Welcome to the 13th April 2015 babies thread!

The stats thread is here and we have a handy spreadsheet here

If anyone wants to join the FB group who hasn’t already, PM me your email address and I’ll send you an invite!

We’re in the home stretch ladies, we've had the first baby, how many more threads can we manage before the last baby is here?

at the Royal Berkshire Hospital it was standard to do it at 38 weeks,
at the Royal Worcestershire Hospital they said they don't do it until 39 weeks unless medically necessary.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 16/03/2015 16:44

squatting that sounds much more fun than "stickers on a pre-bought hat" which is what we're basically doing! Do you have any photos of it? :D

rl literally it was all round the sink, up the tiles on the wall, over the top of the loo that's to the left of the sink, all over the corner of the bath that's the other side of the sink, on the floor, on the windowsill that's above the sink and there was stray hairs on the nappy bin which is on the opposite wall!!! I can't think a single hair made it down the plug hole O.o DH insists on hanging towels over the banister and they always end up covering the stair banister, and I end up throwing them off in a rage when DD can't then hold the banister, but at least they're hanging initially I guess, I'm the one in the house with a tendency to 'hang on the floor'

passes cinnamon spontaneous labour and runs away with something planned

I'm a bit in love with internet shopping, especially for the food, I find supermarkets very stressful!

rl there's no way of denying it, labour hurts, but some people make it through with breathing, and others need all the drugs there's no way of knowing how you're going to cope with it until you're in labour, but knowing what's going on and trying not to panic will greatly help with the pain, think of the end goal, having bump in your arms and it will be worth it!

LOL it probably fell apart, squatting

RL20 · 16/03/2015 17:38

Boo, are you married to a bear?! Grin

IvegotaCaveTroll · 16/03/2015 18:14

Going back a bit- moomin that was helpful - thanks

cinnamon crossing everything for you that you get a nice spontaneous labour! Keep running! Mop the floors, scrub on your hands and knees, have sex, never sit down unless its on a ball, twiddle those nipples, lots of curry, stairs... And more running!!!

Lauren82000 · 16/03/2015 18:42

Boo I once found DHs beard trimmings in DDs bed! Fair enough he occasionally uses his trimmer in her room which is the nearest plug but I found a whole clump not just a few strays and it was under her quilt! Shock

Only just got tea started for DD. I hadn't realised what time it was and she never complained she was hungry. Blush It'll be a bit of a later bedtime tonight I think as she needs a wash of some description I guess it'll be shower with no toys to try and get it down to 15mins. Least DH can help once he gets back from footy.

In the last 10 mins I'm feeling most uncomfortable, got some mild period pains low down.

RL20 · 16/03/2015 18:45

Random question of the night, when you start to get contractions, should you sit and relax (as much as you can, anyway!) or carry on walking around to ease the pain?
Which works best?
Me being a naive first timer, I would probably instantly want to sit down or lie down or something, but have heard it's better to walk around!

solstice930 · 16/03/2015 19:00

RL I would do whatever your body tells you! I found it most comfortable to be standing, leaning over something, like a table, kind of swaying a bit. Sitting wasn't comfortable at all, so it wouldn't have helped me rest or relax because I would have tensed up. But early on, there's normally a big gap between them, so rest up then if you want!

skyra13 · 16/03/2015 19:03

Midwife said to me to sit on ball or walk around to bring the labour on so it does not stop :) to get contractions closer together that's the advice I was given RL

daholster · 16/03/2015 19:17

I ended up on my side, then some walking, then kneeling/sitting by the side of my bed and kneeling up grabbing the quilt cover swaying when they were getting really bad!

Being upright/kneeling/walking helps baby get down in a better position and progress labour due to gravity and movement. I tried hard to kneel etc but still dd was back to back. This time I might try to walk more.

Lauren82000 · 16/03/2015 19:54

Mmm just polished off my Mother's Day chocolates with a little help from DH. Wink They are his favourites after all.

The cheese and bacon wrapped chicken went down very well so thanks for the tip. Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 16/03/2015 19:57

RL20 on the pain front I think labour is easier to cope with as its for a purpose and you feel it's getting you somewhere. My three broken metatarsals were much more painful, every time I went to put my foot down I blacked out.

