kep1979 · 20/07/2015 13:18

oyster lovely picture! And I think boy too Smile

kep1979 · 20/07/2015 13:21

I'm finishing on Christmas eve too teenie and missmartin - I cannot wait. Currently at work tweaking my maternity leave spreadsheet to work out how much it will cost for me to stay off longer (current plan to go back in September). No idea how long I'll want to be off as with ds1 I had 9 months, and felt that was too long, and with ds2 I had 3.5 months which was far too short. But then I'm in a different position career-wise than I was - back then I was just really starting out whereas now I am in an established senior position, and plan to change jobs when I go back anyway, so much less concerned about being off.

lilyb84 · 20/07/2015 13:25

I've told work I'm planning on starting my mat leave the Monday before I'm due (so 11th Jan), so really hoping a) that I can work up until that point and b) that the baby isn't too late so I don't end up wasting any precious leave! Really hoping to take 9 months...

jmac88 · 20/07/2015 13:53

Ooh b&w I'm 15 weeks today too, and had terrible vomiting this morning!

Might be down to the baby not enjoying the half a pound of spicy chicken wings I ate last night though....

BeeMyBaby · 20/07/2015 13:54

Teenie I have no idea why she thought that but I put her right on the matter. Like lily says the more time with baby the better. I had 4 months off for dd1 and that was horrid going back so soon, and 9 months off with dd2 but I really want 10 months off followed by 2 months of p/t (using my holidays) with this one as I know I won't get another break like this to spend with my children for a long long time.

MissMartin10 · 20/07/2015 13:58

oyster hehe i bet he does! my dp really wants a boy first so he can teach him football and rugby and boy stuff lol... kep it's just the perfect time to leave.. then you can enjoy the break with your boys Smile

..I'm either taking 11months or 12 off.. we're already saving so we have the money for the difference in wage..and ive always got the bank of mum and dad as a back up Wink
can't believe i have nearly bought everything except my crib and moses basket. . ive even bought a floating fish to check the baby bath temp lol

lutrinae · 20/07/2015 14:06

I worked right up until the week before DS was due, slogging away on the London commute, thinking first babies are always late, right? So I'll have time to relax. He was born 2 days before his EDD! But I got the full 9 months with him which was great, couldn't afford to take any more. Then like Bee I used my accumulated leave to work 4 days p/w for 6 months.

This time I'm part time self employed so won't get maternity leave as such, except the statutory 3 months. But I only work 2 days a week so we'll manage somehow.

lutrinae · 20/07/2015 14:11

I've been looking up the nub/skull theory thing (we didn't find out lats time but this time I really want to know) and compared it to my scan. Haven't a flipping clue!

lilyb84 · 20/07/2015 14:21

Me neither, lutrinae! When we saw baby on the screen both of us were convinced it was a boy for some reason. Then we had a BBQ with our neighbours last weekend, and one of them - an older lady who lives upstairs - not only knew I was pregnant before I mentioned it (and had known for 'some time' despite me literally never seeing or speaking to her), but took one look at the scan pic and said 'oh, so you're having a girl, then'. Freaked us both out!

I may have told this story before, in which case apologies - baby brain! Confused

lilyb84 · 20/07/2015 14:23

And congratulations oyster, lovely pic! Glad to hear it's all looking good - and I agree with the boy vibes...

Looking, glad to hear about another good scan for you too! Smile

lutrinae · 20/07/2015 14:25

Ha, the number of strangers that 'knew' what I was having based on the bump size was hilarious. People are so weird about pregnancy. I had one of those psychic detection moments too last time when a woman offered me a seat on the tube, even though I totally didn't look pregnant.

lilyb84 · 20/07/2015 14:38

I've already threatened one particular friend with violence if she persists in telling me how 'wide' I am and that therefore I'm expecting a girl (I've gained no perceptible weight so she's essentially telling me I'd already put on a few noticeable pounds before getting knocked up) Grin

mrschatty · 20/07/2015 15:01

martin were the same we have everything now these sales have been a godsend! I was planning on working til 36w so around 21st Dec but thinking I may being it forward a week. If I have no mire holidays I will have 14 days so I could take holidays 14th dec- 27th Dec then start mat leave. My holidays renew in July and going back in sept but only going back 3 days so it's not going to be too bad to be away grok baba started to get info on nursery's though. Having a v v long day at work today Sad

mrschatty · 20/07/2015 15:02

oyster lovely scan!!! I can't call it...leaning more to boy!

fourlegstwolegs · 20/07/2015 15:08

Oyster that's lovely! I think its a boy too. Are you going to find out? Mine is at 9.10 tomorrow morning. Very nervous. I also get the Harmony results towards the end of this week....pretty nervous about that too.

Does anyone have an old wives tales of remedies that can help with morning sickness? Its starting to really get me down now. I can't enjoy anything because I feel so awful all the time.

Oysterbabe · 20/07/2015 15:13

We're not going to find out.
Good luck for your scan! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

fishermanswife1 · 20/07/2015 15:40

oyster I get boy vibes too, though I don't know why! Think due to skull shape but I'm hopeless!

One word for today after being on feet and doing some lifting this weekend... Sciatica! Ergh! Struggling to get upstairs for my regular retch-fests. Bath and hot water bottle tonight me thinks.

Hope there are good baby sales on when DH and I decide to start getting ourselves together! A few of you seem to have done really well!

tinyme135 · 20/07/2015 16:51

I don't know when to leave. There's a history on the OH side of all babies coming early and on my side coming late so I'm in a pickle. My due date is 10th Jan so I dunno if to work till Christmas or leave later or earlier, what do you guys think?

Oh and I just brought my first two pairs of maternity trouser from next and George. No more trousers digging in me haha. Now I need to go get a fitting for some new bras as the ones I got now can't cover me no more and is digging in my back

AlohaMama · 20/07/2015 17:15

fourlegs there are about a hundred suggestions of things for morning suggestions, and you just have to work out what works for you. Things that have helped me - eating regularly, making sure i have a snack (toast/cereal) just before bed so my stomach isn't empty in morning, keeping biscuits or similar by bed to eat as soon as waking, eating fruit (i seem to find it's sugar i need), don't have anything strong like fruit juice first thing, getting lots of rest, not rushing around or moving too fast, wearing sea bands, sipping iced water regularly, wearing loose clothes. Other people also seem to like - ginger-based products (biscuits, tea, sweets), particular essential oils (you'd have to google which ones). Thats' about all I have to offer you right now. Hope it eases soon.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 20/07/2015 17:25

Lily I told one of neighbours last week and she's said she "knew" I was pregnant. How? She has no idea. I wasn't showing at that point.

lilyb84 · 20/07/2015 17:45

blackandwhite that's exactly what I thought. Literally no idea how she 'knew' but guessing it's partly down to whatever that phenomenon is called where you think you predicted something but only because you've had positive confirmation of it after the fact... Smile

Juniper404 · 20/07/2015 17:49

Based on the 12 week scan photo, I'd guess I'm having a girl.

The top picture is of DD (definitely a girl!) and the bottom picture looks pretty much identical to me!

What do you reckon?

kep1979 · 20/07/2015 17:53

fourlegs i found seabands helped, but didn't cure i'm afraid. And i munched on salty crackers it is just me or does that sound rude?

My bump has properly popped - i am 14+3 today.
