If you could actually see it, that is!

OP posts:

Galmum.... I had this in first pregnancy & found sleeping with my feet elevated really helped. I used to tuck a big stash of catalogues, large books etc under the mattress at the end of the bed - easier than trying to sleep with your feet on top of a pillow! Drinking lots of water is supposed to help too

Galmum · 01/12/2006 12:51

Interesting - I'm going to try banana at bedtime and a glass of tonic - will report back on results. I also stocked up yesterday at Sainsbury's - I was so chuffed to see the 3 bottles for £2 - OMG - I'll be a coupon loon before I know it!

becks5109 · 01/12/2006 13:27

must have been something in the air as i was reading my book in the spare room at 3am last night - think i only read a few pages though and then dozed off with the light on. Had horrible dream all about the smell of fish though and woke up gagging like i was going to be sick. Starting to feel very big and elephant like now and by yesterday afternoon could hardly walk as right knee and ankle felt like i had arthritis but seems to have calmed down now - must have done too much walking yesterday. Good news though is that i've found a playgroup for my DD to go to on Thursdays from 9.30 - 12 where I can drop her off and leave her and have some time to myself - also means when bubba arrives I have a morning with just me and the baby to chill out - hopefully!!!

Hattie2 · 01/12/2006 15:34

Hate to say this but I'm actually sleeping quite well at the moment - but don't worry, I'm suffering in many ways when I'm awake to make up for it! Constipation - will try the kiwi fruit (thanks poppynic), jabbing pains in the small of my back and the feeling that this baby is about to drop out being the worst 3 today.

Also had a small 'leak' this morning, not waters breaking as nowhere near enough liquid for that but a definite leak. Hospital said I need to take it easy and lie down as much as possible for the next 5 weeks! Very easy with DD to look after, plus the fact I'm supposed to be working for another 3 weeks.

Hope magnolia's doing well, can't wait to hear some good news.

ELM · 01/12/2006 18:43

Socks... Thanks Lizzz.
Sorry to hear about your 'leaking' Hattie2...((big hugs)) from me.
Am really stuggling to be positive today (not a big surprise on about 3 hours sleep!) I don't know how all of you with toddlers manage it when sleep deprived.
A couple of nights of bad insomnia and already I'm moping about, feeling sorry for myself! Doesn't bode well for after DS is born...
DP is getting a bit pissed off with my lastest pregnancy neurosis... that a fox is going to get in to the chickens. He may have a point as I keep waking him in the middle of the night to check they are locked away.. ..
On the positive side DP is out tonight at his work's do.. so I am going to cheat and get Fish and chips from the van..
Anyway enough rambling on from me....hope the tonic water works for everyone tonight! May check in later to see if there is any news yet from Magnolia.....or at some un-godly hour in the morning if I can't sleep!!

Lizzz · 01/12/2006 20:22

I have found that salt helps a bit with cramp.
I get it really bad in my shins occasionally, I even pulled a muscle in my leg from it coz it was so bad!

I am so knackered, I look like a total zombie. If I dont sleep tonight I'll go mad! My DP's snoring is so bad that he sleeps in the nursery/spare room. I can still hear him through the wall though! I hope he doesnt keep the baby awake when he arrives!

Loubie37 · 01/12/2006 21:47

Hi, just a quick update from me as I'm mega tired and going to bed in a mo - re my botty troubles, all I can say is thank heavens for glycerin suppositories!! I rang my GPs this morning almost in tears I was in so much pain (not surprising after not going for 3 days!) and a lovely nurse rang me back to say a prescription for the suppositories and lactulose would be ready by lunchtime. I didn't dare ring in sick on my first day back so I struggled through work and went on the way home....without going into too much detail, 15 mins after I used a suppository everything was fine, and it wasn't too painful either I'm hoping now with the amount of liquids and fibre I'm having that I won't need anymore 'help', if I do I'll try and avoid the lactulose until after my GTT next week as it could affect the reading with it being very sugary. I'm a very relieved happy bunny tonight!

