Felt we might need a new thread to get through the night feeds and labours!

Has anyone else's pain come back? It had eased off on Thursday/Friday, but last night it has been niggling at me and my lower back hurts too. No real change in the amount of bleeding and I've not seen any big clots. I had my first poo on Friday so I shouldn't be constipated, perhaps I have a bit of trapped wind?

kismac · 26/04/2015 09:49

Oh no. Sorry for those that had a tough night.

Happy birthday to your little one, Cinnamon. Enjoy the party.

So my body is broken. Contractions got to 2 min apart and were lasting over a minute, so went in to get checked. Still not dilated anymore but cervix is soft and forward. They've given me co-codamol and I am now refusing to go back in until I hurt so much that I want to be shot cause clearly my body just likes having contractions really close together. Thankfully the monitor was picking them up so I am not imaging it but they just don't seem to be very useful contractions. I can't bloody wait for my induction date on 1st May now as I don't think my body can do it on its own. Sorry for massive moan. So tired and emotional with it all.

daholster · 26/04/2015 09:54

Mine came and went a bit Lauren, bleeding picked up again then had to ho through whole process again it felt like but gas gone properly brown now, at 2 weeks still using sanitary towels though 3x a day. Smells v icky to me though... But swab last week showed no infection so maybe lochia is just gross...

Another one here up half the night. Ds is choking loads for some reason, am trying to change my hold so he comes at the nipple more sideways than underneath so he has more opportunity to get rid of the excess (my friends daughter used to let the excess milk pour out of the side of her mouth down mum's tummy!) But overnight he must have choked at least 3-4 times in his 4am feed. Yesterday he was doing it too. He then couldn't settle, grunting and whinging with the odd burp/sick and v sloshy tummy but I couldn't get the rest up
Got dh up at 6 to have him for a bit but couldn't really rest. The burps come up and he swallows them (grr) then he got hiccups... Now feeding again and he seems sleepy... Maybe 6 hrs later we will get some shut eye. Oh but dd will get up!!! (Can't believe she is still asleep).

penguin fluconazole is fine. I have a medications in breastfeeding text book. Also look on the breastfeeding network website, their pharmacist is awesome. There are leaflets. The pharmacist wrote the book I have, its a brilliant resource (and charity) the bfn. You can even directly email the pharmacist. I did about my colitis meds and she replied with all the research and bioavailabilities etc.

Fluconazole is not licensed in breastfeeding mothers but IS licensed in children. The dose of fluconazole that appears through breast milk is something like (trying to remember since glued to baby and book is downstairs sorry) 400mcg per kg. Licensed oral dose for babies (even prem under 1kg) is I think 6mg per kg. The worry is the half life because its about 4 or 5 times longer (88hrs) in babies due to underdeveloped liver and kidneys so the worry is about accumulation over a course. You have to make sure you don't take too high a dose that's all. Switch to miconazole 2% for nipples and miconazole oral gel for baby (both OTC). That plus fluconazole eventually worked for dd. Breast thrush is so miserable, poor you Flowers After 6 weeks old they stopped worrying about dd and fluconazole because they said her liver was mature enough anyway. Well done for sticking with it. Breastfeeding is so hard without thrush too!!!! Brew

(If you can't find the info on the breastfeeding network website about the medications/fluconazole then let me know and I'll transcribe what my book says. I can recommend it for the book shelf!)

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 26/04/2015 09:55

Oh no kismac! It's horrible. I had the same for 4 days before I went into actual labour, but it did happen eventually so fingers crossed yours will sort itself soon. Plus once I was in established labour it was really quick so maybe all the practice helped? Hope things get going properly soon though, it's tiring and demoralising when it feels like it'll never progress. it will and it's worth it!!!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 26/04/2015 09:56

Your body is doing it kismac if your cervix is soft and forward. Mine was stretchy but still think and posterior when I was induced so you're already progressed more than I was! Sometimes prelabour can be very long but labour is actually quite quick. Try not to be down about it, they are all for a purpose. And 1st may is only 5 days away!

Yes me Lauren82000, I thought it was a bit sinister but nothing else happened. Also bleeding got lighter and then heavier again. The pains seemed to only be after a very long feed in the second week though.

daholster · 26/04/2015 09:56

Cross post kismac, poor you have demoralising. Hope you can get some rest Flowers

ChickenMe · 26/04/2015 10:14

That sounds awful kismac, whereabouts is the pain? Front or back?
Ugh had a rubbish night cos DD was so noisy and feeding for short periods. I don't think OH gets that four hours sleep all broken up into uneven blocks is not four hours sleep!

FiRaffe · 26/04/2015 10:16

Sorry to hear it isn't the progress you wanted kismac but at least it's progress. Hope things continue to improve and you can meet your little one soon.

Sorry to hear more bad nights. My phone was on white noise duty last night so couldn't catch up. It worked though so will keep in my arsenal!

Lauren82000 · 26/04/2015 10:30

Waving pom-poms for you Kismac hopefully it'll go quick and you'll have your little bundle in no time.

Have to get ready soon going to MILs for our bacon butties. Could do without going out really but trying not to disrupt DD1s routine too much if we can help it. At least we can leave when we've had enough, it's difficult to kick visitors out of your house. Wink

kismac · 26/04/2015 10:33

Thanks guys. Feel so crazy as I can't stop crying but that's just cause Im tired. Pain seems to be more focussed in my back. Im hoping once labour does kick off it is quick. Midwife actually warned me that I might end up having an accidentally home birth the way things are going. Really want to avoid induction if possible, especially since my dad goes on holiday on 2 May so won't get to meet the baby until 2 weeks later which isn't ideal but can't be helped.

