Felt we might need a new thread to get through the night feeds and labours!

There's no consistency with hospitals cinnamon, ours had OHs staying in antenatal too and there was a bathroom for visitors. Such a need I think for a camp bed or roll up mat for OHs. I suppose in hindsight we would've brought our own mat.
Fi Our bedroom is 19.5; we have groegg too. I feel cold and wear pjs and a cardy yet according to their rules baby is not allowed much - grr.

daholster · 22/04/2015 12:28

Love Harriet Rose Lauren, beautiful. Goes well with dd1's name too Smile

Congratulations banana, that's impressive!!! Oliver is a great name, strong and good looking... Well, that's what my head thinks of anyway!

The night was rubbish, ds had a few choking sessions (keep drowning him when he is a bit sleepy poor mite) and he swallowed loads of air, couldn't get it up and he was unsettled for hours. Came downstairs at 3am and managed a feed eventually and a disrupted snooze, went back up at 6 so dd would find me in bed like I had explained. He still wouldn't settle and fed more. I'm exhausted. Plus at 3am just after we came down (with no bedding for me, grr) dd was screaming her head off for 5 mins then stopped. I assumed dh went in. Apparently not. He didn't hear her and slept right through it!!! Think she fell out of bed being a bit disturbed by the goings on but got herself back in, the wrong way up. Her room us next door to ours! I could hear her screaming blue murder downstairs with the doors shut!!!

Apparently dh is tired Hmm

ChickenMe · 22/04/2015 12:52

It astounds me how men can sleep thru the crying daholster but they can! Biology isn't it! I wake up if DD does the tiniest grunt. Then OH will say "oh she was quiet last night" and I'm like "er no she was grizzling and truffling all night"
Do you have a fast let down? Does your DS make a lot of noise in his sleep?

daholster · 22/04/2015 13:17

I do have a fast let down, he can manage it if he's alert. I'm always leaking milk everywhere too Hmm he grunts and squeaks if he's uncomfortable, needs a poo or burp etc but can sleep soundly and quietly if all is perfect in his world.

He fell asleep on the boob this lunch time and when I sat him up milk came out of his nose!!!! Poor little dude, he didn't seem that bothered though.

This baby weeks Luke a fountain at least 50% of nappy changes and poos about 30% (or if not during, straight after). Seriously. How many poos do hours so? He does about 20 or more a day and has awful nappy rash. A bit worried... Was sure it was the antibiotics but that should be all gone a week in. Unless it's left him lactase enzyme deficient for a bit so he is intolerant at the moment? His bottom is raw and weeping Sad

Any ideas?

londonlivvy · 22/04/2015 13:31

daholster we prob have 5-10 poos a day. for sore bum, metanium is the business. to fix baby's gut, I'd recommend baby probiotics.

smogsville · 22/04/2015 14:29

Yes like London says I think metanium meant to be v gd. Must get some in as back up. We use waitrose bottom butter for all changes, comm mw recommends sudocreme.

BrixtonBunny · 22/04/2015 14:34

We haven't been using anything for nappy changes Blush Should we be? I've got lots of bottom butter stashed away but she doesn't seem to need anything.

Daholster that sounds sore, poor DS. Might it also be that his nappies / wipes are irritating him? We're using Beaming Baby nappies which have fewer chemicals in than normal nappies, and water wipes. Might be worth a shot until his skin feels better? Thought the nappies might be a bit rubbish or leaky as they are "eco" nappies but they've been fab so far, very few leaks (and those were down to DP's nappy method until I showed him how to make them more secure) and they seem to keep DD nice and dry.

IvegotaCaveTroll · 22/04/2015 15:53

RL- m&s looked after my baby first night post EMCS- they no ur knackered and baby definitely better for it!

Daholster I may be wrong but lactose intolerant shouldn't make him intolerant to ur milk just cows.

My baby definitely poohs and sees diring most nappy changes- and before and after- MW said basically breast fed babies fart poo continuously.

My baby also sucks up milk through her nose- and I think I have a fast let down as she chokes at the start of all feedsShock

IvegotaCaveTroll · 22/04/2015 15:57

Had a good HV meeting today- I said I was still worried about breastfeeding on my tramadol and that really I wanted to speak to a consultant - my friends that iv asked are all registrars. The HV called a paediatrician for me to speak to there and then- who was lovely and advised me to carry on and that I needed primarily to take enough painkillers to function and look after baby (and I'm on so much less than pre- pregnancy.

