Are you in Dublin too mayo ? Sorry, I can't seem to find you on the stats.

Pagerty · 12/07/2015 22:50

Evening all sorry for being AWOL, busy weekend.

Stocking your experience sounds horrific, I am sorry that you had to go through that. I was only 18 when I had a forceps delivery with DS1. Military hospital, Comander what's his name upstairs came down for 5 minutes, told me to basically man up as I wasn't having a epidural on his watch and dosed me up on so much pethadine I was completely off my head. DS1 became very distressed and 2 doctors used their full body weight (leg up on bed to steady one of them) to drag him out of me. The poor little thing was cut. Battered and bruised and his head was twice the size it should have been it was so swollen. He spent the first night of his life holding his head and crying as he must have had such a headache. He later went on to be diagnosed with severe learning difficulties and another diagnosis and while they obviously can not say for certain, it was noted at diagnosis that his traumatic birth could have contributed to this.

With DS2, I had no forceps on my birthplan. I did initially want an ECS but after having counselling I decided to go for hypnobirthing and have a water birth. Unfortunately he also became distressed but the outcome was so much more positive as they immediately rushed me to theatre and gave me a section. Down side that as it was a crash section it was under GA so we both missed his birth but we didn't care, he was born healthy and perfect in every way. This time if I am lucky enough to get to term I will go straight for the ECS. I have to as DH says he isn't coming with me if I don't Grin

Pixie, please try and stay positive. Just readying through previous posts prove that not all bleeds mean the end of the pregnancy. I will be thinking of you.

Hugs to all those having a shit time at home. And Purdie, I fully admire the way you are rationalising and dealing with your situation. Glad you can all come and vent in here when you need to.

As me, no news is good news yes? I am 10+4 today. Still no symptoms other than bloated belly but as I have discovered an even more sweet tooth than usual (and I haven't been doing my usual 5:2 fasting since I got my BFP) that would most probably be happening anyway Blush

I did have all my bloods done on Friday, they took loads! And I had to do what ever wee test you do when you do it in a red capped sample bottle (with powder in the bottom). I also received a consultants appointment for next month. Is anyone else going to struggle when the bulk of the hospital appointments fall during school holidays? DS2 is 4 and we have very little options for childcare.

I will hoping the FB group once I have had a scan and no something is there!

Ah pixie, so sorry you're going through this, being in limbo is the horrible, thinking of you and hoping for good news for you xx

Hugs to those of you having man problems, pregnancy does seem to send them a bit crazy too, glad you have support around you.

Stocking, my god, how horrific. Amazing that your other births were good and you are able to go to the good hospital again this time.

I had forceps with my first, I had been pushing for three hours, no pain relief (my choice) and I'd been in labour for 36 hours and they hadn't let me eat anything so I was exhausted. Forceps was my choice because I'd totally had enough by then, dd's heart rate and everything had been fine throughout though so I've always wondered what would have happened if I'd left it a bit longer, I defitenely was not made aware of how brutal forceps are and I think my decision would have been different if I'd known. Thankfully we were fine except for some dd having bruising. Although a blood test showed she had a marker for infection and we had to stay in for 5 days of antibiotics in her little arm Sad Ive always thought that maybe it was the trauma/bruising showing up as inflammation in the blood test rather than infection as she was always totally fine but I didn't mind staying in, having nothing to do for days other than lay down and feed her got breast feeding well established.

ATrueNerd · 13/07/2015 00:28

I'd love a home birth but I had gestational diabetes with both previous pregnancies and I'm assuming I'll have it again.. Does anyone know anyone who had it with a first and/or second pregnancy but not with a subsequent one? Or is it always a given? I don't know if there's anything I can do to reduce my risk... I've never been overweight, I eat really healthily and didn't put on too much weight either pregnancy.. Not sure what else I can do except limiting carbs/smaller portions.. When I had to take my blood all the time it was NEVER over the limit, ever, whatever I ate, obviously only being forced to drink a bottle of syrup sends it high! Both dd's were big but not enormous by today's standards, dd2's birth was fine despite her being back to back and nearly 9lb so it all seems like a massive stress over nothing Hmm x

MemphisBella · 13/07/2015 00:39

I've been AWOL on holiday, and had to search for this new thread, I've missed loads! Merrily puking my way to my 12 week scan on the 29th here.

Sympathy to those having hard times.

My MW asked me if I want to VBAC or ELCS this time - I'm so tempted to take the ELCS as it was such a positive experience last time, and I'm petrified of some of the experiences I've read about on here/ heard from my NCT class last time regarding induction and forceps. Secretly, I think I'd love another breech baby so I don't have to make a decision, as it were!

MW also said there's a chance they'll encourage me to ELCS since it will only be 17 months since the last one. Anyone else thinking about this already?

