Charleesunnysunsun · 18/11/2006 11:25

FWIW NJ, when i started having xontractions in the hospital i completley blew them off as like you i had been having them on and off for so long but like you i knew they were a different feeling, it wasn't untill i started hopping off the bed with each one DP actually was the one that said, 'your in labour' i had subconciously been hopping about because they were painfull and pushing on my bum

It wasn't untill a good few hours i suddenly felt the oh my god im in labour feeling! I hope this is it for you.

NatalieJane · 18/11/2006 11:32

Thanks Charlee, but this has been going on since 5 o'clock last night, the longer it goes on with out any other signs or anything, the more I think it isn't labour and just my bodies new way torturing me in the last few weeks!! LOL

I was just saying on the other thread, I don't care how long it goes on for just as long as something happens soon enough to let me know if it is labour or not, it is the not knowing that is really frustrating.

Kif · 18/11/2006 13:12

Thanks for vote of confidence, guys!

NJ - wish you luck - hopefully LO with you soon. Recomend distraction and rest (and trying not to think about it) for as long as possible. If it's the real thing you'll know about it! I was contracting for two days ( that is - contractions that I felt were 'different'). I think that because it was so slow, I had an easier labour overall, because it was quite gradual and my body had time to adjust. So may be a silver lining to being slow burn!

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 18/11/2006 13:21

Hi NJ

You and I are due about the same time, so I don't know if it's any consolation but I'm getting something simular. Had a mother of a contraction last night and lots of little ones since - they are not regular, vary in intensity and are mainly indicated by one hell of a backache. I have no other symptoms and after staying in bed a little longer they started to ease. My Baby has dropped loads as well and I keep getting wobbly legs, baby is also a lot less active then of late (only 6 movements so far today). However I don't think I'm in labour, I don't feel the need to speak to a MW - in fact we're just about to go shopping. However I do have a headache and my backache is coming and going with varying intensity - still very irregular though - I've taken a paracetemol and hopefully I'll make it round Sainsbury's - if not - at least we'll get some free nappies, apparently.

Anyhow - keep you chin up NJ

and all the best to everyone
LA

NatalieJane · 18/11/2006 14:47

Thanks for the luck girls

I'm not feeling down about it, just wish I knew if this is it or not really. I have had a bath with the lavender and clary sage again, it has neither stopped them or intensified them, but I am feeling a bit sick again now. We are about to go and do a bit of a shopping and then see how things are, if much the same we will go to MIL's for a bit.

Catch you all later

DebbsyandBibby · 19/11/2006 10:39

Please look at my pg thread im a little concerned ..
nj anything?

NatalieJane · 19/11/2006 11:05

Nope, nothing happened . I felt really sick last night so just went to bed, woke up this morning and nothing, no contractions, no sickness nothing, I give up, this baby will come when it is ready, and until then I am taking no notice whatsoever of anything that happens until contractions get too painful to cope with or my waters break, or something else as definite.

Going to look for your thread now Debbsy.

DebbsyandBibby · 19/11/2006 11:13

nj sorry nothing has happened yet again you must be getting so cheesed off

NatalieJane · 19/11/2006 11:18

Cheesed off is not the phrase I would use, there is a whole loads more F's coming out of me this morning.

youngmum21 · 19/11/2006 11:22

hi all,

Hope you are all well?
Congratulations to all the new mummies!!!
Well lo is a week old to day cant believe how fast the time goes!!!
have given up breast feeding cudnt cope with it,was crying every nite cuz she wudnt feed even though every time the midwife came she latched on perfectly!!! typical!!! I managed aweek so she got the most important gudness i guess!!!

harrogatemum · 19/11/2006 17:16

where is everyone - are you all off giving birth?

If so -

Mummy2Toby · 19/11/2006 18:10

Hiya - just popping on to see if we have any more babies but nobody is around will check in again tomorrow

fatbetty · 19/11/2006 19:57

Just popping in too to say hi. I'm now two days over my due date and really frustrated. I've been drinking that raspberry tea and can feel a few twinges after having a cup, but nothing progresses. My in-laws are coming tomorrow and imagine they will stay until baby comes and past that. They did this when DS2 was born and I think I was so stressed out with them around (for 2 weeks!) that he had to be induced in the end. I'm convinced now that this LO will be induced too unless something happens tonight.

Hattie05 · 19/11/2006 22:18

Well....i've had a baby girl!!

Announcement here

'twas all very quick and we are all well, happy, sleeping, feeding and pooing! Just need to decide on a name thats all! .

After having several evenings of 10min braxton hicks and kept thinking it was the start of labour, but i kept telling myself i will know when its real - i can now catergorically say that yes YOU WILL KNOW!! to those of you still waiting . I woke with a contraction that was just so painful i was frozen to the spot until it eased off, and so i now realise they were definitely braxton hicks beforehand.

Those of you still waiting - i wish you lots of luck and fingers crossed for you all your babies come soon!!

DebbsyandBibby · 19/11/2006 22:38

ahhh congratulations Hattie on your baby girl tc x

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 08:00

Congratulations Hattie - well done

FoghornLeghorn · 20/11/2006 08:35

Well done Hattie - I'd appreciate one just like that but with time to get to the hospital too so if anyone could arrange that for today that would be lovely .

