I love your cat wine. Ours has commandeered everything meant for the baby. They think everything is for them!
Thread moving very fast today! Are a lot of people on leave now? I'm at home-I took my A/L for 2015 starting now! I thought I'd be bored but I'm more mystified about the amount of admin/paperwork shit two people can generate.

ChickenMe · 03/03/2015 13:55

Hope your class is good RL.

My baby would be Elderflower cordial. But I generally have had a huge sweet tooth in pregnancy. I'm normally a savory person! I adore mini eggs - why did I give up chocolate for lent. Dang.

FiRaffe · 03/03/2015 14:32

I think my baby would be called Magnum....oops!

Wish I was on mat leave.....4 and a bit weeks left Confused

BananaToast · 03/03/2015 15:13

Same Fi - I don't finish til the 1st of April. I'm just good at procrastinating on here when I need a 5 min break Grin Cannot wait to be on mat leave, finding mornings a struggle now. Just want to stay in my lovely bed and not have to try to engage my brain! Pregnancy has definitely made me more stupid.

PenguinPoser · 03/03/2015 15:30

My baby would also be mini eggs/creme eggs! Blush

Hope everyone's days are going ok, sounds like a lot of antenatal classes going on! I've just done a breast feeding workshop I hope that's enough. Have some books - I'm halfway through 'first time parent' and I also have 'your baby week by week' although I've only read week one I thought no point worrying myself too much yet might as well take it slowly!

Brixton sounding positive for your home birth fingers crossed for you. And for all of those wanting to go to birthing centre, they sound amazing. My hospital doesn't have a birthing centre but either way I would have to be on delivery suite so doesn't really matter to me.

I had to dash out this morning well as quickly as I can move anywhere these days as DH left his lunch at home so I was nice and delivered it to his work! I have got some Moses basket sheets for the pram - thanks for the advice! Also bought another baby blanket and a bath support, and a couple of nursing style tops and some nursing pj's which were a bargain reduced from £20 to £6! Not the colour I would normally have bought but for that price why not!

TheBooMonster · 03/03/2015 15:41

the clipper RLT tastes of raspberries and it has slightly more raspberry leaf in that the holland and barrett stuff apparently.

HV was all a bit fluffy about the breastfeeding, I wanted someone who'd tell me that the 6 weeks we managed mostly expressing wasn't good enough but she was all gushy and lovely about the fact that I'd managed 6 weeks with DD. Going to have to hire a militant breastfeeder to bully me or something Hmm Have ordered the LLL 'Womanly art of breastfeeding' book off amazon to see if that helps.

squatting I personally prefer the sainsbury's clothes to tesco, and always go in when they have the start of season 25% off! I resent going into supermarkets and finding mass produced skirts at £10 when for a few £ more I can get one custom made... but I'm still waiting for DD's Dinosaur and Toadstools skirt that I ordered almost a month ago now... I was really hoping it would be here in time for DD's tumble tots photoshoot tomorrow :/

Oh I want a Magnum :(

Hope all your Mat Leave comes round quick. I'm 35+4 and I previously thought I could've stayed longer but no..when it came to it I was relieved to finish. Baby feels Sooo heavy today, bending over is so uncomfortable and am out of breath just going upstairs! Terrible! I am old though Grin

TheBooMonster · 03/03/2015 15:45

Also, I have this weird pressure in my head that I can't work out if it's left over from the cold or not I've had for the past million years, it's mostly fine if I keep my head still, but is awful when I move it :S and it turns out DD likes both chipsticks and Space Raiders, my snacks are officially no longer safe Sad

Chillyegg · 03/03/2015 15:49

SKYRA13 I've had that pain, my baby's breach and the mid wife said it's because the heads there. Does it hurt when you bend over?

BananaToast · 03/03/2015 15:57

Boo I bought The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding the other day based on advice here and have started reading. It's written in a friendly way but is quite militantly pro-breastfeeding so may give you the push you're after. It's definitely reinforced my desire to avoid medical intervention during birth if I can! Didn't realise the potential knock on effects on breastfeeding.

I feel really bad not reading any books. I've looked at lots of stuff online, but maybe I should get a book and actually read it!

ChickenMe · 03/03/2015 16:35

I'm reading TWAOB too. I didn't think it was that militant. GrinMaybe I am militant! I'm militant when it comes to me-not towards others. As in Im determined to BF but I don't care what others do. It is a very encouraging book though with the under tones of a nicely strict midwifeGrin
I'm a bit concerned about intervention too Banana but my Nan had a "classical" CS back in the 50s and she bf-d my uncle. So I try to think of people I know who have done it and collect positive BF stories since I may end up with a CS myself!

smogsville · 03/03/2015 16:53

Banana - and Chicken - fwiw I had about the most interventionist 'birth' possible with DD. ELCS under GA. EBF for nearly a year...

ChickenMe · 03/03/2015 16:57

Good to hear that smogsville.

