Hi can i join? Found out i was with child on thursday and just about digested it now... ! Baby due 9th feb according to lmp calculator

I have a million questions if anyone would like to indulge, ill start off with these 2... sorry if i seem utterly clueless - i am!

  1. i am terrified of losing this baby, so paranoid, i keep getting really weepy about it - could i possibly have a scan to check for a heartbeat? im 5w+4d.

  2. i didnt think you could get pregnant during your period? so surely im not 5 weeks pregnant?! surely im about 3??? so confused!

thanks everyone... i shall go rtft now!

purdiepie · 13/06/2015 06:07

Welcome noodle. A hb can usually be detected from 6+3 but mc can still occur after that, which is why folks tend to leave it until 8 or so wks for improved success rates.

You count your pregnancy from the first day of your lmp (last menstrual period) which means, in theory, you were already about two weeks preggo at ovulation.

I've been up since 4.45 with the tot. A kind of terror comes over me when I think I have to do all of this again in such quick succession.

RattyCatty · 13/06/2015 06:57

purdie my gums are ok but my dentist said that they might become inflamed & bleed in pregnancy.

TMI and question coming up... Is it safe to masturbate during the first trimester? Internet full of different advice not that I want to but I'd never forgive myself if I did & then something happened...

rallytog1 · 13/06/2015 07:06

Welcome noodle. Rest assured it's totally normal to feel the way you do at this stage.

rallytog1 · 13/06/2015 07:18

Sorry, posted too soon. You probably can't get an NHS scan until you're around 12 weeks but there are various private places (babybond etc) where you can pay for a scan from around 7/8 weeks. Until then, it's basically a case of holding on for the ride. It is scary at this early stage but we're all in the same boat, so you're in good company here.

twinsandapenguin · 13/06/2015 07:25

purdie you need to get flossing! Religiously. And probably see your hygienist too, (if it won't make you wretch to have someone poking in your mouth). Pregnancy is really bad for your teeth so they need a little extra care

primarynoodle · 13/06/2015 07:30

thanks for the replies!

so in theory then, when i go for my 12 week scan my baby will actually be about 10 weeks?

it is terrifying, i wish i hadnt found out so soon! but i suppose its given me the kick up the arse to stop smoking!!

GoulashSoup · 13/06/2015 07:31

Morning all, sorry for going AWOL. Just busy and tired here. Welcome all new BFPs, congratulations!

purdie bleeding gums is normal, I had it last time. So far this time just little nose bleeds. It is really different this time but that is a good thing.

noodle the worry is natural, but there isn't a lot we can do at this stage. That is why the mw and epu etc are so disinterested till 12 weeks. Early scans and mw appts don't make a difference to outcome so are not a good use of resources. It is harsh, and feels like you are on your own not knowing what to expect. You can pay for a private early scan but I would wait until it is more likely you will see a heartbeat to avoid unnecessary worry.

Onecurrantbun · 13/06/2015 07:38

Purdie you will be fine, and what a blessing for your children to have each other. 4.45 though?! Ouch! Was that bouncing off the walls, up for the day? How old is your little one? DD2 (16m) doesn't sleep through yet but is easy to settle in the night and only up once thesedays.

Noodle as others have said there won't be a hb at this stage, and if you can hold off and see a hb at 8 weeks the risk of loss drops to around 2%. I have an early scan with a local company booked for £59. But I'm afraid worrying will be a way of life now!

GoulashSoup · 13/06/2015 07:43

Yes noodle, they count you as pregnant for the two weeks before conception so at you 12 week scan it is only 10 weeks since you got pregnant.

Mumof1sofar · 13/06/2015 07:58

Hi all, can I join please? Just got my bfp this morning so I'm feeling very excited! How are all you ladies feeling? Many symptoms yet?

PassiveAggressiveSmiley · 13/06/2015 08:04

Hello, can I join.
Got a bfp yesterday, dc3 for me, 1st for my partner.
Due date 17th feb.