Due date tomorrow and had some very strong painful contractions last night, before waking DH up I decided to time them and see how they were going then they just stopped Seriously considering castor oil now as it's the only thing I've not tried apart from accupuncture.

DebbsyandBibby · 20/11/2006 09:32

good luck foghorn hope you are soon holding your baby in your arms.

Kaybee7777 · 20/11/2006 09:51

Morning
Congratulations to Hattie and good luck deciding on a name! Oh, and thanks for the tips on how to know when you're really in labour!!
I am now 40 + 1. Was really hoping that lo would make an appearance over the weekend but no such luck I had two curries, ate fresh pineapple, went for a walk, went shopping and still nothing more than annoying braxton hicks at night that disappear while I am asleep!!

calsworld · 20/11/2006 11:04

Congratulations Hattie, sounds like it all went well and good luck with the name choosing!

I've been to the consultant today and after a couple of weeks 'arguing' with idiot SHO's and Registrars, have been released back to midwife led care.

Turns out that not only did the last consultant (SHO) not have a clue what he was talking about but there are some errors in my notes - no wonder everyone keeps looking at me funny when I say how lucky we were to get pregnant quickly - my notes say I had fertility treatment....which I didn't... thank goodness it was nothing more serious they had wrong!

Anyway, so the good news is that I now get a full choice of where to have the baby - but then he offered me a sweep - today...or said I could wait until the mw appt on Friday...I know there are those of you who would like this done but I feel a bit lost - I'm not desperate to get it out yet (still don't feel ready) and don't know why they're offering it...how effective are they? how quickly do they / can they send you into labour? is it the same day - or up to a week later? As you can tell from the fact I'm writing this, I elected not to have one today - I'm only 38+3...though fundal is measuring 39.5....

What next guys? Do I have the sweep? As its a form of induction, does it make labour more painful? (this is #1 for me btw)!

HELP!

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 11:19

Calsworld, the sweep is nothing like a chemical induction, it won't make the labour any more painful, and it will only work if your body is really ready to go into labour. I wouldn't worry about the fundal measurement, it isn't an exact science and certainly doesn't mean you have a huge baby in there or anything, I think they would only really act on that info if it was a good 5-6 weeks out of line with the dates. Every week I have either been measured a week or two bigger and then a week or two smaller, then the next week back to bigger again, but every week it is recorded in my notes as an equals sign (=) obviously indicating that I am measuring equal to dates, so it really can't have that big a bearing on things.

IMO, and it isn't a scientific study or anything, but, nearly everytime someone mentions consultant and pregnancy the consulatant has really cocked up. In my first pregnancy the consultant couldn't get his head around the fact that my dates had been moved a week at the first scan (which must happen a lot of the time?), and so I was induced a week earlier than I should have been, and this pregnancy, because of the irritable uterus I had seen the consultant again, and he wanted to see me back there at term to discuss induction, but my m/w rang him while she was here and told him to bugger off really, that there was no reason for me to be induced at term (40 weeks) and she would send me back to him 42 weeks if needed!

I have lost the biggest, jelliest, greenest 'lump' of my show this morning and contractions are fairly regular, maybe two in a half hour but I am not getting my hopes up, I have put DH on a warning (so he won't go any further from home than he is now!!) but I think it will be another pointless day spent wondering 'is this it?'

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 20/11/2006 11:23

I can't keep up with all these new babies. A Friend of mine has just popped her second son as well - Saturday Morning at 2am - 8lb something - she hasn't decided on a name yet - she has whittled it down to two - one quite cool - the other makes us all pull a funny face - but it's her choice.

Still no developments here - had a few irregular contractions over the weekend - but think the pineapple must have worn off now as apart from nasty headache and nausea - nothing to report. Will have to take another paracetamol - it does the trick - but I am reluctant to use medicine as anything but a last resort as my belief is what are you going to do when you really need it! I'm also really thirsty for some reason - but of course the knock on effect of this is that I'm in loo every five minutes... Oh well a week to go now... exciting isn't it?

All the best everyone
LA

calsworld · 20/11/2006 11:42

LA - I'm having the same thing with thirstiness...want to drink all the time but am spending soooo much time in the loo - its getting quite tedious.

NJ - thanks for clarifying about sweep v induction...that makes it seem a little less scary.

Am getting very nervous about becoming a mum, from all angles really...getting through labour and looking after LO when they get here. I don't feel ready and a bit scared.

Am off the hairdressers this afternoon so at least one part of me will look OK in the post-natal photos!

DebbsyandBibby · 20/11/2006 13:25

calsworld and lann i feel exactly the same as you v scared and yet v excited and thirsty i drank 3 lites of water yesterday
good luck nj fingers crossed xx

Bethbe · 20/11/2006 13:42

Okay, I was due on Sunday, and think my waters broke on Saturday, but I'm really not sure. Does anyone know how you can tell?

I've been 'leaking' since then, - but it's VERY slow and although I'm fairly certain, - I'm not completely certain that it isn't bladder related! I only get a small patch of 'wet' in my knickers, but it usually leaks through to th trousers.

Don't wanna call the hospital unless I'm sure as they might call me in, and I've got a sofa being delivered tomorrow that I've been waiting for for 14 weeks!

Any advice?