Siarie · 03/03/2015 17:00

Smogs I wasn't thinking you were criticising, I just did my usual flick through early morning and thought I would throw my plans out there. So please don't worry! I would love to use friends or family but we moved three hours away from everyone a year ago and we don't have anyone here.

In fact if me and DH took turns going out we would be going out by ourselves so it would be pointless haha. DH does have his work friends but we enjoy each others company more than anything else. I think it's important to keep some adult time for the grown ups and agencies are really the only way to make that happen for us.

I am soo hungry lately! It's not even funny.

MoominMama22 · 03/03/2015 17:14

fi I've not read any books either.
I've been reading what to expect when your expecting and I've been recently trying to read up online a bit about caring for a newborn. I found some good video tutorials on breastfeeding online, but I think you can overload/scare yourself.
I have the womanly art of Breastfeeding and not even opened it! My mum gave me all her old books including one she got from the Hosp when I was born. I've been reading that because its pure comedy - pretty much everything in it is so outdated and just serves to remind me that any advice dished out now by professionals is likely to change, so follow your instincts you can't go too far wrong.

ChickenMe · 03/03/2015 17:37

I would love to read that old book Moomin. You should post some of the more ridiculous stuff.

Some of the stuff my MIL has said they did in her day (which is the 80s so hardly ancient):
-condensed milk Shock
-rusk in baby milk (both in lieu of bf)
-wean at 6 weeks Shock
-put baby to sleep on stomach in case it chokes
-pillow and duvet in cot for babyHmm
-cot bumpers
-dipping dummy in booze

londonlivvy · 03/03/2015 17:59

I think I'm unusual in that I don't like womanly art of breastfeeding. it's 450 pages of attachment parenting that's obvious to you if you like that stuff and all the bf advice in the world is useless before you've got a baby and milk. I resent having wasted so much of my maternity leave reading it. I think your time would much more usefully be spent on finding out where local bf cafes are, local bf advisors etc, so you can get real, specific, help, if you need it. Ploughing through a massive book when you've had three hours' sleep, trying to work out where you're going wrong, isn't the easiest.

RL20 · 03/03/2015 18:11

Chicken and Moomin - wow interesting to read how it was done a few years back! Never really gave it a thought to how different it possibly was. Although I think I had my dummy dipped in beer at one point! I remember my mum telling me, lol.

Had my first antenatal class today. I enjoyed it actually. I suppose you always get that one person though don't you.. There was a lady and her friend that were quite outspoken compared to the rest of us and were basically slagging off her partner throughout the class, and also finding it hilarious! Saying he will be useless at the birth so that's why she's chose her friend, and also that he would be more likely to be at the pub. Also she's expecting to have a quick birth because her partner has ADHD (what??!). The way she actually described it was, "my partner has ADHD so I'm expecting her to just does swooshing movements with hands pop right out! *cue lots of laughing from her and her friend, who are yes, grown women around the age of 30. Have no idea what her science is in that.
We also got given a weening spoon, a purple plastic one, that if baby's food is too hot, the spoon turns pink! I'm actually really impressed with it ha ha.

Everyone knows how picky I am with names and that I've only liked one throughout, but my partner doesn't like it. Today another one popped into my head, which to me is a massive thing! Had the approval from my mum, and text my partner about it but as he was at work I had no reply. So I rang him a bit later on and it was "no way!! That reminds me of such and such from such and such.." Of which I have no idea who it is and have never even met the person, and my partner probably hasn't seen whoever it is for years and years. I was so annoyed I ended the phone call! Angry Hormones I know but I've decided I'm just not going to mention any names now at all until baby is here. He's still not actively giving me any ideas on names and it's me who's constantly trying to think of one.
Also, I've decided with all that's gone on with the flat, ongoing work that hasn't even started yet and just keep having surveyors and contractors out to look at it to decide what they're doing with the pipes, we need to push forward and look for a house sooner rather than later. 4 days and counting with no heating or hot water has ripped me over the edge a bit!
So let's see how this one goes down when I mention it to him.

RL20 · 03/03/2015 18:14

That was meant to say* expecting her to just -does swooshing movements with hands- pop right out.

FiRaffe · 03/03/2015 18:32

There's always one.... just always be grateful when you see them - it means it's not you!!!hehe

RL20 · 03/03/2015 18:45

Yes I suppose so Firaffe! Grin Was very bizarre.

TheBooMonster · 03/03/2015 18:50

london I was all set to start going to a breastfeeding breakfast that was just down the road... and they've moved it to the effing surestart hub that's an hour and a half away by bus Angry I was more than a little pissed off, she kept saying oh it's only short drive away, completely oblivious to me telling her about 100 times I don't drive grumble grumble spuffle there's now actually nothing in my village, it's all in the surrounding ones cries a bit It'll actually be easier for me to go into the city, as I'd have to get a bus into he city and back out both ways to get to any of the hubs Sad

lol rl I'm with fir here! Be glad you're not the outspoken delusional one of the group :P
