Hello everyone.

I'm 23 weeks now and had my scan 2 weeks ago - it's a girl! I really thought it will be a boy, so great surprise. All measurements were ok as well thankfully.

My boobs went from 34B to 34D at least a month ago..thankfully now stopped growing, as don't want to buy any bigger bras..:)

Funnily enough italian relative (my boyfriends) asked how many kilos I gained, I said 6-7 and she said it's too much!! The doctors though don't even care here how much you weigh, my midwife just measured my belly. Of course I had to start to check what is the normal weight gain, but all seems normal. 7 kg is 15 pounds....

Went to mothercare as well to check buggys, might go for silver cross wayfarer or pioneer...but still checking other options. Too many options out there. I live also first floor so don't want to think how I will be dragging the buggy up and down every day!!! :0 The sales assistant was so lovely though and kept giving me random tips about everything...Probably can't remember now half of the things.

I am still torn between moses basket or putting my baby straight to the cot to sleep. I just find it's a bit pointless to buy so many things that after 6 months you don't need.

Anyone going to the babyshow in birmingham? I booked tickets for 16th May and will go and check it out. Someone mentioned me she saved quite a bit of money by buying things there as everyone are giving you some discounts.

My yoga teacher is studying hypnobirthing and has been telling how amazing it sounds. I don't know anything about it, but will check now.

Fanby - are you trying to learn to drive as well? Me too, but seriously, every single time I try to read something, I get bored and haven't really done much studying. I guess I will just book some driving lessons, but I do doubt as well if I can manage to get my licence before the baby is born. I thought worst case scenario, I will try to do as much as I can now and hopefully can finish next year.

Frolicacid - so sweet re your dog...I wish I could have one! Love dogs.

Anyway, enjoy your bank holiday weekends!

mzzzf · 02/05/2015 17:52

Oh OMC that sounds totally pump! Poor you! Has no-one rose at work ever been pregnant or are you the first?

How lovely about the birth of the new princess! I'm hoping they don't use the baby gutless name that I've already got picked out - I'll be gutted!!

DH has been a real doll today, treated me to a lovely lunch out and bought some very sweet baby clothes together too. I'm feeling the same re getting the house in order but for me, it's more about having a clear out/deck utter as we move one week after my EDD.

Enjoy your weekend folks and welcome annike

Redsparklyshoes · 02/05/2015 20:54

Hi everyone!
Lovely to see the new Royal Princess today. Kate looked stunning as expected and of course I said to DH about ensuring my hair and make up artists are on hand after I give birth and of course ensuring my designer dress and heels are ready! Wink
DH has gone out with the boys to watch the fight and I'm enjoying feeling baby boxing inside my tummy! Smile
Feeling good today and really hope it continues!!
Happy BH weekend! Flowers

sianihedgehog · 02/05/2015 21:57

dillydolly my cats are MADLY IN LOVE with my bump lately. Although it's really less endearing than it sounds, as the massive ex feral one has taken to sitting on the bump instead of my lap, and I can't see the telly over him. The little one is REALLY REALLY determined to sleep on the side of my bump when I'm on my side in bed, which is horribly uncomfortable. If I shove her off she waits until I'm asleep and then wakes me up to tell me that she really really loves me and needs a cuddle right now.

Frolicacid · 03/05/2015 08:23

Good morning!
I survived the journey yesterday with only a few puke stops. Took bump to his first gig last night. It was loud and sweaty, but we hung out at the back and had a good time. He only woke up for a bit os sub base right at the very end. We saw so many friends there and it was really strange being sober whilst everyone else was hammered. It's quite nice to wake up without a hangover this morning. My legs are very achey.

Welcome annike. Good luck to you and fanby with learning to drive.

Sorry work is difficult OMC. Get your response in ASAP and show them you don't deserve this crap.

Sounds like you had a good day yesterday mzzf. Did you buy anything nice? We're doing some shopping today.

Your cats sound like hard work dilly! And lots of fun.

