Afternoon

Debbsy - sorry I missed you again last night, I went christmas shopping!! (BTW for anyone who is interested, www.hawkins.com have some great cheap stocking fillers ) By leakage I meant waters, but increase in discharge and obviously the show/mucus plug, are other good signs! I tried the monitors today and they work brilliantly!!
Purpleluce - I think I have been on every night for the last two and half weeks well past 1 o'clock, and if I haven't been on MN I have been on other sites! It goes unbelieveably quiet on here over night, sometimes 15 minutes+ goes by with out someone posting, and that post is mostly on threads that I am not interested in!!
Stacey - glad to see you back, if only quickly! Fingers crossed your midwife will give the go ahead for an induction, same applies re. emailing me if you ever want to off load.
Tinasan - many congratulations on your new little girl, I hope she has settled in well, hopefully you will get a break again soon to give us all a catch up!
Debz, keep us updated, it sounds like things could be starting for you
Harrogatemum - it seems that the experts seem to think that it makes no odds how much pain you are in, as long as it isn't labour, they don't have to get their hands dirty I had this exact same conversation with the consultant this morning, but they have me over a barrel because of the homebirth. Hopefully, it won't last much longer! If you are worried that something else might be causing the contractions, try to be brave and put your foot down with them, you shouldn't be left to get on with it in these circumstances!
Eeyore, I hope things are starting for you, maybe the feeling a bit down yesterday was the calm before the storm?!!

Consultants went perfectly fine this morning, he has given the go ahead for the home birth. As I said we had a few words, he was telling me off for not taking the pain killers, I was telling him off for dismissing me with a bloody prescription. ...Oh well I am sure it won't be him awake to all hours tonight!

Midwives came for me to sign the form and go through everything again, they said the equipment will be dropped off some point in the next week (I will be 37 weeks next Wednesday and obviously need it here for then) and she said the pharmacy will ring me about delivering the gasses and drugs at some point. I have my next appointment with them on Tuesday Every week from now on

harrogatemum · 01/11/2006 15:55

NExt MW appt is actually tomorrow back at the antenatal clinic at the hosp but I dont hold out much hope for them investigating any further, it will just be the blood pressure, urine checks and fetal heart heard and on my way, no doubt!

Just got to hope that next time this happens, it is the real thing - one day I will go into hospital adn come out with another baby!

40Weeks · 01/11/2006 16:19

Its so annoying how quick ths docs are to intefere when they dont really need to but arent interested when its necessary! Maybe it should be, Doctors are from Mars, Patients are from Venus.

My girl is 100/60 bad for your BP then - mine is about the same at times but they seem to think this is fine?

Charleesunnysunsun · 01/11/2006 16:44

Afternoon.

I have had the worst day today so sorry in advance for the moan.

I went to my parent classes which was great except i was having some real strong contractions all through it, i grinned and bared it.
I then walked to my midwife appointment and the usual 10 minute journey took an hour and i arrived in agony unable to walk in hysterics.

My midwife said 'its just spd very common i can't do anything' completley no sympathy, i know she can't do anything but a poor you or something to the lady in hysterics in her office would have been nice.
She also said the bavies head is completley free not engaged at all so i don;t know who to belive as 2 days ago it was fully engaged ready to go.

I asked her how i would know i was in labour when im still having really strong contractions, she said 'you'll just know' and told me not to bother her in future paging if i had any questions just to ring labour ward.
She will see me in 2 weeks. I nearly crawled out her office to meet dp struggling with a screaming ds, i was a wreck.

I got home to find one of our chickens had died
My sister phoned to say my mum had colapsed in the g.p's surgery so she was being checked out and coming home to rest so could i have the house sorted. (she's ok just on strict bed rest she's very over worked)

Then i went in to find my mum's puppy had trashed the house, ripped the washing up, tipped coffee all over the p.c and smashed several cups, emptied the bin and ripped up all our important documents.

I sat down on the sofa and cried.

Im in so much pain i don;t know what to do with myself, i have got dp home from work as i can't physically lift ds. Im looking after my mum aswell and i have just managed to tidy the house slightly.

