I'm waiting for my glucose test results too. I had the test on Monday and they said that they would phone me in 2-3 days if it was positive for diabetes. I haven't heard anything yet so I am working on the basis that no news is good news.

Stainlessteel · 16/07/2015 16:45

I have to start mat leave 6 weeks before my due date, so will finish ~10th September. I have rather a lot of holiday to use in that time so am considering going down to working only 4 days a week for a while. I don't get to use my full 16 weeks mat leave though since my contract finishes in the middle, which makes me sad. I love my job. Oh well. Guess I'll take advantage of being unemployed to bond with the Grub, and leave applying for new jobs for a couple of months.

gaggiagirl · 16/07/2015 16:51

steel will you stay in your current location after the baby is born?
That's such a shame about your contract.

OP posts:
Stainlessteel · 16/07/2015 23:20

Will stay here for a while. Will marry the frenchman at some point over the summer so I & the Grub can be covered on his health insurance once my job ends (I'm such a romantic - he is a very lucky frenchman!). There's rumours of a new position opening doing what I do, where I work currently, but if it doesn't come about, or if it does and I don't get the job, we'll have to rethink things and then might end up moving somewhere else.

I go from being certain that things will work out to crippled with fear and regretting ever deciding that now was a good time to have a baby.

BeautifulBatman · 17/07/2015 08:51

Ok. I think (almost defiinite) I experienced my first braxton hicks contractors. Omg. No pain but so uncomfortable. I'm going to be useless in labour Sad

BeautifulBatman · 17/07/2015 08:51

Contractions!!

ollieplimsoles · 17/07/2015 08:52

super fingers crossed you don't get a phone call! They told me they only ring if its raised and you need to see the diabetes nurse, if not then they don't call you. Results for mine are out today so I'm hoping that phone doesn't ring!

steel there is never really a 'good' time to have a baby because something always comes up at times like this that will make you doubt yourself. I really hope that job comes about for you but if not I'm sure something even better will come around

Superexcited · 17/07/2015 11:19

Ollie - fingers crossed for you too that you don't get a phone call about the GTT. I still haven't heard anything so think the test must have been okay which I am surprised about as I have 4 high risk factors, but my BMI is normal so that must have helped.

I have been getting lots of beaxton hicks the last few days, more than I ever got in previous pregnancies. I think I had about 5 in 1 hour a couple of nights ago and was getting worried but then I didn't have another for over an hour.

gaggiagirl · 17/07/2015 20:55

steel you must of course marry the Frenchman.....he is fiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!! And he comes with free health insurance. Win win Grin

batfish · 18/07/2015 12:13

steel things will work out I'm sure, try not to worry. We decided that it was the right time to have a baby and hubby is since no longer in a job and is looking at business opportunities which means no regular income for him for the foreseeable and I'm trying to be cool about it all even though he was earning a lot more than me and I'll be on mat leave before too long! We have savings but I wasn't envisaging using them for just getting through normal life and they're also tied up so it's going to be a hassle to withdraw. So anyway my point was that even if it is 'the right time' shit can happen to make you feel like it's all out of control. Best laid plans and all that!

ollieplimsoles · 19/07/2015 07:58

No phone call! I think I got away with it! :D very relieved as we are still hoping for homebirth and ive heard gestational diabetes can put a spanner in the works

mpeppin · 19/07/2015 11:59

Thought it would be a good opportunity to catch up on baby info all in one place!

Cineraria · 20/07/2015 10:41

Hello, I haven't posted since the first couple of pages of this thread due to going away on holiday / making things for the baby / falling asleep on the sofa etc. I hope you are all keeping well. I'll read through and catch up.

Bumpfest sounds great but I decided against it as I'm due the following day and only start maternity leave the day before so I think there is a high chance I'd be too tired or too busy to go!

We're starting antenatal classes this week and that is making me feel like the end is in sight as I kept thinking they were too late when I booked them. Has anyone else been attending any?

gingerbreadmam · 20/07/2015 15:19

im just doing the nhs antenatal classes but not until september. theres only 3 to attend so should be ok.

i did nearly book on the july ones but my due date is 21 october and they told me id forget it all by then lol.

ooh what things have you been making?

id been watching a pram on argos go down and down in price notdaringtobuyincaseanythinggoeswrong showed it to my dm yesterday saying i didnt know whether i should order it or not incase it sells out. checked on argos today and theyre gone Angry

Cineraria · 20/07/2015 18:47

Your NHS is good, Ginger, if you get three classes. We only get one and that covers just the hospital stuff, such as what to bring with you, when to come and what happens during labour, i.e. what will happen in your body and what your options are at each stage and after the labour. We wanted more about looking after the baby when it's born too, as we're both completely new to this, so we thought we'd also book the NCT ones.

Sorry to hear about your pram. It's so frustrating to lose a bargain like that. Keep your eye on the site though; maybe someone will change their mind and return one. Have you got a back-up choice in case you don't get this one?

I'm making clothes for him, mostly knitted or crocheted socks, bootees, jackets, bonnets and I have just started a Shetland style shawl. I like quite traditional styles, so I have used a few vintage patterns and kept it all cream and white but might add some navy blue ribbons as fastenings.

I also made a pattern for sewing a sleeping outfit which opens out completely flat and wraps around before fastening over the arms and the body, so it should be easy for night changes and getting dressed if he's not co-operative about the process. It's hard to describe but when it's on, it looks a bit like a kimono at the top, for the chest and arms, that turns into a pillow case lower down to cover the legs and body. When I stitched the trial version, I really liked it but it was a bit big, so I need to do a smaller version.
