Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
gingerbreadmam · 20/07/2015 19:03

oh yes sounds like it then, we have a labour one a breastfeeding one then im guessing the other one is looking after baby.

its argos so doubt will come back in. we do like the venicci and its cheaper tbh so its maybe a good thing. just need to decide on a colour now ha!

oh i love crocheted stuff. we bought a crocheted hat from a market for our little one before we knew hes a boy and i am going to get the same one in blue. bet the shawl will be beautiful.

ive got lots of hand knitted cardigans bought from local craft fairs, so cute.

your sleep outfit sounds fab ive seen similar and have actually been buying bundlers for our ds which are a similar concept like a nighty / pillowcase at the bottom. i love them and hope theyre as handy as they look.

Superexcited · 20/07/2015 20:48

I don't even know if my NHS offers any antenatal classes but as it isn't my first baby I won't need them anyway. The midwife did tell me at my 16 week appointment to go on the maternity unit tour and decide on whether to have a home birth, use the Midwife birth centre or the hospital labour ward and I haven't been yet. I do need to go as this is a new hospital for us and we didn't have the choice of a midwife centre before.

gingerbreadmam · 20/07/2015 21:06

ooh super best get yourself booked on. i need to book my hospital tour too. dont know if i need one if i will be having a section will ask midwife at next visit.

AnnaBegins · 20/07/2015 22:02

I got offered NHS ones but not in my local area as they were full! But as we're doing nct I decided not to do NHS as well, as it's kind of got to the point where my life feels taken over by classes! Also I'm fed up of travelling for stuff, even have to go see a midwife much further away next week as mine is on holiday.

They won't do tours at our mlu Sad they say due to hygiene but I reckon it's for staffing and cost reasons.

Superexcited · 20/07/2015 22:25

We don't need to book to do the tour ginger, we can just turn up on the days that they do the tour which is 7pm on 3 days each week. I just need to get organised and go and do it.

gingerbreadmam · 21/07/2015 09:31

oh thats good well u will have to get checking your diary and pop along for a nosey. will be helpful.

Cineraria · 21/07/2015 11:21

How nice to get some lovely hand knits for your baby at craft fairs, Ginger. I haven't seen many around where we live. Babies look so cute and snuggly in knitted things and I like the thought of them wearing something that someone has taken time to make carefully by hand rather than flying off a machine in a factory.

Oh yes, I was forgetting about the tours. I think we're supposed to have one of our hospital too. I don't want to go until I know if I'm allowed to use the MLU, though. So far all the midwives and the consultants have said it would be best for me to go there but the midwife I see now at my GP surgery is a bit more of a doom and gloom type and says I'll probably have to use the hospital due to my age (I recently turned 40) unless I make a special request and it gets approved, so I'll do that at my appointment next week.

It's a shame they don't have a tour at your hospital, Anna. Do they do an online video one instead, maybe?

gingerbreadmam · 21/07/2015 11:24

you can get a lot of things like that on ebay if no craft places around? my dm used to knit a lot but has problems with her hands now and just had a carpel tunnel op which is a shame.

i cant believe if everything else is well why being 40 would affect giving birth thats just ridiculous. like you say discuss with your mw and see what her opinion is.

BeautifulBatman · 21/07/2015 13:27

Same as Cineraria - the birthing centre I would like to use is a bit funny about older first time mums (I'm also 40). DH is a bit panicky too though, he'd rather I was at a hospital.

Cineraria · 21/07/2015 14:16

Hope your mum's recovering well so she can have lots of cuddles with her new grandson, Ginger!

Batman, did you also get told they recommend inducing if you go over 40 weeks? I'm a bit bemused by the advice really. For all my appointments so far I was at the hospital and none of the midwives, consultants, sonographers etc. seemed to consider age to be a problem unless there are other risks but the one at the GP's surgery seems much more interested in making sure I stick to the guidelines. I could understand the hospital being preferred if the MLU wasn't in the same building about 20 steps away from the labour ward but I can't see an advantage in going there from the start. The induction thing does make some sense but my understanding is that the slight additional risk specifically related to age, rather than other risks that might affect older women is only present after 41 weeks.

