I've got my anti d booked for first week in May. I have to go to the hospital for mine though :(

What's the consensus on the whooping cough vaccine? My mw hasn't mentioned it to me but I knew about it through the pg I lost last time. Is it normally around now we start having them or later?

Broody I had my anti d today at the hospital, I think they only do it at hospital. Was ok actually, midwife done it slowly as that apparently helps, bit of a numb arm for a bit after but that's all.
I have my whooping cough vaccine tomorrow by practice nurse at docs, was my midwife that told me to do it last week at my 28wk appointment. I'm trying to get all appointments done cos I am off.
Midwife said whooping cough jag was 'worse' than anti d. Not sure what she meant but I'm sure it will be fine.

Naturegirl82 · 13/04/2015 18:39

I think whopping cough is after 28 weeks if I remember correctly as that then protects the baby when it is born.

I feel very lucky to have my MW who comes and does all these appointments at my house. Sounds like some of you are having an absolutely awful time.

MustBeLoopy390 · 13/04/2015 19:06

Im unsure on the whooping cough as its a booster, I've never been immunised against it at all so I need to check if it would be effective for me. Going to speak to midwife again at next weeks 28w appointment about my depression, I've been fine since 2011 but I lost a family member in November just before we found out about baby and I'm still not managing at all. If she won't do anything at all again I'll just ask to be referred or ask for numbers for self referral. Wish I could have my GTT at my drs surgery but they only offer it in the hospital where I am, appointments are at 7.45 am and it's a 1hr bus ride there :( taxi for me I think, I can't function before 7 am haha

Butler4 · 13/04/2015 19:24

Sorry should have said whooping cough is after 28 weeks.

smallgreenbanana · 13/04/2015 19:36

mustbe sorry to hear about your problems - that sort of uncertainty is the last thing you need when dealing with mental health issue! Much support from me.

The whooping cough vaccine - pretty sure it does not matter whether you've had it before or not. Only the vaccine had this close to the birth protects the baby. Being vaccinated yourself as a child has no effect.

NotPennysBoat · 13/04/2015 19:53

My GTT was a bit of a disaster to be honest!

Arrived at the hospital at 9am already ravenous! Nurse managed to get blood first time, gave me my disgusting drink and sent me to the waiting room for 2 hours. She encouraged me to drink plenty of water while waiting to help with my veins.

2hrs later called back in and after three attempted stabbings and no blood, I started to feel light headed. After a few minutes with my head between my legs, I realised I was going to be sick! Lots of retching and a full sick bowl later, I had also managed to wet myself producing a plentiful puddle on the floor. Embarrassed is not the word! However I felt better for it and was determined to give blood so I didn't have to repeat the whole horrible experience! Two more stabs from two more nurses - result! Glad to have it over with now, have spent the afternoon in bed feeling sorry for myself!

MustBeLoopy390 · 13/04/2015 20:52

Flowers oh no, im sorry you had a bad time NotPennysBoat! Big hugs xxx

jmojo · 13/04/2015 21:00

notpennys how awful. Chocolate is the answer (unless your GTT comes back high of course!!Wink)

Clstow · 13/04/2015 21:39

Hey hey, just checking in.
Hope you feel better notpennys, and great work to all who got through the test, sounds horrible.
Soo I've noticed some fine fluffy hair on my neck/face... Is this a pregnancy thing or am I turning into wolverine?

Fattycow · 13/04/2015 21:47

If it makes anyone feel better: they don't do whooping cough vaccine over here in pregnancy.

MrsFbabyNo1 · 13/04/2015 22:06

Oh notpennys that sounds a whole load of drama but at least it's out the way now.

I'm seeing midwife for pre holiday check over tomorrow, see if it's a 4th midwife in 4 appointments!! The last one mentioned blood tests when I get back so assuming it's the gtt - which I'm really looking forward to now, not! will be 28wks when we get back.

Naty1 · 13/04/2015 22:13

Were they trying to get blood with a vacuum syringe?
I have awful veins - they couldnt get 1 to give ABs in labour.
I tell the nurse before they try now, so they know to use a smaller needle. A hot drink often helps and seems to work better if ive walked there. So not great sitting for gtt.
Also a different tourniquet clip thing.

JoY007 · 13/04/2015 22:18

Hi mustbeloopy sorry to hear about your problems, and I hope you get the help you need. Best to take a cab if that early, at least you are not hungry for too long Grin
Notpennysboat hope you are feeling better Cake

I am having my whooping cough vaccine next week at my GP.

broodylicious · 13/04/2015 22:19

Oh penny, what an eventful day!! Hope you got some rest and feel better now.

butler, I had my last anti d in my thigh/bum and I didn't react badly at all. Maybe a bit faint but tbh that was probably because of all the waiting around in a sauna of a hospital! I wonder what the possible side effects of the whooping cough jab are then. I shall defo be having it whatever anyway! I've got a mw appt next tues (27+1) so I will arrange my jab for then I think.

notpennys oh dear what a day! Hope they were kind to you. SmileFlowers

Fleurchamp · 14/04/2015 07:26

Hi all, have been AWOL on this Fred for a bit, finding it hard to keep up and I am not on the FB group, hap do I join?? Smile

I have GTT in two weeks' time, glad to hear your stories - good and bad Shock

I also need to book my WC vaccine, was undecided but think I will do it.

LaLaLaaaa · 14/04/2015 07:46

Fleur pm me email I'll stick u on

LaLaLaaaa · 14/04/2015 07:52

Penny that sounds awful you poor thing!!

I used to get very dizzy and sick with injections and blood taking. I've learned if they don't tell me what they are doing I'm fine so I always tell them that. There's still always one who goes 'I'm just going to do it now' and I have to bark 'do to tell me!' At them. Otherwise they'll end up with me on the floor Grin

I've got anti D week after next, then wc at 31 weeks booked in. WC is an important one in my mind - it's a horrific disease and I want to make sure my baby is as protected as I can manage.

I'm fed up with leis saying I'm huge. My bump does seem quite large compared to others same amount of weeks but I figure he's growing up into my ribs which is why it sticks out.

The comments just keep coming though :(

I am wearing a splint on my wrist now at work because I seem to have developed carpal tunnel. I am also seeing Physio next week for my hips. I'm falling apart!

LaLaLaaaa · 14/04/2015 07:53

*dont not do!

LaLaLaaaa · 14/04/2015 07:55

My phone is useless. *people not leis.

People saying I'm huge!

Oh I just read back too. You vaccine for WC when little won't protect your baby. This vaccine now will cross placenta and give them protection until they have their own vaccine after birth

fattymcfatfat · 14/04/2015 08:08

anyone else started feeling sick again?
I had the WC with DD but then I am ok with needles so no solidarity from me sorry.
ugh so tired and ill. and massive Sad

Mrsc020987 · 14/04/2015 08:31

Had wc with dd1&2, (2 and 10 months) injection is fine, its a stingy arm for a day or so after tho!

Zampa · 14/04/2015 08:43

I presume that not everyone has a GTT or did I skip that part of the book?

CL My body hair is much finer than it used to be but there's certainly more of it. Going to get my legs waxed ASAP now the weather is improving.

LaLa I've started getting problems with my pelvis/hips in the past couple of weeks. Ran for a train last night and couldn't barely walk afterwards! Calling the doctor today for a physio referral.

LaLaLaaaa · 14/04/2015 09:23

Zampa you're right that not everyone has it. I've not been told I need it
Ouch about the hips, I sympathise!
