Welcome babs! ThreeBean, my booking appointment is a week from today.

abi2790 · 07/05/2015 10:33

Afloat my booking in is the same day as you when I'll be 10+2. I still don't have a scan date either and I don't think I'll get one till after the booking in which means I could be waiting a while :(

ThreeBeanRap · 07/05/2015 10:54

abi I'll be 11+3 at my booking appt!! Because of this, my midwife has sent off my paperwork to the hospital so they can contact me separately to arrange a scan date, maybe call and ask if the same can be done for you?

afloat · 07/05/2015 11:15

abi I'll be 8+2 and even that feels kinda late to be meeting a midwife for the first time Confused I guess the appointments will start to speed up later on...

Withalittlesparkle · 07/05/2015 11:16

Fizzie try not to worry, your booking in appt is to meet your midwife, have everything explained to you (testing, appt scheduling etc) and anything else that may be on offer in the local area.

I assume it's your first so they may take extra time with you

Measurement wise, weight, height, blood pressure and possibly a carbon monoxide test (if you don't smoke this will be fine)

I think they're only concerned with bmi's over 30, if that's the case you'll be offered a glucose tolerance test, and probably be referred to a dietitian or someone like that (which you can refuse)

Midwifes aren't there to tell you off, they're there to support and advice and ensure you have the healthiest pregnancy possible

Good luck

Avasmum8 · 07/05/2015 11:21

Hey Fizzie, at the booking appointment they will go through you and your families history, any multiple births, and medical conditions ect, take bloods, measure weight and height to calculate BMI (depending on how overweight u are they may refer you to consultant/take higher dose of folic acid those sorts of things) but they deff shouldn't 'have a go' at you! Talk about foods to avoid, where you want to have your baby, take BP and urine sample, and book your scan :) x

No idea why that posted twice

abi2790 · 07/05/2015 11:48

Threebean it sounds like you have a very helpful midwife Smile. Ours is the community midwife therefore it's usually a different midwife every appointment due to her not being available. I must have only seen her once possibly twice with ds so I don't think she would be able to get the paperwork through. The midwife is only at the gp's once or twice a week too so i cant even phone and ask. I will ask at my booking in though. I could be wrong and I get a scan date before or soon after booking in but I doubt it. I had my booking in at 8 weeks with ds and had a scan appointment way in advance.

orangemouth281 · 07/05/2015 12:08

Congrats to all those with good scan news and welcome to the newbies!

I still haven't heard from the midwife about a booking in appointment but I'm only 7+1 so there's still plenty of time. I'm not having the best time at the moment as I've not been feeling great, a combination of nausea and what I thought was a bad cold. The doctor has diagnosed chronic sinusitis this morning which is made worse by pregnancy! It also means I can't have any treatment but she has referred me to an ENT specialist who probably won't be able to do anything because of the baby. I have been suffering with this for months now so hoping for some progress. I am off work today with DD who has the runs so can't go to nursery which is great with the nausea!! Only 6 days until my private scan so looking forward to that and 9 days until we go on holiday so fingers crossed we are all feeling better by then!

Hop everyone else is feeling good, sorry for the huge moan!!

edinburghdancer · 07/05/2015 12:19

Hello Orange - my sister is also getting referred for chronic sinusitis after her two. She had an almost permanent cold through her two pregnancies but it was the constant headaches that stayed with her even after DD2 was born (18 months ago) that have been driving her batty.

I went to docs this morning and got a test for a UTI. Turns out it's not and it's probably the one thing I never thought I'd have with only half a set of bowels - constipation!! Given I've been on a low fibre diet for .....ever, it is going to feel really weird to have to eat all bran!!

Sweets27 · 07/05/2015 12:43

Hello everyone, welcome babs!

Sorry to hear you're under the weather, orange. Hope you manage to feel better before your holiday, and if not, then I'm sure the relaxing break will sort you out! Smile

I let slip that I'm pregnant to my sort-of boss today (not our department head, but one of the partners I work for). I'm so glad I did, it's helpful to be able to talk to her about the tiredness and the time off I'll need for scans, and she's already telling me we can chat to reduce my workload a bit for the rest of my first trimester. I'm also fairly confident she won't breathe a word to our department head, whom I'll have to tell later on. Feels like a weight off my mind, really!

Hope everyone else is having a nice day.

Withalittlesparkle · 07/05/2015 13:11

That's brilliant sweets, it's surprising how supportive people will be

FlorIxora · 07/05/2015 13:15

Sweets That's great.

I am rather envious. I told my boss yesterday after he announced his wife was pregnant the day before. He seemed to take it well, but no offers of reduced work load were made to me. I work till 6pm but struggle massively past 4pm.

Sweets27 · 07/05/2015 13:47

Oh Flora that's annoying. Maybe if you asked them to make allowances / help you reduce workload / keep an eye on you if you're exhausted, they would help? It might be that he just doesn't have any idea how tired you are, and if you let him know, he'll be reasonable. To be honest I doubt I'm going to get a huge amount of special treatment, it's just that this partner is aware I've been pulling horrendous hours lately that would be exhausting at the best of times, so she'd probably be looking at my workload anyway.

orangemouth281 · 07/05/2015 14:13

Thanks Sweets and edinburgh I'm not surprised she was batty, it's horrendous, I can't imagine putting up with it for that long!

