If you could actually see it, that is!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

oooh...cinammon swirl....i'm round my mum & dad's and have bought cream cakes. just waiting for them to get back from shopping so i can stuff my face with them!

LadyTophamHatt · 15/11/2006 11:50

UD...eat them now, before they get back and deny all knowledge of buying them. Cream cakes aren't for sharing.

Eat them ALL!!

Tillypup · 15/11/2006 12:00

I started my "parentcraft" classes last night, they run for 4 weeks. Last night it was all about the first two stages of labour, when to go into hospital and what things to take with you.

32 weeks today for me, so shocked that there are only 8 weeks to go now, it has gone so so quickly!

I started drinking raspberry leaf tea last night, it wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting it to be, don't know if it will make any difference but can hurt!

I love those brightly coloured "bump bands" may have to invest in a couple!

Daisypops · 15/11/2006 12:01

Urban-my ante-natal classes start on 27 Nov and I'm due on 11 Jan so I think its normal for them to seem quite late. I asked the MW and she said they have them late because your less likely to forget what you've been told...like you could!

Mmm, cream cakes, gonna have to have one now.

Got home last night and my cat had poo'd and been sick in my lounge told someone at work this morning and she said 'ohhhh you shouldn't be cleaning up cat poo' FFS! I had rubber gloves on. I can't bear all this crap (soz for the pun). What am I supposed to do leave cat sh1te seeping in to my carpet? Tell you what, wrap us all in cotton wool, don't go out and only eat bread and water.

annieapple7 · 15/11/2006 12:07

Hi everyone new. Pitstop - you have the same EDD as me - the 29th.
Thinking of you Magnolia.
Mm, cinnamon swirls, my favourite. I don't have any so I have had to make do with a hot buttered muffin and a mince pie instead. Already looking forward to lunch.
Feel a bit miffed because I get hardly any ANC appointments. I had one in August, one last week at 28 weeks and my next one is on 19 Dec. I am surprised they didn't say, "Just give us a bell when the baby's crowning..." I know I am an old hand at this (on 3rd baby) but I always liked a bit of medial attention when pregant.
Back starting to hurt now. Anyone see the BBC programme last night about three couples trying to conceive?

LadyTophamHatt · 15/11/2006 12:38

There aren't any ante natal classes near me. No clases at all for anyone.

How mad is that???

they have a drop in ante-natal thung on a monday(i think) where you can go to see a MW but no actual classes.
I was going to do them again even though I'm on my 4th, just for teh social thing. We've only lived here since january after moving from surrey (we're in east sussex now) so I thought it woudl be nice to get to know a few people through ante-natal classes.

Feel quite gutted that I won't get the chance to now.

theUrbanDryad · 15/11/2006 12:39

breathe dasiypops, breathe!!

perhaps you should go here

get it all off your chest chuck!! xxx

poppynic · 15/11/2006 13:29

Annieapple - your ANC visit schedule is a bit bizarre. The NHS pregnancy book says from 28 weeks they should usually be every two weeks until 36 weeks and then every week until baby is born. Magnolia's situation shows just coz your body has done it before doesn't mean the next time will go smoothly. Can you just go along to your GP and get your urine and blood pressure checked?

annieapple7 · 15/11/2006 13:35

I know, I thought it was because that they were cutting back on AN appts generally to save money, (which they are) but there seems to be a variation based on your individual risk. They assure me I can come in at any time if I am worried. I do have a blood pressure monitor, and perhaps I could get some of those little urine sticks, and then I could do it all myself!
I was also interested that so many of you say that your babies are breech - I have no way of knowing, and by 19 December I expect it will be too late to do anything about it if were! My feels like it is transverse at present. Can you tell yourself, or has the midwife told you the baby's position?

poppynic · 15/11/2006 13:41

Good for you if you know what you are doing - my GP who is preggers does hers herself. Otherwise, I'd take myself in regularly every 3 weeks . My stand-in GP refused to take any notice of my complaint about spotting so I rang up the midwives unit and they said come down. The doc I saw there said she thought the baby was breach - no one had mentioned this earlier, although I do seem to feel a lot of fluttering very low. But she said there was plenty of time yet - I hope so coz I don't want a cs and my hospital does automatic cs for breach.

theUrbanDryad · 15/11/2006 13:55

i've just been trying to find out about NCT antenatal classes - DH suggested it! i'm sure we've left it too late though.

has anyone tried them? i've heard that NCT classes are for a very specific "set" of mums, and i'm not sure i'd fit in!

katierocket · 15/11/2006 13:58

NCT classes are usually booked up ages in advance. In our area they suggest that you book by the time you are 16 weeks pregnant!!

katierocket · 15/11/2006 14:01

poppynic - I think everywhere is differenbt though - I had appt at 20 weeks then nothing until 26 weeks then 30 weeks and next one is 34 weeks. Then it's 36 weeks and then every week.

Shimmer · 15/11/2006 14:54

8 weeks to go! Yikes!! This is all getting very real now isn't it!?

