themidnight I don't think your plans are too ambitious. Obviously check with your airline, especially for the trip after the Turkey one, as often they won't take you after 28 weeks. Take you notes with you wherever you go, make sure you have correct travel insurance etc. I went to Egypt at around 26 weeks with DC1, walked all around the big sites (Giza, Valleys of Kings and Queens, Karnac, Luxor), rode a camel. All totally fine. I'd say do it while you can, as it's much harder with little one(s) in tow!

snowflake sorry to hear about your wisdom tooth. I'm a dentist so see a lot of them! One's gums are rather sensitive to pregnancy hormones, so what would normally be a little flare up can be worse in pregnancy. Paracetamol, hot salt water mouth rinses, good oral hygiene and corsadyl gel are all fine in pregnancy and really will make a difference if you are in pain. If the pain is from a lower one, a lot of the pain can be from the top one biting the gum over it. In this instance I usually take the top one out: 99 times out of 100 it's quick and easy ("like shelling peas" we say in the trade) and can put off having the lower one out for ages, if not forever. With top ones coming through it's unusual to get much trouble, though they can grow towards your cheek and make it very sore. Then the only option really is to have it out. I'd really suggest that if it needs to go you get it done asap: treatment is easiest in the 2nd trimester and certainly easier for you to organise than with a baby in tow. An xray will be required. Under normal circumstances a full mouth or "panoramic" xray would be taken. When pregnant I would not take one of these unless we knew 100% that we had to take out the lower one. For an upper one it should be possible to get the info required from a small intra-oral film. It takes a bit of skill for a dentist to do this, and it doesn't feel great, though if they take it after they give you the local it is far far easier.

Anyone here got cats? Mine is being slightly odd with me at the moment. A soon as I sit down she appears, hangs about, sits on my tummy for a few minutes then runs off again. She's generally quite attached to me, but this feels like she is sort of "checking in" more thoroughly!

sauvblanc21 · 16/04/2015 20:14

Hello everyone! I've fallen off for a few days - oops - super busy back at school BUT all the morning sickness has gone (hurrah!) so I'm feeling totally marvellous! Hope everyone else is well Smile
To the hungry ladies - oh god yes. In the old days, I could happily get to 11am on just a coffee but now NO WAY! Coco pops in bed, brunch bar on the way to work, toast at work, banana between lessons 1 & 2 and anything I can get my hands on at break time! RAVENOUS! Grin
Snow don't fret about lack of movements, I've felt nothing yet either (I'm 16+5), most of my recent first time mum friends started feeling movements around 19 weeks so thinking it may be some time yet for me Wink xxx

You all look rather comfy!

Meinthecorner · 16/04/2015 20:39

Welcome newbies!

I have pleny of maternity clothes but I am looking for floaty loose fitting knee length cotton skirts because my classroom is like a greenhouse. I didn't bother last time as I would have only needed it for a few weeks but yesterday has made me think again. However I can only seem to find tight fitting pencil or mini skirts. I have found this one www.seraphine.com/navy-fold-down-maternity-skirt.html but it's £40 and that's a bit steep and it's jersey too. Anyone seen anything?

Meinthecorner · 16/04/2015 21:25

sauv how was Iceland?

sauvblanc21 · 16/04/2015 21:36

It was AMAZING thank you corner - a pretty perfect holiday for a preggo I'd say! Especially a preggo geographer!
Very cold and snowy (YAY!) so wrapped bump up nice & warm, amazing sight seeing (glaciers, lava fields, waterfalls, black beaches, geysers and mud pools, volcanoes including thanks one that caused all the bother in 2010 Grin) but with plenty of sitting on my bottom on a comfy minibus too! In fact the minibus guides were a highlight for us - lovely, amusing Icelandic chaps! (Recommend geoiceland tours.) Lots of soup, fish, meat and hot chocolate - and as booze is v expensive I didn't miss that much either! It is an expensive place to visit but easyjet flights cheap and it was all worth it - loved it! Xx

Got to share some kicks with DH - he loved it and found it freaky in equal measure!

