Chicken - yes very therapeutic! I've got bundles of clothes and things that I'm currently listing on Gumtree but I'm so impatient and just want them gone now! Out of the way! If they don't happen to sell by the end of the week I'll just take them to the charity shop.

Oh Dances Sad I can't imagine how you're feeling but as long as your little one is doing fine, she'll be home with you before you know it. Another naive one here that didn't know you couldn't stay with your babies in hosp, but I suppose you have to nip back and forth from home some time don't you, and I suspect the nurses probably encourage that so you get some sleep. Although that must be difficult for you Thanks

smogsville · 02/03/2015 15:34

Yes big hugs Dances BrewBrewBrew

Speaking as a second time mum to be, make the most of the sleep now so you're well rested when the time comes to bring her home.

Lauren82000 · 02/03/2015 15:45

Ahh so uncomfortable today. My bump and back are really hurting. I took some paracetamol ages ago but its not touched it. Beginning to suspect this baby has turned again as I'm only getting movements right at the top now nothing down the side or bottom.

DH has just rang me at work asking for my password for the Wiggle account. (Cycling equipment website) He wants to start cycling again but needs some more thermals. I cautiously asked if that was such a good idea to be cycling off for hours at a time when I'm getting close to the end. He brushed me off saying I have ages to go. I told him he had 3 weeks (I'll be 36w then) before I cut him off activities and drinking. I don't think he was listening. Hmm Just said he'll be ok going out for a few hours and someone can pick him up? (Don't know anyone with a big enough car to get him and his bike in)

At what point are you cutting your OH off from drinking and activities?

TheBooMonster · 02/03/2015 15:59

minipie the nap was a no go. She spent an hour upstairs, but she was mostly causing distraction in my bedroom! She has a nap of about 2 hours and sleeps 14 hours at night when she's at my mums, here she generally won't nap unless she's ill and we're lucky to get 11 hours! Currently trying to teach her 'dog' by singing nicknack-paddy-whack with the lyrics entirely consisting of dog (it's how we got her saying mum, dad and nan...) over and over and over

Flowers dances I know it's hard, but the hospital is the best place for her, some babies just don't do well in the womb, DD didn't, and she's thriving now she's 2 (if a bit teeny)

smog I think packing a change of clothes for DH is a good idea either way, I've got a top and pair of pants packed for DH and a toothbrush etc and snacks and painkillers cos he's whiney that he'd just not think about taking no matter what time I go into labour, hospitals are hot and DH got a bit... yuck... last time!

also, stop the press, I might have gone on at DH enough that he's actually considering doing a massage course to prep for labour just to shut me up!

God I can't keep up today! Chatterboxes!!!

Work has been rubbish but only half an hour left.

So glad Tiger rose is doing well dances- i'm certain you're being a great mummy and you can remind her what trouble she caused you when she's a bit older!!!

Babiecakes - great you've got a date and sorry it's not quite as far away as you hoped but so exciting you get to meet little one soon!

Lauren - DH isn't much of a drinker but he's already checking before he has a pint if we're out that it's okay! He only works about a 30min walk from home but i'm definitely more worried about him getting back when I need him than he is. NCT gave him a false idea that labour doesn't happen quickly so he wouldn't need to come home, forgetting that maybe I wouldn't want to be alone (we'll see..I might want to kill him by then!)

cinnamongreyhound · 02/03/2015 16:15

If you make porridge use milk rather than water SquattingNeville, it will keep you fuller longer.

So sorry you're feeling blue Dancestomyowntune! I Can't imagine how you're feeling but as others have said you are a proper mummy to her and it's such a tiny part of her life in the long run. It was the hardest thing my friend found being torn being both her boys, wanting to be at hospital with her new baby but also trying to get to school and pick up her big boy as often as she could. Let's hope her stay is coming out and end and you can all be together under one roof soon Flowers

There is absolutely no way my Dh would stop drinking Lauren82000! He doesn't really go out anyway but drinks at home and wouldn't listen even if I told him to stop (which I would love him to do full stop). Good luck!

