Just checking in. Wrote a post then iPad lost it. Grr.

Got to wait for blood results before home. The reason they are worried is because the stoma was bleeding so much too. The blood test site didn't really bleed though which is good and I'm not bruising so I think it will be ok.

I feel totally rubbish though. Legs ache to the point I feel they might stop working when I get up and walk. Hands and arms are doing the same with typing almost cramp like. Hopefully bloods will show I have a virus or something and I'll just be told to go home and go to bed!!! Oh how lovely that would be...

RL20 · 05/03/2015 10:40

Daholster hope everything goes ok - definitely better to get it checked.
They do say pregnancy can mess around with your teeth/gums and I do have occasional light bleeding of my gums when I brush my teeth, but I have had gum problems before and have had to use the Corsodyl mouthwash made specifically for gum disease etc, to help prevent from it getting to that extent.
At the minute I have a Corsodyl spray which is safe to use in pregnancy. It's for a variety of things but I bought it as I had a mouth ulcer and didn't want to risk using anything else. It cleared it up within a few days!

I must have missed babiecakes post somewhere but congratulations anyway! How exciting! Hope everything is going well Grin

Penguin don't worry I know what you mean. It's just comforting to know that you're not the only one that's having them thoughts! I worry about us drifting apart too as I know some men tend to feel 'left out' which sounds ridiculous but all your focus has to go on baby. I'm hoping he won't be like that though, so I need to research ways to get dad involved. He will be able to feed him with a bottle as I'm not planning on breastfeeding so that's not a problem hopefully, but I need to look for some other bonding tips too.

Cinnamon oh no that's no good. How old is he? My partners daughter who is 6 hasn't really shown much interested and don't think she'll believe it until the baby is here. But I think it will hit her like a tonne of bricks. We've tried talking to her about the baby but because I haven't got a huge bump, I think she sometimes forgets.

Smog that's lovely! RE the pipes, the assessor came out just after 8am which I was surprised at, and I hadn't even got dressed so had to answer the door in my dressing gown Confused Eventually managed to rush off to the bedroom to put my leggings on!
Work should hopefully start on Monday. But I've just spoke to my partner to tell him and he's not happy so is going to call them to try and get it in sooner.
The assessor even had the cheek to want a cup of tea even after I explained to him I would have to heat the water up on the electric hob as the kettle isn't working, and would he like a cold drink instead. His reply was "hmm well I would prefer a hot drink". The f*ing cheek!! Angry The flats already upside down as it is, not bothering to tidy as everything has to be moved for them anyway!

TinyTear · 05/03/2015 10:41

I know what you mean...

Can't help with areas as I am more of a North and East person - in my time have lived in Archway, Angel, Caledonian Road, Leytonstone, Brick Lane/Shoreditch (definitely NOT with a child) and now Hampstead...

Don't know much about South, although we did look at Greenwich (we wanted green spaces near us for walks)

I have friends with children in Brockley (one between Brockley Overground and St John's train) and the area seems nice when I visit... One of them works in Westminster... good luck!

my main tip is to go and visit the areas at different times of day to get a good feel...

daholster · 05/03/2015 10:41

Lol siarie "random colours on walls"!!! I know what you mean though, if you like modern then 70s house isn't what you are after... But you can change a house a lot, we have, it's a detached 4 bed with garden and double drive near Guildford (the train commute for your dh, too far out of course) and we spent £10000 having the downstairs made all open plan, tiled/wood floor, new gloss kitchen and it looks totally different, upstairs is halfway done too. It's just it doesn't look any more modern than it used to from the outside!

A bit cheaper than London prices too... Though not as affordable as when we had a very slightly smaller 4 bed in Nottingham a couple of years ago which sold for just over half the price we bought our current one for, hence these days we have to be more careful with the pennies! It's the price of choosing to move South (which is where we both grew up - Nottingham was our home for 10 years when we went to uni and settled for a bit afterwards).

Wow I just had a strong BH, nearly made me wet myself and had to stop what I was doing.

TinyTear · 05/03/2015 10:49

ha daholster, i can't go anywhere without a pad on nowadays... i have a cough that really made me realise my pelvic floor is shot!

Siarie · 05/03/2015 10:54

I'm looking at the jubilee line as well tiny so Hampstead is in there, but the rental market up there seems quite lacking. Not much on the market that appeals, It would be so much easier if we bought a house and then changed it but then I would end up having to stay behind while we try and sell it when/if DH moves contracts.

If I was looking at places back where I used to live (South West UK) I could easily pick a handle of areas that I really liked the houses in. Not quite as easy when you haven't lived here long, it honestly feels like a chore.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/03/2015 10:54

Yes with amazing thirst while bfing smogsville!! Also, 36 week scan is standard in Spain too.

