My sleeping pattern is completely messed up! It's now not unusual for me to sleep from 9-4! Not great when I have to work.

Keep telling myself it's my body preparing for sleepless nights and early mornings!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 21/03/2015 07:51

I wake up pretty regularly at 5am. I do have to get up for work at 6 so it's not crazy but it drives me mad!

Tiredstressed · 21/03/2015 08:16

I keep sleeping from 9-4 too. I have been up for hours. Then I can't keep my eyes open in the evening. I need an afternoon nap - I wonder if I can persuade DD to sleep this afternoon...

THEworrywart · 21/03/2015 08:18

I didn't doze off till 11 last night which is late at the minute for me and woke up at 3 Sad I don't get how I'm drained and not sleeping!

sauvblanc21 · 21/03/2015 08:37

worry I woke up at 5.45am for a wee, that woke hubbo up, I moaned that I couldn't get back to sleep as did he. So he got up...and I fell asleep until 8am - oops! But also kept waking up aaaall through the night with the WEIRDEST dreams - cat stuck in car, tooth broken in half, even something about Jabba the Hut (and I hate Star Wars!) Xx

Jessica32 · 21/03/2015 09:13

In terms of risk factors from tests, I'm not sure it's just arse covering. My risk came back low, 1 in 4591. To me that is great and not worth worrying about. However, it is a statistic and someone will have to be the '1' otherwise it would be a zero per cent risk.

On buggies, this is my first so haven't had one before. However I worked in a nursery shop when I was at uni and I agree with the poster who said everyone's needs are different. All we could do was encourage people to consider their lifestyle and needs/wishes and go through the features, pros and cons of each buggy option. It was impossible to recommend. I would definitely suggest having a good think about whether it's important to you whether the baby faces you. Lots of customers had never thought about it and it's quite significant. If you don't mind there are more options. If you do, and end up getting one that only faces away, people get tempted to leave them in the car seat too long as they face you in that.

shinjuku09 · 21/03/2015 10:57

Jessica very good point about carseats and babies facing you. Some people have them in the carseat for hours on the frame and are happy with it but I didn't like to do that having read up on it and it just doesn't look right for them to be in that position for long. I also liked having DD facing me. As she was a buggy hater there was no way to cheer her up and distract her easily if you couldn't see her!

shinjuku09 · 21/03/2015 10:58

Yes terrible sleep at the mo not helped by terrible night cough. Up for hours with it last night. Have had a cough of some sort for 80% of this pregnancy so far!!

shinjuku09 · 21/03/2015 11:05

lastnight most people I know with the Vista really love it. It's pretty huge and hefty but I can imagine good for bumpy walks and good if you walk a lot from your house.

countrybumpkingirl · 21/03/2015 12:05

We might be a two buggy house- one for very muddy walks (live in country and 2 dogs) and one for everything else. Ebay has some great deals on second hand buggies but anyone else feeling a bit intimidated/overwhelmed by going into shops to ask about it with no obvious bump?! I just look a bit podgy! Smile

lovesmycake · 21/03/2015 12:41

For those in the country we are out in the sticks and went for a littlelife backpack. DS was in it from about a year old as DH hates wrestling prams around. I know that's a long way off but it impacted how much we were willing to spend on a pram because we didn't actually use it for that long and it was only me on maternity that really used it. DH used babybjorn then backpack.

Jessica32 · 21/03/2015 13:08

country don't worry about asking now, nobody will think anything (I didn't when I worked in a nursery shop). It's a big investment and you want enough time to research and then consider before you're so big you don't feel like major shopping. Also, you might need time to order in the colour you want even once you've decided and collect it in case you have the baby early.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 21/03/2015 13:23

Yup, think we're going to get an ergo baby for 'proper' walks!

bonzo77 · 21/03/2015 13:49

I loved my ergo baby, I only got it when ds2 was 18 months, wish I'd known about it from when I has ds1 instead of the baby Bjorn which I didn't get on with. Only thing is you need an insert to use it from birth, and it's really too small for him now aged 2.3. There are other carriers that are a bit wider, I should really have done more research, but I'm pleased I'll get more use out of it. I've also got a Kari-me which I used from one week with DS2 who was around 5.5lb at the time.

shinjuku09 · 21/03/2015 14:18

I really wouldn't recommend a Bjorn. A lot of people buy them as they're the most well known but most people stop using them or buy another after a few months. They're just not that comfy for the wearer (and sling experts think for the baby too). You can get much better ones that you can use from very early on right until they're several years old. Though if you have a tiddler like me you may find they're a bit lost in them. Hence me having four to date not including our hiking one (that's nothing compared to some friends - the world of slings is an addictive one!!).

