Snowflake I think in theory you can carry on with Zumba, but you'll have to take it really easy. Id suggest talking to your Zumba teacher beforehand - they may have issues with the liability insurance for pregnant ladies. X

Haha to the 'no offense but your dad sounds like an idiot' trust me no offense taken! He is a tool and likes to have an opinion on every area of my life :/ for crying out loud, plenty of women wait until their 39s or even 40s before they have their first child, it's not like I'm bloody 60 :/
Good luck to those getting results or having scans today! Now on the way to the hospital for dd1s op :/ she's a bit nervous and I'm dreading seeing her put out :/ dd2 had a lovely night staying at nannies last night and I'd staying again tonight to save she rushing back from hospital this evening :)

I'm getting a bit tired of my mum saying 'that didn't happen when I had you'

e.g

Me: I'm taking folic acid and vitamin D.
Mum: I never had to take those when I had you

Me: Blood tests will check for odds of Down Syndrome and other chromosonal abnomalities like Edwards and Pataus
Mum: I never had to have those when I had you

Me: I'll have two scans at 12 and 20 weeks and probably a growth scan a bit later like I did with DS
Mum: I never had any scans when I had you. I don't understand why they don't do them now

All with a withering look like I am making a fuss about nothing and insisting on these things even though they are all standard these days.

I am 40 years old! Things have moved on in ante-natal care in those 40 years. Things have moved on even since I had DS three years ago so why she thinks I should be having the exact same experiences as she did is a bit mind blowing.

GoooRooo · 10/03/2015 09:37

*why they DO do them now (re scans)

Tiredstressed · 10/03/2015 09:51

Ah yes GoooRooo - I get a look like I am being precious when I am just following current medical guidelines.

Choccyhobnob · 10/03/2015 09:51

Spam I don't feel old for having my first at 29! (Will be 30 come September) when I had my combined results she said 'everyone your age' has a starting risk of 1:600. That made me feel quite old!

Treaclepie19 · 10/03/2015 09:55

Goo I know exactly what you mean.

My nan said "it was much better in my day, you didn't know so much so you just got on with it"...

OP posts:
GoooRooo · 10/03/2015 10:08

Ha, Treacle.

My nan didn't know how babies were born until she was in labour and her MIL told her. She thought they came out your belly button. 9 months pregnant and nobody had told her about child birth - poor woman.

Tiredstressed · 10/03/2015 10:09

That must have been an unpleasant surprise.

TheMidnightHour · 10/03/2015 10:14

Always entertained by the things people think are appropriate to say. DP's mum was pressuring us to get married & have kids when we were about 22 and came out with the immortal line 'if you have them after 28 they come out weird'. She had DP at 36 Grin

Thinking about starting running (well, jogging slowly) again. I stopped when I got the BFP because I was worried about everything. That and it was winter. Now there's a bit more light and I'm 15w, I kind of fancy it but am not sure. Not a great runner - got through the couch to 5k last year, but would probably have to start again. What do you think?? Is it a risk?

Tiredstressed · 10/03/2015 10:18

I carried in spinning until late on in my last pregnancy - it was fine. I stopped running fairly early but that was more due to comfort. I think you just need to keep cool and hydrated. This time I have done nothing and am feeling very round! I might attempt a slow jog.

Treaclepie19 · 10/03/2015 10:23

Oh my gosh Goo!

My mom didn't know she was having twins when she had my sisters. It was made worse because she passed out during the first being born and woke up for the second so when they said they're both here she was in shock!

Ah yes...we had one of those on our local facebook group recently replying to a post reminding people to be careful about opening car doors as her son had been knocked off his bike on his way to school (fortunately OK).

Some idiot replied saying 'in my day we walked to school, played outside and mums were there for their kids'.

I gave him a right earful (via the medium of facebook) pointing out that it takes two people to make a child, both of whom have responsibility for them and that he could keep 'his day' given that child mortality rates were 5 times higher in the sixties.

