You should go to the scan or you'll never stop worrying. I'm sure all is well. Thanks

Oysterbabe · 22/06/2015 18:29

Re water births, does not appeal to me in the slightest. I'll stick with not soaking in my own blood, piss and shit thanks Grin

Marvelette · 22/06/2015 18:30

Thanks both. I don't feel nearly so worried as I did earlier but am still a bit anxious. What do they actually do at the EPU if they have concerns? Does anybody know?

SleepyDragon · 22/06/2015 18:31

Oyster that made me laugh!!!

I like the thought of anything that'll help (obviously) but I can't and a hair being in my 'bath water' let slone unky gunky bits lol!

Marvelette · 22/06/2015 18:35

Do they scan you?

TeenieDeenie · 22/06/2015 18:43

Marvelette, please go to the scan. Spotting/bleeding could be totally harmless in early pregnancy but please go and get checked out. You are definitely not wasting anyone's time.

TeenieDeenie · 22/06/2015 18:45

Marvelette, yes they will scan you and check baby size, heartbeat and also check your ovaries etc for cysts that could also cause bleeding. Have you had an early scan?

Lilliana · 22/06/2015 18:46

sleepy I had an episiotomy and forceps - the two things I really didn't want! - and it was fine. Honestly by the time you get that far you won't care!

marvelette I would go - they have offered it so obviously felt you weren't wasting their time and it will be reassuring for you in case you do get any more. All sounds ok though if no pain and it's stopped. I think you can get red due to irritated cervix and other things that don't cause the baby any problems. Best to be sure.

Marvelette · 22/06/2015 18:50

Thank you everybody! First pregnancy and haven't had a scan yet (first NHS one booked for 9th July). I don't mind having a scan but it will freak me out having anything invasive at this stage I think, so good to know that's probably not on the cards.

P.S. I am SO pleased I don't know (yet!) what you lot are talking about when you mention 'episiotomies'!

Juniper44 · 22/06/2015 18:50

The scan will probably be internal. Just so you are forewarned. I didn't know that when I went with DD and got a bit of a shock!

I had a 2nd degree tear but didn't feel it. The other pain is too great! Wait, that's probably not helping...

Marvelette · 22/06/2015 18:51

Ooh Juniper was that for me? We cross posted! What's an internal scan? They actually put a camera up inside you??

Marvelette · 22/06/2015 18:56

Ok just looked it up. Hopefully it's not too horrible. And maybe they might give me the external scan as I am eleven weeks on Thurs?!

hotcrossbun83 · 22/06/2015 18:59

Marvelette I had some bright red blood in my last pregnancy, although a bit later, and it was nothing. But I would still get it checked, if nothing else it's a bonus scan and work have to give you the time off for it

I tried for a water birth last time but I started to bleed in the water so they transferred me to the labour ward, (all was fine in the end). It was nice but not the amazing pain killer I hoped tbh. I think you can tear more easily if you deliver in water because the mw can't see as clearly to help you

Lookingforadvice123 · 22/06/2015 19:06

marvelette definitely still go. I don't think you will need an internal at 10/11 weeks I had a scan at EPAU at 9 weeks and I didn't need an internal, just take a bottle of water with you so your bladder is full.

I love the idea of a water birth but I watched one on an episode of OBEM (years ago) and it was a really straightforward birth, but as soon as the baby was born the whole pool turned bright red, I nearly fainted watching it haha. Also the floating poo thing someone else mentioned, how embarrassing Blush

Those of you who've had babies, who poo'ed themselves during?

Sweetpea80 · 22/06/2015 19:07

Evening everyone hope you are all well.

I have always loved the idea of a water birth and although my hospital offers it I've never managed to have on for one reason or another. I'm hoping this time (last chance) I'll be allowed one. Due to a previous DVT I'm on daily blood thinning injections which I hate and I'm not sure if this will stop me having one. Loveyoulotslikejellytots do u need injections too? If u do could I ask u a few questions?

