November 2015 ladies! Time to feel the glow!

Are you expecting a babe in November this year? If so, get ready to get glowing. Breaking out in spots, or tears, or both is part of the so called glow. Feeling sick, contemplating births and having the odd good day of eating well is also all glow.

Come on then. Wee in the corner to mark your spot. Have some Brew or Cake or Wine. Then glow.

Abbey, I also like the bugaboo but it just looks really bulky and wide, and you have to remove everything to fold so not sure how practical it is (and very expensive of course!).

Guy, someone in our mums group has the city select for her twins and she's really happy with it. I have absolutely no idea how much it costs new or if I can find a second hand one in my area. Need to look into it. I also like the fact that babies are facing you and you can keep an eye on them ( every 2 seconds). And I like the fact that in the toddler seats, they both have a 'view' and no one is in the boot ( like Abbey would say).

Someone mentioned the mountain buggy. I have a friend with it, she loves it because it's a very narrow side by side, but therefore the seats are really narrow too and I know my dd always liked a wide seat better. Also the carricot doesn't last very long for same reasons, 4 months tops.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 27/05/2015 13:53

I think I'm going to ignore prams for a while longer! The ostrich 'head in the sand' solution Grin
I'm really hoping to be able to use my current one and a sling for a while and then not need a carrycot. This worked with DS really soon after my section, but I just can't be sure what DC2 will like or how recovery will be this time

Hope everyone is feeling ok. DH has got my giant pillow out of the attic which excites me more than is perhaps normal. Now we just need DS to sleep and not practice rolling (and getting stuck on his belly every hour then screeching because he can't roll back yet) during the night and sleep might happen Smile

I went to buy some maternity trousers yesterday and couldn't resist a teeny hat. It's the first thing I bought but I felt a little naughty! I know people say it's ok to now but we all still worry. Anyone else bought anything? I was going to check out the Aldi baby event tomorrow too.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 27/05/2015 14:06

Quad bloods all done - Yep, just a normal blood test, took about a minute! They will call within a week if there are any concerns.

cryingbabymess · 27/05/2015 15:40

If I see stuff at the baby event tomorrow then I'll be buying it but I've told my dad it'll be getting stored at his for a while!

BowiesJumper · 27/05/2015 16:39

helo we're in the exact same position living wise! We're in a titchy 1 bed flat in East London which is already packed to the rafters with crap (will have to have a cull!) and we have to move.

We're hoping on buying back near my parents but I have to speak to the mortgage broker to see if we can afford anything habitable, otherwise it's off to my parents for a couple of months to save a bit. Bit embarrassing!! But at least I'm registered at the hospital near them (never changed my docs so that's where I'm booked in, plus it's nearer my work and had always vaguely planned on moving back there - just the other side of London). I just need to DO something about it all! Squeak. All very grown up all of a sudden.

Laura I think a hat is allowed!!

Heir glad the blood test was swift!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 27/05/2015 16:53

Good luck to those moving! I did last pregnancy, and similar situation with a tiny London flat renting and so bought just 15 mins train ride out of London. Gutted to leave London but still near enough to go in regularly and we got a 3 bed terrace for less than an outer zone 1 bed flat, and bizarrely our mortgage is less than our rent was
Anyway, had offer accepted in May, no chain either end, DS due late October. Ended up moving when he was a few weeks old (he was a month early and house took ages) and I'd had an emcs so couldn't help at all with lifting. It was rather crazy as we were hoping for some cross over with our rented place as we were on 2 months notice but our landlord chucked us out (I know they can't do this but after the birth etc I hadn't the energy to fight it so we just moved straight in) so we sleeping on a mattress on the floor like students as we had a flat pack bed I couldn't help construct for a few weeks because of the lifting
Anyway, what I wanted to say was DS totally didn't mind - he just slept. So if you need to move afterwards I'd say it's fine as they don't start taking up the space / need entertaining until maybe 6 months old?

Blueblink · 27/05/2015 16:57

OK I've got a really silly food question coming up:
I've got a real hankering for some fish and chips and we are going out for lunch tomorrow at work. I have of course been googling the menu and they have fish and chips so i'm stoked! BUT its cider battered fish and chips.... thoughts please? I'm thinking that the cooking process eliminates the alcohol? Its also probably a really minimal amount right? (I'm not usually this neurotic I promise!)

BowiesJumper · 27/05/2015 17:02

That's encouraging Abbey! I think we've cut it a bit fine to buy by the time November comes around, hence the cross over at my parents place!

Which at least saves a bit of money and my parents are super helpful and welcoming. I'm sure we'll get on each others wicks though!

I'll give that mortgage broker a call!

Blue I don't think that amount of cider will harm the baby even if you drank it! And yes most of the alcohol will be cooked off. Enjoy!

