Felt we might need a new thread to get through the night feeds and labours!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FiRaffe · 05/05/2015 11:55

Hopefully the hv will be nice RL. mine is nice enough if a bit wet!

It is scary going to groups, especially existing ones but everyone will have been in that situation once and as Penguin said you have a ready made conversation topic!

brummagem · 05/05/2015 12:40

Did anyone else have a nasty tear? How long did it take you to start feeling more normal? I feel like I've been riding a horse for 838384822 days without a break I'd try exercising my pelvic floor but it seems to have disappeared it feels like everything is literally hanging out. Sorry for TMI but feeling a bit meh especially as due to go home today it's like having the stabilisers removed from your first proper bike. How the hell did Kate manage to move so well so quickly let alone in bloody heels not once but twice? Sad

Glad everyone else is moving forward and RL I'll join you in the matchsticks!

cinnamongreyhound · 05/05/2015 13:06

I was impressed by the heels too Brummagem! I was mostly sore with ds1 as I had labial tears but with ds2 I was totally shocked at the weakness of my abs! This time I expected it and so the slow wobbly walk wasn't a surprise. Do try and do pelvic floor exercises as it helps blood flow even if it for a feel like it's doing much it will all help. In two weeks you will feel much more like your normal self physically I found.

I agree with groups, it's very intimidating but if you all have similar age babies you have a lot in common and it's too soon for most people to have made too strong friendships. You will soon find those who parent similarly to you and those who are too different to get along with ime.

daholster · 05/05/2015 13:42

Yes RL groups are scary but everyone there felt the same first time. Only once have I met anyone I'd rather not again and the hundreds of others I have met by this point (I have a toddler of course) have been great and some I now call friends. Its well worth those intimidating first steps and gives you somewhere you want to be and belong to and get out of the house to.

Poor you gem tears suck. Mine wasn't severe just poorly placed at the back so uncomfy. A week down the line you will start feeling more normal I'm sure. Flowers

Snotty baby and coughing mummy here. He is so snotty bless him. If he's upright for his reflux he can't breathe, if I lie him flat the snot goes back (sorry)/so he swallows and breathes better but then intermittently chokes himself with the reflux Hmm Snotty nappies are gross.

Still has managing to eat today and getting plenty of wet and dirty nappies so I think he's OK. Was worried yesterday because he felt cold and was shivering then had a hot head but it all went away quickly and he's been OK since. Go who saw awful nappy rash a couple of weeks ago said at this age babies with a temperature should be taken straight to A&E. I used mummy instincts though and resisted the temptation to get the thermometer out, I knew deep down he was OK just needed a close eye.

FiRaffe · 05/05/2015 14:35

Hope you both feel better soon daholster!

I had a second degree tear and it is still uncomfortable occasionally (busy days mainly) 3 weeks on. Hope you feel better gem

Lauren82000 · 05/05/2015 14:44

Brum it took me nearly 2 weeks to actually feel like pelvic floor exercises were doing anything it felt so weak. I could barely do them. (No accidents though so it must have still be working) now it's like it never happened my 'grip' is just as strong as it was. I have noticed though that when I need to poo I have to move pretty sharpish as my bum doesn't feel as strong as it did Blush I remember the same thing happened after DD1 and it took longer for that to get its strength back, but it did come back!

RL20 · 05/05/2015 15:36

Health Visitor visit went well. DS is in the 50th centile (I actually know what that means now!) and has put on a nice bit of weight so far since birth. He's 2 weeks old today so I'm pleased.
Although when asking about the fidgeting in Moses basket etc, she just said that it's normal and is happy with his feeding which is little and often, probably every hour and a half/2 hours including through the night! But like she said, it does get better and they do grow, they aren't newborns forever! I sort of forget that he is only 2 weeks old. He just wants cuddles and attention and doesn't like being in Moses basket for too long at a time!
She also said to help prevent tummy ache and things, to keep him upright (well, on a slant) for around 20 minutes after each feed instead of winding him and putting him straight down in his Moses basket. That's going to be fun at 3am!