I find it sad that so many people have had bad HV experience- though my husband knowing them and me being a doctor may help- they've all been great before they even knew those things.

brummagem · 22/04/2015 16:19

brixton I asked my MW at birth plan booking about that and she said if they don't need anything don't use it. It would be like you constantly applying antiseptic cream to your knees in case you fall over (which if you're as clumsy as me isn't a bad idea Grin).

FiRaffe · 22/04/2015 16:40

Glad you had a good hv visit Cavetroll.

DS is back up past birth weight today (day 12) but is being whiny.... going to be a long day!

kismac · 22/04/2015 16:57

Had my sweep today and it didn't hurt which surprised me. Im 2cm dictated, cervix is soft and bishop score of 6! Doctor thinks I should go on my own in next few days but if not induction is booked for 1st May (earliest date available, boo!) and she's pretty sure if I do need induced that I'll only need one tablet. Feeling a lot happier that all the on/off pain has actually been doing something.

smogsville · 22/04/2015 16:59

Brixton I reckon if she looks fine, she's fine. I used BB from start with DD as recommended by NCT teacher so am just doing the same with DS for the hell of it.

PenguinPoser · 22/04/2015 17:44

Sounds promising kismac fingers crossed that things happen soon, as you say it's reassuring that your discomfort has been achieving something.

Pleased your hv visit went well Cavetroll and you've been reassured about your meds!

Daholster sorry you had another rubbish night. Your ds bum sounds sore bless him. I don't have a cure - but I'm using the sucocrem care and protect for a little redness on dd and it seems good. Does it look like he's got fungal infection or anything? Maybe if it's not improving try some canesten or see GP to try something like some daktacort with mild steroid in?

RL pleased you managed a few hours sleep. Don't feel bad about the midwives taking ds for a bit :) you needexd to reccver from labour. Hope you're doing ok now.

I felt crappy this morning...just cos my clothes don't fit, hairs s state and can't go get it cut easily, never have time to put makeup on, just don't quite feel like myself. Forced myself to go to bf support group and pleased I did as had a chat to others and got dd weighed... So pleased she's gained 6oz this week and is just over 7lv now Grin so then we went to asda to celebrate bought her some Sunhats and sleep suits and I got a face mask and some nice shampoo and conditioner so just need time to pamper myself. We are going to a charity ball tomorrow evening so I want to look half decent Hmm

FiRaffe · 22/04/2015 18:41

Sounds good kismac - have my fingers crossed for you.

Penguin - well done for going out. I know what you mean about difficult with clothes fitting and feeling normal. My hair is somehow better than in pregnancy, but my clothes don't fit. I even bought some jeggings in town yesterday in the hope of something that is vaguely normal and might fit, but they aren't much better - too tight on my bump and mat jeans are too loose.

Lauren82000 · 22/04/2015 19:25

Can't believe my mums reaction when I told her Harriet's name! She said 'oh' then proceeded to say she won't be calling her that! DH heard her say it and I've had to spend the last hour convincing him to stop second guessing it. Angry I'm so angry with her for her careless comment she knows DH over thinks things. I'd fall out with her over it but it's just not worth it and she took my ironing and brought me a load of crib sheets and nappies. Hmm Luckily I think we have pulled him back from a spiral as he came downstairs and said I can imagine a Harriet running around at DD1's age and Hattie is cute. Babies grow into their names don't they.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/04/2015 19:48

Wow fab kismac!! Mine has always been unfavourable at all sweeps!!

I personally don't use anything unless needed BrixtonBunny, have had minded children who's parents insist on cream at every change and I've never understood it! I swear by sudorcem daholster, don't like metanium I find it greasy and not very affective but I know a lot of people swear by it. Sam poo's constantly and I was using the new sudocrem cream which is much lighter but yesterday I started using normal sudocrem and his bum is not red and spotty anymore.

Lauren82000 I have to say ds2 didn't grow into his! Dh chose it and although I liked the name I didn't feel it suited him. That's why I took so long to decide on Sam's name. I even thought of changing it by deed poll but dh said no. He loves his name now and after 4 years it is his name but he still so suits Oscar! If you love Harriet then call her Harriet, it's not up to your mum or anyone else, hope dh doesn't let your mum upset him.

Sorry you're feeling rubbish PenguinPoser, as usual I recommend a sling for hair cut! Mine have always slept so well in them so once asleep can pretty much leave them in and they snooze while warm in there. Perhaps you should buy something new clothes wise to feel a bit better.