Actually got facebook applause :D

People are very keen to look back on their own experiences with rose tinted glasses. I'm fairly certain that, given all the budgetary pressures, the NHS wouldn't do anything they didn't think strictly necessary!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 10/03/2015 10:44

By the way, hope you've all seen this. We have a VERY important job to do...

monkeymoonpig · 10/03/2015 10:54

Im 33 and didn't feel old until midwife at booking in basically said i was when asking if I would be doing NT test....tbf she did say compared to me she was ancient lol
Talking of NT test - i still haven't has my results Confused had it done 2wks ago today. Assuming no news is good news but still it would be nice to know. I called local midwives last wk about it but as i had scan/test at main hospital they couldn't help. And main hospital never answer tgw phone!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 10/03/2015 11:05

Have people waited to get their NT tests back before telling people? Not sure I can contain it much longer...

monkeymoonpig · 10/03/2015 11:09

Ive told everyone....tho told my boss and chap i share an office with ages ago as they prob thought i was going mad with my weird requests for decaff tea/sweetener and no to choc cake! Lol

GoooRooo · 10/03/2015 11:10

I told everyone at 8 weeks after our early scan. Having had a miscarriage at 10 weeks last year, I knew it likely that if I did miscarry after that (which is unlikely as I saw a heartbeat) I would need the support.

If the NT results come back as high risk I'll have to cross that bridge.

Mummyboo30 · 10/03/2015 11:13

Monkey I haven't had mine back either. I'm guessing that must mean everything is fine...

I started pregnancy yoga last week, which was good although doesn't make much difference for actual fitness. Need to do something, maybe break out Just dance on the WiiU! (That way no-one has to see me shake my wobbly bits!)

Treaclepie19 · 10/03/2015 11:22

Having a worry day here :(
I have another 8 days til my scan. I'm 12+2 today and my nausea has eased off.
Still having food aversion but I am eating more now.

Normal?
I had my early scan at 9+5 and all was well so I don't know why I'm so worried.

OP posts:
misssmilla1 · 10/03/2015 11:46

treacle totally normal (well, to me anyway!) had terrible indigestion, waves of nausea and weird food cravings and couldn't eat certain things but it eased off at about 10 weeks, so I'm back to normal(ish) in terms of appetite.

People who are asking about exercising; from the reading I've done, if you exercised before pregnancy you should try and keep doing stuff during the 9 months, to a similar level of what you were doing before - i.e. if you were a 5 cardio classes a week lady, one walk a week whilst pregnant isn't really going to have a lot of impact iyswim.

Exercising regularly is good for you and the baby, and supposedly is a good way to try and avoid gestational diabetes (if it's not hereditary or you've had it before)

Since finding out I was pregnant I've been doing stationary bike rides on the spin bike, spin classes, zumba, body pump and fast power walking on the treadmill. I look a bit of a fool with the last one Grin but if you whack the incline up and do a fast walk, you can get your heartbeat to around 130-140bpm if you want a cardio work out.

I have a heart rate monitor so I can keep an eye on what I'm doing, but mainly I listen to my body; if I get tired quickly or out of breath, I just reduce the resistance / speed / weight and take it from there.

My biggest gym issue is actually clothing - most stuff is tight and I just look like a chubster atm (looking forward to the day I look like I haven't got the world's biggest muffin top..) even in big tshirts

DoNotDenyMe · 10/03/2015 11:59

lastnight - I'm most definitely telling people after today. So many people have been asking at work and I'm getting pretty sick of having to lie now.
I did think of just asking for the nt measurement though... not sure if they'd tell me. If it seemed really high, I'd probably have 2nd thoughts.

Tbh, I'm trying not to over think things ... I feel like it's all I did until I had my early scan 3 wks ago. I'm a terrible worrier and need to stop thinking things are wrong until I know for sure that they ARE. Wink

ambientolf · 10/03/2015 12:06

I think worrying seems to be normal doesn't it? Everyone thinks I'm so negative for thinking something bad will happen but I'm reassured that im not the only one with this. I am still excited, but not letting myself get too excited/buying stuff until 2pm week scan

ambientolf · 10/03/2015 12:10

20 not 2pm Hmm

DoNotDenyMe · 10/03/2015 12:33

Grin very true ambient
Let's face it, the worrying is never going to stop for any of us now is it?? Wink
