Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 30th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 48th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Here is the stats list, please update your own spot with any updates: Stats

Thanks for the new Fred tee!

purple I'm prone to those pesky things on my eyelids, unless it hurts or becomes unsightly don't be tempted to have it removed! That is horrible. When does third trimester start?

First trimester-ers I am sorry to say I have only just started feeling normal, but felt good all the way to 8 weeks so I think mine was delayed :)

Just had my 25w with the Dr and allgood, hurrah! She isn't too worried about my gtt on Wednesday which has helped me stop freakingfg out a little especially as she says she will still sign my fit to fly form

Pisghetti · 08/06/2015 17:34

Ooh I wonder if the title will get the pearl clutchers out again..... TinyTee is so going to drop on this Fred! As is TinyCym Smile

I've spent the day running errands for DP. Got us out of the house though so I didn't mind. Had to meet the electrician at his rental property who got his wires crossed (see what I did there?) and thought I was the landlady's partner. Must have assumed BabyPis was a turkey baster baby. Had a cheap laugh at the reptile shop when the assistant offered to show me some big wieners. Not so funny when I had to carry a bag of frozen dead rats out of the shop shudder

The Lullaby Trust have a fact sheet about mattresses, bedding and SIDS risk here. I got the cotbed from a friend who I know cosleeps so the mattress hadn't been used. I washed the cover and put a mattress protector on it. There is a correlation between using a second hand mattress and a small increase in SIDS risk but no causal relationship has been established.

The bounty emails have some cracking deals on them. I've had all sorts of bits for really good prices with them. Feel slightly guilty as they're considered to be pretty unethical though......

gaggiagirl · 08/06/2015 17:44

yaaaaaaay! to baywatch blowies!

**se rain has gone yay!!!! im at work hence no rudies!

gaggiagirl · 08/06/2015 17:45

my oral stylings, not mr oral stylings....whos he?

jellypi3 · 08/06/2015 17:49

Yay ga great news!!

Does your hubby have a snake pis? I love reptiles!

Folks, steaks in restaurants, how would you have them cooked? I'm normally a medium-medium:well type person so never bloody, should I play it safe and go well done?

Hobbit19 · 08/06/2015 17:59

"Does your husband have a snake" snigger Grin

Jelly, well done steaks are recommended due to the risk of toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis is one thing that I am worried about getting even though the risk is small. I'm much less worried about Salmonella for example (less likely to be harmful to Christmas pud) so I was quite happy to have dippy (lion) eggs for lunch. Mmmmm. Each to their own of course, I think each person needs to weigh up the risks themselves iyswim?

batfish · 08/06/2015 18:05

jelly they do recommend well done steak but I just can't bring myself to do it - I once ordered medium-well and it came very medium and I just couldn't bear to send it back for them to ruin it even though I have no toxoplasmosis immunity and another time I ordered medium-well and it was definitely well done and tasted like shoe leather Sad My hubby is actually really good at steak and makes a really yummy tender well done one so I think I will stick to his and order other things in restaurants - he has told me he will bring me a medium steak from my fave place to the hospital haha. So official advice is go for the shoe leather!

Niffertiti · 08/06/2015 18:08

Oooh, what's unethical about bounty? My bargain-hunter instinct has been eyeing up some of the deals although I'm trying to persuade myself to wait till after the 12week scan. 29 June! 21 days isn't actually so long and I have another reassurance scan booked next Thursday

Did anyone here get harmony/nifty tests done? I'll be 11+6 at 12 week scan, so I was thinking if combined nuchal test comes back iffy I could get one done after that. Does that make sense?

La you were in my neck of the woods yesterday! Thanks for the tip off re debenhams, didn't know they have a maternity section...

Purpleball · 08/06/2015 18:30

Jelly rare is fine. MW told me as long as it's sealed to have it as rare as I like.

Bounty are guilty of harassing new mums in hospitals for photos apparently.

I've started clearing my office and found a few airline packs including ear plugs and sleep masks - figure they will be good for hospital bag.
Daft question - what sort of bag for hospital bag?
Gym-type hold-all or wheeled suitcase? Do I need 3 bags (one each) or put everything in one bag. I'm nicking Tee's freezer bag idea. Also going to put extra nappies and bigger clothes in a bag in the car just in case.

Purpleball · 08/06/2015 18:33

Niff we had NIFTY test done. It was worth every penny. It cost £440 I think and the results took 10 days. It's sometimes a bit longer. We had a good long scan with it too which was much clearer than the NHS ones and she spent ages pointing everything out and confirming everything is normal.

Pisghetti · 08/06/2015 18:48

I don't know who Mr Oral Stylings is Ga but I'd like to meet him Grin

DP does indeed have a snake. I'm not keen on her tbh and I'm not sure she likes me either....

What purple said re bounty - I think MN has a campaign against them?

goodnessgraciousgouda · 08/06/2015 19:02

Niff - there are some appalling stories on mumsnet about women being actively harrassed by bounty reps. A lot of women have very similar stories, so it's not really a case of just a few bad apples.

I've seen stories ranging from bounty reps telling outright lies (along the lines of "if you don't buy our products you can't get your child benefit forms") to them being extremely overbearing, pushy and basically forcing themselves onto women who are in an extremely vulnerable state.

Frankly I think they should be banned from maternity wards.

jelly - personally I wouldn't mess about with steaks which aren't well done. The thing with toxo is that in the UK there are no checks for it, and considering the symptoms could easily get passed off as pregnancy symptoms, it would be really easy to miss. And that's pretty worrying. One of the reasons they are so obsessed with checking for it in France is down to the fact that meat is pretty much always way less cooked here, so there is more of a risk.

