For all those lovely bumps incubating until last few days of Oct and all November, spilling possibly over to December for the super comfortable babies- come and chat, rant, vent, chant, glow, sweat, watch nails grow whilst doing antenatal pilates/yoga/sleeping/eating/navel gazing and over analyse to your hormones content!

Optional - FB group is up and bumping, PM me with email to be added.

I'll probably end up not using it hopefully!
That reminds me, does anyone know if breastfeeding courses are any good? I never made it to the one I was booked on last time. I'm wondering if a course can actually tell you something that's a practical skill, if that makes sense?
Last time didn't work out and DS was on formula after a couple of weeks. I'd like to try again but am rather nervous about it. This will sound selfish but I want to go home and not been kept in for feeding reasons again.
Sorry, not to put anyone off, as many women find it easy

SnozzberryPie · 15/06/2015 16:38

Abbey I sympathise re the breastfeeding, most people in scbu ended up bottle feeding as it was obvious that you'd get to go home sooner if you did. I think it would be worth reading up on bf before the birth ( I really recommend'the food of love' by kate Evans), but you also need someone to show you how once the baby is there. We had a great local bf support group when I had dd, the women there were volunteers and had much more time to spend one to one than any of the hospital midwives.

Hospital bags: the only thing I can add is lots and lots of food. I was starving during labour last time and it was the middle of the night so nowhere to get food!

Unthoughtknown · 15/06/2015 18:06

Can anyone recommend some black maternity work trousers that aren't polyester, bootcut monstrosities? Disappointing selection in the shops.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 15/06/2015 18:17

Thanks Snozzberry I'll ask the midwife and the children's centre what's around locally, good idea.

LadyStark · 15/06/2015 18:21

Here you all are! I too am after some nice work trousers, an impossible mission it would seem.

I was away for the weekend at my best friend's hen do which was really tough, I lasted until just after 1am both times but they all partied until 5am. I barely slept night one due to the noise but picked up some ear plugs on the Sat and we spent a lovely chilled out day at the beach.

My second 20 week scan is tomorrow afternoon, hoping baby is cooperative this time as last time she wouldn't get in the right position. After drying my tears and reflecting on my consultants appointment I do feel more positive, still planning to ELCS though which I think he will agree too.

My placenta has moved up (yay) but is anterior - I have had movement for a few weeks now but all very low which now makes sense. I've also been booked in to have the consultant have a look at my cervix just to rule out that as a cause of bleeding, he did say that for some people it is unexplained but he would rather be cautious so I have that to look forward to as well!

CoffeeTwo · 15/06/2015 18:45

17 weeks today and just been sick :( sickness has been much worse this time.

Gr33dyeggs · 15/06/2015 19:07

All was ok with the scan Smile We stayed team yellow and I'm surprised to find I have an anterior placenta given how much I have felt - it must be the wriggly nature of scooby!

Hi all! Just returned from our hols yesterday and have been catching up on all the lovely scan news! Panicked a bit with the new thread happening, thought I'd lost you all!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 15/06/2015 19:41

Lovely to see all the scan news. Congratulations friends Smile Smile

Unthoughtknown · 15/06/2015 19:51

Lovely to see the scan pics, there must be a few coming up over the next week or so? Mine is a week Thursday.

Laura7010 · 15/06/2015 20:35

What's the time scale for the next one? Mines not for another 4 weeks which will make me 21 weeks. I want it to hurry up!!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 15/06/2015 21:12

Mine is a week on Thursday too. An hour long appointment so better make sure I'm comfortable.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 15/06/2015 21:15

Yey for good scan Gr33dyeggs and for placentas behaving / moving LadyStark

ChicBabyP · 15/06/2015 21:18

Lovely news on scans and lovely new thread!

I second going to children centers and seeing breastfeeding councelors. They were my life savers last time, the midwifes in hospital were totally useless... I was in such pain and didn't know why until a breastfeeding councelor sat with me and taught me how to latch baby on properly. The one on one time was priceless ( and free actually!!) and also they were amaZing in helping me diagnose mastitis when i got it the first time. So definitely get yourselves to a center or ask one to come to you ( i know some do), it's really great help.

Good luck with all the scans this week!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 15/06/2015 21:28

Chic are you planning to bf your twins? I think I probably won't. Has such problems last time (flat nipples, no latch, exclusive pumping for 8 weeks, bf established finally with nipple shields, several blocked ducts and mastitis due to oversupply... bf for over a year but nearly lost my sanity) so am thinking that it could just be so hard with twins that I might be better just deciding not to do it now.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 15/06/2015 21:35

Thanks for the advice Chic my hospital was useless last time. The breastfeeding councillors only served one borough. My postcode could have been in one of 2 boroughs so she came to see me but had to leave when she found out where I lived. Stupid NHS policy that!

