My sister lent me a Moby for ds but I didn't get on with it. I'm thinking of a Caboo this time, I know lots of people who loved theirs.

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 21/03/2015 21:59

Hare yes, I'm completely in disbelief, same as last time. Can't wait til I look pregnant and not just fat! (Fatter!)

Treaclepie19 · 22/03/2015 06:51

I have the worst craving for subway... :(
Just throwing that out there :p

OP posts:
ambientolf · 22/03/2015 06:52

Ooh I have subway at least once a week now haha! I love it and tell myself it's healthier then a takeaway pizza, etc.

Treaclepie19 · 22/03/2015 07:02

Ooo what do you have on It?
I really want chicken teryaki...
I know lots of people have stopped eating it cause of listeria risk though.

OP posts:
HaveTeaWillSurvive · 22/03/2015 07:11

I don't really understand the listeria one, what are we supposed to avoid? I love getting handmade salads and toasted bagels from the excellent sandwich place at work and suspect it may be exactly those Sad

THEworrywart · 22/03/2015 07:20

Havetea

pâté
butter
soft cheeses – such as Brie or Camembert, or others with a similar rind
soft blue cheese
cooked sliced meats
smoked salmon

Snowflake15 · 22/03/2015 07:22

treacle I don't think the nhs bans cooked meats like ham etc or pre packaged sandwiches. I'm sorry but I just think it goes way OTT, I have never heard of anyone getting food posioning from sandwiches or subway, pregnant or not! It really annoys me how we're not supposed to do anything while pregnant, even a hot bath! So I do have to take some of these things with a pinch of salt - what are you supposed to eat at work if not something pre preparedHmm

Snowflake15 · 22/03/2015 07:24

Basically I am avoiding pate, soft cheese, blue cheese, alcohol, more than 2 cups of coffee per day, rare steak, unfrozen sushi and I think that's about it? I may be pregnant but I need to maintain some kind of sanity!

THEworrywart · 22/03/2015 07:24

Treacle why have they stopped eating subway? My consultant told me to get a subway down me!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 22/03/2015 07:37

I've been eating cooked meats like ham but have been following fish rules for cured meats I.e freeze first or cooked.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 22/03/2015 07:38

worry this is why I'm confused what are you eating on your subway if you're not having any cooked sliced meat? I've been avoiding everything on the Nhs list but understood it to be cured meat to avoid, so Parma ham etc that won't have been cooked at all.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 22/03/2015 07:42

Snowflake what is your thinking on salmon? Lots of places no longer freeze it as the guidelines for general consumption no longer require it for farmed salmon as the risk of parasites is now so tiny.

Oh, I'm also eating runny eggs if lion stamped. I love my eggs Benedict on a Sunday morning!

I know there was someone a while back who said a friend still got sick but I figure, just like with any food, there is always a tiny risk. Short of eating NASA food, you're never going to avoid it entirely, just have to be sensible.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 22/03/2015 07:42

snowflake exactly, that's why I've been avoiding the murmurings about cooked meat and pre-packed salads as what on earth do you eat when out in the day? Could just about get away with soup at this time of year but 8 months pregnant in the height of summer - not on your life!!!

THEworrywart · 22/03/2015 07:47

My consultant said the chances of listeria from cooked sliced meat before it's 'use by' are less than significant and she thinks the guidelines are ridiculous especially towards the likes of pre packed salads sandwhiches and cooked meats.
If 3000 people are pregnant and 2 get listeria from cooked meats etc they're advised to put it as an nhs guideline.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 22/03/2015 07:55

havetea, worrys list is from the NHS page on Listeria. I dont think it's her personal 'avoid' list judging by subsequent comments.

Their pregnancy pages then say:

You can eat smoked fish, such as smoked salmon, and cooked cold meats when youâ??re pregnant

They wonder why we're confused....

Snowflake15 · 22/03/2015 07:56

lastnight I have mainly been avoiding salmon unless cooked, had yo sushi the other day and only had tuna, as that is frozen, but I have to admit I did have a smoked salmon canapé the other day! I don't see it as a big risk though to be honest

Snowflake15 · 22/03/2015 07:57

lastnight good point! I reckon, if they can't even be bothered to be clear about it, it surely can't be tooo risky!? Haha

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 22/03/2015 07:58

Snowflake Smoked is fine! I've still been having the occasional salmon but not as much as I used to. I'm an itsu eater, their website is quite good and combined this with NHS and fsa guidance.

THEworrywart · 22/03/2015 07:59

They change the guidelines yearly so I don't see how they can be clear is specific it baffles me how something can be deemed safe one year and not the next?

'Ensure' drinks aren't classed as safe for pregnancy on some sites but I've been prescribed them by my consultant and need them to survive so...

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 22/03/2015 08:04

Tell me about it! A former colleague was on a world trip when his wife fell pregnant so I was asking if she had any advice for China. he said they just told their guide she had to avoid shellfish and raw egg and I had to tell him that cooked shellfish is ok now. His son is only 4, so it's not like outdated 'parental' advice!

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 22/03/2015 08:09

Oh FFS we don't stand a chance do we! There was I merrily following the Nhs thinking I was ok and now there's another NHS one. I can't overthink this, will stick with eating what I have been before I go stir crazy!!

Jessica32 · 22/03/2015 08:15

I'm avoiding pate, cured meat and soft cheese but I think that's it. I haven't avoided them but I think people consider pre packed sandwiches and salads, and more so salads from places like subway as risky because of Listeria and salmonella. As far as I know they are not listed to avoid, probably because it's unrealistic. However, as far as I understand, the reality is you are more likely to get food poisoning from things like salad where the someone preparing it hasn't washed their hands properly than from a runny egg. This is probably why some women avoid it. If you're being extra careful it's something you may consider. If you know something to be more risky than one of the things listed.
I agree with the poster who said we could all drive ourselves mad. I am mostly not worrying. I had an ice cream scoop yesterday and I know that can be a risk (Listeria I think) if the water they rinse the scoop in isn't changed enough. Stagnant water with melted non cooled ice cream in etc.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 22/03/2015 08:42

havetea I think you're fine. If you follow the 'what not to eat when pregnant' then that's a comprehensive list, some of the subpages then give more detail on how it can be relaxed for certain circumstances.

I think the infection specific ones list everything that could be contaminated with no mention of likely risk. I saw butter pop up on one of them...!

Whatabout · 22/03/2015 08:49

I'm avoiding pate, mould ripened or unpasteurised cheese and booze and limiting caffeine. But I'm quite shit and eat something I then realise I shouldng have. Rigatoni with dolce latte and speck probably not great.
