Morning!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 31/10/2006 11:36

I think it was giving children in a pushchair a sausage roll that was the real work of the devil. On a par with fruit shoots for pure iniquity according to the MN food police. Crikey I admitted to wearing dungarees on here once and I thought I was going to be stoned.

Slightly disappointed to find that I am 7.5 sheets today, that's a whole sheet bigger than when we started these toilet paper shennanigans two weeks ago. Turning into a biffer as I type!

I've developed an interesting pg symptom this week, namely fainting on public transport. I have an hour's journey to work on the bus and have to stand up all the way as it's packed (7.5 sheets obviously not enough to get the pg noticed and afford me a seat on the bus unfortunately!). After about 20 minutes I get hot and start getting blurry vision and hearing things like I'm under water and that's it. Takes about 30 seconds from feeling hot for me to hit the deck. I feel so rude asking for a seat but I think I might have to. I read today that as the umbilical cord is taking over about now, I am pumping much more blood around and losing more nutrients and water to the baby. I assume this is why I keep swooning in people's laps on the bus. Anybody else experiencing this?

Completely sympathise on the DH and clutter thing. He has boxes of utter rubbish that he hasn't unpacked from 2.5yrs ago. He just brings things home like leaflets and free magazines and woe betide anybody who suggests getting rid! I just chuck them away behind his back, he never notices.

Anyway, happy Toilet Paper Tuesday ladies! And happy Halloween!

largegingerpsychoandtonic · 31/10/2006 11:37

Aaaaah ds #4 has just fallen asleep in my arms as i mumsnet. Poor neglected thing....

largegingerpsychoandtonic · 31/10/2006 11:39

Ok am off to measure before i eat

Juicylucythe2nd · 31/10/2006 11:42

uuuummmm sausage roll. Just don't think about what's inside them they taste GREAT

I say, if you can't eat sausage rolls when you're pg when can you.

twelveyeargap · 31/10/2006 11:48

I almost fainted on Sat ngiht when I'd be standing for some time, SOH. Felt the ringing in my ears and knew I had to sit down. Wasn't on a crowded bus though... Poor you.

I would ask for a seat. I would tell them you're pg and that you've fainted a few times on the bus recently. Should be enough to stop any angry glares. It IS embarrassing though.

Just been to the loo to measure and walked out again having forgotten what I went in to do. Doh. Will do it after lunch.

largegingerpsychoandtonic · 31/10/2006 11:48

God damn it, now i can think of nothing but a bloody sausage roll. Pebble you have alot to answer for Tomorrow do you think we could start talking about something like fruit salad or grilled chicken?

Have just done the measure thing and am 8 sheets at 13+5. So ive gone up a sheet in 2 weeks, that sounds perfectly acceptable to me, clearly i can eat more.....Am off to get lunch now

cacaboo · 31/10/2006 11:53

Hello everyone, finally got a few moments to post and say hi! It's lovely reading everyone's chatter! It's fab to read about all the scans. I'm only 10 weeks and it's another 2 weeks to go, seems like an age.

Toilet Paper Tuesday - down to 6.5 sheets here, down 0.5 sheet from 2 weeks ago . Hope it's just cos I feel less bloated, not that something is wrong. I have been fretting, especially after a lot of symptoms disappeared at 8 weeks. Though a heavy cold has brought back lots of the tiredness and some of the nausea...

The sausage roll thing is making me laugh. DS has agreed to a "try new foods" sticker chart, much to my surprise. The plan is to have all sorts of food on there, to avoid him associating "trying new foods" with "mummy trying to get me to eat something that's likely to be yukky". However the first thing that went up on there was veggie sausage rolls which I was craving at the weekend! He has tried corn on the cob and homemade chicken korma since then....

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 31/10/2006 11:55

Ooh a nice hot sausage roll fresh from the oven, flaky pastry, slightly spicy sausage. Mmm. We really need to start talking about salad!