Sorry for no personals, DH has been using the PC most of the evening and I'm really tired and ready for some sleep now Have a great weekend everyone, will catch up with you all properly soon

theUrbanDryad · 01/12/2006 22:49

hiya all!! what a whingey lot we all are at the moment! oh well, we're down in sunny surrey this weekend...after another mad hormonal friday night from me! man i'm sick of these moodswings, i'm usually so even tempered and reasonable, but this evening i screamed at dh to do the washing up and even resorted to violence. then stomped upstairs in tears absolutely appalled at my behaviour! then my lovely dh came up and apologised!!! bless him!

cramp - magazines and miriam agree that it's a sign of low calcium, apparently, so you need to drink milk. i've not had any so can't really offer any other advice than that i'm afraid.

my first antenatal class was good - but lasted over 2 hours! the room was very hot and stuffy though, wished i'd brought a bottle of water with me! we just talked about the positives and negatives of labour (my positive was free drugs! ) and then chatted for a while. was nice to meet other mums though - some are closer than others! one is 37 weeks!!

well, i hope you guys all get some sleep tonight, we'll be tucked up in our cabin listening to the gale!! xxx

Galmum · 02/12/2006 09:10

Hope the restless ones slept better last night! Glad to hear the antenatal classes are going well - let me know if you get any annoying men that cannot stop asking about the parking arrangements and the drive to the hospital. They tend to get a bit obsessed about their only clear role in the process poor loves!

Dranks loads of water yesterday, had a glass of tonic at bedtime and a banana. I did not get any cramp in the night !! Only got it after my husband woke me up which I can live with! Also drank lots of chocolate milk yesterday - maybe my body knows it needs calcium??

Anyway have realised that my scientific study is flawed as I don't know if results are down to increased water, banana, tonic water or chocolate milk!! Will be trying various things this week.

Hattie - Hope you finding some time to rest
Loubie37 - I would check if lactulose effects GTT. It may not,as you starve for 12 hours and then they give a controlled drink to monitor how your body processes it. It's more accurate than the plain blood sugar test which can influenced by diet I think. Lactulose is great stuff so don't rule it out if you don't have to!! Have you tried prune juice - there is some gorgeous organic stuff in Sainsbury's.

Galmum · 02/12/2006 09:12

PS Hope Magnolia is doing ok. Big hugs and positive vibes coming your way

coffeebeanz · 02/12/2006 12:35

'Gorgeous organic prune juice ' not something that appeals to me I must admit but whatever works for you Galmum

I'm managing to sleep reasonably well, the only problem is that some clown keeps turning on the radio in the middle of the night (very low volume I must admit) to find out whats happening in Australia. God knows why he cant wait until he gets up. It kind of disturbs me but I'm so sleepy and huge that I cant be bothered to hunt for the remote so I just ignore it and go back to sleep (make a mental note to find the remote b4 going to sleep tonight). My other moan is that my calves have swollen and I cant fit into my new boots without straining the zips ! Oh the joys of pregnancy !!

Have a good weekend everyone !

laughalot · 02/12/2006 13:14

Hi ladies hope all is well with everyone, well I finished work on thursday went for my routine midwife appointment had all the usual checks done and then she asked me if I had packed my hospital bag as I had symptoms of pre eclampsia and was going to be admitted to the labour ward ,I nearly cried couldnt get hold of dh he was in a meeting ended up going to hospital with my dh grandma who was really good bless her heart, everything turned out to be ok I had high blood pressure, protein and keytones in my water and baby had a abnormal heartbeat but all is fine and im finally home with my dh and ds and my little baby is still tucked away nicely, the thoughts of her being deleivered before xmas made me feel sick. I bet one person who has a little bundle is mags cant wait to hear all about it.

elliepmummy · 02/12/2006 15:23

Laughalot at your week there have been a few of us with 'scares' lately so glad to hear that is all okay with you and baby. Wouldnt surprise me if at least another one of us has a baby before xmas.

Been t work this morning 9-12 and told my boss I'd like to finish on friday 9th rather than the 15th he said we'll talk about it on monday.

Then came home after getting DD to find a fu*ing £60 parking fine as DH had got a ticket and 'forgot' to tell me I'm going to kill him the really annoying thing is it was at 8.30 in the evening and he had parked for 5 minutes to go and get a KFC for tea so bloody expensive takeaway that was, didnt even know they worked that late at night (and if he had piped up about it before now we could have paid £30 so may try saying we posted a cheque did they not receive it???)

theUrbanDryad · 02/12/2006 16:48

elliep - traffic wardens are one of life's little burdens, as are parking fines. don't ever think they stop working - i've known someone get a ticket at 3am outside my old flat. really pissed me off as well, cause the police used to regularly park there without their blues on, which, of course, is illegal. but hey, whaddyagonnado huh? i hate the way it's more expensive in some towns than others as well. i once got a parking fine in spalding, and it was only £14 in the end cause i paid it straight away! madness!