I've bought my first baby things, just a couple of gros. She'll mainly be in DS's old things (a great deal of it is neutral things especially trousers etc) but I thought I'd better get a few things of her own Smile

PinkaColada · 15/06/2015 21:54

Hi all tmi alert just having a minor freak out. I've had a really busy day at work and have been standing up and rushing around most of the day. Probably haven't had enough to drink either. I've had a niggly lower back ache like period pain all day and terrible wind too Blush. When I got home and to the loo I noticed a sort of beigey discharge with slight brown steaks in it. Not much at all but enough to freak me out. Then just now no discharge but the world's tiniest brown clot.
I am trying not to panic but it's hard. I am aware in could be a miscarriage or more likely an infection or just part of pregnancy. I don't know if I should go in to work tomorrow and have another busy day, but no teaching. Then try and get a Dr's appointment. Alternatively I take the day off or morning off and hope to get a midwife/Dr's appointment early. I can't remember whether the emergency appointments are morning or afternoon ones.
Anyone had anything like this?

austengirl · 15/06/2015 21:57

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better StAlphonso. How are you doing focus?

Had a lovely time at the spa with SiL yesterday and then she gave me a bunch of baby things our niece has outgrown, which I wasn't expecting--cot sheets, a sleeping bag type thing, a pram liner, her old hiking baby carrier and folding pram. Felt like I won the lottery! Might be getting a car seat tomorrow as well. Things are getting real. Hmm

Re: families, mine is all overseas and my MiL is 3 hours away. While I'm kind of glad that no one can just drop in, it will be harder in some ways. My mum is coming two weeks before the due date and staying for at least a month--but not with us. It will be good to have her here. She's declared that Christmas is at ours this year, so I have no idea how much of my family will be descending. Trying not to think about that yet.

Anyway, we're going to visit our third nursery this week (we'll be going on the waiting list shortly, everything is that oversubscribed around here) then our next scan is a week from today. Smile

Laura7010 · 15/06/2015 22:23

pinka I've not experienced anything like that myself but I think you should keep an eye on it tonight but try not to panic. If you are not teaching tomorrow then they won't miss you if you need to go to the doctors. I would ring first thing and see when you can get an appointment. Hopefully someone else here will be able to shed more light on it.

Gr33dyeggs · 15/06/2015 22:25

pinka I would try and see someone for reassurance or possible referral for scan or a swab for infection.

mrswishywashy · 16/06/2015 08:17

Pinka, I've had it a few times, over the past week have had it every second day. I've stopped aspirin to see if that makes a change but it hasn't. I also had it when I stopped progesterone from fertility treatment. When I talked to midwife at 16 week appt about it she said the only thing she would recommend is bed rest. I might give her a call and see if they will check for infection as didn't realise that could be a sign. When I mentioned it to consultant he didn't seem bothered just said it was normal. I tempted to see if I can get a private scan to check for cervix length. It's worrying but in a majority of cases all is fine. I would try and see midwife or GP early though.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 16/06/2015 08:45

Pinka I'd get it checked out anyway, but I think brown is usually a better sign than red. I had bleeding with my 1st, it was a UTI and then low lying placenta. I had a tiny bit in this pregnancy but no idea what that was. Hope all goes well

Focusfocus · 16/06/2015 09:19

Hello all of you!

Abbey it's my first time so I obviously don't know but the three women in my DH family all have had negative breastfeeding experiences and have in turn become strangely anti breastfeeding as a concept. I am (perhaps naively) determined to breastfeed so finding all the formula talk even before I've given birth a bit pressurising. I have bought the awfully named the womanly art of breastfeeding and with the exception of a few chapters it's useful.

The other thing I have done is spent ten quid getting about 10-12 leaflets and info cheat sheets on breastfeeding issues from La Leche League. They are in the post. if any of you want these breastfeeding info sheets, it's absolutely fine for me to scan them at my desk and PM them to you as attached pics so you can just print at home or work.

I'm also spending a lot of time searching breastfeeding problems on mumsnet and reading threads and keeping an eye out for potential issues. That, and saving on my phone lots of local and national breastfeeding helpline numbers, you'll find those on nhs website, so I don't need to fumble about when I am about to cry on the phone!

The scan pics are lovely!!

We are team blue and our scan was fine too. Here's a pic of the little man!

Focus lovely scan pic! Hope your SPD is easing? Yes please to the scans of the leaflets either through here or on fb if you are part of the group... whichever is easier for you :)

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 16/06/2015 09:44

Thanks Focus its hard, but try not to let people pressure you either way. I've had friends who've had comments about breastfeeding and I've had comments about bottle feeding, so I've figured you can't really win - just do what's best for you and baby and see how it goes.
I was talking to my mum, and she breastfed one of us but the other was formula. She can't remember which way round but my brother was a difficult birth so she thinks perhaps it was him on the formula.
I'm hoping with an easier birth and a term baby my milk will come in properly and baby will be able to feed easier. I'll see what happens anyway. DH has been very supportive and has just said to see how it goes.

I've got my VBAC course tomorrow. Hoping it'll be useful and not too rose-tinted. I'm going to come armed with a load of questions anyway!