redkennedy · 31/10/2006 11:56

Hello ladies! Ive just discovered this thread from the pregnacy board. Im due May 17th according to various hocuspocus soothsaying websites. Im 11 weeks (first child) this week, got my first scan next Wednesday and while Im v v excited, am also shitting myself about it as I have so many worries about what damage Ive done to my tiny space-prawn. Was on holiday in Malawi (no im not Madge) when I conceived and was taking malaria tablets (although apparently not the ones that def cause defects, just ones that are 'untested so therefore unknown') plus drank approx a bottle of wine every single day before I found out at 8 weeks, plus went to 2 music festivals and got well and truly 'involved' for days on end plus have been sedated for minor operations, had a frickin X ray and JUST ABOUT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING ELSE you can think of that youre not supposed to do when youre with child. So i spend half my time elated and excited and skipping about and then I remember all the things Ive read about all the damage you can do in the first formative weeks when all the important parts are being formed and how many things I threw at the poor bugger, how much wine and gin Ive practically poured down its throat and how I might not know about all of this until its born and how on earth would I deal with that. Jesus, I fell pregnant by accident, but im 31 and theres no way I would do anything but go ahead and have it. But the DP was and still is in shock to a certain extent, it ownt really sink in for him til he hears and sees it on the scan.. oh jesus Im rambling now, but what I spose Im trying to say is can you tell at 12 weeks on the scan if youre child has birth defects? Has anyone else here been through this worry & guilt? its driving me mad and I cant do ANY work xx

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 31/10/2006 11:56

Ooh limp lettuce and soggy cucumber.

Nah can't do it.

I want a sausage roll!

MKG · 31/10/2006 11:59

Hey I'm up early.

I don't know what you gals call a sausage roll, but here it's an italian thing (like a calzone) with marinara sauce, cheese, and sausage wrapped in pizza dough goodness.

Well Happy Halloween. I hope you guys didn't get mischiefed last night. We didn't. Do you even have mischief night?

As it turns out I have scan #2 today. I called yesterday to see if I could have my appointment changed (even though I was originally told Friday was the earliest). I figured since the hospital is 30 minutes away and I have to go to for a Halloween parade anyway I should try to change my appointment. Hopefully today they can tell me if the hemorrhage is for real or not. I can't stand the waiting.

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 31/10/2006 12:03

No experience really redkennedy but there have been LOTS of posts on MN about this ie 'I've just found out I'm pg and I've been doing all sorts of thing I shouldn't' and there are always lots of responses saying yes I did this too and my baby is fine. Nobody to my recollection has ever replied and said yes I did all those things and the baby has a defect. My best friend didn't find out she was pg until 16 weeks and had been having a hell of a time up to that point (binge drinking, partying and taking malaria tablets). Her little girl is fine! Tell your midwife exactly what your concerns are and they will do everything possible to check you out as soon as they can.

Most importantly, congratulations- we're due on the same day (mummymelling due on the 17th too). This is my first too and I am terrified and excited in equal measure.

I have every confidence that you will be fine. Looking forward to getting to know you over the next 6 months and you'll get lots of support from us all I'm sure. Now go and wrap yourself in toilet paper!

redkennedy · 31/10/2006 12:07

Ok Ive been scrolling through but cant find the toilet paper thing - i imagine youre measuring your bump (im sharp me, oooh) but how low are you doing it? I could be anything between 8 sheets and a family pack depending on what part Im measuring...

cacaboo · 31/10/2006 12:19

redkennedy, Congratulations and welcome! I'd agree with everything SOBASH has to say about talking to a midwife etc. As for bog roll, I'm just doing the toilet paper thing around my waist, aiming for the widest part.

MKG a sausage roll here is basically sausage meat wrapped in flaky yummy pastry. We can get Italian calazone too which I'd describe as a folded pizza. Yummy yummy. Now to decide on lunch...

charleymouse · 31/10/2006 12:31

Okay just been to the cafe across the road for a sausage roll and they had just sold the last one. I could even the see the flaky bits of pastry on the hotplate.
So I compensated with a custard/vanilla slice, you know that low calorie pastry, custard and iceing extravaganza.
Anyway I had just managed to catch up with the rest of last weeks chat and started on this weeks at leaving time from work and went home to a power cut, (off from 12.30 pm until 2.00 am this morning). DD thought it was brilliant and kept singing happy birthday to all the candles. Do you think I should throw all the meat out of the freezer? If so can I get anything back from the electric company, this happens so often where I live but last nights was a long one, we had one for about four hours a couple of weeks ago. I think I will just throw everything to be on the safe side.
Still can't believe it is two weeks for my scan. I am going away at the weekend and instead of enjoying the planning and holiday I am just wishing it was over so I could be nearer my scan date.
I will have to go and measure later I had stayed the same last week as the week before but now need to shake down a custard slice.
I sobbed through the Royle Family on Sunday night, didn't even have to blame pg hormones as it looked like DH welled up at a couple of bits as well. He was remembering how he used to have to wear his karate kit all the time to show people.
Anyway had better go as the only time I frantically type at work at the minute is when I am posting on here and I am getting funny are you sure you are working looks.