Marv def go even if the spotting/bleeding has stopped. It will give u much needed reassurance. It can be very common but to be on the safe side get it checked.

I've spent all afternoon sleeping I've not felt so exhausted during this pregnancy as I do today. 1st day of my annual leave and I've slept it away. Bleeding started again during last night so hoping the rest will have helped. Too scared to go and check.

Teenie how many of us ladies are from Scotland? I've lost the link to the stats x

Sweetpea80 · 22/06/2015 19:10

I've have 4DC, three of which were natural birth and I've never pooed myself. It felt like I was but it was just the pressure of the head. I wouldn't worry about it though. It's common and although embarrassing me are very used to it x

loveulotslikejellytots · 22/06/2015 19:14

Sweetpea80 - no, not on (is it heparin?) injections, just aspirin. But I'm only a carrier of factor V, I'm not usually affected by it. I think it's more as a precaution. What questions do you have, someone might know. Obviously only if you want to out them on here.

loveulotslikejellytots · 22/06/2015 19:14

Put not out!

crumble74 · 22/06/2015 19:20

sweetpea I'm the one doing daily heparin injections, ask away!

likduck Sorry to hear about your prophet of doom doctor. He shouldn't really make presumptions about what the outcome of your scan will be. I hope everything is ok.

marvelette Do got and get checked out, I hope it goes well.

crumble74 · 22/06/2015 19:28

Just to update: I had a really great scan. Smile Bean was wriggly & had a strong heartbeat but it appears that I am 13 weeks instead of 12+3 so my due date is now officially 28 December! Eeek. The nuchal fold seems to be ok too. Just gotta wait for the bloods to be tested!

BeeMyBaby · 22/06/2015 19:31

looking as I said I definitely pooped myself with dd2, but not sure with dd1 as I really couldn't tell but the mw said I didn't (but frankly there is no way she would have told me if I had). It makes me almost wish they still gave enemas in early labour as they did for my mothers generation. I'm hoping for a poop free birth this time Fx

meggy22 · 22/06/2015 19:35

I had a water birth with my ds. I hadn't planned it and always hated the idea. But it was great, not sure I could have done it otherwise. Btw most if not all women do a number two anyway as the baby squishes your rectum on the way down ( I've seen plenty of births!).

babybabynamechange · 22/06/2015 19:35

Just to add marvelette I've had two early scans - one at 7 weeks which was internal - it was fine even though I dread that kind of thing and one at 8 weeks which was external, they could see everything by 8 weeks in some detail. By 10 weeks there is no way you should need an internal scan all being well. I also had a very small amount of bright red blood, sounds similar to you actually though mine was earlier at 7 weeks and with the second scan things were clear enough for them to be able to see that it was normal, harmless implantation bleeding which put my mind at ease - I had a lot of implantation blood showing but that's probably because I have twins - they majority of the blood is just reabsorbed by your body but some comes out - hth xx

Sweetpea80 · 22/06/2015 19:36

Crumble that's great u had a good scan. It's lovely to see them wriggling about. Makes the nausea etc all worth while.

I've never had to use the injections in any previous pregnancy as my DVT was after I had the children. They have said I will have to inject up until 36wks, stop then start again for 6wks. I'm useless with needles so my OH does it for me (Wimp) at the mo it's in my stomach but I'm assuming I'll need to move to my thigh when the bump gets too big to pinch the skin. Does this hurt more? I've been bleeding on and off and have asked numerous MW if the injections cld cause it but none of them have confirmed it or denied it. Will being on then restrict what I'm allowed during labour?

Sorry for all the questions crumble x

Juniper44 · 22/06/2015 19:41

The two EPUs I've been to only do internal scans, but I guess it depends on the hospital.

I told the mw I felt like I needed to poo. She told me to go to the toilet but as I put my hand down, I felt DD's head coming out! Glad I ignored her or I would have given birth in the toilet!

It was at that point that she asked if I could hold off an hour as they hadnt put the antibiotic drip in yet Hmm