2Happy · 02/12/2006 19:55

Laughalot - glad to hear everything ok now, what a scare for you. Guess this means more check ups?
EPM - man, that's an expensive take away! What a bummer.
dsis came over today. She's 21 weeks but it's not going so well. Her 20w scan showed a bowel abnormality, and the radiologists can't decide what it means. Their best guess just now is meconium ileus - when the baby's poo blocks the bowel and makes it swell. It can be caused by lots of things, including cystic fibrosis which bil's sister has. They also aren't sure but think it could be so bad that the bowel has perforated, which means there's a high risk of prematurity, growth retardation, still birth. The main problem is they can't tell for sure, so all they can do is keep scanning throughout the pregnancy and see what happens. She can't have the homebirth she wanted and will have to deliver with paediatric surgeons standing by. So she now has another 20weeks of worry ahead of her, which is just shitty. Makes me feel guilty for moaning about being sick of being pg and wanting it over. And makes me think of magnolia again, and all the weeks of worry she endured about her placenta and the warnings she was given about the difficulties she might have at section. I know she has more on her mind than posting here, but really hope it went well.

What a miserable post . Ignore me. Sorry.

ELM · 03/12/2006 07:39

Morning!
2Happy..your poor sister, must be horrible for her (and you!) right now. Will be sending positive vibes her way.

It's thundering here, and chucking it down with rain.. but I'm excited because we should be putting the finishing touches to the nursery today...
I'm also starting to get very nervous about being induced...not this week, but next...aarrgghhh. and to top it off, I'se just found out that the neo-natal unit at our hosp was closed for 5 days due to MRSA. Am going to find out what has been going on tom. at my hosp app.... hopefully it's not as bad as it seems.

Loubie: Glad your 'problem' is sorted, must be such a relief
Laughalot: Fingers crossed that it all settles down for you....did they say how many proteins they found?

Loubie37 · 03/12/2006 07:55

Grr...I hate this weather - don't know what it's like for the rest of the country but we've had really bad gales all night...I've been awake listening to it since 3am Got up this morning to find half the back fence is gone More expense, on top of the £227 vet bill we received yesterday

On a brighter note it's DS's birthday today, he's 13. I've got 2 teenagers now and a baby due next month - how did that happen??!!

2Happy, what an awful thing for your SIL to go through, can't imagine how she must be feeling.

Laughalot - hope things have settled down for you too, scary stuff eh?

ELM - it's a massive relief thanks and I'm pleased to be able to say things are definitely back to normal down there now...except I've got piles now . Saying that, I'd sooner have piles than that other pain any day! Good luck with the nursery, ours has been done a while now except for the curtain tie backs - I keep nagging DH to put the hook thingies up but no joy as yet, grrr!

Hope everyone else is well

Loubie xx

theUrbanDryad · 03/12/2006 10:30

loubie - when it comes to DIY i take the same approach as DH does to housework. i tried to do put a mirror up once, and did it so badly that now, whenever i ask him to do something like that he does, almost instantly. it's great!

the weather here was mad last night! we were in the cabin at PIL's, DH slept through it, but me and the cat were up listening to the gales and the rain. was quite nice really. dread to think what state our garden fence will be in when we get home though...it was on its last legs anyway! oh well, one of the few joys of renting is that you don't have to pay for these things yourself!!

ELM - good luck with your induction. at least if the hospital's been shut for MRSA now then it's unlikely that it'll happen again so soon...

Galmum · 03/12/2006 10:38

Sorry to hear that some of you have n't been well - hang on in there ladies and rest up when you can.

2Happy - Can't ignore you! So sorry for your sister, it must be so scary for her and bil - it's such a long time to wait to see if everything is ok. Suddenly life changes from normal crap to big worries. Big hugs to all the family.

