coffee I think I'll have the Harmony scan. I had a private Oscar scan last time, which was great but is no longer available. The Harmony is seriously expensive but I'm of "advanced maternal age" & can't take any chances.

MamaDoughnut · 26/05/2015 19:03

Lol olI know oyster Grin

TeenieDeenie · 26/05/2015 19:14

Crumble what is the harmony scan and tests? I've heard a few ladies speaking about them on quite a few of the threads.

jellypi3 · 26/05/2015 19:18

I'd love the harmony test, but i'm saving for a wedding as well as this baby, plus i'm 25 so at the lower risk spectrum.

teenie it's an advanced test for genetic illnesses such as downs syndrome

Lookingforadvice123 · 26/05/2015 19:25

fizzy if you haven't already maybe mention to your midwife about the horrible sonographer? No one should be made to feel like that xx

TeenieDeenie · 26/05/2015 19:26

Thanks Jelly, I just went and had a look online. Can't seem to see any costs for this test, has anyone had one before? What are we talking price wise?

mrschatty · 26/05/2015 19:28

My hospital told me it's just under £500 for harmony test!
I'm going for a private scan I've decided. £85 I'm sure we'll spent x

jellypi3 · 26/05/2015 19:35

i got my 6 week scan free because i signed up to a conception trial last year, quite happy about it actually!

teenie yeah it's about £450-500 for the harmony tests. I know a few people who have had it

ValancyJane · 26/05/2015 20:00

Fizzy Glad your scan today went well :)

The scanning place I'm looking at going to is 'This Is My' which also seems to be a chain - has anyone had their scan there, and if so did you rate it? Am looking at booking in for two weeks time or so.

Won't be having the Harmony test, but will be having all the free ones the NHS do routinely I think.

Oysterbabe · 26/05/2015 20:09

Well I'll just be having the free scans Grin

Lookingforadvice123 · 26/05/2015 20:14

oyster you're in the majority just waiting for your NHS scans though it's not reflected on here! Everyone I know in RL bar one couple (and they only went private due to a previous miscarriage) have just happily waited for their NHS scan, wish I could do the same! But I can't face going out of my mind for the next 4+ weeks x

impatientlywaiting · 26/05/2015 20:28

Fizzy what a difficult weekend it must have been for you with that worry, especially having had previous miscarriages. Must have been awful. So pleased you had a positive scan today.

You should consider complaining through PALS, would mean it would be feedback to the sonographer and make reduce the liklihood of another person having to go through that. Xx

OTheHugeManatee · 26/05/2015 20:43

fizzy Lots of sympathy from me too. So glad it's a positive scan today!

I've got all the frets too after my mmc scare in Greece last week and am now booked in to the local EPU for a second scan this coming Friday to see how things are progressing. It's so hard to live with the uncertainty.

brickiemum2 · 26/05/2015 20:46

I'm also in epu for a scan this Friday othm after my last scan showed the heartbeat was very slow. What time is yours at?

OTheHugeManatee · 26/05/2015 20:47

11am for me, brickie. Virtual hand-hold? Smile

brickiemum2 · 26/05/2015 21:06

Virtual hand hold indeed. Mine is at 8.40am with the same mw that diagnosed my mmc. In the same room. My hand might be shaking slightly...

Sorry to hear of your worries ladies Sad sending positive vibes and nice hcp wishes to you all x

Joey0805 · 26/05/2015 21:17

I think we'll have the Harmony test as well; my husband is kind of keen to have every test going tbh!

Personally I found my 7 week scan very reassuring. Obviously things can go wrong between that and the 12 week one but knowing that it's not ectopic, there's a heartbeat and all was growing as it should felt really good and in the week since I had it done I've not been stressing it's all gone wrong since the scan!

For those of you that have been pregnant before: I'm going to be a bridesmaid when I'm 21 weeks. I had my dress already and it was pretty big (was going to get it taken on) and when I found out I was PG I bought it agin 1 size bigger which, at the moment, is very big on me. Do you think I'll fit into that bigger dress? I'm 6ft talk so the baby will have quite a bit of space before it needs to really pop out and I'm really sporty so have strong muscles (I read somewhere that means the bump will take longer to come through)? I know it's hard to answer but any thoughts welcome!!

Tonicandgin · 26/05/2015 21:32

Joey - will you have your dress fitted/altered before the wedding?

Because of the weird shape you end up being, a larger size is obvs bigger everywhere when in fact you may just have bigger boobs and tummy only, or just a tummy. Depends on your shape.

Last time, I was in mat trousers by 19 wks with a mini bump and wore floaty tops a size bigger, but they weren't that flattering tbh as they were big all over. If you could get someone to take the bigger dress in at the points you'd need it that should work.

Tonicandgin · 26/05/2015 21:33

Best of luck for everyone with scans tomorrow.

brickiemum2 · 26/05/2015 21:33

Joey I would say if anyone is going to have a really neat bump at 20 odd weeks it would be a 6ft, sporty, first time mum with strong stomach muscles. Personally I was the size of a house but I'm a 5ft fatty lol.

OP posts:
parsnipbob · 26/05/2015 21:41

I'm 5ft 3 and just over 10 st, I'm worried im going to end up being a massive fat pig :$

TeenieDeenie · 26/05/2015 22:05

The harmony test does sound great but there's no way we could afford it. A few early scans it is then...

I already look like I've put on half a stone but know it's just bloating at this point. Just been out for a wee walk, 1.5 miles, nothing strenuous and feel good for it but am beginning to get that cold way which seems to be quite common in the evenings. Off to curl up in bed and read magazines.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 26/05/2015 22:26

So...do you wait for the nuchal results and then if you've got a high risk result go for a harmony scan? Or an amnio? What is a harmony scan?

Confused!

MissMartin1992 · 26/05/2015 22:36

can i book an early scan for about 6 weeks if i haven't had an appointment with my dr yet? by the time i finally get in ill be atleast 7w.. i just want reassurance that baby is in the right place as i have a massive obsession with eptopic or to heart a heartbeat??