Brummagem RE pelvic floor I was told to do the exercises to help the healing of my stitches. I had an episiotomy and 2nd degree tear plus tore a muscle. One of the midwives who came to check my stitches asked if I'd like her to see if I'm doing them correctly cringe ! Blush. (as I hasn't been doing them because I didn't know that it would help towards the healing). Anyway she confirmed that I was, but didn't have to tense my bum cheeks so much! Grin.
Day 14 today and still feel a bit of pressure down there when I've been walking for a while, but not as sore when I go for a wee now.
I agree about Kate, seriously?! I was in the hospital for 2 full days after DS was born and still couldn't walk or sit properly when I came out.

Thanks all RE groups. She is giving me more info on the groups when she visits again in a couple of weeks. Might feel a bit more confident by then anyway.

brummagem · 05/05/2015 17:16

Pelvic floor I'm now trying to do mine whenever I feed Ted. He's just fallen asleep having been feeding on and off since 3pm! Just call me Daisy the cow.

Had a nice chat with midwife and feel a bit better now. So worried about under feeding him as he's a bugger to wake.

Can't believe we're going home and this is it! Eek!

Hidingthefear · 05/05/2015 19:34

didn't get chance to get back on laptop after i posted.
Friday was day 10 and turns out she was a midwife, baby is almost back to birth weight (8lbs7 now and was born 8lbs8) then she said i'd get a text today with an appointment for clinic, but no message so far. Then today i've had the health visitor (who, it turns out, went to school with my Dad). She seemed nice and said she's see me on June 15th next.

Ah cinnamon that's what Let down is. It's a pain in the bum!

Wow smogs rolling over already!!
I'm clueless on baby milestones but that seems early... maybe you have a little einstien there ;)

Congrats maki love the name, it's cool to have an option of which nickname suits best.

Hidingthefear · 05/05/2015 19:54

rl glad you had a good HV visit. My DH says he thinks that me and you are some kind of kindred spirit. Both of us have baby boys and we called them Max, both born on 21st (you'r DS was born as my labour started), and when I said that your son was also feeding every 1.5-2 hours he thought I was making it up coz our little man is doing the same! (just checked my red book and he's also near the 50th centile, just above it at the mo from what i can tell)

My pelvic floor is totally shot, good to hear that it should come back with practise Lauren I'll have to try and remember everytime i'm feeding ds or something.
Laxatives have run out now and I went to loo this morning and it was agony. I feel like it's tore something and this afternoon I can't even sit. wondering if I should go to doctor, or do i contact midwife? sorry if TMI, but my bum was throbbing, felt like it was pulsing and actually made me cry. I've defo got an anal fischer again (which i've had before) and now i'm petrified of needing the loo again :(

RL20 · 05/05/2015 21:04

Wow hiding how strange! The health visitor today wasn't concerned about feeding little and often (I say little, it's usually about 2oz which is 60ml!). She also wasn't concerned about how fidgitey he is in the Moses basket at this age. She said it's normal and that it will get easier! fingers crossed .
Are you on the Facebook group? I am on there now but just 'liking' and 'commenting' and haven't posted yet. Would love to see my little Max's twin! Grin.
When we post on the group, can my Facebook friends see that I have posted on the group? Does anyone know?

PenguinPoser · 05/05/2015 21:21

No RL it's a secret group so nothing appears on your timeline or anything the only people that can see things are the people in the group.

FiRaffe · 05/05/2015 21:24

It's a secret group RL so they shouldn't be able to see anything in the group.

Cluster feed city today....hope he's tanked up and we have a good night as i'm shattered. First day I haven't had an afternoon nap in a week and definitely feeling it. Off for a weigh in tomorrow morning so I hope so!

RL20 · 05/05/2015 23:21

Oh I see, thanks!
So I came up with the genius idea that once DS had settled down and was sleeping, we'd go straight to sleep no matter what the time was - instead of staying up until whatever time watching tv whilst DS slept - seemed silly really. So about 9.30pm seemed like a good time as he'd had a feed, a change and was fast asleep on OH's chest. I changed the sheet in his Moses basket and put a new blanket in there, and even put a hot water bottle on there until we put him in. So we carried everything including DS into the bedroom, put him in his Moses basket, got into bed, and as soon as I shut my eyes he started grizzling away Confused. And has been awake since. One feed later plus a nappy change that led to sleepsuit change because he weed as soon as I took his nappy off, and he's now asleep on me and I daren't put him in his Moses basket Confused I need sleeeeeepppppppp Sad

Lauren82000 · 05/05/2015 23:51

Did you give him a good wind before putting him down? Don't forget he needs to be upright for at least 20 mins before you attempt the basket.