Sore boobs, feeling bloated, dry mouth, slight queasiness are the only symptoms so far. Oh and feeling heavy, going for a walk felt hard yesterday Blush

Had hyperemesis with dc1 so terrified of that happening again, will be straight to the Dr demanding help if it does kick in.

MayFlowers16 · 13/06/2015 08:10

Mumo Yay! Grin (it's *May/Marys from the bf/ttc thread) Fab news, glad to see you here.

Brummiegirl15 · 13/06/2015 08:18

Hi Ratty you can masturbate however when you orgasm if can feel really intense and quite crampy and it scared the life out of me!!! So nothing wrong with it, I just didn't like how it felt.

Noodle the worry is absolutely natural but you will not get an early scan from the EPAU unless you have a history of miscarriage or are experiencing pain and bleeding.

I had one yesterday and I'm 6+3 and saw the heartbeat and you are still too early really to see anything.

Lots of places though offer private scans from around £80-£100

Brummiegirl15 · 13/06/2015 08:19

More newbies!! Hello!

primarynoodle · 13/06/2015 08:21

weirdly i feel better being on here knowing im not the only one worrying haha!

i guess were all in it together! not feeling sick yet though so not looking forward to that kicking in..

NoMontagues · 13/06/2015 08:25

I'm looking forward to doing it all over again, and if this pregnancy goes well I'm delighted that my younger two will be so close in age. I do worry about the practicalities of two under 18 months, obviously.

It's actually the impact on my older DD (14yo) that I'm most worried about. She seems very independent but of course she isn't. I worry that I'll overlook her needs in the maelstrom of the early months with a newborn and DS.

Mumof1sofar · 13/06/2015 08:45

Hi May/Mary Smile So nice to see you here!

Bosabosa · 13/06/2015 09:11

I just got my BFP on Tuesday so would like to join this club! No chundering yet but cramps, nausea and 'period-legs' (sorry, no other way to describe it!) I do have. My stomach is massive too-all bloating but this won't be easy to hide! And this is my first pregnancy but I do have DSD and DSS whom I adore-looking forward to telling them. Good luck to us February ladies- cannot wait til week 12...

StockingFullOfCoal · 13/06/2015 09:15

passive my EDD is also 17th February!

Got on my scales yesterday and they said 11st 6lbs... I was 11st 1lbs last week Shock Was quite upset... Although my boobs could account for that 5lbs they are huge. I was on Day 10 of Induction (Atkins) when I got BFP so I've jumped to the Maintenance phase as I can't really be losing whilst pregnant?! Anyone?! I'm just worried because at my height, that weight tips me into the obese category. I'm continuing with Pilates because my core needs all the help it can get!

StockingFullOfCoal · 13/06/2015 09:19

My start weights in previous pregnancies were: 7st 7lbs (underweight) 8st 7lbs (bottom of healthy BMI) and 9st 10lbs (bang in the middle) as I've got older I've got flabbier (I was 17, 21, 23 and I'm now almost 29) and I definitely wasn't expecting a BFP after our first cycle of "re-trying" as DH called it. Hmmm.

Mumof1sofar · 13/06/2015 09:26

This will be my 2nd pregnancy - dd1 is 13 mo & I'm still at least a stone heavier than I was pre-pg Blush Last pregnancy I put on about 4 stone though Blush

What's everyone's edd? Mine is 21st Feb Smile

NoMontagues · 13/06/2015 09:41

I'm losing, stocking well- I had been but it will probably halt soon.

I've lost 2 kilos since my BFP 3 weeks ago. I had been losing weight slowly but surely up to that point, since having DS last Aug.

I'm still 64 kilos now, much heavier than I was going into my last pregnancy. So I hope to at least plateau for a while this time.

rallytog1 · 13/06/2015 09:41

Welcome everyone! There's a stats spreadsheet on the first post of this thread, so please add your details if you wish.

Bosabosa · 13/06/2015 09:52

My EDD is either 11th or 17th February- my cycle does not behave itself!
