If you could actually see it, that is!

hiya all - hope you're all ok after what sounded like slightly stressy weekends? although chocolate fudge cake is ALWAYS good!

"As your baby grows towards the end of pregnancy, the shape of your uterus, your liver and intestines encourage your baby's presenting part (usually head, but sometimes bottom) to dip down into the pelvic cavity. This can occur as early as 33 or 34 weeks, but may not happen before labour starts. If the baby engages in the pelvis early this does not mean that you will give birth early. Usually the baby will engage in the pelvis by 37 to 38 weeks, but this process can also be affected by lots of other things." ah...good old google, makes me look smart every time!

daisypops - i can usually see baby move in the bath...try drinking a glass of ice cold water then getting in the bath, or just splashing the bump. or poking it. that works for me too. in fact, DH had a lovely game of maltesers football with the bump yesterday, until i got fed up with being covered in melted chocolate.

theUrbanDryad · 06/11/2006 11:47

oh, and LTH - i think you should cut your dh's bits off with a rusty saw! why should it be up to you do "protect" yourself from pregnancy? don't think witholding sex is a bad solution at all....

Daisypops · 06/11/2006 12:10

Thanks Urban, maybe I'm a bit early then and bub is just having a quiet day. I can feel that he/she has moved because the hard bits keep moving about, I just can't SEE the ripples and jumping. I'd love to know what they get up to in there.

Just thinking about how nice it would be to have sex and not worry about if you remembered to take your pill or if the condowm split. I need to convince my DP that 2 bubs is good but hes having none of it. Hes even said he'll secretly have the snip , not sure if its possible to keep sore sausage and beans a secret though!

Another question aswell girls... this will be far TMI but I gotta ask, sorry in advance. Here goes... my fandango itches! Not all the time just once or twice a day but its the outside not the inside if you know what I mean (sorry) On saturday I got up and shaved it all off coz it was driving me mad. DP's face was a picture Is this thrush or just sweaty fandango itching? Sweating leads to thrush though doesn't it./ Sorry to go on but just need to ask. x

theUrbanDryad · 06/11/2006 12:36

i had this too found that a shave and trim of the old "ladygarden" sorted it out...it was sort of at the top, iykwim. also, wearing a pantyliner at the beginning of the day, then removing it at about lunchtime helped to keep things fresh down there. or change your pants if you're at home. i did know the name of the discharge you get when you're pregnant but i've forgotten it.

i also forgot how to spell exercise this morning. amoeba are cleverer than me at the moment. actually, yeast is. glum.

Daisypops · 06/11/2006 12:46

Thanks Urban. Shaving it all off has relieved it a bit, it just seemed to be sweaty all the time, now its just a matter of keeping up to grooming it. It was like a patchwork quilt when I'd done Have you been wearing pantyliners for ages. I seem to have had loads of white discharge from the start. Will take the good advice and let me fanjo have a breather this aft!!!

theUrbanDryad · 06/11/2006 13:06

well, all the books say you should let a baby have time off his nappy...just run around nekkid for a bit this afternoon!! that should sort it out! do you wear tights or tight trousers? that would lead to sweatyness...

i've been wearing pantyliners or getting through two pairs of pants from the start of this pregnancy. but then i am very finicky about this sort of thing and hate feeling "sticky" or dirty down there.

what a lovely conversation to have just before lunchtime!!

Daisypops · 06/11/2006 13:13

I'm the same Urban. If I didn't wear pantyliners I'd be changing my kegs 10 times a day. It seems never ending! Just gonna go enjoy my dinner now, no mayoniase today thanks (sorry)!

theUrbanDryad · 06/11/2006 13:36

i fancy some live yoghurt myself!

looks like it's just you and me on here at the moment daisy...

how sad are we??

muppet3 · 06/11/2006 13:39

Not just two of you! You know, I think you've hit it with the panty liner/dryness thing. Itching has been annoying me, but it's not like proper thrush and am sick of changing underwear lots and lots each day. Duh. Me idiot.

MrsPeacock · 06/11/2006 13:43

Just to add to the contraception/snip debate, this is my first and do plan to (hopefully) have another, so no snip for DH just yet, I had a coil before ttc, and had no probs. It was a gynefix which is a string with copper beads on it, had it in for 5 years and no bother at all.
I am a proper card carrying mentalist on any kind of contraceptive hormones.
Will be straight back to the family planning clinic for another coil as soon as I have got this baby out.

Daisypops · 06/11/2006 13:44

Just the three of us then! I'm at work and REALLY bored, 6 weeks left til my maternity starts!

