Felt we might need a new thread to get through the night feeds and labours!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Lauren82000 · 21/04/2015 21:18

That's what I did Cowbiscuits spent yesterday just me and DD was lovely and it all kicked off

Underwood2013 · 21/04/2015 21:29

Yes Firaffe - what cinnamon said plus mine weighed dd and also did the hearing test as they weren't able to do it in hospital. Got lots of fliers & brochures, mostly around breastfeeding and community support. Oh and she gave me dd's red book. I tried to get some feedback on dd's sleeping but she really only listened and then said what is recommended practise (ie not co-sleeping) but didn't really offer any suggestions to help get us to dd sleeping / settling in her Moses basket. Not v helpful really.

Cinnamon - sounds a right pain to be caught in the middle! Thankfully my mw today wasn't bothered and was almost glad the hv had done a weigh-in as then she didn't have to bother...

cinnamongreyhound · 21/04/2015 22:26

Ah yes, didn't weigh him as mw had a few hours before.

Third night in a row he's been totally settled downstairs, brought him up and within 10mins of me being in bed he's away and wanting milk. Suppose I should be glad it probably means I get longer to sleep but I just want to be asleep now!!!

RL20 · 21/04/2015 22:26

Thanks everyone.
Congratulations Lauren and Hiding!
Feeling very emotional and just had a little cry because OH has been sent home now Sad I really didn't want him to go. Don't understand why they have to send partners home Sad. Hopefully home tomorrow though, just felt like I wanted to stay in today to establish feeding properly and well everything baby related. Also my blood pressure and pulse readings are high, was meant to have an ECG a few hours ago m but that hasn't happened

Lauren82000 · 21/04/2015 22:27

Erm I can't remember how long newborns have in reserve before they need proper feeding? DD2 hasn't had much and she had a big long sleep before and although she is awake now she isn't interested in boob. I half remember DD1 was very similar in the beginning where she wasn't very interested either but I was in hospital for a week and had loads of feeding help. Feel a bit at sea Sad

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 21/04/2015 22:33

Lauren my DD went 11hours after her initial feed before she was interested in another and then it was forced on her because I wanted to go home! midwife said this was normal!!

cinnamongreyhound · 21/04/2015 22:40

My big two didn't feed the first night at all Lauren82000, ds1 born 11.20am fed straight after birth and not again until 8 the next morning.

Lauren82000 · 21/04/2015 22:51

Well she only had an initial nibble not even a minutes worth. Then she had another go an hour later for similar amount of time. Not even sure I'm producing anything, I only get clear out of my boobs. Can't remember if that is normal?

Starting to feel tired now but she sleeps so quietly I don't want to put her down as I can't hear her breathing. Confused God was I this neurotic with DD1? I don't think I was.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/04/2015 22:53

Put her down if you can and get some sleep Flowers

daholster · 21/04/2015 23:48

The clear stuff is fine Lauren, dd didn't feed for 36hrs though she was force fed half a teaspoon of exprwasws colostrum at 24hrs... A minute may have been long enough to get the tunt volume of the good stuff she needs. But if not she has reserves for at least a day so plenty of time. It must feel quite unsupported at home when you are used to hospital style input. Try to put her down. You probably were just as neurotic with dd1 but had people to ask nearby.

Upstairs in bed for the first night in a week. V stressful. Ds in crib grunting and groaning, dh snoring, me trying to preempt ds starting crying and waking dd, dh waking ds, I just want to sleep but wake at every grunt Sad good grief!!! How will this work?!

FizzyBubbly · 22/04/2015 00:31

Daholster, if it's going to affect your sleep would it be worth moving back to the sofa for the night and trying again tomorrow? You getting enough rest is more important than where you're resting

So after my failed sweep request yesterday I've done as the midwife suggested and roped DH into DTD. Woken an hour ago by DD crying and haven't been able to get back to sleep due to very strong period pains and a constant lower back ache. Some mild contractions but they are very much masked by the back ache.