So all in all im completley beaten down feeling crap

40Weeks · 01/11/2006 16:47

Oh Charlee thats awful - you poor thing. Lots of sympathy coming your way. If I could make you a cuppa and help tidy I would

fatbetty · 01/11/2006 16:47

I'm so glad to hear that many of us are feeling the same - ie. very uncomfortable and just fed up with pregnancy. I know some people who are several weeks behind me and are loving their pregnancy....I suppose I was then too.

I didn't know whether to ask my midwife tomorrow if I should be tested for GBS. I didn't know if there was a sign that they look for to test for it or not. It sounds so common and slightly surprised that they don't test for it more.

40Weeks · 01/11/2006 16:54

FB have you googled it to see what makes them test for it - not even sure what it is myself but if you are worried then just tell your midwife - she can probably explain it and let you know why they havent tested so far?

God my ankles are huge, I have just peeked at them under my trousers. I feel like an old lady.

bcsnowpea · 01/11/2006 17:06

Poor Charlee! The world just isn't being nice to you right now, is it? Well, big hugs and A LOT of well wishing!

FB- I'm actually surprised that it's not a routine test in the UK. The GBS swab takes less than a minute to do, and it seems like such a big deal if the baby catches it, whereas no probs at all if you're treated. My recommendation is to ask for it, but it's your choice of course.

My doc has said that my hours awake on Sat were contractions, so she's pleased that my body is gearing up, and will do a membrane sweep at my next appointment. Can anyone tell me what that's like?

staceym11 · 01/11/2006 17:39

oh charlee i hope you feel better soon! just remember your not the only one (not that that makes it feel much better!)

well midwives was fine, she had sympathy for hysterical crying tired pg woman sat in front of her but said as this is a low risk pg they wont induce me, not unless i get to 42 weeks!!! they may do a membrane sweep at 40 weeks tho.

baby is 3/5 so getting there slowly, midwife felt tightenings and said that even if they not opening cervix they all helping build up oxytocin levels in the blood so i dont feel so bad about it. she told me to drink the Raspberry leaf tea (uuurrrggghhh) to help the contractions do something and try and rest (with a 2 yr old at home on my own?!?!?!) and il be fine apparantly. she kept suggesting home birth but as i live in different district and still want baby at old hospital she understood why i didnt. but she did give a little nugget of info away, apparantly the hospital im going to now has a new 'birthing unit' and if i go onto labour ward and all is ok i can go to midwife led 'birthing unit' and have a cosy room where dh can stay overnight, sounds good to me!!!

oh and congratulations tinasan so sorry you had a bad time but welcome beautiful baby elena.

purpleluce · 01/11/2006 18:02

Charlee what a miserable cow and crap day, sorry to hear it. My understanding is that it is completely normal in 2nd and subsequent pregnancies for baby to engage and disengage or not to engage at all till last minute.

I am overdue now so officially can join your November gang but I also remember a 36/37 weeks session in tears at the doctor with backache and stomachache. I got sympathy thankfully which is what was needed so really feel for you experience today.......hope you feel better soon

eeyoreuk · 01/11/2006 18:10

well i have taken the tens machine off as i thought the back pain had gone but it is still there just milder - so i am going to leave it a while and see what happens.

nj glad everythng is full steam ahead for your home birth

harrogate why not try and be an emotional wreck when you go in to the clinic we have all been blessed with these hormones i think we should try and start using them to our advantage

charlee i wish one of us lived closer so that we could come and help it is so frustrating for you and every hurdle you beat another is put in front of you. I am sending you lots of hugs and best wishes. Can your sister not help with your mum as well?

speak later hope everyones evening improves eeyoreuk

eeyoreuk · 01/11/2006 18:13

charlee sorry meant to say next time you have a bad bout of pain phone the labour ward as you have been told by the mw and tell them why you are ringing them and not paging her - it might get you better response but might also get her a kick up the a* as it sounds like she deserves it

eeyoreuk

harrogatemum · 01/11/2006 18:13

Eeyore - I think you are right - screaming loudly got me pain relief last night so I guess I could turn on the waterworks and say "I want the baby out NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!" and see what reaction I get!

Charlee - sounds similar to the pains that I was having....horrible isnt it? However I didnt have all the other nightmares that you had so big hugs to you.

