Felt we might need a new thread to get through the night feeds and labours!

Hang on in there Cowbiscuits, are you resting or keeping active at the mo? Maybe try and do the opposite for a bit to see if that regulates them?

Happy birthday to your DCs Daholster and Cinnamon! Hope they have a lovely day!

It's DDs 2nd birthday a week today so the chance of a clash in birthdays is getting scary

Sweep pains eased off yesterday evening and were replaced with my usual evening tightenings every 10mins which I still had during my middle of the night wees but as usual they've stopped again. Very disheartened and a bit teary this morning as I went into labour at 40+4 with DD and that's what I am today.... Lost my mucous plug about an hour ago tho so that's cheered me up a bit, but I guess along with all my symptom spotting, it doesn't mean anything!

Hope everyone has a nice Monday

brummagem · 27/04/2015 08:49

Happy Birthday to all the big (ger) Brothers abd sisters there seems a few about Cake

Good luck kis, cow and fizzy! Flowers

Still nothing happening here. Evenings are the painful bowling ball in pelvis tightness and aches but it's all gone by the morning. Thought was contractions building this morning got all excited but when rolling out of bed I did a fart a cow would have been proud of & it all settled. Defo think he thinks I'm a blue whale or something and will arrive April 2016. So much for the gut instinct saying he'd be early Hmm although if he gets a shift on today I'm only 39+6 so technically he'd be early Grin

Lauren82000 · 27/04/2015 09:22

Hope things are still moving Cowbiscuits.

Brum I was like that saying she'd never come and then she popped out rather sharpish. Never say neverWink

DD2 finally settled at around 5 and I got two 2 hour stints of uninterrupted sleep. Was amazing! Really should be sneaking some more in as she is currently snoozing on my chest after a quick 3 min suckle.

kismac · 27/04/2015 09:54

Happy birthday to your bigger kids, Daholster and Cinnamon. Hope they have a lovely day.

Sending you lots of good womb vibes Cowbiscuit. I hope things get going for you.

Aww, Maki I am in awe of your patience. I hope sweep gets things going for you.

Im sorry Brum but your big fart made me laugh. He he.

Woken up and I have big wet patch on my thighs but don't remember anything happening in the night. Think Im just uber sweaty. Gross.

RL20 · 27/04/2015 10:24

Hello everyone
Feel like I haven't posted for a while.
DS isn't sleeping at night at all Sad. Still isn't settling in his Moses basket (but does better in the day). Feeds constantly and won't take a dummy either to settle. We went to bed around 11pm and he had been asleep in Moses basket for about 20 minutes. After 5 minutes of being in bed he started fidgeting and that was it until 4.30am Sad. Then OH was getting up for work so made him a bottle and fed him and in the end when OH went I just put DS in the middle of the bed propped up slightly and he went to sleep so I managed to get 3 hours. I'm not a fan of co-sleeping at all so I hate that it's the only place he will settle at night Sad.

In better news, the midwife says that his jaundice is looking better, and his cord has now came off and the infection he had around that area is a lot better.

Haven't caught up properly sorry - so tired

kismac · 27/04/2015 11:24

RL, try and not stress about co-sleeping as long as you are doing it safety then it's fine. It's more important that you get enough rest. If your OH is back at work then can you ask your mum to come round and watch the baby so you can get a rest. You are doing so well. Keep going, it will get easier.

ChickenMe · 27/04/2015 12:33

Dd slept better in the day at first RL. I recall getting half an hours sleep a night the first four days or so. The minute they sleep, forget everything else and just sleep. Remember in the womb, what was he like? I don't know about you but Dd was always active at night. Apparently it takes a while for them to learn the difference between night and day.

Lauren82000 · 27/04/2015 14:20

Does fresh air make them sleep longer? It's been 3 & 1/2 hours now. She woke up a bit when I did her bum and I tried her on the boob but she only gave me a 40second nibble, I wasn't sat particularly comfy so I'm wondering if that didn't help and we have been out since 11am. She is making her little noises and moving about a bit so not in a really deep sleep. Can't wait to get home though and try waking her up again. Confused

cinnamongreyhound · 27/04/2015 14:37

I don't know about fresh air but being out and about or on the move certainly makes Sam sleep better Lauren82000. He's been very good so far today though.

Try not to worry RL20, it's very early days. Sam is already better at night than he was and he's only 17 days old. He does at least one 3hr stint and another 2hr one mostly now and last night was much longer. Try to nap during the day if you can, is your dp not having any paternity leave?

Sorry to hear those still pregnant are having false starts Flowers

Lauren82000 · 27/04/2015 14:42

Home now and a quick bum change and eye bathe did the trick. Bit of a milk explosion though. My poor boobs.

IvegotaCaveTroll · 27/04/2015 15:30

Happy birthday to a Greyhound puppy and mini Daholster!

Unfortunately my little Cave Troll commend big style after both night feeds- never seen so much fluid out of one so small! I changed my soaked top but continued yo pseudo-sleep (I no longer do real sleep) on sodden bed with said small Cave Troll propped on my chest....