Muppet it seems the answer is to shave the old fanjo. Our DP's/DH's will be happy

Daisypops · 06/11/2006 13:46

My problem is convincing DP that 2 kids is good. Hes having none of it. Says we're just having this one and spoiling it.

Daisypops · 06/11/2006 13:49

Does anyone know if you get free eye tests when your pregnant?

theUrbanDryad · 06/11/2006 14:13

no, you don't.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news. you only get a free eye test if you're over 60, under 16 or under 19 and in full time education, suffer from diabetes or glaucoma, or have a close relative who suffers from glaucoma, if you're registered blind or partially sighted or if you calim some kinds of benefits.

don't know why you don't get it if you're pregnant. pregnancy can affect eyesight, the same way it affects your teeth. and you get free prescriptions, don't you? madness...

Daisypops · 06/11/2006 14:25

Thanks again Urban! You're a fountain of knowledge!

saltcod · 06/11/2006 17:50

DP, if you do lots of computer work in your job, you're entitled to free eye tests - at our place you just have to fill in a form (from Personnel) & get a VAT receipt for the eye test from the optician. Then get the ££ refunded by work.

laughalot · 06/11/2006 19:11

Hi girls hope you are all well sorry to hear about the itchy ladygardens I must admit I go through endless pantyliners at the minute, daisy if you think it is thrush the doctor can give you a prescription for the canestan pessery I had thrush a couple of weeks back and spoke to doc who said so long as I dont have the canestan oral and use the pessery baby will be fine, if you cant get to docs you can buy it but its around £10 however you do get the cream with that aswell. Iv been a busy bee my ds has moved into his new room which has all been decorated he loves it and slept fine last night, and finally mananged to get into babies room to put the finishing touches to that so all in all a good weekend .

2Happy · 06/11/2006 20:07

Evening everyone. Not much to report here. I actually slept on saturday night, only woke up a couple of times and even then it was only briefly . Best night's sleep I've had in months. Normal service resumed last night though . dh is on call tonight though, so perfect excuse for me to insist he sleeps in the spare room ! He got his job, though, so coffebeanz you'd have to trek a bit further North to use his services . He'll be based in the same small town I work out of, so maybe we could meet for lunch occasionally (and who knows? He may even take his turns dropping ds off/picking up from CM!!).
Pantyliners? Yuk. Nasty plastic sweaty things, I'd much rather change my pants a few times! And that's one thing about having your kids close together (TMI alert!) - my last AF before getting pg with ds was August 2004, had bleeding obv when he was born but then because I was bf, only one af between having him and getting pg again! And I'd happily never have another period again, lol! (though maybe not if it involved being permanently pg )

OonaghBhuna · 06/11/2006 20:09

I wish I was as organised! We have been getting building renovations in our house, the whole thing is a nightmare 13 weeks later and we still have no kitchen....Every room has boxes in it. However hopefully this weekend we are going to sort out DD's bedroom as she needs to be sleeping in a bed as she is too big for the cot, poor thing.
Bump is sore today and I am the size of a house! I go through two pairs of pants a day and have a packet of femfresh wipes in my bag too, I hate being sweaty!!!

Tillypup · 06/11/2006 22:11

Hi all,

Still generally feleing fine (sorry!) Though I did have a terible nights sleep on Saturday night, woke up around 1am, thrashed around for ages then had to go and be sick, I think that I had eaten something that disagreed with me as I felt fine again on Sunday morning!

Doesn't shaving your bits make you even more itchy??

OonaghBhuna · 06/11/2006 22:26

I was wondering about that to but didnt want to ask!!! I had an emergency c/s with DD and as the anesthetist was telling me what he was going to do the MW was carefully shavingthe top half of my bits, I was mortified even after 24hrs of an unsuccessful labour....!!!!! It was soooo itchy when it grew back.

Love2dance · 06/11/2006 22:30

I'm now thinking of shaving/triming my lady garden as have the same symptoms as y'all. Sex doesn't seem to help. In fact even when I have a lovely time on the occasions when we manage it these days my bits feel a bit sensitive and sore afterwards. Anyone else have this?

