Did anyone take their oh to the booking appointment. Mine wants to come but not sure if it's the done thing.

NoMontagues · 25/06/2015 19:01

blue the NIFTY test goes to China for processing, while Harmony and Panorama go to the U.S.

As far as I can gather, this makes the turnaround time on the NIFTY a little bit longer. However the NIFTY tends to be cheaper. The technology is the same.

This is to the best of my knowledge.

Bluenewbie · 25/06/2015 19:13

Montagues I've read somewhere that NIFTY is also even more accurate, but didn't check the source so can't tell for sure. hmm if it goes to China.. maybe it's better to do harmony at the end. if I only could afford. FX for low risk for all of us!

firsttimenewbie tell your OH that he will be wasting his time. it's just bureaucracy Angry

rallytog1 · 25/06/2015 19:13

I wouldn't bother newbie. Booking appointments involve a lot of filling in forms and not a lot else.

Brummiegirl15 · 25/06/2015 19:34

Newbie midwives actively discourage partners from appointments. This is due to domestic violence.

Domestic violence can often start or escalate in pregnancy and you do get asked if everything is ok at home. The midwives want the women to be able to speak freely and not in fear

Not suggesting anyone is a victim of that , but it's scarily more common than you realise

Mirabal · 25/06/2015 19:45

really purdie - I googled that to see if there was some reference to pickled eggs and satanists from 'popular' culture - but I'm guessing you just hate them?!

overreaction don't worry about moaning, that's what we're here for (amongst other things) and it does sound pretty grim. As they say over on the hyperemesis thread this too shall pass

blue remember the bureaucracy well from first time round - i was really suffering that day and I swear the midwife asked me my address 15 different times, all to add to a different form

AbFab86 · 25/06/2015 19:46

Charlotte the odd spike won't have any impact on the baby. You know that. You need to calm down. If I stressed every time I had a BM over 10 I'd be rocking back and forth in the corner mumbling to myself.

mumof2aimingfor3 · 25/06/2015 19:48

WouldRatherHaveCake I've told him. He took it well. Just taken another test, digital this time and the result is still the same. I'm not sure how I feel about it all to be honest.

Newbie I've taken DH to all of booking in appts, agree that they do discourage somewhat due to DV but I think it's nice that DH/DP's want to be involved. Really boring though! Plus they ask if you've had previous terminations etc so if they don't know, not best to take them along!

Brummiegirl15 · 25/06/2015 19:50

Absolutely I don't think a midwife would ever stop a partner coming in, but they do like to have 1:1 time

Tiredoftiredness · 25/06/2015 19:50

Evening all

Lovely to see some promising scans amidst the sad news of losses.

Not much To report here, 7+3 today and the old symptoms I did have seem to have decreased even more, but I'm absolutely shattered all the time!

Have booked a private scan for Saturday so really hoping to see a HB, and will have to go maternity shopping very soon after assuming all is well - my work trousers were really cutting in today!

New thread so we don't lose people this time!

birdbrain21 · 25/06/2015 21:18

newbie the form filling at the booking in appointment is to find out a full medical history so they can be prepared if there might be anything that would crop up with you or the baby. They need to know a lot about your oh medical history as well. Someone said the midwives discourage the men because of domestic violence, but they just want to talk to you for a few mins by yourself, last time she sent my dh to the reception desk to book the next appointment and asked me if everything was okay, the letter I have this time says 'anyone accompanying you will be asked to wait outside for the first 10 mins of appointment'. From my experience last the midwives love it when your oh comes so they can feel involved and see you have support. I remember a couple of appointments dh couldn't come to and I felt like the odd one out by myself in the waiting room!

Ginger is NOT a remedy for nausea in pregnancy.

That is all.