I've always been ok with all the hv I've had IveGotaCaveTroll but I know so many who are upset by them. My friend had an interesting meeting with one when she was struggling with weaning who told her to give her daughter baked beans and poultry, when she said she has chicken the hv said yes but you need to give her poultry too. That was the last time she asked their advice!

kismac · 22/04/2015 20:16

Lauren, Harriet is a beautiful name. Don't let anyone make you think otherwise. It has so many cute nicknames too.

Fi and Penguin, sorry you are feeling a bit rubbish. I got clothes gift vouchers for my Christmas and birthday that Im planning on using to buy some nice bits for the time after birth to make me feel better about the body changes. Also, maybe see if you can get a local hairdresser to do a home visit?

smogsville · 22/04/2015 20:38

Second what the others say about Harriet - lovely lovely name.

Re feeling rubbish, I've had a good couple of days but have noticed am feeling slightly 'melancholy' in the evening - when I would expect to be quite jolly with DD in bed asleep and some time with DH and DS snoozing on one or other of our chests. Is it just the tiredness hitting at that time of day? I will mention to comm mw who is coming back on day 10 (next Tuesday) but just wondered if anyone had any thoughts really...

DS very snuffly tonight, hope he's not getting DD's cold at not quite a week old!

FizzyBubbly · 22/04/2015 20:58

Lauren I can't believe she said that! Especially so soon after you've given birth and your hormones are all over the place. FWIW Harriett is a lovely name! I got a surprised look from my MIL when we told her DD1s name, it's not that she didn't like it, but because it's the same as a brand of sanitary towels that were available in the 80's! Shock

Sounds promising Kismac! Hope your midwife is right and that things will start on their own accord soon.

Cinnamon, your health visitors poultry comment made me chuckle!

Sorry you're feeling rubbish Penguin. Agree that a home visit from a mobile hairdresser is a good idea. Clothes wise, it's an awkward in between stage I know but then with DD I was so ill after her birth I barely left the house for the first few months so it didn't really matter. I would go somewhere cheap like primark or H&M and get some new bits to tie you over until you feel confident enough to go on a proper shopping spree

Lauren82000 · 22/04/2015 21:01

Considering she slept for most of the day and I was getting a bit worried about her not waking up to feed. She is certainly making up for it this evening. I even managed to get her on the right boob for a bit. Had to slather myself in nipple cream though as her latch still needs a bit of work (although my nipple is the size of her face so no idea how she would get more of it in her mouth.) the first 30-45 seconds hurts but then it feels ok so I'm hoping it'll be minor adjustments and needing to toughen them up a bit. I asked the mw to put me on the star buddies radar so they should be getting in touch soon enough and we will get sorted. I do have a bit of a blister on the end of my left nipple when she comes off the boob. It goes down not long after so hopefully it'll just crust a bit and be fine.

PenguinPoser · 22/04/2015 21:09

Lauren echoing what the others have said I can't believe your DM said that! It's honestly a beautiful name and plus it's your decision no one else's. Keep going with the Lansinoh - sounds like the feeding is going well considering she was only born yesterday.

I wish I'd thought of the mobile hairdresser idea before - could have arranged something for tomorrow before going out to this ball! My hair is what I describe as having special needs - it's super curly and quite unruly at times and I spend my life trying to control it and reduce the frizz! Ah well at least I've bought my nice shampoo and conditioner. Hopefully will get a haircut soon.

I have bought some new feeding tops and have 2 pairs of jeans and some jeggings that fit, but I just feel a bit frumpy if you know what I mean! My figure isn't too bad it's just a bit of a jelly belly at the moment but to be fair I have had a baby and am generally eating rubbish at the moment. Will have to get out for some more walks, and get some leggings and lighter things to wear for the nicer weather. I was boiling today in my jeans!

Right dd is asleep finally after mammoth feeding/sucking session resulting in me feeling like my nipples might fall off. Going to try and nap!

TinyTear · 22/04/2015 21:21

I use sudocrem on regular changes and metanium when it's really red/sore

Lauren82000 · 22/04/2015 21:31

Yes feeding is going much better think she was just super tired today so that's why she slept so long.

Wineandchoccy · 22/04/2015 21:34

God I am so tired today and apart from go for a walk I have not done anything. It's been lovely having no visitors today and I don't think we are expecting anybody tomorrow either. We are going to change some presents tomorrow as we have duplicate outfits and some that I want to swap for a larger size as we have been bought a hoodie from gap in newborn Confused and I don't think that would be very comfy for her.

Dd has been cluster feeding since 7.30pm and we are now having skin to skin in bed to see if she will settle.

Harriet is a lovely name Lauren