As we're being frank also found a teensy bit of blood after a wee early evening. Not much but Dr. had gone home. Hope it's nothing to worry about, and that it's just connected to the fanny bashing (in the nicest possible way!) that I got on Sunday night. Baby is still moving about and I'm seeing GP on Wednesday. Was supposed to go last Friday but am in the middle of a heavy work thing out of town and got stuck on the M1 on the way home and didn't make it in time . I CAN'T WAIT to stop work.
Forget the sex. In need of a hot cup of cocoa right now. Night all

elliepmummy · 07/11/2006 08:12

Busy on here lastnight! Had a wierd thought baby may come early as I have mad nesting urges at the mo went to work yesterday and felt awful all day. Picked DD up from my mums got ome and her to bed at 7 and even though I should have sat down had this mad thing that I had to clean all the kitchen (emptied all the cupboards, doen the front of the doors swept under fridge freezer etc etc also cooked dinner. Then dh said are you going to sit down but wanted a bath went up at 8.30 and ran a bath but decided to clean all the tiles and bath panel etc so didnt actaully have a bath till 9.15! again this morning been up since 6 (DD actually laid in till 7.15 )and I have cleaned all the doors and frames upstairs (never ever clean doors!) wax polished the bannister and started to clean the inside windows. Hope this isn't going to continue for another 8 weeks I'll be knackered!

Lizzz · 07/11/2006 08:47

Are some of you still having sex? Oh my god?! I feel like a born again virigin. I swear actually giving birth maybe fairly impossible as my hymen has probably gown back! My poor dp is being very understanding though. He works for Ann Summers so he can probably vent any frustrations at work!
Even the thought of having sex with him makes me wince. Does anyone else feel like they have been kicked down there? My midwife assured me its just sensitive nerve endings but flipping heck its sore!
Moving on....fructin, that indigestion thing does taste better than gaviscon, but works just about as well. I am givng up and resigning myself to the fact that this pregnancy has just about given me bulemia or anorexia, anything more than a cheese sandwich and I'm heaving. Great!

shimmer: 36 C is the same as a 34 D. So, yes, a 34 C is smaller than a 36 C.

mrs peacock: some ladies find it comfy to sleep in soft cups but its up to you. I dont. But apparently women in France do it even when they are not pregnant.

LTH. Hope you have a good week, definately think your dp should get the snip. After 4 babies its his turn for some medical intervention.

My dp is a terrible snorer, and keeps me awake all night, even from the next room, but as I keep telling him, a small hole drilled in your nose is nothing like the pain of giving birth right?!

Finally today...has anyone got any advice on buying cotbed matresses? I'm a bit flummoxed. Going to mothercare world on saturday. I swear it looks like mothercare has exploded all over my flat, but we need to get the cot sorted. Though I really am not sure about matresses!

Dragonhart · 07/11/2006 11:58

Lizz, I bought a sprung mattress from Mothercare which has a zip off top layer to keep your baby cool. I got a spare one and it is great if DS is teething and dribbling all over the mattress/nappy leaks/is sick as you just zip it off and put the new one on wiht a new sheet and it is all fresh. You can just put the dirty stuff all straight in the washer rather than having to clean a waterproof sheet. MIL scoffed at it though and said it was a waste of money (they are quite expensive) but I loved it. Made my life easier.

I also had one for the crib when he was in our room. Does anyone know if you have to buy a new mattress for a new baby? I can wash the top layer at 60 degress but not sure if I need to buy a new one for SID?

Jess sorry about your DH, def not hormones there. That would p*ss me off whether I was preg or not. Why is it that men seem to blame anything where we disagree with them on hormones!? Hope it is all a bit better now.

Sorry - think it was muppet asking about cabrio car seats? I have one and I found that after you have put the seatbelt over the car seat and into the buckle, if you lean really hard against the seat belt and then put it over the back, then when you have finnished with the seat belt, push the back of the seat back against the belt so that it kind of slides so the seat is lying down slightly more makes it tighter. Sorry that sounds complicated, tried to write it afew times but that is as clear as I can get!!

My DH has suddenly got a cold and of course it is man flu! He doesnt get many but when he does, its the end of the world. Last night DS was having wicked trouble with his teeth, poor boy and I spent most of the night going into him to calm him down and give him various drugs to try and help. DH said he would have to keep blowing his nose and it would disturb him. By the time DS eventually got to sleep, my pelvis felt like it might split in two and my back was killing me from lifting him. Came down stairs and DH was sat playing some idiotic game on his playstation, and I had one of those 'oh my god, I feel so much worse than you and I have to carry on so why cant you' moments. They have no idea how hard it is to be preg. DH is usually really good and has been helping loads but apparently a little cold is worse than being 30 weeks preg.

Right ranted enough now, welcome to all the newbies, there is quite a group of us, just afew days off and it takes ages to catch up!
