Hiya - just thought an alternative place for those of us on our 2nd or more pregnancies might be a good idea. I just found out and already it's very different than the first time!

I'm on #2, EDD 25/3/16, one DS 2yrs and 2 months.

I had a very early booking appt at 6 weeks because I was going to China with work and we discussed birth options because I had EMCS. I was induced due to gestational diabetes at 40+6, meconium in waters, over-reacted to induction pessary as already in natural labour, then failure to progress after 16 hrs and distressed baby. MW said I would be consultant-led and checked for gest diabetes throughout pregnancy.

I've expressed a wish to try for VBAC as I had a lot of issues and negative feelings after the EMCS and desperately want to try. If I get advised I need to be induced however I'd rather go for ELCS then go through that hell again. Very interested to have a proper debrief with consultant though, as I have no real clue as to what went wrong first time round.

LastOneDancing · 13/08/2015 12:44

LCR - that is exactly how I feel too. I feel a real need to try VBAC because I tormented myself something rotten after the EMCS, but I'd much rather go for ELCS than be induced.

I have all sorts of ideas this time, not trying to rush my body into labour, trying to keep upright and mobile for longer, NO epidural and trying to to get so off my face on entinox.

But you wait - an hour in ill be screaming 'bring me ALL the drugs!!!''

SunnyL · 13/08/2015 12:50

My decision will probably depend on baby position. Last time I had a back to back baby and it was a 65 hour labour including 3 hours of pushing. I was told that sometimes your pelvis shape means that baby can't help but be back to back.

It was good to be mobile for the first 2 days but the final 5 hours were exhausting. i keep watching OBEM and the ladies having epidurals and think 'why didn't i do that?'.

Raeside · 13/08/2015 13:31

I had a wonderful ELCS first time around and I'll be going for the same again, no question. Haven't a bad word to say about an ELCS. Was walking within 5hrs, driving in three weeks, and the whole thing was so relaxed. What happened to DS post-birth was a whole different thing and in fact it was a positive he wasn't worn out by a long delivery, in the end...

And I'm prob failing as a woman (don't care!) by not wanting to tempt fate with a vaginal delivery. I'm too old and too podgy for that to go without likely intervention. And I'd refuse all and any intervention, inc induction, so might as well go for planned CS than end up in EMCS anyway.

!!

MW reckons ELCS unlikely without clinical reason - though she didn't know anything about my previous delivery so I don't know if I actually have a clinical reason or not.
All I know is that I'm feeling very sad and scared right now Sad

Raeside · 13/08/2015 15:40

Thursday check out the NICE guidelines about CS and if you're genuinely terrified of going through another labour because of what happened last time then you have grounds for maternal request. You may have to jump through some hoops (I had ten separate appts, was ridiculous as Consultant agreed ELCS much less risky for me and baby but advised I keep my mouth shut about actual research I'd done and progress request as tokophobia - actually astonishing) but it can happen. I am brooking no such nonsense this time around.

Thank you Rae Thanks

RooibosTeaAgain · 13/08/2015 17:28

I have had an EMCS and a VBAC. Not going to worry about what have until much further on. My aim is to get to the third trimester and a healthy baby and that is all I can focus on right now.

MrsEvansAlmost · 13/08/2015 20:14

Raeside · 13/08/2015 20:49

Hi ladies

Bex I read that as ' Istill haven't told the dad' Shock Grin

hufflebottom · 15/08/2015 19:49

Hello all, how are we all doing?

MayFlowers16 · 15/08/2015 20:37

Hi smirking, welcome Smile

Evening huffle I'm fighting indigestion and fatigue tonight. I thought the second trimester was supposed to be nice and easy?! How about you?

bex nice scan pickie. Yes, I've started to feel movements, for the last few weeks (I'm 16 + 4 ) It's often earlier second time round.

Is anybody thinking of having a doula this time around?

hufflebottom · 15/08/2015 21:07

I'm shattered, really struggling :(

I might do, would be better than having dp trying to be helpful....he means well but it's his first, my second so he's all excited etc and I can barely get excited about it. Still haven't told dd yet.

MayFlowers16 · 15/08/2015 21:17

Sorry you're still feeling tired huffle. I'm finding it to be much more of a struggle this time. Being three years older and having a toddler to chase after is taking it's toll on me.
How old is your dd ? We've told dd (2.9) but I think the whole thing is a bit abstract for her atm. Also, she never plays with her baby doll - she's more of a lego and train track fan.

We're seriously considering a doula this time. I didn't have a good experience last time and I'm hoping a doula will be both an advocate for me and also a calming influence.

LastOneDancing · 15/08/2015 21:48

My aunt is/was a senior midwife and she was with us for DS birth - it was so reassuring to have her there, knowing an expert was looking on and giving 1 to 1 care. I'd have been a lot more anxious without her and I know DH was incredibly grateful too.

I'm hoping she'll be a birth partner this time as she's retired now.