Speaking of sharing kicks with DH, anyone's libido still v low?

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 17/04/2015 04:47

Midnight I think your plans sound fine. By the time bump arrives we'll have done:

4 weeks: Spain
14-17 weeks: China and Hong Kong via Germany
26 weeks: Italy and Greece with work
28 weeks: Caribbean with my mum
31 weeks: France for BIL.wedding

Blush

DH is now starting to express reservations about the Caribbean trip. I'd ne going with my mum and hes now voiced that he's not keen Nome going that far away Sad . Any thoughts?

Sauv glad you had a fantastic time in iceland! Thought of you when we were in Yangshuo actually with the amazing karst landscape.

Been feeling flutters for a bit now and the occasional 'wet-fish-flop'. Nothing too distinct though. Have my 16 week appointment next week when I will be 18+2 - do they listen for the heartbeat at that one?

lovesmycake · 17/04/2015 08:11

I agree midnight no reason not to travel we will be flying home for 3 weeks when i'm 33 weeks so flying back at 36 weeks which is the cut off. If i remember rightly I felt uncomfortable wherever I was so I might as well be with family and friends or on the beach as sat on my sofa!!

Plus looking forward to going to diggerland and legoland with DS and spoiling him rotten before his little sister comes along :)

TheMidnightHour · 17/04/2015 08:26

Thanks for the votes of support for the travel :) I do keep wondering if everything will change after {insert milestone} but so far I feel much like I did at 6w - tired, a bit sick, but basically OK.

lastnight Totally envious of your travel schedule. Some amazing trips in there :)

It's difficult, isn't it? I feel a bit more responsible for staying in DP's comfort zone since I am carrying his much-longed-for child around, too. But it does feel like a last chance - after this, travel will never be the same again. I don't think I'd give up a Caribbean trip though.

Could you reassure him that it's not so long (and he'll be at work anyway I guess?), and they've got great healthcare (in case of an emergency), your mum will take care of you, you can skype him every night, etc? I heard on Radio 4 (on More or Less, even) that 94% of babies come at due date +/- 2w which reassured me for travel!

Fell off the thread. Just jumping back on.

Choccyhobnob · 17/04/2015 10:26

Treacle how do we edit the stats sheet? I can't see it on my laptop and can't edit it from my phone! Only just seen it for the first time and realised my date is wrong x

londonliv · 17/04/2015 11:23

bonzo my cat has been acting slightly oddly. She's gone from liking to lying on my belly to avoiding it at all costs. She is slightly temperamental anyway though so she might be going through her phase of preferring my OH to me...

midnight I wouldn't worry about the travelling to much. When my sister was pregnant she had to fly between Japan & London a few times for work. I think as long as everything looks ok & the dr is ok with it you are good to go - just take your medical notes.
I was away for most of March for work which OH wasn't too happy about - I think he just felt even more removed from the 'action' (so to speak!)

While I think of it, on the books front I really recommend Why Love Matters by Sue Gerhardt and Diary of a Baby by Daniel Stern. Both give great insight into the emotional life of babies and are on the reading lists of most psychotherapy courses. The diary one is a particularly gorgeous read - all in the baby's voice - very imaginative and moving.

mspfan · 17/04/2015 13:59

midnight and lastnight I'm jealous of your travel plans! Not sure we'll go on holiday before baby arrives as we went to Costa Rica at the start of the year. It feels a bit odd having nothing planned as I usually plan the next trip as soon as we're home!

I do have tickets for Glastonbury but in two minds about whether to go. I'll be 6 months then and not sure whether I'll be up to the amount of walking/standing that's required (if you've not been the site is massive - it would probably take about an hour normally to walk across it!). Has anyone else been to any festivals whilst pregnant and can offer any advice?

Treaclepie19 · 17/04/2015 14:34

Have you all seen the baby event on asda?
Says it starts tomorrow but I've just managed to order the tommee tippee video sensor monitor for £90 instead of £160.
