If you're due in November 2015, well here's your ante natal club! Come and talk about vomit inducing man-scents, cheese roasties you simply cannot do without/or stand, the picked ice cream you must have right now, and the bubbling desire to tell the world but checking dates to restrain yourself!

Morning everyone!
I seen a doctor, and am very embarrassed to tell you all that my pains were partly a UTI and partly due to severe constipation Blush I was given laxatives and kept in for observation while they did their thing and now I feel much better!
I almost died when they said I had a 'significant blockage' who goes to the hospital with constipation?!! Blush
They were lovely about it though and very sympathetic to the pain I was in
Was hoping I'd get a cheeky early scan hole I was there but I didn't! Just sent home to rest and dope myself up with antibiotics
Thankyou all for your concern, feel an imposter now that it was something so ridiculous haha!

Crumbelina · 13/04/2015 11:14

That's rubbish Annatha! Time to kick up a fuss!

I've just booked myself on an NCT course. I've got an early pregnancy session in mid-May and then a 6 session late pregnancy course running from early Sept to 8 October. I'm due on the 24 Oct so hopefully it's not too late! The courses are free from my GP practice (very jammy I know, and no idea why they're free) so I thought it best to book early.

If anything is wrong with the blood test from Saturday (Downs testing) I'm due to get a call from the hospital in the next 3 days. I'm therefore watching my phone and dreading any calls. Worry, worry, worry ...

Good luck with the scan today Coffee!

dottiemad · 13/04/2015 11:16

Great new Banana, even if you are embarrassed!

flyingsprocket · 13/04/2015 11:28

Great news Bananas I hope whatever they did has eased your discomfort Grin

Welcome doomclaw high five from this geriatric 36 year old

BowiesJumper · 13/04/2015 11:37

FREE Crumb? Oo you lucky thing.

I've signed up for the NHS course that my midwife mentioned (may as well!) but I'm umming and ahhing about the NCT one. I THINK I would be paying £267, although it's difficult to work it out from their website... is it worth it? Most people say the actual course is a bit rubbish but it's all about meeting other Mums with babies of the same age and making friends. Is it REALLY worth it?

bananas marvellous that it's an easy fix! Constipation can be really painful, so coupled with a UTI = no fun at all. Hope you feel better soon!

TwoBeesInTheHive · 13/04/2015 11:57

has anyone else not even had the booking in appointment yet?? I filled in the midwife form at the gp's 2 weeks ago this coming Wednesday and haven't heard anything yet! it said if you don't hear in two weeks then call them so looks like I'll have to do that if they don't contact me by Wednesday. 8+1 now, scan seems ages away Sad

ThreeBeanRap · 13/04/2015 12:10

TwoBees I haven't, I've got a doctor's appointment tomorrow (I'm 8+2) and so won't be expecting a booking appointment for at least 2 weeks after that given timescales you see on here. Hopefully sooner!

For those having constipation issues, I've found that lots of water helps things. And if you stop trying to go first thing, but rather accept you'll go after a major meal. Banana, beans, porridge, prunes. If all else fails I am armed with psyllium husks, aka fybogel and suppositories, but it hasn't come to that. It does cause a left sided stitch bottom of abdomen and back if it's too backed up. Sigh, the joys of this.

About the scan it was lovely. They also had something which helped us see the blood flow through the placenta and a heart rate monitor which measured at 170 Bpm. The babe was constantly moving. Putting arms under head, fiddling with chin, kicking it's wee legs. Arms are stubbier. Legs better formed.

Dating scan with nhs at 12 weeks exactly going by last period date. But 12+4 going by the baby's current measurements.

Bowies, I wish I'd done the NCT course. We moved to a new area when I was 5 months of with ds1, and all the courses were booked up by then. I know a few people who did do the course I would have been on and they have formed a really strong friendship group, which I am a tad envious of. Also, from what I hear the course was pretty good, and my NHS ones were awful. It probably depends on the midwife running it, but ours was 3 weeks, a different midwife each week, and they didn't seem to know what the previous one had said or done with us. There was no attempt or opportunity to help us to bond as a group, no introductions or anything. No parentcraft element like learning to change nappies. And one midwife in particular presented everything in a very negative way, I mean honestly, "you won't need an epidural, you won't" as if it'd be the worst thing ever if we did, and " make sure they remove the tube properly as I've known it to be left in"?!! "Make sure they put a tag on the baby before they take it anywhere"!! Really putting the wind up new parents. Honestly we considered complaining it never got round to it. I'm sure there are other much better ones but made me wish we'd manger to get into NCT!