SnozzberryPie · 27/05/2015 17:24

Blue I would eat it without a second thought!

stickytoffeegirl · 27/05/2015 17:48

bowie we're in the same situation, our house is in the process of being sold and we haven't found anywhere yet. Trying to be patient and not just buy something for the sake of it but really want to be in our own house when the baby comes. Fingers crossed something comes up!

roughtyping · 27/05/2015 18:15

Oh jealous of you guys moving! We live in a little 2 bed house, one room is DSs and will not be making him share with such a big age gap so baby will be in with us. Wish we could buy but just not feasible ATM.

annatha sorry I did understand your post! I just meant maybe my midwife just won't do it for anyone, perhaps just refuses to? Who knows!

gennibugs · 27/05/2015 18:27

Loving all this talk of shopping and prams Grin

I have a list and a few pinterest boards but am yet to buy anything. I'm trying to leave it as late as I can as once I start I won't be able to stop! The thing that's foxing me at the moment is sleeping. moses basket? crib? cot? cot bed? To Ikea or not Ikea? It's a minefield!!

I'm also trying to delay MIL buying anything, she keeps sending me links of clothing etc which she loves but are so not mine or DH's taste and which I don't think are appropriate for little ones! I know she means well though but I just don't want her spending lots of money on things that will never get used.

StAlphonsosPancakeBreakfast · 27/05/2015 18:31

Fingers crossed Heir

It would not cost me a thought to have cider-battered fish! I had a small glass of wine last weekend, it was very nice. I'm reasonably relaxed about these things.

God yeah, I've just remembered I'll have to find somewhere to live in August or September too, DP and I are supposed to be moving in together. I keep forgetting about it. Grin

I'm so excited, I'm flying home tomorrow to see my family for a few days, for the first time since Christmas. I can't wait!

HeirToTheIronThrone · 27/05/2015 19:40

Blue I had a glass of cava on Saturday and another on Sunday so I reckon you're all good with the batter. That fish sounds delicious!

I have the green light from DH to pop into Aldi tonorrow Grin No idea where we will put things, we have a little 2 bed flat and although the second bedroom will be perfect for a nursery there is a lot of crap wants clearing out first! Oh well, we can always stick it in the shed for now I suppose...

Blueblink · 27/05/2015 19:49

Yeah I don't know why I was being so neurotic about that! I think it crossed my mind that DP would question it (because now I'm carrying his child he thinks he can have a say in what I eat!) but he's not coming to lunch and I want my fish and chips!
Been looking at buggys online today! Will hopefully go and test drive some at the weekend! Damn they are expensive! My lovely Nan has offered to buy us one but I don't think she realises what she's letting herself in for so we'll probably go halfs with her!

Laura7010 · 27/05/2015 19:57

Gennibugs, I was wondering whether to ikea or not too?! Thought we might go and have a look tomorrow, see what they've got. Anyone else have an idea cot before? Good/bad idea? So much to think about!!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 27/05/2015 20:03

Everyone's so organised, very impressive. I still need to do DS's room / nursery...before the baby comes Blush My go-to excuse is that he was early, but to be honest I've always been a bit last minute about shopping

What Blueblink says reminds me of when I was showing with DS. My colleagues wouldn't let me cross the road without the green man. No one gave a stuff before I was pregnant!

CoffeeTwo · 27/05/2015 20:04

We have the ikea gulliver cot and it's fab. DS age 3 is still in it with the side off. We'll be turning it into a Co sleeper for this baby :)

flyingsprocket · 27/05/2015 20:19

Cannot stop eating today. I've been pretty lazy too so don't particularly feel I've earned any of these treats I'm feeding myself Blush

Gr33dyeggs · 27/05/2015 20:43

Roughtyping how old is your ds? We will have a nearly 7 year gap but we're intending them to share for a few years.

annatha · 27/05/2015 21:08

roughtyping no worries! I usually MN one handed while feeding dd so I'd be surprised if most of my posts made sense Grin

gennibugs and laura we haven't got an IKEA cot but lots of my friends have and ice heard good things. A few have taken a side off to make it into a co sleeper. In considering going straight to a cot this time, I used a moses basket with dd and it was hard getting her to move to the cot. Abbeyroad she was a fan of rolling and getting stuck too, so dh made a sort of nest out of my pregnancy pillow and tucked it under a single bed sheet to make it more cosy and keep her in one place. It now looks like a massive Moses basket. I'd quite like my pillow back but I'd rather have a full nights sleep while I can!

austengirl · 27/05/2015 21:14

::waves hello::

I'm a new mumsnetter and expecting our first in early November. So far everything's fine, I've been very lucky. I had the 16 week appointment yesterday and got to hear the heartbeat. Smile Wasn't expecting the midwife to offer, but it was a nice surprise.

Not planning on buying anything before 20 weeks, but I'll remember all the pram advice. My SIL has offered us hers, so I'll see what it's like before buying anything.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 27/05/2015 21:20

annatha that's a great idea, I think I'll construct something like that, thanks

roughtyping · 27/05/2015 21:28

gr33dyeggs DS will be nearly 12 when baby is born, so a teenager when baby is a toddler - really can't do that to him! Would rather baby was in with us if needs must. He's so excited about a brother or sister, don't want to ruin it for him Wink