Yep we had world book day, super hero day, Red Nose Day, mad scientist day this week, there's a yellow one too.

Everyone I've know have and elcs has always had them at 39weeks Underwood2013, but thats not necessarily for big baby.

Your body will tell you what to do RL20, I didn't want to be sitting or laying and mostly leant against something with my bum sticking out and waggling my hips for a contraction. The most active you can be the better for getting things going, look up active labour, it doesn't necessarily mean being mon your feet all the time. I couldn't bear to be laying down unless I was in the bath.

Thanks for the spontaneous wishes! I plan to keep running daholster, hoping it will help! Still having sex at least once a week and I walk 2-3miles a day, sitting is often on the carpet but do need to get Dh to blow my ball up. Will get Dh on to nipple twiddling job and add in some curries Grin

brummagem · 16/03/2015 19:59

I love how during pregnancy I can't take so much as a lemsip however when I get to hospital I'm allowed enough to tranquilise a marauding army of elephants.

Horrible night really uncomfortable lying on either side for too long stuck cushion between legs which didn't seem to do much either. Oh well.

No more spotting seen since and bump is still wriggling and jiggling demanding dinner so about to feed him a cheesy chip butty. Thank you for your comments x

Lauren82000 · 16/03/2015 20:27

Hmm bag of crisps or go up to bed? (My eyes are closing when I'm reading.)

Glad to hear no more blood brum. Did you ring the mw to ask about it or just rest and see how it went.

smogsville · 16/03/2015 20:29

Cinnamon I am trying to keep baby where he is, so will be doing the exact opposite! No shagging, nipple twiddling, currying, running etc Grin

Bloody knackered today I am so pleased I'm finishing work tomorrow. Actually to be more specific it's not tiredness exactly, more an inability to tube across London without dying for the loo whilst being feeling absolutely parched!

FiRaffe · 16/03/2015 20:32

Bed sounds a good plan!!!

The nursery is decorated so now to order the cot and get a wardrobe and a chair. Really coming together now!

Lauren82000 · 16/03/2015 20:35

FiRaffe I put the Moses basket up yesterday and got the car seat from my mums so although the house is more cluttered I feel much better about having stuff lying around if we need it. Enjoy buying/picking your furniture.

daholster · 16/03/2015 20:43

gem very glad all seems OK Smile

I am seriously concerned that my son is going to split the top of my uterus, omg!!! So much for staying upright and being on my ball all night I've resorted to lying on my left in the bed, the right sided rib pain through to my back is just too much without relieving the pressure, good grief!!! It was worse in the ball! May try hands and knees...

AnniaFausta · 16/03/2015 20:46

Evening all - not going to try to read back through the last dozen pages... things all quiet-ish here, although I'm feeling increasingly knackered and am currently wondering whether today's dose of loose tummy is due to the Turkish restaurant we went to yesterday for Mothering Sunday or an early labour symptom. As I said to DH when he came home, it'll become clear which it is within the next 24 hours, so at least I'll know before I'm due to commute to work on Wednesday morning!

RL20 · 16/03/2015 21:04

Thanks for advice RE contractions. Will bare it in mind, it sounds like standing/being active is the most favourable choice. (Can you tell I'm overthinking everything?!)
Will see tomorrow what position baby is in. Most recently he's been different at all of my midwife apps! Sideways, head down, breech, last week they didn't really say due to the growth thing anyway so will know for definite anyway with the scan tomorrow afternoon!

Cinnamon you are superwoman, sex AND long walks?! I can't manage either at the minute!

Brummagem glad to hear there's been no more bleeding.

I'm struggling to get comfortable at night too, but I've actually found that I'm more uncomfortable in the mornings! I've been waking up before my alarm goes off, and feel irritable and cant get into a comfy position, and so cant get back to sleep so I ended up getting up, with nothing to do!

cinnamongreyhound · 16/03/2015 21:07

Not really long walks RL20, dogs to walk and school runs to do so an accumulation of 2-3 miles a day :)