BeautifulBatman · 21/07/2015 14:23

I live in Saudi (for DHs job) and antenatal care is non existant as far as all that goes. I'm having the baby in the uk though and I have heard that. Tbh; I'd quite like to be induced. My dh can't be in the uk indefinitely because of his job (one day pat. leave) so if we could 'control' the due date a bit I wouldn't mind.

gingerbreadmam · 21/07/2015 14:28

she is doing well thank you. be all ready for his arrival i would have thought Smile

if its in the same place would be easy enough to move you or get the right people in should you need it i would have thought.

batman fingers crossed for an induction for you, not often you hwar that Grin

Fabuluce · 22/07/2015 08:28

I have the same thing Cineraria - over 40, midwife has said from the start that it's the hospital and I have no choice, even though the MLU is in the same building and originally said induction at 40 weeks but now says 39! Not what I want Confused

Cineraria · 22/07/2015 10:06

Oh there are a few of us over 40. I hadn't realised. Sorry to hear you have no choice Fabuluce. I found it very odd that I was getting different information from the hospital team and the GP's team. If they'd said hospital from the start, I probably would have been ok with it as I've been there before and it is very nice too. I'll ask them to apply for the MLU anyway and see what happens. Have you been to see your hospital?

Glad to hear that you're fine with an induction, Batman. I really hope you manage to have the baby while your DH is around. Will you be travelling back to Saudi soon after having the baby?

I really don't want inducing, personally. I don't mind that it's more painful, although the increased chance of forceps is off-putting; I think I'm just nervous of it not working properly with the pessaries they use first and sitting around while they try that twice over a couple of days and then want to use a drip on me. I had treatment for needle phobia earlier this year and can now just about manage to have the blood tests and the whooping cough vaccination but can't see myself coping with something that's left in for hours, so I'll need to talk to the consultant about that before the time comes. I know I have to focus on what's best for the baby though.

It's so warm today. I've just found a swimsuit that fits me and I really want to go swimming. I feel a bit shy though as I haven't been for years. Hope I can still remember how!

batfish · 22/07/2015 12:57

Hi all, just checking in - have been keeping an eye on the Facebook page but not looked into here much so nice to see you're all doing well!

I think induction is the only thing I don't want and other than that my birth plan is just get it out however we can! But sounds like you have a good reason batman - would be crap if your hubby couldn't be there for the birth.

We've been getting ourselves a bit more organised - painted the nursery and we've found a cot but going to get it in a couple of weeks as the shop has a sale coming up. Also have told my mum which bouncer we want as she is getting it for us and bringing it out when she visits in August - and I've ordered the changing bag! I think I believe we're actually having a baby!

Docs appt tonight and they're giving me anti D injection please tell me it's not a bum one and we get to see how baby is cooking so I'm looking forward to that. Also hopefully getting fit to fly certificate from doc ready for hols on Fri!

BeautifulBatman · 22/07/2015 14:13

Cine yes, as soon as baby passport, visa for entry to ksa is sorted, baby and I will head back. I don't want dh missing out on the baby any more than is necessary.

batfish I actually considered an elcs but dh not keen. I also am already incredibly bored at 28 weeks pg so the thought of going up to 42 weeks is not good. I think I'm just being impatient tbh. It's a typical trait of mine Blush

gingerbreadmam · 22/07/2015 18:20

hi ladies. this is a sad one for me but would rather get it done and out of the way now. just been for one of our scans to check things are progressing, unfortunately my ds passed away about 3 weeks ago. i am going in hospital on friday to deliver him.

i just wanted to wish everyone well with their pregnancies and thank you all for all of your support throughout mine especially with the problems that were diagnosed.

good luck, all the best and i will keep popping on for all the updates on the new arrivals.

thank you so much Thanks

BeautifulBatman · 22/07/2015 18:22

Oh Ginger. I'm lost for words. I'm so so sorry. If there's anything I can do, please don't hesitate to ask. Flowers

Superexcited · 22/07/2015 18:23

Flowers for you ginger. I wish I could be there to offer you a huge hug. I will be thinking of you.

batfish · 22/07/2015 18:30

Oh ginger I'm so sorry I just don't know what to say, I can't believe it. You've been so brave with everything so far and you don't deserve this, little ginger has been very lucky to have had all of the love and care that he has been shown. Will be thinking of you on Friday, can't even imagine what you are going through.

gingerbreadmam · 22/07/2015 18:34

thank you everyone. i am heartbroken. we have been through so much not just with this baby but mmc and losing my mil. but we are strong and we have each other. also because of our ds's problems we are quite accepting. we were both petrified of what was going to happen once he got here and how it would affect him in the long run so we are taking it that he wasnt well enough for this world and this is the kindest thing that has happened. heartbreaking but kind.

thank you once again Thanks

gaggiagirl · 22/07/2015 18:42

ginger I'm so so sorry. I cant imagine what you're going through. If there is anything I can do or anything you need I'm not far away.
