Felt we might need a new thread to get through the night feeds and labours!

Considering I have birth with no pain relief I'm a right wimp over the after pains. Confused Can't stand achy lingering pains. I'd rather have intense short ones.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/04/2015 06:42

Ah congratulations BananaToast! That was quick for your first and lovely you managed with only TENS, I loved mine with ds2.

Ds2 was super mucusy too Lauren82000, he only woke up his first night because he' coughed some up then went back to sleep! Could also explain her not feeding if she's filled with mucus!

Sorry you're struggling daholster! Dd might surprise you and not wake, I was always amazed what my two slept through/do sleep through! If dh's snoring is such a problem perhaps you could take it in turns to sleep on the sofa or perhaps make you some kind if bed downstairs so you're more comfy? Dh snores like mad but I have to say once I've fed Sam and am back in bed I'm asleep! Very tired after two weeks of not enough sleep Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 22/04/2015 06:46

Enjoy your day FizzyBubbly!

I'm not sure I could compare but a lot of people say the after pains are worse with second babies.

Quite excited about registering Sam today, just need to find out where we're going as the offices have moved since we had ds2!

kismac · 22/04/2015 06:48

Wow! Congratulations Banana!

Hope you enjoy your day Maki and Fizzy.

Hope your appointment goes well Mel.

Hopefully getting a sweep today. Get this damn baby out. I can't deal with the stop/start anymore.

TinyTear · 22/04/2015 07:16

Congratulations on all new babies.

Yesterday I survived my first solo day and first... Solo bedtime with two!!
Although have told DH I'd rather not do the solo bedtime too often...

cowbiscuits · 22/04/2015 07:22

Congratulations Banana, another fast one!

Lauren, Harriet is a beautiful name.

Hello Mel0Drama, glad to hear from another person still waiting! I'm due Friday but not expected anything soon.

Hope everyone is recovering OK and those babies are settling in nicely.

smogsville · 22/04/2015 07:24

Well done Tiny, can you explain how solo bath time with two works? Need tips for next week.

After pains were terrible this time, took my breath away. I don't remember them first time around.

Woke up starving and headachey need to start keeping bananas on bedside table to keep up with night feeds. Thank goodness for break in bed.

Underwood2013 · 22/04/2015 08:14

Congrats banana!! Grin

FiRaffe · 22/04/2015 08:16

Good work Tiny, I can't even think of how i'd cope with 2!

Good luck Mel, hope all goes well with the appointment.

Have fun registering today cinnamon. It's a lovely feeling!

RL20 · 22/04/2015 08:46

Congratulations everyone who's had babies since I had my little one yesterday morning! Busy few days for babies! Grin

Wow Lauren that sounds scary! Sounds like you coped well though!

Banana yours sounds like it was a close call too! Shock
Glad to hear that you thought it was less gruesome than you'd imagined!

Had a bit of a meltdown last night after OH had to leave at around 10pm.
I couldn't settle baby even though he had had a feed and I had changed him, even sat with him and cuddled him for a bit but as soon as I put him down into the crib he would start crying again. Just felt so overwhelmed and didn't know what to do, I ended up crying to a midwife who offered to look after him for a few hours, which they do during the night around their desk, it's like a little nursery with the babies in their cribs. I was really reluctant but had had around 5 hours sleep since waters broke on Saturday night. So after the midwife have me a hug I let them look after him and walked away sobbing Sad it was horrible but he was well looked after. It took me about 10/15 minutes to fall sleep and I woke up 6 hours later haven't not woken up all through the night. I needed it, but don't think I could face leaving him again! I got up as soon as I could and they were just bringing him back down to me. This was around 6.15am ish and he hasn't woken yet but is due a feed around 9am. The midwives have 'swaddled him' with the blankets and he seems much cosier and content so will have to try that when I put him back down.

I can't remember who I read was talking about the mucus but my little one (still no name!) has it and the midwives have said that to bring it up they need to be fed more so it collects and is easier to bring up. This morning she's told me it has nearly cleared so hopefully she's right.
I'm bottle feeding so obviously no idea how it would work with breastfeeding but I have to try and give him at least 30ml if he will take it, every 3-4 hours.

Still haven't managed to have a shower, have been regularly changing clothes and pad etc but I don't want to leave him while I go for a shower so going to wait for OH to get here first.
When I woke up this morning I couldn't move my body, the aching was agony. Feel like I have had every part of my body poked and prodded (or stitched!) so have had some pain relief.

Hope everyone and babies are doing ok and to those that are left, you haven't got long left now!

brummagem · 22/04/2015 08:49

Good luck mel I'm not too sure on other posters but cow and I will keep you company as the last few of the antenatal club.

Congratulations banana Flowers I'd like to tick the labour box that you managed to find please! Anyone know where it is in the green book?

