Thinking about food is not silly at all. Getting hungry and dehydrated can stall labour, and the 'no food' thing is applied with a very heavy hand in hospitals I think. In my experience of a long labour I wasn't particularly hungry and had to be reminded to eat, but if I hadn't, I can't imagine I would have coped.
Smiley, contractions to me have always started pretty much like period pains, and intensified from there. So don't discount anything!
Scottish, protein in urine and raised BP are not unusual in late pregnancy so hopefully the monitoring will be reassuring.
Just had the midwife myself. To my surprise the baby is 3/5 engaged, which is encouraging. All signs fine, baby in a good position, we will contemplate a sweep on Thursday (40+5) if nothing happening, and I can also decide then if I want to see an obstretrician next week or not.
In the room listening to the heartbeat were my two year old, his nanny share, my friend and her 18 month old. Appointments at home are really lovely. Although the midwife did ask slightly nervously if I was planning on having the kids around when in labour. (I'm not.)