I found all NCT classes in my area were booked up months ago - but I guess it does depend on what area you're in. I had an email from the lady who runs it recently to say did i want to sign up for postnatal classes/meetings, which i think I might do cos this is my first and hardly any of my friends have kids so it might be nice for bubs to meet some more little people!

I started NHS classes a few weeks ago. I kind of had to force them to let me on to an earlier session than they originally suggested, they do seem to try and get you to leave it to the last possible minute. I'm doing a hospital tour this evening, which I'm rather weirdly excited about!

I seriously think I've put on about a stone and a half in the last 2 days! I'm suddely feeling massive and my legs and ankles have started to swell loads. I'm trying to keep them elevated whenever I can, but, as I'm sure you'll all understand, this is pretty much impossible most of the time!! Is there anything else that's meant to help swollen ankles?

theUrbanDryad · 15/11/2006 15:07

try a pin

sorry, feeling grumpy...

Daisypops · 15/11/2006 15:13

My MW told me bub was breech. I keep pressing myself quite low down to see if its hard but its not...yet!

Ok, this has probably been asked loads of times, here goes... I'm 32 weeks tomorrow which means I've got 8 weeks to go. I'll be 40 weeks on 4 Jan 2007 but my due date is 11 Jan.So are we pregnant for 41 weeks? Can anyone help get my preg head round this? x

annieapple7 · 15/11/2006 15:41

That sounds weird Daisypops I thought we were pregnant for 40 weeks, 10 months really, although 2 of those weeks are the two before our last period. I have had 4 EDDs - 4 Feb, 1 Feb, 30 Jan and finally 29 Jan. I don't know why. You can go on www.ivillage.co.uk and put in the date of your last period or conception date in their calendar to work out a date. We all get so fixated on our EDD, but has anyone actually "gone" on their due date? I was 2 days early with DS1 and 8 days early with DS2...going by my maths, I should be on the due in December thread!

Daisypops · 15/11/2006 16:00

I went onthe websites Annie and they say 11 Januaty aswell so I'll be 41 weeks then or am I going mad.

My step-cousin is in labour at the moment, she started last night and it in the birthing pool now so shouldn't be too long to go. She 7 days overdue and its her first.

And my friend at work as just taken me to one side to say she is 11 weeks pregnant. She was pregnant earlier on in the year but had to have a termination as the bub wasn't growing properly and they said she would probably miscarry. Fingers crossed for her. x

Daisypops · 15/11/2006 16:04

Please ignore me about my dates, I think I've been counting wrong .

Just thinking about how lucky we are to be pregnant and I've gone all emotional.

annieapple7 · 15/11/2006 16:09

I have just counted back on the calendar and for me, week 1 was date of conception (May 11) and week 40 is week of 29 Jan. But then sums are not my strong point.

annieapple7 · 15/11/2006 16:10

I got all emotional when I opened my new pram bag and saw the terry towel lined changing mat!

Galmum · 15/11/2006 17:08

Jumping back to the query about classes - I'm not doing any as it's baby no 2, but I have been doing a pregnancy yoga class since about 16 weeks. It helps me relax and it's been a good way to get my mind in gear, as my memory has blocked out much of the labour experience from ds (thank god!) I would love to have an earth mother water birth thing - What a hopeless romantic I am! Have invested in hypnobirthing book & CD - please don't take the piss too much!!

I did NCT first time and found the classes pretty good (teacher was not too right on and had had 1 cs and 1 vb) but you normally have to book up really early. We were a mixed bag of couple...let's be honest v.middle class, but I met some nice Mums. I know lots of people who did n't get in and did hospital classes or yoga etc. It's worth doing something with your partner, as atleast the blokes can ask endless questions about the journey and parking. Some men just seem to get car obsessed - some tend to get a one track mind about getting to the hospital and don't give much thought about what to do once they get there!

trixymalixy · 15/11/2006 17:39

Hi,

Can I join too?

I haven't posted on this thread before as felt a bit intimidated by how many of you there are and how many posts!!

I've posted on some of the Scottish threads, but everyone is due miles after me, so felt the need to talk to people at the same stage as me!!

I'm due 21/01/07. Can't believe how soon that is!!

My friend freaked me out as when I said I was 30 weeks, she said "so you'll have your hospital bag packed then"!?!?!?

Has anybody else done this yet, am I really unorganised?

elliepmummy · 15/11/2006 17:45

Hi and welcome to newbies must admit my bag is packed but mainly because I had a few things left from having DD and then threw toiletries in as they were on bogof and bought nappies so they went in and over time its come together.

On a completley (sp?) different note had my hair cut & coloured today was au natureal brown now I'm chesnut brown with shimmer of copper and had hair 5" past my shoulders in summer went to shoulder length bob in sept and today have gone for chin length bob graduated up at the back (bit like victoria beckhams but shorter!) hope it'll be easier to do when I have 2 other people to get ready! But love it and so many people have commented on it so really pleased I took the plunge!

lulu25 · 15/11/2006 17:52

Hey. I'm due on 21 Jan. I haven't even thought about packing a bag. Will get to that after Christmas.
