Ohjelly well this is my first pregnancy so I can only tell you what the procedure is at my GPs surgery - I was given a pile of forms to fill in and I have to go to a "booking appointment" with the midwife at 8 weeks, during that appointment they are going to take a load of blood tests and go through the forms to talk about history. I think they'll book my 12 week scan then too... Or maybe I've got that bit wrong!

TeddyRuxpinsSmile · 24/06/2015 09:56

Well, the home tests started coming back positive 11 dpo (as I worked it out) so I thought all was good. Is it possible first response and clearblue could come back positive last week and then negative now? Nurse just said she can now see a v faint line on the test they did but it should be quite noticeable by now shouldn't it? Thanks for your thoughts everyone. Still waiting for blood tests x

haquoi123 · 24/06/2015 10:02

teddy, fingers crossed for the bloods. Chemical pregnancy (which hopefully it isn't) is an actual pregnancy with very very early miscarriage. So there's enough hormone for positive tests, which aren't false positives, they're real, but then everything breaks down and the hormone stops being produced. It's absolutely gutting though. Fingers crossed for your blood tests x

IslaMann · 24/06/2015 10:43

So's prey Teddy. Thinking of you Thanks

IslaMann · 24/06/2015 10:44

That was meant to say So sorry Teddy Thanks

WouldRatherHaveCake · 24/06/2015 11:05

I'm so sorry teddy, how awful for you. haquoiexplains it well. A chemical pregnancy is a miscarriage so early that the only "proof" is a positive HPT, I had one in December so I understand the confusion and shock over it. I hope you're okay, I'm sorry you are going through this

Brummiegirl15 · 24/06/2015 11:41

I'm so sorry Teddy my first mc was a very early mc and I remember the shock of it all too clearly

Rufus200 · 24/06/2015 11:59

Sorry Teddy

Bluenewbie · 24/06/2015 12:29

How many weeks did everyone get in touch with the midwife by?

Rufus200 · 24/06/2015 12:52

Has anyone started getting acid reflux? I barely slept last night because of the nausea and woke from my little bit of sleep to find my oesophagus felt like it was burning and no amount of drinking water would stop it. I'm off to the pharmacy to get some antacids.

Does anyone have any tips for nausea? They would be really appreciated, it is getting unbearably worse at the moment! If I take my bands off it is horrendous but they aren't really reducing it much anymore.

Helps with my nausea
Sipping cold water
Cold shower (actually was pleasant this morning thats how bad I feel)
Nausea bands
Polo mints

Makes my nausea worse
Hot showers
Tea
Bending down
Being hot

teddy I'm so sorry.

Hi wouldratherhavecake, I'm in Scotland and the process is a bit different here I think. When you call up the midwife they give you the booking in appointment and scan appointment at the same time. Mine are a fortnight apart. I book in on 13 July at which point I'll be somewhere between 9 - 14 weeks pregnant (embarrassed to say I wasn't tracking my periods so not sure if I conceived in April or May, hoping it was May...).

peggysue82 · 24/06/2015 12:57

I get really bad heartburn rufus. It sucks, it has already started with this one and I had it really bad thru both DS1 and Ds2. Get the GP to prescribe you some gaviscon otherwise u will end up spending a fortune inviting it over the counter. Also don't drink water when it's bad (makes it worse) if u can stomach it milk is the best thing to drink. My pregnancy yoga teacher also told me that lying on your left hand side in bed will help digestion too.

peggysue82 · 24/06/2015 12:58

*buying it not inviting it...silly autocorrect

peggysue82 · 24/06/2015 12:59

Also try some ginger tea for the sickness...

clarabellski · 24/06/2015 13:00

hi rufus, the best remedy I've found for the (unrelenting!) nausea is sleep. Unfortunately this is not much use during the day at work, but I've got into a routine in the past week of going for an hour's nap when I get home (that's on top of the 9 or so hours I'm getting overnight).

In the workplace, fresh air seems to help. I've been making a point of going outside a lunchtime for a wee walk around. I can't face the gym this week as the nausea has been increasing. However, I need to be careful to avoid the smokers who pop out for a cheeky fag.

I hope we all feel better as our pregnancies progress Flowers

Brummiegirl15 · 24/06/2015 13:10

For me the best thing has been icy cold fizzy water.

My midwife appt and 12 wk scan are on the same day. I had that for my last pregnancy and didn't need in the end so I assume it's standard in Worcestershire

Zookeeper73 · 24/06/2015 13:32

5 weeks yesterday and hello nausea :( just when I am about to head off to bed, which I guess is actually the best time of day for it.

Feeling a lot of sympathy for everyone suffering this!

Stepawayfromthezebras · 24/06/2015 13:35

I got my scan appointment letter through today :) it's the 30th July - feels so long away!!

My booking in appointment's the 13th July but I've already seen the midwife once for a quick 5 minute chat, she gave me my notes, took my blood and sent off a request for a scan. I didn't need to see my GP first though, just self-referred to her.

bopoityboo3 · 24/06/2015 13:38

wouldratherhavecake I've got a gp appointment this afternoon as they won't pass me on to the midwives until i see my gp. I'm about 7 and a half weeks so hoping my booking in appointment will be soon so we can get my scan sorted asap.

rufusbest thing for my nausea is sleep, sipping cold cold water and nibbling on tiny bits of chocolate Grin

WouldRatherHaveCake · 24/06/2015 13:52

Mumkind sweets from sainsbury are good if you can stand the taste - I hate chamomile and I hate ginger. But only 50p in the pharmacy there but £3 odd on amazon

SmashleyHop · 24/06/2015 13:53

Flowers Teddy- thinking of you.

Have my first midwife appt in an hour. Hoping they will do a little scan, but if not I'm sure I'll have one in the next week or two. They said the appt will last about an hour and a half.. can't imagine what will take that long if I'm not getting a scan. Anyways- very excited to finally speak to someone and get some meds for the nausea that seems to be getting worse by the day.

TeddyRuxpinsSmile · 24/06/2015 14:21

Hi all, I'm off- hopefully see you all around. Massive good luck to everyone x