Sorted cot out yesterday put new mattress into cot and put on sheet and cellular blanket ready also added the cot bumper while he can't wriggle as his cot is right by the living room door so it might offer a bit more shelter. Last night the cats decided I'd made it up for them so they spent the night bouncing in and out and fighting each other for the best spots. Have put a towel in now and will put my gym ball on the top to discourage them. Don't imagine they'll be interested once there's a baby in it screaming at them Grin

Lauren Harriet Rose sounds beautiful.

Hope everyone else postnatal is ok!

Wineandchoccy · 22/04/2015 08:57

Congratulations banana

We have had quite a good night, she wouldn't settle for about an hour but because I had caught up on some sleep in the afternoon it was ok.

We don't have any midwife or visitors planned for today, hooray Grin

ChickenMe · 22/04/2015 09:16

Congratulations Banana

RL you poor old thing, I remember all of that tired/hormonal stuff so well and to believe I had forgotten it all until I read your post. I cried so much it was even in my notes Blush
Glad the midwives could help. They love babies so it's not exactly a bad job.
Is your OH not allowed to stay? Hospitals are inconsistent. Ours allowed it although provided no bed. I sent OH home but more than once I was crying down the phone to him.

Lauren82000 · 22/04/2015 09:20

What a night RL. Glad you got some sleep I'm sure you feel much better.

I haven't had a shower either feel like I should have one but I'm so tired so trying to sleep while the baby sleeps. Oh and it was me with the mucus. I'm trying hard to get her to feed as much as I can but she is being stubborn. Little minx.

TinyTear · 22/04/2015 09:31

Ah smogs, I don't do daily baths, DD1 has itchy skin so bath every 2 or 3 days only...
But I would have put the changing mat on the bathroom floor for DD2 while bathing DD1 if it had been bath day...

My eldest is 3y2m so just needs help mostly with hair and can scrub the body if I tell her to do the bottom and arms and so on...

The tough bit was reading the story while trying to keep a latched baby or burping her...

BrixtonBunny · 22/04/2015 10:06

Banana congratulations!! Sounds like another amazing experience! Hope you get to go home soon today with baby Oliver (lovely name by the way).

Lauren that's a gorgeous name. I really like it.

RL I'm so sorry they sent your DP home, when I was in hospital partners were allowed to stay the night (on horrid reclining chairs though). At least your DP will be rested today so will be able to help support you. A word about swaddling - my midwives have said it's fine during the day when you're watching them, but not to swaddle babies at night as they can overheat and it stops them cooling themselves, so it can be dangerous. You might want to look into it anyway as I'm not an expert!

DD had a relatively good night yesterday again, I was petrified she wouldn't as she slept most of yesterday. Midwife today then MIL this evening - we have no visitors tomorrow though which will be blissful!

Lauren82000 · 22/04/2015 10:35

Thanks for the name boost. Can't stand her not having a name I just called her by DD1s name when I was changing her nappyBlush oops.

FiRaffe · 22/04/2015 11:01

Hehe Lauren, I kept calling DS all sorts of odd things when he was first born.

Glad you got some sleep RL and your little one won't remember!

ChickenMe · 22/04/2015 11:09

Harriet is a pretty name Lauren. I keep calling my baby by the cat's name. Confused
They had some weird sleep practises in the hospital, putting hats and cardis on my DD (admittedly the ward was freezing at night), placing her on her side and swaddling her. We only swaddle her when she's supervised too-that's what we were told.
I can't wait till DD can wear a grobag because I am never sure if her bedding is right. You panic about it being too hot so I'd rather it was a bit cold than hot iyswim

cinnamongreyhound · 22/04/2015 11:19

I left my mattress in its bag brummagem to keep the cats out, as it wasn't very nice to sit on! They have however taken to his bouncy chair when he's not in it. Hoping that a few more pokes from underneath will make it less attractive!

They don't call it labour for nothing RL20, you've worked hard to get your boy here so not surprising your body aches! Washing my hair on day two was almost impossible as my arms ached so much from pullin on my thighs while pushing!

Yep me too Lauren82000 with ds2's name, I was getting annoyed at dh's lack of desire to choose a name!! Not to mention EVERYBODY asking!

Mine wasn't allowed to stay on antenatal or postnatal wards ChickenMe only in delivery room.

FiRaffe · 22/04/2015 11:20

It's so difficult to tell. The gro egg in our room is usually around 20 (a bit below or a bit above), but it feels freezing to me. We put DS to bed in a vest, sleepsuit and a cellular blanket and sometimes he is hot and sometimes cold! Argh... The stress

cinnamongreyhound · 22/04/2015 11:35

I'm the same chickenMe! Ds2 was 9lb 2 born and ds1 9lb by day 3 so they went straight into grobags, so much easier!

Sam wakes easily if he's not warm enough FiRaffe but has the same as your ds for bedtime too, has always kicked off the blanket by the time I've got to him when he's woken for a feed.

BrixtonBunny · 22/04/2015 11:44

I've been putting DD to bed in a babygro and cellular blanket and she seems ok in that, though she sometimes kicks get blanket off. We'll use grobags when she's big enough for them though I think!
