Felt we might need a new thread to get through the night feeds and labours!

Back on boob Hmm I want to go to sleep at some point tonight. Shouldn't complain really as all the boob time is helping with the jaundice but it irritating when DH is next to me snoring away

Hidingthefear · 26/04/2015 00:51

Baby's cord fell off on day 2 and we bathed him on day 3.mainly coz mw suggested we bath him and rub some olive oil on as his skin was dry. He was over a week late though so she said it was pretty normal for dry skin.
day 4 and uncontrollable sobbing o's here I think. I keep crying uncontrollably tonight although I think some is due to sleep deprivation. Getting him to s, esp in pram was a fluke and he just won't lid on his back. Fed pretty much every hour and I'm shattered. This breast feeding lark is so hard. DH is crappy at be in awake at night and having no sleep so I've , eft him in bed.seeing his tired face and hearing him say "I think he wants feeding" every time he doesn't settle straight away gets on my tips.
I'm also passed coz my dad wants dh to go to help him put shelves up tomorrow in his new house so I'm gonna be home alone, and MW is coming tomorrow and I'm just really tired, and now sobbing again, brilliant

Hidingthefear · 26/04/2015 00:54

Sorry, that last post was really selfish, just moaning away when we've all got struggles to deal with.
think I'm gonna wake dh so he knows how hard I'm finding this
good luck to anyone else still up at this time xx

londonlivvy · 26/04/2015 01:20

oh hiding don't worry. we all need to let it out sometimes. you're right it is bloody hard.

I sobbed and sobbed today with sleep deprivation. eventually dh took dd2 from 7-1130pm whilst I slept (I left him with expressed milk) and now although I'm awake I feel more sane. perhaps you could do something similar tomorrow with your dh?

PS hormones don't help
pps shelves are not important right now. if you need your dh then I think you get first priority

cinnamongreyhound · 26/04/2015 01:50

Perhaps he can stay home until the midwife has been and you both go Hidingthefear? Then it's a change of scenery for you and he can do the shelves?

Hope you mange to put your ds down Lauren82000, if not you manage to sleep with her in you. Sam has got easier to put die with each day at night time and I'm learning all the time! My dh is snoring upstairs not next to me but equally annoying although I am glad we're not both awake and he wake when slightly when I get up and go back to bed. Although of mentions how 'disappointingly small' my mum is during the night one more time I may hit him Wink

Wineandchoccy · 26/04/2015 01:52

hiding I hope you are asleep by now but if not give your DH a prod from me and tell him it's his turn!

DH went out last night but I never heard him come in and dd has just woke for a feed and there's a note next to me to say he is in the spare room so he didn't wake us but to get him if she won't settle and there's a ps to say there are 2 slices of pizza in the kitchen Grin

PenguinPoser · 26/04/2015 02:37

Hope you're ok hiding - totally normal to feel like that and I hope you've managed to get to sleep for a bit. Definitely get your OH to take a turn of holding/settling baby. I'm definitely going to try and make the most of that tonight as it's the only morning dh doesn't have to be up for work.

Lauren same to you hope your dd has settled.
Londonlivvy glad you managed a few hours.

I'm peed off at this stupid thrush!!!! DD seems ok with her white tongue but my nipples are so sore again when feeding her to the point where I'm cringing and not wanting her latched on. Latch doesn't look any different to normal so can only assume it's the thrush. I'm using the cream regularly and giving dd her meds don't know what else to do I feel like she's sucking glass out of me Sad I'm so peed off cos we were doing so well!!!

OP posts:
PenguinPoser · 26/04/2015 02:42

And I have an irrational hatred of dh being in bed asleep while I'm up tired feeding in pain and can't get bloody comfortable in the chair Angry

OP posts:
Wineandchoccy · 26/04/2015 02:55

penguin sorry you are in pain, would nipple shields help?