Have a good Sunday everyone. We've got a busy day of shopping and catching up with friends. A bit of a change from my usual position on the sofa Smile

Dozygirl · 03/05/2015 14:55

Sounds fun frolic . I must admit to not enjoying nights out as much now I'm preggo even though I used to be more than happy to go out and not drink plenty of times when not pregnant. Think it's the feeling fat and tired aspect that makes me not enjoy it as much maybe.

I've been a busy bee this weekend painting the nursery. It's all finished now. Just needs all new carpet fitting then I can start thinking of how I want to jazz it up to make it look like a baby Room. I am no good at interior designing though at all.

Feeling slightly concerned because I tipped the gloss all over myself by accident and the only way to get it off was with white spirit and now I'm worried that I've harmed the little baby! I'm sure it'll be fine and I can feel her moving about still but it probably hasn't been pleasant for her to smell it. It's so easy to forget you've got something inside you that needs looking after too. I should have got dp to do the glossing but my inner control freak wanted to do it myself haha.

My wee dog used to sit on my bump when I was pregnant last time. He used to get really surprised at the kicking. He's even more pissed off now that what used to be the bump follows him around trying to cuddle him! Poor dude hasn't had a look in with this bump. It's in use as a trampoline most of the time now!

mzzzf · 04/05/2015 19:55

WOWZERS ladies the bank hol is almost done - that was quick!!

DH had a definitive 'father to be' moment today and we ended up in Mamas & Papas. They were wonderful in there! We ordered our car seat, base, buggy and buggy accessories in one go. They let you order with a 25% deposit so that now we can just chip away at it until nearer the time rather than laying out lump sums. Clearly their stuff isn't dead expensive but having control over the spending for big items like that is awesome. Also it's a giant relief to have 'done' the decision making and ordering, phew!!

How was everyone else's weekend?

ChanceBeAFineThing · 04/05/2015 20:56

We've had a busy weekend sorting out house and garden, sadly nothing baby related though. And one of my DC has had a snotty nose all day and has a couple of spots so dreading tomorrow morning and whether it'll be full blown chickenpox. It would be really annoying if it is.

dillydollydarling · 04/05/2015 21:53

Although I was working both days over the weekend, it was pretty successful! We've ordered our nursery furniture and OH was telling me what he plans to do with the nursery. Furniture arrives on Wednesday!!!

I also got a massive bargain today. Two bags of really decent maternity clothes for £20. Must be at least 6 or 7 pairs of jeans, several tops, a nice dress and a few jumpers! All from places like next, new look and even a couple of red herring items! Grin

happygojo · 04/05/2015 23:00

Me and my OH have had a super busy weekend. We redecorated the living room which previously had a 'feature wall' of oppressive massive flowery wallpaper that was badly put on and peeling (as well as hideous IMO). So Saturday was a full day of stripping wallpaper and filling, Sunday was all about painting (although I was pretty broken and achey so got relieved by SIL and her bf and sent to buy sweeties). And today has been all about building new furniture and hemming curtains. The room looks amaze balls now (IMO) so happy. Only babies room to go now decorating wise but that's just the box room.
dozy the smell of gloss makes me gip! But I am sure it's fine and bubs wouldn't have noticed. I am using pregnancy to get out of gloss painting though muhahaha!

Back to work tomorrow.... I could do with another weekend!

Ooh I also bought my 'cheeky wipes' and 3 bottles (just in case and for hopefully feeding expressed milk after a few weeks). 14 weeks til EDD! Scary!

pinkie87 · 05/05/2015 08:30

Looks like everyone had pretty good and productive weekends!! I have a cold so didn't really do much! Did some shopping yesterday but walked around for too long and ended up in pain with my hip again so headed home with only a changing mat and a little basket to keep nappy bits in.

DH is away all this week on a training course with work so I'm feeling a bit lonely and wishing the week away already. The weather doesn't really help! I also think work's about to get a lot worse as one member of staff has left and the locum meant to replace her has decided not to stick it out, so pretty short staffed. Ah well! Only 13 LONG weeks to go!