HeirToTheIronThrone · 13/04/2015 12:42

My mum is still friends with people from the NCT group she joined when having me - and I'm 32! I think we will try and do it, but the money element does put me off a bit. My midwife runs sessions at the local children's centre which are free, you do three evenings late in pregnancy. So that's another option.

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 13/04/2015 13:11

I didn't do nct but I am still really close with my antenatal group from mn last time! I think nct would be very useful for meeting people locally though- especially if you're planning to be a sahm. I'm definitely going to go back to work, probably in about May so then available time for socialising and baby groups is limited anyway.

Crumbelina · 13/04/2015 13:22

Bananas Grin. Happens to the best of us!

TwoBees I think I had my initial GP appointment around 6 weeks, got dates for the midwife booking-in and 12w scan date the week after, had the booking-in appointment around 8 weeks and the scan bang on 12 weeks. I'd definitely call by Weds - sometimes you have be a squeaky wheel ...

annatha · 13/04/2015 13:57

The hospital can't get me in any earlier apparently and will still look at taking the measurement as they can get it up to 14+1, but if not I'll just have to have the blood test again. Ho Hum.

Re. NCT classes- my nearest were over an hour away so I didn't do them last time but wanted to. I didn't know that they were so expensive though! I went to three or four antenatal classes at the local birthing centre last time though and they were useful- aimed at first time parents, we were shown how to change nappies, bath babies, dress babies appropriately at night etc- all very basic information but it was perfect for my husband and I as we were the first of our friends and family to have a baby and had no experience in that sort of thing. I was hoping to meet other parents through them but everyone seemed to cling to their partner and not really socialize. I've met lots of lovely mums afterwards though at various baby groups so I wouldn't worry too much if you don't meet people before the baby arrives.

This time I'm torn though- we're moving to Darlington at the end of the month and don't know anybody. I'd like to go to antenatal things for the social side but don't think that the parent craft classes I had last time would really be of any use (especially as I'd probably be turning up with DD. I'd happily let others change her explosive nappies for practice though!)

NoMoreSashimi · 13/04/2015 14:06

Can't believe how quickly this thread fills up! Lovely scan pictures Crumbelina and focus!

I've got my 12 weeks scan later today and haven't been able to do any proper work today... Just so worried about it. I am in general bad with expecting the worst, but the waiting is very hard, especially with all the scaremongering about older mums.

So by the looks of things my last post didn't send?! Confused

So the rumour around the office is I'm pregnant.....ahhhhh!!!! Apparently the girls that smoke were speaking about it today and it's all because I've stopped smoking!

This is what they are speaking about upstairs! I only know as I've told 2 people at work and 1 of them was asked directly if I was....why can't people ask me?! I'd say no as its too early but ugh!

Also means I should really tell my boss at the next opportunity as I don't want her to find out due to this rumour!!

Oh btw I have an office to myself on the ground floor which is why I've said its what they're saying upstairs!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 13/04/2015 14:33

I think it's pretty rude of people to speculate crying! It would make me tempted to just leave them all hanging for as long as possible. No one else's business why you're stopped smoking! man I miss smoking

cryingbabymess · 13/04/2015 14:40

Yea upstairs can take a jump! It's the fact they will discuss and "diagnose" me and not even ask me!! Angry I certainly won't be running to tell them! It can filter through as gossip but only after my 12 week scan and even then I might just tell a couple more people and ask them to keep it to themselves!

I should really tell my boss tho but I'm quite nervous! Blush it's really annoyed me!!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 13/04/2015 14:44

They will speak amongst themselves but no1 will come outright and ask me which does my head in!

Crumbelina · 13/04/2015 14:57

Positive thoughts NoMore! I'm 37 soon and everything has been ok with me (so far). You're in good company here with all us thirty-somethings.

Good work, Guybrush! I think we should be posting more about our food achievements Smile

I can't believe how rude some people can be Crying! Do they not realise how insensitive that kind of speculation can be ... I'm grrr on your behalf.

flyingsprocket · 13/04/2015 14:58

I kinda think it's rude to ask if you have a suspicion somebody's pregnant. I always assume if they wanted me to know they'd tell me, so I wouldn't ask them directly and a)embarrass them or b)force them to lie.

I know lots of people suspect I am pregnant, it's really hard as I'm a pilot & have to stop flying. People always ask me where I'm flying to next & I'm so rubbish at lying. I'm suddenly available for things at the weekends where I hardly ever get weekends off normally!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 13/04/2015 15:03

You have to stop flying? I had no idea. Do you just have to stop working completely then? Sorry for being nosy.