I'm not a total pearl clutcher about pregnancy stuff - I plan to have one glass of champagne at a family wedding later in the year, etc - but I don't think undercooked meat is to be fucked around with.

jellypi3 · 08/06/2015 19:13

Thanks folks I'll maybe steer clear of the steak :( it's such a nice restaurant too! I wish they tested for toxo because I've got indoor cats and am probably immune due to my exposure to it not that I'd tell DP if I were, I like him cleaning their shitters

Purpleball · 08/06/2015 19:57

Jelly I've eaten rare steak throughout based on what the midwife said. I think other people have too. She also told me about runny eggs being ok as long as lion stamped.
It's very much a personal decision but I felt confident that she wouldn't say it was safe without NHS evidence/recommendation/guidelines

PixieChops · 08/06/2015 20:09

I've had the odd couple of medium steaks and I'm ok. In fact I've eaten a shit load of stuff I shouldn't have done!
About dildo cams... I know I've ha a penis but the thought of smear tests, dildo cams or anyone's fingers going inside me makes me feel like vomiting. I was sexually abused as a child and even though I can have an active sex life I find internal examinations incredibly difficult to the point where I have to have gas and air. Ive only ever been for one smear and they had to leave it as I got so distressed. The local university then sent me some equipment to do it myself which I did and sent it off.
It's another reason why I'm having a c section this time. I barely coped with the internal examinations until I had an epidural and I was fine as I couldn't feel anything.

rm00054 · 08/06/2015 20:16

My midwife specifically told me that lion stamped eggs weren't recommended! (although I haven't been impressed with any of the midwives I've seen so far - they all don't seem to have a clue!)
I've been really relaxed with most of the "don'ts" recommended in pregnancy except for the raw meat and toxo ones. Don't know why I feel that one is the one to stick to.

rm00054 · 08/06/2015 20:18

I feel really nauseous. I've slept most of the afternoon but still feel bleugh. I'm hoping this might be the beginning of the end rather than just a bug, I'm 37+4 so I very much doubt it though.

Purpleball · 08/06/2015 20:24

Rm that's worried me now. I thought she would be the one with the accurate info and I've followed it, and told others about it too ffs Hmm
I just thought she had more up to date info than the NHS website

Oh well I'd had a few days without anxiety Smile

BeforeIChangeMyMind · 08/06/2015 20:31

Hi viroids, can't stay away :)

News from the postnatal ward... Still here until tomorrow and everyone has been absolutely lovely unlike at the hospital where I had DS. Tea on tap, biscuits obligatory, kindness and empathy all around. I am a happy customer. Even the Bounty rep was very respectful and went away when I told her I was feeding DS2.

DS met still-not-named DS2 this evening, it was very sweet. And my lovely childminder brought me flowers, which we discovered aren't allowed in hospital wards any more.

Here are my hospital bag tips for a short stay, do with them what you will:

  1. Newborn nappies in the knickers give much greater security than maternity pads if your waters break spectacularly and just keep gushing.
  2. A few different sizes of babygro are handy just in case you unexpectedly produce a v large or v small offspring
  3. Anything to help you feel clean and fresh is a good idea, take plenty of pads, nice soap etc.
  4. Snacks are worth it, it's a long time until breakfast.
  5. If you're Breastfeeding, take a nipple rescue kit - e.g balm and shields. Night feeds can be tricky in an unfamiliar bed when you're shattered.

Such is my "wisdom". :) Tee and Cym, you will def drop on this thread. Thinking of you.

La, not sure if this is your hospital of choice too, if so I can highly recommend...

Niffertiti · 08/06/2015 20:40

Evil bounty! Well, I will be popping this one out (that's just what it will be like, yeah?) in Bangkok, so maybe I'll just take their cheap products and run...

Why are they even allowed on wards?!

ZylaB · 08/06/2015 20:52

One thing they don't tell you (bounty that is) is that the photos are just to get your details, which they don't tell you they sell to other companies. That's how they make money. Just be aware :)

Lookingforadvice123 · 08/06/2015 21:02

jc I'm so happy for you, if anyone deserves to turn a corner and feel a bit better it's you!

purple I've heard that lion stamped eggs are ok too, so don't fret! Although don't blame you for doubting the midwife, when I asked mine whether it was fluid at the back of the neck which gets measured during the NT screening, make said no it's the actual neck Hmm surely she should know that?

I ordered a medium/well done steak style burger on the weekend (only a half one as it was at Burger&Lobsster!) and it was the littlest bit bloody inside. I'm hoping that it was ok!

jellypi3 · 08/06/2015 21:12

pixie that's horrible :(

Purpleball · 08/06/2015 21:13

Thanks Zyla Smile I've used a separate email address for bounty for that reason.
Looking it's hard to know who to believe. I thought medical professionals were trustworthy but they are all giving different advice Confused
Mum just says we did what we liked and you 4 are all ok! Helpful much thanks mum Smile
My sister was told to drink stout every night so she did! It's not that long ago either!

BeforeIChangeMyMind · 08/06/2015 21:16

How rude of me! My previous post should have started by thanking you all for your lovely congratulations. I got a bit teary reading them all on the end of the other thread, then didn't say thanks. So sorry all!

Baby needs a name, but he definitely isn't the name we had in mind pre-birth, so we're a bit stuck. He also looks so much like DS1 did when he was born, I keep calling him by DS1's name, which doesn't help! Anyone got any top tips on how to pick a baby name?