Happytimes2 · 13/07/2015 07:08

Nomont that sounds really good! And other short stay mums I'm well jel! I'd love it to b that quick this time.

elephantfeet · 13/07/2015 07:49

I got texts from a couple of dp's aunties yesterday saying congratulations, your MIL has told us the lovely news Angry

jellypi3 · 13/07/2015 07:52

Who's got their 12w scans this week?

OP posts:
elephantfeet · 13/07/2015 07:53

Oops sent too soon! We told MIL about the scan on thurs and that the midwife said things are looking pretty good now, but not that it's ok to go and tell everyone!! We are seeing all the family soon and it would have been nice to tell them ourselves.

rallytog1 · 13/07/2015 07:58

I'll be having an elcs after an emcs last time Bella. Definitely not too soon to think about it! I don't have a lot of choice in the matter but I know people who've chosen all elcs and they don't regret it at all. I did 24 hours of labour with my back to back with my dd, and trust me, you won't be missing anything if you choose not to try a vb.

I also think people need to be offered a cs much earlier when a vb isn't going to plan - my emcs injuries were partly as a result of the fact I'd laboured pointlessly for so long and swollen up like a balloon, when they probably would have been avoided if I'd been given the cs when a lovely junior doctor suggested it (only to be pooh pooh'd by the consultant).

Phoenix80 · 13/07/2015 08:03

Truenerd - I didn't have gestational diabetes in my 1st pg but did in my second so we'll see this time.

Memphis - I had an emcs with ds1 and an elcs with ds2 so my midwife told me I will be having an elcs this time so I'm quite glad the decision has been taken out of my hands Smile

Stocking - that sounds horrendous and very scary.

Pixie - fingers tightly crossed for you today xx

IslaMann · 13/07/2015 08:03

Nectarine have replied to your PM

twinsandapenguin · 13/07/2015 08:21

Very sorry to hear all the bad birth experiences. You are all very brave ladies to do this again.

I am really hoping to get my water birth this time. I am moving out of London but seriously considering driving back for the birth as the care at C&W was so excellent, of course I would be risking giving birth on the M1 and would have no aftercare... Maybe I need to give this some more thought!

Still no booking in or scan appointment! I am 10+3!

primarynoodle · 13/07/2015 08:58

elephant id be fuming Angry

ATrueNerd · 13/07/2015 09:25

Elephant, what is it with MIL's! Mine did it at 5 weeks with dc1, fuming! Needless to say we didn't tell her til we absolutely had to with other pregnancies and won't be this time til 12 weeks, don't see her that often so hopefully it won't be a problem.

StockingFullOfCoal · 13/07/2015 09:45

For anyone going to City hospital, they have 7 post natal beds in the Patient Hotel, private rooms with actual beds, mine also had a sofa and a TV. Bliss. Stayed there for 2 nights with DD1. Had to stay on ward for DD2 (BP wouldn't come down) but I requested and got my private room for the 3 nights I was in. Also bliss.

I'm not gonna lie, my MH issues play a big part in me being given private rooms on ward. I don't play nice with others Blush

DH and I talked into the small hours last night after not seeing each other for a fortnight. I decided to forgive him and draw a line, with conditions including marriage guidance with my Church Pastor, (who has agreed despite DH not being a Christian), individual counselling for him and he has to take the CONI referral. Tonight we are figuring out finances as he's going to need a good 6 weeks off work after the baby arrives.

Mawsymoo · 13/07/2015 09:52

NoMontagues I think you might live close enough to me if I'm thinking of the right hospital! In a place beginning with L? I was actually born in that hospital back in the day! I'm going to holles st. too but under consultant care as i have a number of risk factors.

I'm heading off for my 12 week appointment shortly - I'm very nervous. I've spent the morning cleaning to use up some energy!

BananaRaces · 13/07/2015 09:58

Aha, here you all are!

Pixie fingers very tightly crossed for you. Will be thinking of you

Elephant Shock that's such a thoughtless thing for your MIL to do!

We are supposed to be going to my cousin's wedding on the other side of the country this Saturday but I've been feeling so awful that I think I'm going to have to call my aunty at lunch time and cancel. I feel so bad for only giving a few days notice but it can't be helped. Blush My aunty isn't always the most level-headed of ladies and I really hope she doesn't react in an odd way. I'm really nervous about calling her... I'm a grown woman FFS!

NoMontagues · 13/07/2015 10:27

Oh good luck today mawsy !

I think I know where you mean but I'm actually in D.L Smile

Mawsymoo · 13/07/2015 10:32

Ah I'm a few miles south so! Thanks for the good luck, my tummy is doing flip-flops here.

BananaRaces · 13/07/2015 10:39

Yes, good luck Mawsy! Smile

Purdiepipesdown · 13/07/2015 11:46

Well done, Stocking, for setting your stall out.

I have my 12 wk scan on Mon at 12+2! Smile

jellypi3 · 13/07/2015 11:54