ChickenMe · 26/04/2015 03:23

You poor thing with the thrush Penguin. Yes yes to nipple shields-my DD appears to have it too and I only seem to have avoided it because I'm still using the shields. Go back to your GP. I've bought some probiotic yogs cos I had IV AB so I prob have vile gut flora.
BF is making me soo dehydrated-I can't keep up. Side effect of this is constipation and what I thought was a pile is sounding more like a fissure. Very sore and fed up - sore from her hard sucking too. Hate this time of night too-so depressing.
Hiding hope you get some rest. It's normal to cry loads, especially if it's for no reason. It does improve.

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 26/04/2015 03:24

Hope sleep is happening all around. I had a tearful evening and now feeding wishing I'd gone for a wee before I started!!!

PenguinPoser · 26/04/2015 03:55

I wish I'd gone for a wee first too littlegreycat! Been sitting here almost 2h with a very twisty baby who is only just starting to settle. I might actually kill dh for being asleep. If she doesn't settle in the next 10min he's getting woken up to do his stint. She settles better on him anyway.

Hmm good idea about the shields I'll have a look in the morning and get them sterilised. Was at GP on Friday she said keep using canesten cream. Have my postnatal appt in Tuesday though so if I'm still suffering will discuss it again. Wondering if I'd be better with the oral tablet but read that it's not safe in breastfeeding so Confused

Chicken has your dd got treatment for thrush? I didn't get symptoms until days after she did and wish I had initially treated her earlier. I know what you mean about dehydration too I keep getting headaches if I haven't had enough and feel like constant drinking is the only way to get enough! I don't normally drink lots so it's difficult.

Right dd seems to be dozing off. 5 mins and she's going back in pram with Ewan on and if she wakes dh is getting a prod!!

Lauren82000 · 26/04/2015 04:09

And it's come off. It had made it's way round the back of her sleep suit! No wonder she was fussy. It's a bit pink at the top but I'm not sure if that's where the clip has been spinning a bit and rubbed. Will check it next change and see if it's less pink. Doesn't look angry pink and its not bleeding or weeping.

RL20 · 26/04/2015 04:33

Oh hiding you sound exhausted in your posts. Let OH take over in the day so you can catch up on sleep. I feel a bit less emotional now I've started catching up on it.

LittleGreyCat hope you are ok Brew.

Talking of going for wees, my last wee really stung my stitches Confused ouch. I haven't really had much stinging until now! Even though I do rinse down with a cup of water each wee. I still haven't been for a poo yet but I don't go regularly anyway, but really dreading the first poo Confused. Please tell me that it's not as bad as I think it will be?

On a better note, DS has finally done a good old poo Grin. Well actually he's done 2 good yellowy ones since my last post. Never been so pleased to see a poo!

Has anyone's DC's had the heel prick yet? Midwife is coming today or tomorrow to do it.

Sending tea to everyone that needs it! BrewBrewBrewBrew

ChickenMe · 26/04/2015 05:42

Hope your DD finally slept Penguin. Yeah he gave her Nystatin but said he wasn't 100% sure if it was thrush or not. I lied and said my boobs itched so that he would prescribe the cream. That's cos my best mate had it and I'd heard it was hell. The shields i have are Medela.Mothercare and John Lewis sell them but Boots don't seem to.
RL sounds strange but I loved my first poo. I was scared but so needed to go it was such a relief. Glad you LO has done his poo. I feel like all I talk about is poo and milk these days lol.
Hope you're resting greycat.
Aargh my DD slept for 90mins and then gets me up to feed for just 14mins only to pass out. So she will be up again in an hour.

Lauren82000 · 26/04/2015 05:46

RL if your mw didn't tell you stick some socks on baby's feet when you get up so they will be toasty. Makes it easier for getting blood. Other than get your boob ready for when it's done and expect lots of crying. It can be a little traumatic but it's mainly your mummy instincts telling you to protect your baby from someone hurting them. Just have a good cuddle afterwards and it'll all be forgotten.