scootermum · 31/10/2006 12:35

Hi all,
SOBASH, I had a faint spell on the tube yesterday evening as well.It was rush hour on the Northern line though and thats faint inducing at the best of times..Horrid feeling isnt it?
My DD has just discovered her ability to stand up in her cot.So now she wont go to bed and was up till 10 last night crying, very tired but constantly standing up.I would go in to lie her down, she would stand up.She thought it a very funny game.I did not.I am a bit fatigued today I have to admit and am interviewing potential new staff all day which I hate. They all give nearly the same answers and its sooo dull asking the same questions 10 times..I will fall asleep, I know it!
I only measure 8 sheets today but I think thats cos ive been pretty sick this week.11 weeks tomorrow.Scan still ages away.It doesnt seem real except if im not pg I must be seriously ill what with feeling as tired as an 80 yr old woman and the sick etc..Told visiting BIL last night as he lives in Boston and we wont see him again for months. His first reaction was, 'are you mad?'.Which really upset me and Im not really sure why, other than that im an emotional wreck at the mo..I suppose he has a point with dd being little and all, but its been done before hasnt it?Or really am i mad to contemplate it?My friend from my antenatal classes with dd keeps saying she 'wouldnt have another baby so soon'.She thinks im mad as well.Still too late now I suppose...

Redkennedy -Welcome and dont worry about what you've been up to so far..There is no point in it as you cant change it now anyway and it will surely all be fine..If its any comfort I went to the v festival in what I know now to be the early weeks and drank myself silly. And one or two parties after that. And when not pg I live on rare meat and blue cheese and I didnt knock those on the head till quite late this time...

12yeargap-have you a temp house sorted now then did you say?Or are you still looking?

Whats wrong with sausage rolls then,in moderation? And please no one kill me, but whats wrong with fruit shoots?Ive never had one or examined one closely and am intrigued..Ive heard people say they are bad on here before but I darent ask why..

Am off to shops at lunch to buy a)sausage rolls of course now, b)Sweets for trickers tonight.DH maintains he wont open the door, killjoy, but I fear eggs will be thrown if he doesnt relent and join in!

Sorry, this was quite long wasnt it?

Juicylucythe2nd · 31/10/2006 12:39

Redkennedy - third what SOBASH said. A friend of mine took ecstacy w/o knowing she was pg and gave birth last week to a lovely healthy baby girl. (She also drank and smoked all the way through her pg and ate literally EVERYTHING on the no go list - not that I'd recommend THAT!)

I think they see most problems at 20wks, but I may have that wrong. You may just find you get extra scans and checks.

Toilet paper today: Waist is 7.5sheets (Was 7 2 wks ago). Stomach is 8. (Don't know what it was 2 weeks ago)

MKG · 31/10/2006 12:46

scooter,

You know how I stopped ds from standing up and. This is kinda mean, but I didn't help him. I have a monitor where I can see him. Anyway I would watch him fall back and hit his head over and over until one day he said "forget this" and I watched him reach down and get himself down. My sil is going through the same thing and I told her my advice and she said I was cruel.

twelveyeargap · 31/10/2006 14:15

Still 8.5 sheets...

Welcome redkennedy. Don't worry about what you've been up to. My friend went on a hen weekend and was naughty whilst in the clubs and her baby was fine.

Scootermum, still looking for a temp apartment. Just went all the sodding way to Docklands at lunchtime, saw a flat, said I'd take it and now the landlord says he already has someone interested. Should know in an hour if it's going to the other person. I'm sooo bored of this.

largegingerpsychoandtonic · 31/10/2006 14:44

Poor you tyg must be hell trecking round looking at places

Dont worry red i was very badly behaved before i found out i was prg with dts they are fine! You can tell quite alot at the 12 week scan and even more by 20 weeks.

I went to the fridge for lunch and found some sausage rolls the little snack ones, i get them for lunchboxes ( i had to make 4 this morning as ds #3 has started staying for lunch now!) i was so pleased, and munched 2 then had 2 ryvita with cottage cheese and was still hungry so had a pot noodle. How bizzare a lunch is that! Prg makes us mad.

Glad im not doing the fainting thing, i get a bit wobbly sometimes, things go black and starry but i dont actually faint. Perhaps you should start wearing a crash helmet?1

largegingerpsychoandtonic · 31/10/2006 14:45
