November 2015 ladies! Time to feel the glow!

Are you expecting a babe in November this year? If so, get ready to get glowing. Breaking out in spots, or tears, or both is part of the so called glow. Feeling sick, contemplating births and having the odd good day of eating well is also all glow.

Come on then. Wee in the corner to mark your spot. Have some Brew or Cake or Wine. Then glow.

Wow thatduck snow now! My hospital is next to the football ground, it's a pain getting anywhere near it when the football is on.

doomclaw · 04/06/2015 21:07

Sorry to everyone who has had a bad day.

Apart from work being too busy I had a good day. Had my 16 week midwife appointment and although she didn't offer the chance to hear the hb everything else was ok. I also had the quad test results letter through and I am low risk. Chance of Downs is 1:1800 which doesn't seem too bad for a 39 year old.

To whoever was asking about hayfever sorry you are suffering. Mine seems much better this year - almost as if my body can't be bothered to react to the allergens because it is busy doing other things. I am using the Beconase spray which helps. If I have a sore or itchy throat I usually drink nettle tea - it seems to numb the throat a but and stop the itching. In previous years when it has been bad I have used the nasal breathing strips at night. If it is really bad I think that there are some antihistamines you can take but not sure which ones.

annatha · 04/06/2015 21:27

blueblink I'm rhesus negative and the only difference it made to my pg was the anti d later on. Tbh if I'd bashed my tummy or had a fall I'd go to get checked out anyway so don't worry about it. DH knows he's rhesus negative too but as everyones said hospitals are so distrustful so I had anti d anyway. I think if baby does end up rhesus positive then you have another injection after the birth but that's it.

I've had my booking bloods done three times so far this pg* once at booking, once because I'd moved and once because they missed a letter out on my surname. I wouldn't mind but up here the bloods are all sent to Newcastle anyway!

SnozzberryPie · 04/06/2015 21:53

If your dh or dp is rhesus negative and you know he is the father then I would just refuse the injection, they can't force you and I wouldn't be having unnecessary treatment just because the hospital said so.

cryingbabymess · 04/06/2015 21:59

Thatduck, I remembered something for a change! Wink

The snow will be on the hills is it not? You'll be fine, try not to worry about it. The past few Novembers haven't been too bad for snow so hopefully won't be too bad this year! I'm also an hour away from the hospital but in the other direction from you. I hope you're alright and I know it's not any conciliation but I'm probably only about 90 minutes drive away from you if you need to chat etc. plus we're all on here! Smile

roughtyping · 04/06/2015 22:16

Wow duck whereabouts are you? Can't believe there's still snow lying Shock

annatha · 04/06/2015 22:28

thatduck I lived in rural Cumbria last year and had dd in Nov. I completely get where your coming from as we were an hour away from the hospital and I was terrified of snow cutting us off! The hospital will be used to the worst conditions though, they'll probably use an air ambulance if the roads are completely blocked so don't worry about getting stuck! I'd just set off in good time, most places say when contractions are less than 5 minutes apart and lasting over a minute but if you think its time just go in. The worst they can do is send you to walk around the hospital grounds if you're not ready yet.

annatha · 04/06/2015 22:29

*you're not your! Gahh.

Gr33dyeggs · 04/06/2015 22:43

Well opposite to most I have had a nice day! Sorry to those who haven't. The only downside is I look like a rhubarb and custard sweet because I had lunch outside and let her have the shade (she's ginger) and have burnt my right arm and side of face! Rather cross with myself but it should tan by tomorrow.

Gr33dyeggs · 04/06/2015 22:44

Lunch outside with a friend

austengirl · 04/06/2015 22:57

blueblink I'm O- and have known for years. The antiD injection comes up at virtually every appointment I have with the midwives or at a clinic. Mr AG doesn't know his blood type and hates needles so is in no hurry to find out, but no ones asked to test him either, I guess for the reasons mentioned above. I'll probably end up getting the injection, even though it's my first pregnancy.