Hope everyone has a good day!

dillydollydarling · 05/05/2015 11:44

I'm still completely undecided about when to go on maternity leave. Ideally I'd like to stay until 37 maybe 38 weeks but I really don't think its realistic for me to be on my feet for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week when I'm 37 weeks pregnant!! I think I'm the first person in work to have got pregnant so they don't have much experience with this and as this is my first, I can't imagine how I'm going to feel tomorrow, let alone in 14 weeks time!!

annike82 · 05/05/2015 13:10

Dillydollydarling - me too, I was thinking to work until mid August (baby due end of August). I guess it's fine to say you work until 37-38 weeks and if gets too hard, you can always tell your employer you need to go home earlier? At least this is what I am planning

happygojo · 05/05/2015 13:28

I am finishing the Thursday before I hit 36 weeks, having a week of leave and then my mat leave starts officially when I am 37 weeks. However, from 33 weeks I am using leave in order to do a 3 day week and OMG I can't wait! I am not struggling too much but already feel like I am winding down and in some ways I feel like I have been 'written' off as useless already. I don't really mind though. I finish on the 9th July.... (which is 65 days 2 hours and 32 minutes.... not that I am counting)

Fanby · 05/05/2015 16:12

Sounds like everyone had a really good, busy bank holiday! We also did a 'baby' shopping trip over bank holiday, IKEA (bought a chest of drawers to double up as a changing top), and also popped into Mothercare and Mama's and Papa's, we still haven't found a cot that fits the room and i'm becoming slightly obsessive over it. We had a little look at prams but to be honest there was soooo much choice we both got a little scared! So well done you mzzzf which travel system did you go for??

Hi annike82!! Yep, just started driving lessons, I had 10 about 12 years ago and didn't get very far!! The first one went ok, it's my confidence that I think will be the problem!! He did make me go round a roundabout which I never got to in all my previous lessons so that was new! I haven't done any reading or my theory so I need to crack on with that. I figured i'd try and get as many lessons under my belt now, take a break and then restart post baby. I've given myself a deadline of Christmas, DH wants me to pass by August – i've told him not likely!!

Hope you're having a better day at work today OMC, don't let the other secretaries get you down!! They sound like a bunch of unsympathetic dooches.

Frolicacid · 05/05/2015 16:33

dozy, I know exactly what you mean about feeling fat and tired! Everyone looked so lovely on Saturday night, and I just felt like a big blob who was more excited about bedtime than anything else!
I hope the nursery's looking good. I'm sure the gloss won't have done any harm.

Looks like you've all had busy weekends doing diy. I'm envious of all your motivation. Our house has barely been cleaned, let alone anything else in recent months. Hopefully the nesting instinct will kick in soon.

We have, however, done loads of shopping for him this weekend. I suspect we may have way to many blankets and babygro's now! But what the hell, it was so much fun choosing Smile.

I hope your cold is better pinkie. Sorry your DH has to work away. Take it easy.

I'm finishing work at 36 weeks. The first two will be annual leave and then my maternity starts about 12 days before edd. I've found it difficult to decide what to do. I work in the community and cover a large area and think all the driving will get a bit much by then. But I didn't want to 'waste' mat leave before baby arrives. Splitting it with annual leave is hopefully a good compromise.

I'm so tired today after our weekend away. And I'm really sore. Not sure if it's the traveling or ifs bump is having a growth spurt, but I feel really uncomfortable. I think I'll go to bed as soon as I get in tonight!

pinkie87 · 05/05/2015 16:50

Thanks frolic. Sorry you're feeling sore and uncomfortable!