He's nearly 14 RL20, so not little anymore. I'm not a horrible stepmum but it annoys me that's he now of that age that he manipulates situations and its Dh that ends up with the rough end of the stick. I love him and he'll always be part of our family but the last year has been the toughest with him. We take him on every family holiday and he's part of all family celebrations and always will be as long as he wants to no matter how many children we have. The funny thing is he's actually dh's favourite (he says not but his behaviour shows differently) so has nothing to worry about. I think the same about ds2 as your dsd though, he talks about a baby but has no idea!

smogsville · 05/03/2015 10:54

They call it a 'growth scan' Siarie. I hope they don't say whoops, baby's too small as it doesn't leave long to do anything about it! Although judging by the size of boulder these days I think that's unlikely. Sorry to hear your placenta's not playing ball. We used to live in Fulham but couldn't afford to buy a proper house there so sold our flat and moved north. If you like SW I have friends in Surbiton who have been there for a number of years, very fam oriented. They have one DC and planning another baby soonish with luck. Trains go into waterloo.

RL surely they are taking the piss? Are you paying full rent while all this is going on? Surely the terms of your contract would mean that no hot water and all this upheaval means you should be rehoused? Esp being preg?

daholster keep leaning on those PIL. Is your DD at nursery all day? You know if it was one of us you would be telling us to take it easy.

TinyTear · 05/03/2015 11:08

Siarie, yes, we were lucky to have bought over 5 years ago in the slump, but still have just a top floor flat so good exercise to lug a pram upstairs every day!

some nice places in west hampstead...

minipie · 05/03/2015 11:11

Hey Siarie I think i replied to your thread in Property/DIY, I'm in SW london near northcote road, happy to talk about the area round here if that helps. Not much modern, it's mostly victorian but plenty of very nicely presented places. Clapham Junction works for waterloo as does northern line tube, so there are options if one breaks down. or you could look at Earlsfield (cheaper than ncote road) or round queenstown road station (mansion flats round Battersea park to the North or sweet victorian houses to the south off Q road itself).

skyra13 · 05/03/2015 11:25

I really can not be bothered to do house work, said I would make a pie for dinner and I can not be bothered to move!!

Wondering if I will ever get the nesting instinct! because I feel lazy lately.

Anyone else get lots of hiccups from there little monster?

Had them twice this morning and tbh they annoy me lol!

daholster · 05/03/2015 11:29

Yep dd is in nursery all day today. I just told PIL this morning that I had a blood test and would let them know if I needed anything, but not what had happened or that I am here. Have only told dh. And work of course!

After yesterday's car shenanigans FIL said they are making fish pie today and they thought they would make a big one, so that they could feed dd if I was late and then bring some across for me to my house when I got home, or if I was early I could have dinner with them before going home. Totally lovely of them, all it need to do is bath and bed for dd that way. Also have a joint of beef going off so will make a beef pie filling (since it is national pie week apparently!) so it just needs some pastry and an oven for when dh gets home on Friday night.

Everyone here so far has said I should just go on mat leave and should have stopped at 34 weeks! Doh!

RL20 · 05/03/2015 11:48

Cinnamon I see what you mean. I like to think I'm not a horrible stepmum either. Have been with her dad since she was a few months old (her mum has also been with same partner since around that time too) and so I have brought her up as much as he has. It's been a really rough ride with her mum always being very awkward (have spoke about this on here before so won't bore you-very Jeremy Kyle!).
I don't know how it's going to pan out really, I have mentioned to her that I will take her swimming when I start taking the baby (as she's not yet been taught to swim, ride bike properly etc) but there's only so much we can do when we're/he's only given fortnightly access.
I agree, at 14 years old it could be anything eg hormones, and a new baby is probably the easiest situation for him to blame. It's obviously trying to mask another problem he has, maybe to do with school, or would his mum play any part in discouraging him from baby? I know that my partners ex is likely to do this so just a thought.

Smog they have 'managed' to change the day to tomorrow around 8am and should just be a day job. Tomorrow will be a week without heating and hot water. Will just be glad to get back to normal but they're changing all the radiators too which means tonight when my partner gets back from work we've got to literally move everything away from every radiator in the flat!
He is going to do some more complaining with regards to the bills etc.

Now off to Toys R Us in a minute. Having minor problems with one of the buttons on the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine (which in all other aspects is amazing) and I've managed to find the receipt so off to see if we can change it for another one! I called Tommee Tippee and they said it automatically comes with a 12 months warranty so fingers crossed.

skyra13 · 05/03/2015 11:50

Anyone seen this in the news how horrible can people be to someone in labour!
shocking! metro.co.uk/2015/03/05/pregnant-woman-attacked-with-baseball-bat-and-knife-while-giving-birth-5089797/?ito=facebook

ChickenMe · 05/03/2015 12:24

We get a 36w here as standard (Medway)- it's stupid that different authorities do different things. We got the harmony test as well.
Siarie I loved Forest Hill when I lived there and East Dulwich is very nice (but ££). I also liked Beckenham but it's further out. If it's affordable I would choose Wimbledon or Richmond though. They are close enough to london without being stifling. Saying that we moved out of London because I had always dreamed of a country life! 38years of London was enough!