Seriously shattered

IvegotaCaveTroll · 27/04/2015 15:31

Vommed not commend

cowbiscuits · 27/04/2015 16:25

Arrived at hospital waiting to be seen. Seems like ages. Hurty Hurty ow

PenguinPoser · 27/04/2015 16:43

Fingers crossed this is it cowbiscuits!

Quick question - anyone with a close caboo or similar soft sling, how the heck do you get baby in it by yourself?? DD loved her sling last week but my friend put her in it once sling was on me. Doesn't seem safe to do it alone!!! Help!

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 27/04/2015 17:13

Don't know what a close caboo is PenguinPoser, could get dh to film me putting Sam in my stretch wrap and post on fb If that would help?

Good luck cowbiscuits!!!!!!!

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 27/04/2015 17:17

Exciting, good luck cowbiscuits!!

We bought a babasling last week but not tried it yet. A job for our first 'free' day since DD was born which is tomorrow (day 12). No visitors or appointments. I'm very excited!!!

FizzyBubbly · 27/04/2015 17:25

Hope you get seen soon Cowbiscuits!

Good question Penguin, no advice but will take note of any suggestions as that's what I've got ready and waiting for DD2. Didn't use a sling or carrier with DD1 and I'm usually hopeless at these things!

RL20 · 27/04/2015 17:52

Good luck cowbiscuits Thanks

Thanks for comments on sleeping. DS has had a lovely day of sleep today, so I already know what's coming again tonight! He sleeps so well in his bouncy chair so I don't know whether it's just being on his back that he doesn't like.

Went to the walk in centre last night as midwife says I'm hurting because stitches have slightly started opening Sad and to avoid getting an infection to get some antibiotics so we left DS with OH's mum at ours and set off around 7pm and didn't get back til around 10pm.
Stings when I wee which isn't great and also not had bowel movement yet but that's not totally unnatural for me, I don't go that often but thinking about it makes me cringe because of stitches etc Confused. So have got some lactulose to take Confused has anyone had the same thing? I want to go for a poo to get it over and done with but I just don't dare ConfusedConfusedSad

PenguinPoser · 27/04/2015 18:43

www.ethicalshoppingforbabies.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/caboo_carrier_review.jpg
This is the close caboo- I think there are other slings that look and work the same. Cinnamon a video would be great!

Glad your ds has slept RL - I heard somewhere that good daytime naps can mean better night time sleep as baby isn't over tired so you never know!

DD screamed all morning along with bringing back most of her milk. She's slept in my arms this afternoon then when dh got home she was settled so has been on play mat and had a bath. I haven't been out today so feel a bit enclosed! My gran is back in hospital again (after breaking her arm badly) and I want to go and see her but realistically can't leave dd without boob and not taking her onto a hospital ward! Confused

OP posts:
PenguinPoser · 27/04/2015 18:46

And RL yes the first poo is awful but the anticipation is worse than the event so try and get it over with if you can! Pad of loo roll held against the stitches definitely helps.

ChickenMe · 27/04/2015 19:06

Penguin I practised my wrap leaning over the sofa or the bed in case I dropped her. I also learned a lesson not to try and put her in it unless she is already chilled out. I like the close caboo. I have the papoozle. It's taken me several goes and I'm still not confident-I wouldn't go out in it yet. There again I've just managed to have a bath for the day so not much chance of going out anywayConfused
We are going to a first communion at the w/e so I might take the sling then.

ChickenMe · 27/04/2015 19:12

I had Fibogel RL* is that the same as Lactulose? It's a fibre drink and it seems to work. TMI and I'm no poo expert (lol) I waited until it felt like the poo was going to drop out with minimal straining before i went. OH was instructed to bring grapes galore. Is that why you get given grapes in hosp?

Anyone had their 8wk check yet? Not sure what to expect but I think I have an anal fissure (sorry TMI again!)Sad

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 27/04/2015 19:30

I went with a couple of glasses of prune juice a day RL, did the trick! used it in 1st trimester too to keep things moving in a really natural way!

PenguinPoser · 27/04/2015 19:41

I have my postnatal check tomorrow (6 weeks) Chicken. When I do them at work I generally ask about... Any problems in general, breasts and feeding, mood, bleeding, contraception. Definitely mention your concerns to your GP they have heard it all before (and seen it all!). Will let you know if anything else happens at mine! Have dd's 6 week check at the same time. She isn't smiling yet which I know they will ask but I'm not too concerned as she was 3 weeks early anyway. Any other slightly older babies smiling yet? (It does concern me that maybe I'm not giving her much to smile about!!!)

OP posts:
brummagem · 27/04/2015 19:50

Lactulose softens your poo to make it easier to pass. Fibrogel and other things like that are to keep things moving so they don't back up and you become constipated. Both effective but slightly different.

The old chestnuts of lots of fluids, fibre (All bran cereals are ace for that) liquorice and some exercise and going when you need and not waiting all help. As does bringing your knees up above your hips so you're squatting more helps things move easier.

I'm interested in the slings too but didn't know what to go for so thank you for the practical input! This is where being the last one to have a DC helps! Grin