Try not to feel quilty about moaning. We all know that moaning is trivial, insignificant and unimportant. I've been indulging in a good moan - for me it detracts from the fact that all we want in the world is to have a healthy baby and that I'm fearful that the baby may develop the same cancer as my son. Every day I'm grateful that so far this pregnancy is going ok -it feels like a miracle that this baby has survived the worst time in my life. Hope things start to look up for your sister.

PS Prune juice can be delicious - honestly!
PPS Yes - I too have been hearing cricket in my dreams - oh no it's the radio - joy!!

2Happy · 03/12/2006 14:36

Thanks for your kind words, and Galmum especially - you are very wise. I had worried about mentioning the usual pg moans to dsis, but it seems worse to suddenly not mention my pregnancy at all, I think that would be more out of place. dsis had a dd 3 months before I had ds, and now she's due 3 months after me, so we'd been sharing the experience a lot. We still talked about the future yesterday, but it's like there's this big question mark you can almost see in every conversation. But you're right, Galmum, moaning about backache and not sleeping and how ruddy irritating is it when the baby gets hiccups, it does make it seem more normal.
Anyway, I'm sorry, I probably shouldn't have posted last night, was just feeling a little down, so thanks for putting up with me! (unless there's a secret Jan thread somewhere else no-one's told me about!!)

GodRestYeMerryGentELMen · 03/12/2006 15:51

2Happy- completely agree with galamum, you are allowed to be down on here, that's what we are here for.
At least I hope so, 'cause a lot of my posts have been stressed/depressed ones!

Also for what it's worth, I think that you are doing the right thing about talking
to your dsis..she is lucky to have you to help support her through this.

P.S. Thanks for the name suggeation!!

LadyTophamHatt · 03/12/2006 17:10

Ekkkk....we got the moses basket out of the loft today...
It's kind of scary and exciting seeing it in our room.

OMG!! am I really going to have another baby??

Galmum · 03/12/2006 19:49

Yes - you really are having a baby again!!

Just missed out on a moses basket on ebay - will continue hunt tomorrow!

OonaghBhuna · 03/12/2006 20:47

I need to moan......I have been really ill over the weekend. On Friday I had really bad pains and I thought I was in labour, I also flet extremely sick and couldnt eat anything. I have a tummy bug and have just been sooo ill, my DD and DH have it aswell...... My poor DD has been recovering from a throat infection and now she is really sick again, poor thing.
Our house is a nightmare, we havent had a kitchen for 16 weeks now it was supposed to get finished this week and now there is a leak in the floor so some of the concrete had to be dug up yesterday, unfortunately they didnt find the leak. Panic hasnt quite set in yet but its getting close with a due date on the 3/1/07 and a provisional section booked for the 27/12 OMG!!!! My DH sys that the section is booked for that date but I think I am in denial about it. I wanted a natural birth but know that its not going to happen.

Dragonhart · 03/12/2006 22:20

Sorry you are all so poorly Oonagh. We had a bad tummy bug last week here and I got really scared about stomach cramps too. Know how you feel about the Kitchen thing (although our is not quite as bad!) and we have eaten really badly for the last few weeks as it is so hard to use it in the state it is in! Hope you get the leak sorted and everything else in time too! Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Trinity, glad scan went well

ELM, Sorry aobut hospital stay, I hated staying in hospital after DS was born (it was my first stay in hospital and I cried every night- although that could have been to do with the 'oh my god I have a baby' and hormonal thing. Hope you are ok now.

Hatie, hope your ok after your 'leak'!

Laughalot, Glad all ok. I always get so scared when they are taking my BP. Hope it keeps down.

2Happy, sending all my best vibes to your dsis. Must be so scary for her, scary enough even though all is ok with me so must be terrible for her! I find it really hard with my sister, knowing how much to talk aobut this baby and my DS after she lost her baby. As my due date (and hers) gets nearer, I worry a little bit more but she told me she didnt want me to feel I couldnt talk aoubt the baby, and keeps asking me. I do feel quite guilty about it all. Know it is not my fault but I doesnt seem fair that she has had it so hard. Hope all goes well for your sis!

Sorry to all the other insomniacs! Sending good sleep vibes out, although they are not working on me! DS is sleeping so well too, so just lie there listening to the wind and worrying!

BTW read that avacados are good for constipation! Havnt tried it though.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend. xxx