I have also told my boss. She said "oh is that what you wanted?" and quickly changed the subject. She is probably not best pleased as I have only been back from mat leave since November.

Twinwife · 07/05/2015 15:03

Hi everyone,
Welcome Babs; I hope you can get everything sorted to get your stitch in time.
Congrats to all with positive early scans, I am a bit jealous! My midwife told me to chase up my 12 week scan if I hadn't heard anything this week (10weeks). I finally got hold of them today and didn't have one booked, but I was able to book for 23rd May! This is great as I think I will be 12+1 I think, and will hopefully be able to share the news before my sisters wedding the week after!

In other news I survived a hen do this weekend and my bridesmaid dress is being let out an inch -fingers crossed!

ChandlersFarang · 07/05/2015 16:01

Really handy info there ladies about the NHS appointments. I surprisingly had a really helpful guy deal with my query at my UK GPs surgery today. I thought they were going to tell me to fuck off because I was basically saying, I fly back to the UK at 13+6, (and you have to have the 12 week scan done by 14+1 at the latest apparently) so it has to happen on 32 June... And they were totally helpful!!! Was amazing. Really can't wait to get home now GrinGrin

So just when I thought I was on top of things, my nausea changed today! I'm 7+5. I usually feel sick when I'm hungry and then better once I start eating. but today I was nauseous all the way through breakfast, and then didn't fancy eating anything much all day which is the opposite of my previous ganet-like approach... Got home after work with a headache and threw up for the first time!! So it seems things may be ramping up as I approach 8 weeks. Bonkers this stuff isn't it?!!! Have any of you noticed things changing or getting worse from a certain point? X x x

ChandlersFarang · 07/05/2015 16:01

Lol - I meant 22 June!!!! 32 June really would have been an unreasonable demand GrinGrinGrinGrin

chopsface · 07/05/2015 16:13

Great news to everyone who has seen healthy beans on scans!

I'm currently on holiday and today I have stopped feeling pregnant :-( I'm still hungry every hour and snacking but my nausea has gone. Or am I getting used to it?! Doubt it. I can't help worrying though. I know I should be pleased that I'm feeling good and able to sight see and enjoy myself. If I hadn't read about mmc I would be laughing how easy this preggo lark is!

Sorry the vomming has ramped up Chandlers but that's a good sign right?

edinburghdancer · 07/05/2015 16:44

Hi chops Don't speak too soon. It's all about the differing levels of hormone, getting used to it and sometimes it causes different things. I've been worried that my boobs aren't sore this week but last 2 days, I've not been able to move without feeling nauseaus (not helpful when in the office and looking at people with daggers as they've made me look at them to talk to them!). Things change, day to day, hour to hour. Sometimes getting worse, sometimes getting better as your body thinks of other ways to deal with all these hormones. You are a passenger so enjoy the ride - if there's no bumps on this part of the road, even better. There's sure to be a pot-hole later that rattles you a bit! Wink hope you are feeling just horrible enough again soon.

Great news on your scan chandlers. Did you get the only helpful receptionist in the NHS?! Not so good news on vomiting.... ish!

I'm counting down the days to my scan on Monday when I should be 7w+1. I've only tested about 4 times this week, just to make sure!

edinburghdancer · 07/05/2015 16:45

Sorry orange, my point was meant to be that it's apparently a really common problem in and after pregnancy that most people just put down to hayfever so good you get it nipped in the bud now!

ineedsomeinspiration · 07/05/2015 17:02

My booking in appt went well today and was pleased my bmi was under 30 so no referral there. I got my appointment for my 16 week appointment for the 15th June. Not that far away. They seem quite efficient here, I got my scan appointment in the post a few days after I'd called the midwife to self refer.
DS has been quite challenging today and I'm shattered. Feel a bit bad as some friends are having a pre wedding party this evening and I'm sent dh on his own because I'm just too exhausted. Also got to bake stuff for wi ve day tea tomorrow.
For those with disappearing symptoms I have times/days of feeling fine then next thing I know yuk.

Jebel · 07/05/2015 17:05

Clare, vodka, Fizzy, JCandy congrats on the scans, lovely news

Welcome babs

Orange really feel for you, I had chronic dry sinusitis and it made me so miserable, I was convinced I was dying from the headaches.

Chandlers, chops my symptoms are coming and going. 10am I felt on top of the world, by lunchtime I was lying on the sofa moaning.

My work situation has still not resolved. 2.5 weeks after saying they intended to terminate me, I still have nothing in writing and no idea if they will honour their obligations. I am ready to fight, I know the system in Qatar, contrary to what you read in the papers, workers are quite well-protected. But I really hope I don't have to. I am applying for jobs but Ramadan starts mid-June and then everyone leaves the country for the summer so it is very unlikely I will find anything until after the baby arrives. Sorry, long ramble but bit stressed!

BabsUnited · 07/05/2015 18:59

Thanks for all the welcomes and Flowers for those struggling with sickness

Has anyone self-referred to a consultant? I saw my last consultant for a pre-conception appointing late last year and she gave me the impression I could just get back in touch again when I got pregnant. I emailed her on Tuesday and no reply so far Confused... the last time I emailed her about getting on her pre-conception clinic she replied about 20 mins later copying in her assistant to book me in. Am I doing it wrong, should I go through my GP? Don't actually have one yet as we've just moved house Sad