I'm taking annual leave from 36 weeks and starting mat leave on my EDD. Could do with starting now really - wondering how on earth I'll make it to 36 weeks when I'm already falling apart at 23+4!

sianihedgehog · 05/05/2015 18:17

I've got a desk job and an understanding boss, so I'm working up to a week before the EDD. My work have agreed that I can carry over this year's annual leave to the end of my maternity leave, as we've been understaffed for about 3 years in my department and the later I work, the more chance there is that they'll have hired people before I go. They might even manage to get someone in to cover my maternity before I leave!!!

mzzzf · 05/05/2015 21:28

Fanby I didn't buy a specific travel system but kind of made my own up. We've gone for an armadillo XT flip buggy, no carrycot though just a newborn cocoon. And we've got the pebble plus seat from maxi cozi with the isofix base, which is grand as the base will last for the next stage up car seat and the car seat can fit on our buggy too. We decided on getting different stages car seats rather than a 0-4yrs one as I wasn't convinced by the 'guarantee' that it would be comfortable for newborns and toddlers and as we're planning on having more than one we will be able to reuse the first stage seat etc for the next one.

Feels strange thinking about number 2, when number 1 isn't even here yet!!! Anyone else feel like that??

Dozy I'm sure LO is grand in there, is your skin ok?

Pinkie hope you're not feeling too lonely. My DH works away less often but for large chunks of time, so I know what you mean. I always use the time away to do the things I like that he doesn't i.e. Watch trash TV, eat peanut butter and hog the entire bed Grin

Argh less than 12 weeks to go until edd!

Frolicacid · 05/05/2015 22:03

Less than 12 weeks mzzf? Yay!!!! I'm on 15 and a bit, so a bit further behind.
I can't believe that you're already thinking of number 2!! The way I feel at the moment (sick, tired) I'm never doing this again Smile

Has anyone noticed kicks getting stronger and more regular recently? I'm 24+ 4 and over the past few days it feels like his little feet have really grown. He also feels a lot busier, but I suppose that could just be me feeling him more. Some of the kicks are really making me jump! And she can finally see any feel them as well.

Dozygirl · 05/05/2015 22:14

I've noticed kicks and wriggles getting much stronger. Takes me by surprise sometimes! And she seems to sometimes to be kicking really really low down and then suddenly be higher up. Must have loads of room to move at the moment.

I'll be finishing work at 34 weeks by taking 2 weeks annual leave and then maternity kicks in at 36 weeks. I'd love to work till later but I've seen how much everyone else who's pregnant has struggled so I know from experience that it's just not the kind of job that u can keep going till the bitter end. And tbh it'll be July so I'm quite looking forward to having some time relaxing in the sunshine and spending time with people before my whole life gets turned upside down Haha.

My next decision to make is whether to take 9 months or a year off. If I take a year I'm going to have to rely on dp to give me money to survive off which my independent self will find very strange. I've been my own person since l went to uni at 18, and me and dp have only been together for 2 years so we still have our own money and own accounts etc so it's hard to think about sharing it. But he seems happy to help as long as I properly work out what I'll be spending on bills etc and what I'll need for spends so hopefully we'll be able to come to an agreement. If I took 9 months i wouldn't need as much from him but for 12 months I would.

Good luck to everyone searching for prams etc. It's such a mind field out there. I still haven't decided on a car seat yet.

OP posts:
pinkie87 · 06/05/2015 08:18

Thanks mzzf. It's not too bad really as I'm working all day then quite busy with chores/dinner etc when I get home, it's more when I go to bed, I'm not the best at falling asleep on my own (silly I know!). Can't believe you've only got 12 weeks! So jealous, I've still got 16!

Frolic I'm a bit behind you at 23+5 but kicks have definitely been getting stronger. I keep thinking back to only a few weeks ago when I was still not quite sure if I could feel anything or whether it was wind! Now I'm getting proper kicks, and often quite high up and obvious to feel from the outside now. It's lovely really, although I'm sure when he gets bigger and his feet are sticking under my ribcage I'll take that back!

Fanby · 06/05/2015 12:28

Ah that's good to know mzzzf about mixing and matching on the pram/buggy/car seat malarky!!
DH and I have briefly spoken about number 2 (talk about preempting!) just in terms of thinking when we're buying stuff, oh I wonder if this will still last for no. 2 etc...

Weirdly I think my kicks have become less intense! I don't know whether it's because i'm used to them now? She did kick throughout the whole of yoga this morning (best class yet actually!!), I swear it was in time to the music lol!!