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 21/03/2015 14:49

misssmilla the cynic in me thinks that they will recommend anything that is billable to your insurance! Wink

crab as others have said, it's definitely worth having a look at buggies "in the flesh". Most places will let you try them out in the boot of your car too. I'm still using mine at least a few times a week with ds at 17 months as well as having a sling. Despite finally learning how to sleep at night he still will only nap in the day if he's in the buggy so it's been really useful. Sling-wise I have a Connecta which I love.

lastnight I LOVE my Vista, I definitely recommend it to those with a big enough boot. We used the carrycot as a travel cot and even put him in it at night at home for a time - it was easier to prop up at the head end than the crib.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 21/03/2015 15:11

squirrel love your name by the way that's really good to hear! I like the fact that you can use the carrycot to sleep in.

I also like the fact that it would still make sense if and when #2 makes an appearance, get the buggy board on the back and away you go (or the rumble seat if things are sooner!) For an extra £100 over the iCandy you seem to get a lot in the way of flexibility.

Only concern is weight but, to be honest, they're all about 12kg anyway so that just seems to be how it works!

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 21/03/2015 16:25

Thanks lastnight Smile
If you get the 2015 version you can use carrycot and toddler seat together-I was looking at it enviously earlier!!

Whatabout · 21/03/2015 16:50

Squirrel I wish I had the 2015 version, very jealous! Think it will be snug seat and rumble seat for us. Wilf still goes in now a couple of times a week at 23 months. The weight is usually the frame plus the seat, you take the bassinet / car seat off and then put in the boot so lifting less. When they go into main seat you can choose to fold in one or again take off seat and then put in the boot. I found mine much easier in and out of my boot than my friend's I candy peach 2 (and her handle bar broke!). I also used the bassinet as a cot (it's tested or whatever for overnight sleeping) and that was so useful.

Ours has been on snow, fields, sand, gravel you name it.

Just back from centre parcs and I saw a huge range of buggies. The range is amazing and in some ways I wish I'd looked more at how they transform into a double.

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 21/03/2015 18:30

Whatabout we'll do the same, snug and rumble, although I have just emailed them in hope that the adapters will fit mine too!

ambientolf · 21/03/2015 20:32

Went to have a look at pushchairs today at Mothercare and Babies R Us. We were definitely just LOOKING however seen a deal at Babies R Us for the Cosatto Giggle 2 with free car seat for £378 (then found a £15 off voucher) so got it for £363!!! Bought the ISOFIX car seat adapter for £120 at Halfords so managed to get all that for £483!!! Pretty chuffed with ourselves. Bit nervous we have ordered so soon but we really liked the Cosatto & looking at the prices in Mothercare it just seemed nothing would beat it! So excited now Grin

Excitingtimesahead · 21/03/2015 21:21

Sounds like a good deal ambient, if I thought ds would be ok walking or on a buggy board. Would def get the giggle.

A little sad that baby won't face me, but he/she will have a big bro to keep them company and entertained.

Most important thing for me is that they can be in a carry cot until they are able to support themselves sitting.

I have the stokke carrier get from 4months but not birth as advertised will get a sling until then. Either the caboo or ero

DeladionInch · 21/03/2015 21:27

there are a great many sling and carrier manufacturers, making products more inline with the latest research into not parent and baby comfort. unfortunately they don't have the money or distribution to supply to the major high street retailers yet. this is changing - lillebaby, ergo and manduca are all readily available - but that's hardly any of the brands available, plus the less well known ones are the prettiest!

is it www.slingmeet.co.uk that has all the libraries?

Hare5260 · 21/03/2015 21:29

Does it strike anyone else as ridiculous that there is a real person growing inside them? I just can't believe that after everything we have gone through, we are actually going to be parents... I'm not normally impatient but I want to feel this bubba move NOW!!!

Excitingtimesahead · 21/03/2015 21:40

Dandelion looked into meduca last time but went with stokke as reviews and wearing them seemed better distribution of weight on your back etc. but price was similar. Moby is the other one we are going to have a look at.

Will have a look at the website. Thank you