An interesting bit of family lore is that my great grandmother's second child died a few days after birth due to Rhesus disease (according to my grandmother, who was the first child). No idea if/how my gg's health was affected during the pregnancy, but there were no more children. My guess is that even if they understood Rhesus incompatibility in the 1920s, they had no preventative treatment for it.

LadyStark · 04/06/2015 23:17

Ugh, I hear you on the hayfever front, my GP prescribed me cetirizine which I promptly bought over the counter (well, DP did, pharmacist refused to give them to me earlier today) as my NHS exemption card hasn't come through yet. Has anyone got one yet? If so, how long after receiving the letter?

Wouldn't ordinarily bother me but needing to have something prescribed and therefore costing me £8.60 or whatever it is instead of the £2 they cost to buy normally is kinda annoying.

Alittlebitofeverything · 05/06/2015 07:11

Lady stark cetirizine is what I took pre pregnancy, I hadn't realised I could take it while I'm pregnant. I'll give the docs a call, maybe I don't have to suffer away! I had my nhs exception card really early, maybe only a couple of days after my first midwife appt at 8 weeks although haven't actually had to use it yet.

Lauramum23 · 05/06/2015 07:25

ThAts a bit shit that they wouldn't let you get a prescription! I forgot to take mine to pharmacy the other day ( major thrush) and they just let me have it. This was on the minor ailments sceme I imagine you could get hay fever stuff as well on that. You should have your card by now. I really need to put mine in my purse!

Lauramum23 · 05/06/2015 07:27

And hayfever sufferers you can put Vaseline or get proper nose creme round your nostrils and it prevents it getting up ur nose!?

Gr33dyeggs · 05/06/2015 07:52

I've used my card a couple of times - I got it around 8 weeks. I ticked the exemption bit before it arrived, because it covers the whole month you applied iirc.
I'm still rather red, I now have a vague recollection of skin being more sensitive during pregnancy! Better buy some spf ladies Smile hopes for a nice summer

Amyyy27 · 05/06/2015 09:24

Im 17+2 and don't have my card... in fact it has never been mentioned! Is there something I have to do to get it?

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 05/06/2015 09:43

There should be a green form in your notes somewhere. I find they never bloody mention it! I've only just got mine because I asked. You need to fill it out, get a midwife to sign it and send it off.

Speaking of forms, I can't remember when the MATB1 was done last time either. It needs to be after 20 weeks but as far as I'm aware, you don't see a midwife at 20 weeks?! If I don't see anyone until 24 weeks, that only give me a week before work needs it! Can a consultant sign it?

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 05/06/2015 10:10

I got mine last time after 25 weeks I think. I'd notified work anyway by then and they didn't mind getting it a week late as they had the estimated due date from me already. But yeah, the midwife appointment is just after you're supposed to hand it in!

notgonnatell · 05/06/2015 10:10

I had to go to my doctors to fill out the prescription exemption form and get them to sign it as the midwives didn't have a copy of the form. They sent it off and it took about 3 weeks from then for the card to arrive.

You have a 25 week checkup so I'll be getting my matb1 form then and emailing it to hr days before they need it.

Amyyy27 · 05/06/2015 10:26

I don't have any form for it :( Will ring GP/midwife and find out.

I was also told MATB1 is given at the 25 week appointment.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 05/06/2015 10:53

I was wondering... who's got the first anomaly scan? Mines on Thursday (they moved my dates forward to 29th October) but I think there's some others than got bumped into October too? Feeling nervous.

Alittlebitofeverything · 05/06/2015 11:23

Mine isn't for over 5 weeks, I am not due till 29th November so a month behind you.

Also, I have just spoken to my doctors regarding the hay fever issue and they have advised cetirizine isn't safe to take during pregnancy and instead have prescribed me with loretadine (sp?) I do wish they would make their minds up, it seems we are being given conflicting advice.

Amyyy27 · 05/06/2015 11:26

Oh Abbey that's not long to wait! Mine is not until Wednesday 24th June, but we do have a private scan arranged for not this Saturday but next, also nervous!

stace1986 · 05/06/2015 11:39

My scan is 4 weeks today. I am already starting to feel nervous :/
