Yeah doctors recommend baths as they're relaxing and soothing. They're only harmful if they're really hot, if you slowly have to edge yourself into the bath it's too hot just test it with your elbow you'll be fine

Treaclepie19 · 08/03/2015 14:16

Thank you :)
That's what I thought. I'm a bit hormonal today...

I ve been living in the bath treacle! I think at this stage the bean is way too insulated to come to much harm. I know that Jacuzzis are out though as they stay consistently hot whereas baths cool down...

Treaclepie19 · 08/03/2015 14:26

It's just that I read increasing your body temperature, especially in the first 12 weeks can possibly harm baby.
I doubt you could do that in the bath though.

I will look at the NCT visits but I dont think DP is keen on spending that money. We are currently saving for a deposit on a house so things are a bit tight - especially while renting! Are they about £200?
snowflake I'm in Manchester (Trafford). I feel like such a young mum, even though I'm not really, (I don't know how you feel?) but fear people will judge me ... probably because I look about 15 with no makeup on haha!!
guvas I do love it here and there are lots of things to do. There is even parent/baby swimming lessons a 2 min walk from my house! As well as the sure start as I said before. Plus only a short tram journey into the city centre! I'm sure I will meet lots of people I'm just feeling a bit negative & alone but I'm sure I won't when baby's here. Like somebody said, I won't feel along again!!
& Treacle I have a bath a couple of times a week, I can't stop it as I love having a bath. Like you say, as long as it's not stupidly hot it's supposed to be find & plus always helps me relax x

Hello Ambient, welcome! I'm older at 32, having my first, but just wanted to say I am in the same boat re working full time, college and essays. I am bloody knackered! Roll on the summer! We haven't gone public with our news yet so I've found it really soothing reading this thread each day, knowing I am not alone. I've started looking into NCT and they do a shorter Essentials course which is much cheaper - £150 in London so I reckon less in Manchester. Might be worth a look.

DeladionInch · 08/03/2015 16:27

my local nct does coffee mornings for everyone not just members

Snowflake15 · 08/03/2015 16:45

ambient I feel the same! I'm the youngest at my work aswell and the first of all my friends so I feel like when work and everyone find out it will be a big shock for them/gossip in my wider circle! I hate drama/controversy so I don't want to be discussed or whatever! But the main thing is I'm happy, dp is happy and our families are happy! And all will be fine when baby arrivesSmile

monkeymoonpig · 08/03/2015 17:25

Re baths - i thought the only time they advised against it is when your waters have broke as germs etc can then reach baby......i may be wrong tho Confused

ambientolf · 08/03/2015 17:36

Hi boodly, it's a mare isn't it? I suppose we will be a lot busier once baby comes but roll on summer for some relaxation before then!! I've gone public mostly because of my DP, I could have happily left it until 20 weeks (although I do look v.fat) but he's just too excited to share the news Smile.
& snowflake that's so funny as I am the youngest at work too (by 10 yrs!) & I already had comments by people when I got engaged last year (like I'm too young, etc, etc) so I'm paranoid people are judging me but you're right. Love is love and I love my DP to bits & can't wait to start our little family!
Now I'm going to do some proper research on antenatal classes... so much to learn! Wish I could have one of these Wine.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 08/03/2015 17:50

treacle I have a bath almost every day! actually in the bath right now So relaxing at the end of a long day. As others have said, baths are OK if you can get in in one go. The water gradually cools down so is unlikely to raise your core temperature. Jacuzzis and the like are out as they constantly top up the heat.

SomewhereovertheRainbow02 · 08/03/2015 19:37

Im also a bath lover! Have 2/3 a week and im a topper upper! I cant bear to even be slightly cold. Always sat next to a heater in work too! I didnt know being warm could potentially harm your baby?!

DeladionInch · 08/03/2015 20:06

Hospital sent me off to the bath with ds to see if it sped things up! About 18 hours after my waters had gone

Treaclepie19 · 08/03/2015 20:33

It's not being warm it's being constantly too hot. I don't think it could happen in a bath, I'm just a worrier!

DefinitelyNotElsa · 08/03/2015 20:42

I've been having a bath daily, with lots of yummy moisturising oils to help keep my Sahara dry skin at bay. The EPU actually recommended baths for cramping and said just to use common sense. If it's hot enough you have to edge into it, it's too hot!

Mummytogoldie · 08/03/2015 21:01

Hi ladies really worried I have been having palpatations for a couple of weeks and my heart is beating fast, midwife has referred me for a 24 hour heart tape. Last couple of days I have been getting a pain in my chest and really short of breath, I am really worried, anyone had anything similar?

Sorry to hear about the ladies anxiously waiting for test results, my friend unfortunately went through it last year and it was just awful, an emotional roller coaster x

StrawberryCheese · 08/03/2015 21:06

I think I've only had one bath so far in this pregnancy but I made sure it wasn't too hot and was only in it 10 minutes. I'm a bit rubbish at baths, I get bored!haha

ambient two of my friends have children but they live 200 miles away so I feel quite alone in this too. DH works in retail so is often out early, late and at weekends. I like my own company but will definitely be joining groups and relying on you ladies heavily Grin

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 08/03/2015 22:08

Finally have scan on Tuesday! So I'm prepared, will they need to take more blood then for the combined test? How long does it generally take for results to.come back?

Whatabout · 08/03/2015 22:09

Yes if they can do the measurement (mine get three and take average) they will take blood. Takes 10 days here to come back but I think if there is an issue you will hear sooner.

Goldie I'd been having similar but I have a water infection and am always stressed so I wonder if what llamas saying could be linked?

mrsatkinson · 09/03/2015 06:34

Where I am the NT results take 1-2 weeks but the call you within a couple of days if there is a problem.

has anyone else been getting a crampy trapped nerve feeling in their groin ? its making me limp when it comes on! x

Whatabout · 09/03/2015 07:01

Mrsatkinson I have loads of different pains, that is indeed one of them!

getoffthecoffeetable · 09/03/2015 09:01

Goldie I had something similar in my last pregnancy and it turned out my iron levels were really low. Had humungous iron tablets and they made me feel loads better.
One week to scan!

Toffeegirl39 · 09/03/2015 10:17

Hi, quick q for you, my consultant appointment is tomorrow and my DS (12) was poorly in the night with sickness and diarrhoea. He's off school today obviously and will be tomorrow. My ex mil has suggested I don't go to appointment so as not to spread the bug, but if I'm not ill myself I'm not putting anyone at risk am I?