I've got mine today too but DD1 was stabbed many times as they wanted to check her jaundice levels.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/04/2015 05:50

Good news on poo RL20, hopefully that will help him settle! Yes Sam had his on day 5, it's not so bad, they have a little machine that pops out a little blade to cut them, midwife drops blood onto spots on the rest paper, fills in details and sends it off. They do cry but not for long and better to know if they have any of the diseases. Pku for example can cause quite severe mental retardation if not spotted, with the right diet there no symptoms at all. They should explain it before they start though.

I had one thrush treatment with ds1 that didn't work so they prescribed and alternative PenguinPoser, I felt a difference in a couple of days once that started. I'm the same with dh if I've been up too many times!

ChickenMe be strict and have a glass of water with every feed. With ds1&2 and I had a pint that I got before I started. This time one got a 1L volvic bottle that I am refilling during the day and I drunk a whole one during his two night feeds the last few days.

Got to ice ds1's cake today and then we're off to my mums for lunch for his family birthday celebration. Really can't believe he's 8, he's such a kind, clever little man now it only seems like yesterday I was here with him!!

brummagem · 26/04/2015 06:41

Have officially got baby envy. I know I shouldn't and should be enjoying sleeping pretty well with only 2-3 wake up times at night for a wee but I've even been lurking in the May baby thread and they're getting births already meanwhile mine is still very cozy and content inside. Slightly obsessed me thinks Grin

As a first timer I'm trying to avoid buying gimmicks so is there anything baby related you recommend now your DC are actually here apart from ear plugs?

FizzyBubbly · 26/04/2015 06:57

Morning all! Brum I know what you mean about baby envy, although reading everyone's night time woes brings it all back and I think 'no you can stay in there a bit longer!'

Hope you're getting on ok Kismac?

Had another night of getting strong tightenings every 5-7mins before bed but as usual they've stopped. My midwife is coming over this afternoon to do a sweep so hopefully that will kick things off properly. Had one with with DD1 but that didn't work so don't want to get my hopes up.

Hope everyone isn't too tired today

40+3

cowbiscuits · 26/04/2015 07:23

Hello everyone.

Brumma I'm getting baby envy now too, think this one is quite happy where it i

Fizzy, I've been getting those regular tightenings every night too, and they always go overnight. I wonder why its always evening, do you think we just notice it more or its because we're sitting still more?
Good luck with the sweep.

40+2 today

brummagem · 26/04/2015 07:32

I get tightening like cramps along the sides of my tummy in evening and restless legs. Also back aches and period type pains again it all disappears overnight though. Maybe it's preparing us for the 'over the top' final push?

Good luck with the sweep!

TinyTear · 26/04/2015 07:36

Brum. Funny but ear plugs is what I don't recommend. I panic if I can't hear dd.

Main things for me have been a sling and a good stash of muslin cloths... Never saw the point of so many cloths with dd1 but newbie is a posseter so lots of spit up to mop...

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 26/04/2015 08:28

I agree tiny, have to wrap her with an obvious point where I can see her chest moving too so I can check on her if she's breathing quietly!!!

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 26/04/2015 08:30

Thanks for the nighttime support too everyone... so lovely knowing there are people going through the same so offer advice and comfort in the dark night!!

cinnamongreyhound · 26/04/2015 09:00

Argh restless legs are awful brummagem, luckily mine went once little man was out! I would agree a sling (mines a stretch wrap, pretty cheap), personally I like to have a baby bath, a cot, bouncy chair, nappies, wipes and clothes! I love my nappy wrapper but it often gets slated in lots of place. Agree with TinyTear your need for muslins will depend on your baby, with ds1 I was never more than a metre from one, didn't need them at all with ds2. I also need quite a few breast pads but stopped wearing maternity pads and moved to sanitary towels after a week and now panty liners two weeks on.