Just sat here wearing a childs Thomas the Tank Engine apron typing on my laptop - what a sight........

eeyoreuk · 01/11/2006 18:20

harrogate how have you managed to get a childs apron on i am wearing dh fleece and that is xl taking into accct i am normally a size 10 and only 5ft tall if i put a childs apron on now it would cover my boobs and that would be it

On a lighter note it could be a bit of fun for a charity calender though heavily pregnant women with there bits being covered by childrens aprons and nothing else has anybody got any other ideas what the photos could be of? Lets see if we can have a giggle for a few messages at least

eeyoreuk

youngmum21 · 01/11/2006 18:26

thanks eeoreuk feel better now that you have sed that feels like im going to be pg foreva at the min and reading everyones else messages abut period pains and stuff i havent really had anything like that and soon we will be in to day 4and still no lo just really want to have and hold her now!!!!

Charleesunnysunsun · 01/11/2006 19:29

Thanks for all your kind words. I just feel so helpless i can't even look after my own child properly and that's the hardest thing. Im so used to being in control where i look after my mum alot of the time aswell as ds not being able to do anything at all really makes me feel bad.

I was just so annoyed with the m/w she had no sympathy or kind words what so ever if i were a m/w or dr and i had a hysterical woman in my office who couldn't even lift her toddler into his pushchair i would at least ring home to make sure someone was there to help her or offer some words of kindness, wouldn't you?

If i thought there was anything they could do i would have gone to hospital by now the pain is that bad but i don't think there is and i can't leave ds with my mum while she's not well, she's been told she's on the verge of another heart attack through sheer stress and overwork so i need to be here to make sure she rest's or i know she wont.

eeyoreuk the thought of a saucy pg lady calendar makes me PMSL! I't would be funny people expecting sexy poses only to open it to find a lady my size covered in stretch marks with a big bar of choccy and a tiny weeny t-shirt on that im using as a nighty sprawled on the sofa in front of Corrie!
Or how about an xmas one a normal lady would only need ballballs to cover her nips, i would need a whole xmas pudding for each!

Congratulations Tinasan sorry i forgot you in my earlier rant, i wish you all the happiness in the world with your new little bundle!

eeyoreuk · 01/11/2006 20:04

charlee glad i made you smile the october one would have to be two pumpkins.

youngmum it wont be long and we will both be having coffee showing off our little ones to each other

speak later eeyoreuk

calsworld · 01/11/2006 20:34

Well, its taken me a while, but I've caught up with you now on the aches and pains front....no BH here, thank goodness, that doesn't sound like much fun - but not having the energy to do the tidying and cleaning I know needs doing has suddenly really started to get to me.

I've found that writing lists is quite calming, even though I'm not crossing anything off them! MIL is coming this weekend so will ask DH to prepare her for a cleaning session - she'll be in her element!

Great idea about the calendar! My sister and I are having a competition - in her 2nd pregnancy her nips achieved a 10cm diameter - hold on, going to get a tape measure.....hah! I win! 12.5 cm at 36 weeks!! Think I'll be the one with the dinner plates to cover my boobs - hmmm what month could that be....

Congrats to Tinasan, I hope you're enjoying your little girl,

Charlee....hope your week gets better,

Love, C

CattyB · 01/11/2006 21:01

Sorry to hear you all sounding so miserable - your mw/docs all seem horrid - may they get their just rewards soon!!

HUGE Congratulations to Tinasan (although confused by dates - Thurs was the 26th) and Mummy2Toby so pleased to hear you have healthy babies. Started a post natal thread if anyone finds any time to post

Look forward to hearing all your birth announcements really soon... x

purpleluce · 01/11/2006 21:42

Ok following the calendar theme we could go for two catherine wheels and a rocket or one of those triangle fireworks in the obvious place for the November one.

Young mum - dont get disheartened, nothing has actually hapenned here yet, could be total fraud! (obv hope it will) but totally remember how it felt to go over with dd1 she was born at 41 + 1

Kif · 02/11/2006 00:18

Aww, hope you feel better soon Charlee!

saralou100 · 02/11/2006 04:11