Lauren82000 · 02/03/2015 16:25

Well he isn't a big drinker but if we go out for tea he has a drink and also has one on a Sunday with my dad when we go round for tea. He has the odd drink in the house but I'm more bothered about him going out cycling and being 4 hours away when things kick off. It's a long time to be stuck with an almost 4 year old by yourself if your in labour. Because I was induced last time we had a date for getting the ball rolling so not had the spontaneous water breaking/labour at home experience. I just think he thinks we have ages to go as my due date isn't until the 22nd and DD was a full 2 weeks late, but considering term is 37 weeks which is when I finish work I don't want him being too far away. He conveniently works at the hospital but would still need to come home to pick me up. I'm sure I'd do fine while he walked home or grabbed a lift off someone. (It's only a 10min drive or 25min walk so I'm not worried about that.)

brummagem · 02/03/2015 16:29

Good luck Babiecakes hope everything goes well for you on Wednesday.

dances it must be so hard for you but on the tenuous upside every day is a day closer to her being home permanently. My friend had her baby emcs at 31 weeks 3lb girl and it was about 6 weeks before she got her home and she found it excruciatingly long but it was worth it as she had an amazingly strong little fighter when she did leave hospital. Praying you get the green light soon.Flowers

StuntNun · 02/03/2015 16:30

I could really do with not having this baby today! I have a hot water bottle on my back and I'm going to have a bath when DH finishes work. I'm not having regular contractions and I haven't had a show but I do feel a bit damp down there which makes me wonder if my waters are leaking. If the pain lets up then I'll go and pack my bag - I already have everything I need so I just need to pack the stuff.

RL20 · 02/03/2015 16:31

Lauren I'm afraid I'm with the others. It's great if you have a partner that would listen to you if you were to ask him to stop drinking etc, but I haven't got one of those!
However he doesn't drink often as neither did I. Activity-wise, he doesn't really have a hobby but does have a gym membership (because I work at a leisure centre). So I'm more than happy for him to go to the gym whenever, not that he does that often though. He's the main breadwinner at the moment and always has been so with him working 5/6 days a week I'd rather him have some sort of release rather than feeling like he's being stuck inside

RL20 · 02/03/2015 16:32

Stunt how far are you? Hope everything's ok!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/03/2015 16:33

I don't disagree with you at all, it's very sensible but my Dh tends to think it'll all work out ok! I was induced with both of mine so haven't had spontaneous panicking labour. Plus now we are going to Addenbrookes we have over an hours drive so it would be nice for him to capable of that! I'm similar when running, I always take my phone but don't always have signal and once you're at the furthest point you always have that minimum time to get back (not that I've done a long distance for a while). Maybe the cycling is a knee jerk reaction to knowing he'll have limited time soon?

cinnamongreyhound · 02/03/2015 16:35

Sorry x posts Stuntnun, when I was induced with ds1 they told me to put a pad in to keep an eye on water leakage. Have you called anyone to ask for advice?

PenguinPoser · 02/03/2015 16:37

dances it must be so hard having Tiger-Rose in hospital still. She sounds like she is doing well and I really hope they can give you an idea of when she can come home soon - so at least you have an approximate date to look forward to.

Lauren I can understand your worries about DH! Mine was going to stop drinking (not that he actually has been whilst I haven't either!) at 37w and now I'm being induced then anyway as you say it (hopefully) removes the element of surprise of when things will happen and where he will be. Why does he have to cycle 4 hours away, are there any routes closer to home that might keep him happy for a few weeks? Sorry you're feeling so uncomfortable today as well.

I've just been and got the stuff to start my batch cooking! Had to start with flapjack (as I want to eat them!) which are currently in the oven, apparently they freeze well. I also have ingredients for another batch of pasta sauce, chilli, cottage pie and corned beef/potato/onion pasties. Hope there is room in the freezer!