I'm just on second boob so I'll be up for a while yet. Plus think she has just done a small wet fart. That's going to need changing Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 06/05/2015 01:17

I went out for an hour this evening. Gave Sam a quick top up feed before I went at 6.30 and when I got back at 7.30 dh said he was a bit grizzly but was asleep by 7. He seemed to stir at 9.30 so I changed his nappy and gave him his medicine but he didn't wake enough to feed so we put him to bed, he's just up now Shock boobs are huge and Ive only had 3hrs sleep out of the 7 he's had but I'm amazed! Now to do it again starting from 10 Wink

All I would say RL20 is keep trying. He will get used to the basket or perhaps try somewhere else? Someone found the pram worked best or maybe he'd be happier with more space so actually in a cot? You will find something that works, it won't be forever!

Lauren82000 · 06/05/2015 02:19

Appear to be having an every hour night. So getting DH up for winding and settling after this feed. Although I find he puts her down too soon.

kismac · 06/05/2015 03:24

Hi everyone. Day 6 here and we had firstmassive cluster feed last night where I thought I might die . Feeling so much more prepared and positive today though. We had our first pukey burp toddy which made me so happy as it means I have milk coming in. Having some bother with venous engagement so have had to pump right side and put damp cloths on boobs. Managed to get 1/2 oz out so feeling very chuffed.

Midwife came out today and seemed happy. Gave few tips on feeding as I was getting bit caught up on feeding every 2-3 hours but we are now demand feeding and relying on cues, so we all seem happier but a bit more tired. She's currently snoozing on my chest and has been for nearly an hour after 2 failed attempts to put her down.

Glad the health visitor check went well RL .

Hope the cold settles soon Daholster.

Good luck for the weigh in Fi.

ChickenMe · 06/05/2015 03:35

I think I have an anal fissure Hiding. It is awful. Constipated as well but in the first few weeks I had the "gotta go right now" thing. Now I'm terrified to go. It bleeds, does yours?

FiRaffe · 06/05/2015 04:07

Good sleeping Sam - hope his timing will shift cinnamon!

Hope you're getting some sleep RL!

Good news on the milk kismac. You'll find your stride with demand feeding and hopefully it'll all settle down.

Lauren I have the same problem with DH and winding. He is also rubbish about keeping him upright rather than just rubbing his back.

I think I might have an anal fissure too. Occasional bleeding when I have a big poo....sorry tmi! Will mention to the doc when I next see them

daholster · 06/05/2015 04:08

Up. Why is D's wide awake? Been up for 1.5 hrs so far with his little bright eyes...

Also he sounds like he has a sore throat, when he cries his intake of breath sounds like a honking seal Confused Seems OK otherwise though... Trying not to worry about when I do finally get to put him down to actually sleep...

Lauren82000 · 06/05/2015 04:12

Have the ladies with fissures tried sticking some sudacreme on it? I put some on the last one u got while pregnant. Fixed it right up

daholster · 06/05/2015 04:37

2 hrs awake... But we have progress! Kept topping him up and when a bit sleepy put him on my pillow to snooze. Nipped to the loo etc. Have now put him in the crib lying on the same pillowcase then wralles him in a blanket. His throat sounds so dodgy but when breathing normally it's fine - its just he's doing the throat closing off thing and making himself cough and cry thing loads when eating and occasionally if he lies wrong. Must be very irritated throat. Seems OK in between just snotty and can sleep fairly peacefully. Must not panic...! He's fine in himself. Babies can be so stressful!

Sorry to all others having a difficult night.

I don't have a light on at all daholster, have night light which is enough for feeds and then use the torch on my phone which I lay on the arm of my nursing chair for changes, hopefully disturbs less but not sure if it makes a difference.
