in advance if you were organised? You need an appropriate person to sign the backs of the photos and countersign the form - remember they are signing that they know you, not baby. Send off form with photos and birth cert (which you get when you register birth). It could take a while, who knows with passports? But that's not a busy time of year, DSs first password took less than two weeks...

hotcrossbun83 · 02/08/2015 19:39

I think you can pay for express passport service? Dh booked an appointment for ds's and then got it a few days later, but he does work near the passport office so was easy. We got the birth certificate on the day when we registered him but had to wait a couple of weeks for an appointment so make sure you book one quickly after the birth - put it on someone else's to do list because you won't!

Pugmumlondon · 02/08/2015 19:41

Thanks nightfall. I'm not due until the 25 jan so we will be cutting it seriously fine. I think we'll suck it and see at the time. I'm probably (sounds harsh but it's true) going to put the ball firmly in his court. If he wants to sort it then he can. I honestly don't know if we will be able to get our shit together when we'll be still trying to understand what to do!!

Pugmumlondon · 02/08/2015 19:43

Thanks hotcross - again; if he wants to arrange it all then he can!! I'm not going to stress myself sorting it all out when it's not a top priority. We can go at a later stage - his brother didn't come over for our wedding (or send a gift!) so I don't feel bad for bailing!