FiRaffe · 05/03/2015 12:26

I'm only getting the extra scab because of my bmi, but so glad to be seeing little one again.

Glad they have moved the dates RL a small hope you get something back - it's not like it's summer so you don't need the heating!

BananaToast · 05/03/2015 12:39

I'm in Wimbledon Siarie and really like it. Easy commute on the northern line/train and really family friendly. I know what you mean about decor in rentals, I was always quite fussy with finding somewhere I liked when we were renting!

PenguinPoser · 05/03/2015 13:28

Wow so many London people! I wonder if I am the only northerner on here?

Another question - sorry I know slings have been discussed at length already!
I have been loaned the close caboo sling from a friend, looks like the sort of thing I wanted. DH doesn't like it though, he wants a more 'structures' type carrier - liking the look of baby bjorn. Does anyone have baby bjorn - is it worth the money? Or a similar less expensive sling?

Skyra that article is completely shocking.
RL pleased the dates have been changed fingers crossed they actually get it all sorted!

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 05/03/2015 13:44

I had similar to a baby bjorn - it was a mamas & papas one -
and to be honest it was ok though a pain in the backside to get on and off. before that I tried my cousin's similar style one (can't remember what make it was) and that was worse!

I like the close baby carrier - comfy and easy to use.

smogsville · 05/03/2015 13:51

Penguin we have a bjorn. One of the ones that has a big strap thing going around hips rather than the more basic one. It was the best on the market in 2011. There is a better one now that you can also use to carry a larger baby on your back that my friend has.

I know there are now apparently issues about babies' hips with bjorns but as DD is fine I plan to use it again with this baby.

You can't use it until baby can hold its own head up by itself/ is 6 wks old - whichever comes first basically.

MoominMama22 · 05/03/2015 13:52

Just scanning through, any news from babiecakes? Sorry about your crappy bad luck-all-at-once daholster.

Yep seems to be a whole host of Londoners penguin! I'm only about 500miles North...

Had vomiting, endless diarrhoea (sorry) and sparkles in front of my eyes this morhing. Got the midwife soon, if I'm safe to drive!

Bleurghh

minipie · 05/03/2015 13:55

skyra what an awful story, i wonder if they were high or something.

penguin I have the close Caboo and like it a lot for newborn up to about 3 months but it doesn't work so well once your baby gets bigger and heavier. Maybe see how you get on with that one (some babies hate slings!) and get something more structured later if you want? Baby bjorns have a bad reputation on MN as apparently they put the babys hips in a bad position and aren't great for your back, but they're very popular anyway especially with dads. The Bjorn is often available quite cheaply second hand, I wouldn't pay new price for it. other structured carriers with possibly better ergonomics are Ergo, Connecta, Beco and I think Manduca.

BrixtonBunny · 05/03/2015 13:59

Penguin our NCT teacher has told us absolutely not to go for baby bjorn style carriers as they can cause hip issues for babies - if you google it I'm sure you'll find info, she showed us videos and photos. Basically she said babies should always be facing your chest or on your back due to the position being much better and more natural for them. But maybe do your own research as I'm not an expert at all!

Siarie we're moving to Streatham /Norbury border in south west London which is a MUCH less lovely area (read: a grotty area!) as we really wanted to buy a three bed house with a garden, close enough to my DPs work in Wandsworth that he could continue to cycle in, with good commuting links to Westminster for me and to Brighton for my mum (who will do a day's childcare for us when I go back to work next year). We would only have been able to afford a smaller flat in places like Wimbledon and clapham, but would have moved there in a heartbeat if we could have bought somewhere bigger there! Saying that we currently live in Brixton near brockwell park and that / Herne Hill area would be a fantastic place to rent and have a family (again can't afford to buy somewhere the size we'd like in those areas).

35+1 and definitely waddling - finding it so hard to stay motivated at work knowing I finish next Friday!

BrixtonBunny · 05/03/2015 14:01

Moomin babie had her baby girl yesterday weighing over 6 pounds and she looks perfect! Having a few little problems feeding and breathing at the same time but they are hoping she'll be back on the ward soon Smile

TinyTear · 05/03/2015 14:03

I bought a manduca for newbie.

i had a baby bjorn last time. actually, if anyone wants it I can sell mine... I need to give it a wash or a wipe as there are some white marks from using it on a hot day, but can make a discount if you would prefer to wash it yourself Grin