Not sure if this is the real deal or not as we haven't DTD for months now as (think I posted on here about it) last time DH came inside me I had really bad pains in my whole pelvic area for a good few hours

Have taken some paracetamol in the hope that I can get back to sleep in a bit. Kind of hoping its a false alarm now as DD will be going to MILs for the whole day in the morning and I was planning on doing nothing except enjoy what's supposed to be the last warm and sunny day in my neck of the woods!

Lauren82000 · 22/04/2015 00:41

We are now in bed although DH is on the ipad, poor DD1 is coughing and whining in her sleep in the next room and we are finally having some decent boob time. Smile Definitely need to work on my right boob she much prefers the left. Just when I think she's had enough and doesn't want more she goes and makes sucky lips when I put her down Confused

Lauren82000 · 22/04/2015 00:46

Forgot how much after pains hurt when babies suckle. Confused

Huge bubble poo while I was changing her. No wonder she was whimpering. Going to try and put her down again now. Fingers crossed it was just that bit of wind that had her unsettled.

FiRaffe · 22/04/2015 03:12

Hope you're getting some rest Lauren and daholster.

FiRaffe · 22/04/2015 03:14

Thanks ladies. Will see midwife today hopefully and then hv on Friday so we'll see what happens.

Hope you're getting some rest Lauren and daholster

Lauren82000 · 22/04/2015 05:01

Not really Fi, I have a super mucusy baby every hour or so she has woken struggling with a chunky bit. Just lying on my shoulder after the last bit which was old blood brown Confused poor sausage must have loads of rubbish floating around inside.

Think we might be closer to a name too. Leaning towards Harriet (which was my choice.) it's DH's grandma's middle name so it has some meaning and I've definitely decided that we are having Rose for a middle name. Which is a little nod to DH. (Closest I can get to the girl version of Ross) Smile I think he deserves a mention in there after his performance.

PenguinPoser · 22/04/2015 05:04

Ahh so tired tonight. No naps yesterday it seemed like a day long cluster feed. Then having gotten to sleep at 11.30 dd was up 12.30! Although she has just slept 1.30-4.30 which was good. Hope she goes down again for a couple of hours. Yawn.

Hope everyone else is asleep. Maki - I'd be so annoyed about the food order I find the online orders take an age to do. Sounds like you've got a fun but busy day coming up swith your da.

Fizzy hope you're ok and that either the pain settled down or you're on the way to having baby!

Daholster it does sound stressful for you being in bed I hope you're u have had some rest.

Lauren I think Harriet Rose would be a beautiful name!

Well it was definitely labour! Proper contractions started around 7.30pm around 1-2 mins apart lasting 1 min each time. Arrived at hospital around 11pm fully dilated and baby Oliver was born at 12.06am.

Used a TENS machine which I'm not sure did anything much but was too scared to take off in case it was working - didn't think to take paracetamol and too late for gas and air by the time he arrived. Had some local anaesthetic for an episiotomy as his heart rate was decelerating during contractions but otherwise managed on TENS.

It was much less gruesome than I had imagined and I feel far better afterwards than expected. Sore from the stitches but otherwise pretty good.

Can't believe it was all so quick and that he's actually here! On postnatal ward now not getting any sleep - want to get home ASAP so hoping for a quick discharge. I can't stop staring at him Grin

Lauren82000 · 22/04/2015 05:41

Congrats Banana! I know what you mean about the staring, I really should have slept yesterday evening but still sort of going on adrenaline. Had a couple of cat naps but not enough for good rest. Will wait for DH to wake up a bit and then hand her over and get some decent kip in.

FiRaffe · 22/04/2015 05:54

Congratulations Banana!

Lauren - Harriet Rose was our girls name. It's lovely but then I am biased!!! Thomas was really mucusy which scared the hell out of me.... thankfully he'd cleared it in 24hrs, but didn't make me feel better!

Congratulations Banana!

Last nights pains were obviously yet another false alarm so it looks like I will get my toddler free day in the sunshine Grin