Lauren82000 · 26/04/2015 11:09

Well it happened to me Kismac. Wink These babies don't wait around when they are ready.

ChickenMe · 26/04/2015 11:15

Back pain is hard kismac, OH was on back rubbing duties cos that's all I had. No "period pains" just back.

IvegotaCaveTroll · 26/04/2015 11:26

Sorry to everyone who had a bad night- including me...
Not long now kismac (though I no it feels like ages!)

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 26/04/2015 12:18

Just hot back from seeing the midwife for DD's 10 day check. Now very fed up as she's still 90g below birth weight so not being discharged, they are coming out to reweigh on Thursday. I wouldn't mind but she's feeding all the time so now I feel useless!! Booooo.

Hope everyone is finding time or a rest today whatever stage you're at!!

FizzyBubbly · 26/04/2015 14:11

Thinking of you Kismac, hope things speed up for you. Have you tried being on all fours to help ease your back? Or a bath/shower?

Just had my sweep done, am 1-2cm (means nothing for a 2nd timer tho I guess). Cervix is central, so starting to move forward, and is 50% effaced. Fingers crossed it works but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Looking at my notes and theres an abbreviation which I don't understand so don't know if anyone can shed any light? It says 'head @ -2 @ SPNY' I get the -2 bit (so 3/5's engaged right?) it's the SPNY bit that's puzzling me. Or it could be her handwriting and I'm reading it wrong!

IvegotaCaveTroll · 26/04/2015 14:55

Maybe spny is the position and sp means

  • symphysis pubis- but I'm just guessing.

Little grey cat maybe now baby is feeding lots ul c a good weight gain at the next visit. U are not useless!

FiRaffe · 26/04/2015 15:04

Thinking of you kismac and Fizzy. Sorry no idea on your notes - I never got that far!

LittleGrey - i'm sure you are doing a great job, just some babies take a bit longer to put on weight. Keep going and make the most of extra midwife appointments to make sure you're okay etc

PenguinPoser · 26/04/2015 15:06

Fizzy it relates to where babies head is in relation to the ischial spines (part of the pelvis that they can feel inside). The abbreviation likely means spines. -2 means head is 2cm above them, the - means above the spines. Position 0 means at the spines and + is below the spines (wouldn't really happen until 2nd stage labour).

This has a picture.

Don't fret littlegreycat my dd didn't regain birthweight until day 19!

BananaToast · 26/04/2015 15:11

Just checking in - am going to try and catch up with recent posts but am woefully behind.

Everything is pretty fantastic with baby - he is feeding well and managed to sleep almost all of last night, bar a couple of feeds and changes. Much improved over the night before when he fussed and cried for a good chunk in the middle of the night. DH is amazing and quick to take Ollie for some daddy-baby time when I need a nap, and watching them together just makes me melt.

My boobs are pretty sore since milk came in a couple of days ago, and one nipple is a bit cracked but feeding isn't painful so just ploughing on with the lansinoh. My stitches are pretty sore but nothing unmanageable.

All in all, just feeling completely loved up Smile

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 26/04/2015 15:30

That's so lovely banana! They really are amazing aren't they?

Thanks everyone. So emotional these days, I don't know what's going on! I suppose it's hormones and exhaustion, I don't felt sad but I cry at everything!! (Like when I cried because her poo face was so cute earlier... genuinely a nutter!!!!)

FizzyBubbly · 26/04/2015 15:47

Makes sense Penguin, thanks!

Good to hear everything's going well Banana!

Midwife was fairly brutal with the sweep so bleeding quite a bit and very crampy. Had cramps and lost my plug when I had a sweep with DD and that didn't work so I'm not going to count my chickens

kismac · 26/04/2015 16:34

Aww, LittleGreyCat good luck for the next weigh in. Im sure you are doing fantastic and baby's weight will pick up soon.

Fizzy, that sounds positive. My sweep on Wednesday didn't hurt but I did have bloody show afterwards and examination last night didn't hurt either. She gave the baby's head a wee poke whilst there which is really weird.

Aww, Banana that's so lovely to hear that things are going well.

Wee trip to IKEA and supermarket, just so I could get out the house. I then threw up in the supermarket car park and then waddled round the supermarket feeling very sorry for myself. DH bought me ice cream to cheer me up. Result!

cowbiscuits · 26/04/2015 17:17

Aw Kismac! Hoping things progress soon for you.

I've had some very string tightenings this afternoon, and a bit of acheyness. Wondering if its the start of the start. Rang my mum to give her a heads up in case she needs to come look after DS. She lives 2h away, dMIL is round the corner and can look after him for short periods but she is disabled and can't get down to change nappies/dress him etc so we need my mum for overnight. The logistics of what happens in middle of night, or if things move fast are complicated.

Also I have Group B Strep so have to be in hospital in time to get IV antibiotics before birth.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/04/2015 17:28

Try not to feel like that LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar, you are doing just great!! Some babies gain weight quicker than others and its probably a very old rule that they must regain birth weight by 10 days. You have provided all the nutrition your baby needs for the last 10 days and that's amazing, 90g is nothing!

Sorry the midwife was rough with you FizzyBubbly but hope it gets things moving.

So lovely BananaToast! I'm too scared to say anything about nights BlushConfusedWink

Fingers crossed cowbiscuits!

FiRaffe · 26/04/2015 18:32

Fingers crossed the discomfort will be worth it Fizzy.

Hope things are okay cowbiscuit. The logistics sound complicated but at least you have a plan. How much earlier do you need to be in for the antibiotics?