PenguinPoser · 02/03/2015 16:38

Sorry cross post stuntnun have you phoned maternity triage for advice? Hope things are ok!

mswibble · 02/03/2015 16:44

Gah, that was a waste of time. Prodigy hair colour is by far the worst colour ive ever used! Greys havent been touched, the conditioner is impossible to wash out so will need to re-wash again tonight and ive just realised its not even taken on my 'virgin' hair. rinsing dye out over the kitchen sink with a 7month bump is not fun! Other than that ive had quite a nice day off, im off every Monday now until I finish. Makes such a difference!

My mum and dad brought round their old recliner yesterday so its all set up in the bambinos room. I love it. Keep going in and just sitting down, looking around. Its my happy place at the moment!

My OH isnt much of a drinker at the moment but has the odd JD and coke on a Saturday night. I dont think I'll be asking him to not drink unless I go over perhaps. He doesnt drink to the point of getting paraletic so we'd just jump in a cab, we're only 10mins away from the hospital.

StuntNun · 02/03/2015 16:50

The hot water bottle is helping a lot with the pain and the contractions have stopped for now. Apparently the thing to do is put a pad on then lie down for half an hour to an hour, when you sit up there will be a mini-gush if your waters have broken. With DS1 my waters broke before I went into labour but they just trickled out continuously. With DS2 they broke my waters to speed things up during labour. With DS3 I somehow managed to lose them all without noticing before I went into labour. This is my fourth baby so you would think I would know whether or not I was in labour by now.

Lauren82000 · 02/03/2015 16:51

I'm with the others Stunt give them a quick ring and get some advice.

Penguin he wouldn't particularly have a choice how far away he would go as he cycles with friends and they like the big hill runs which tend to be pretty long. 4 hours is the maximum he would be out though typically they are 2 hours. I'm just worse case scenario-ing.

On the subject of batch cooking my boss dropped in today and as we were chatting about things she told us she had just filled her freezer with a meat delivery and bagged it all into portions to stick in the freezer. Her next job is to prep all the veg and bag that too. Then all she has to do is pull a bag of each and stuff it in the slow cooker. Sounded like a great idea but I wouldn't have the patience I don't think to stand in the kitchen prepping veg.

Just had one of my students read my palm to guess the sex. Made me chuckle when she asked if it was definitely 1 baby as I have twin boy lines. She has guessed before and said its a girl but she has now changed her mind now I'm bigger and thinks its a boy. Grin Tha'ts pretty much everyone thinking its a boy now. 4-7 weeks left to find out.

mswibble · 02/03/2015 16:51

Missed stuntnuns post there, have you rang your midwife? I hope its nothing and baby keeps put for a bit longer!

RL20 · 02/03/2015 17:02

Mswibble not heard of Prodigy but depending on how stubborn your greys are, you can get colour which is specially made for grey (we used to use Matrix when I worked in a salon), and I'm sure there'll be an alternative in home colours too. Also during pregnancy your hair might not even take to the colour full stop! Something to do with hormones, I remember learning about it at college. I put some foils of bleach at 12% in my hair yesterday and after ages it had barely touched it! Which is surprising as I've got no build up of colour on my hair and have had no colour on it since I was around 11/12 weeks pregnant. Strange!

Stunt - glad everything seems to have settled. Hey I'm sure every pregnancy is different whether it's your second, fourth, or tenth! Don't be too hard on yourself. I'll remember that pad advice too.

FiRaffe · 02/03/2015 17:06

Hope all is okay Stuntnun. Always worth getting checked if you're not sure!

dancestomyowntune · 02/03/2015 17:24

Stuntnun I am glad I'm not the only one who got to fourth baby and still wasn't sure when things started getting going! My fourth was the only one of my pregnancies where my waters went naturally. I bent down to get something and heard a tiny pop and there was a tiny trickle. I rang the midwife and said I really wasn't sure! She came out and said yes, definitely they had gone!

The first three they were all broken during labour to speed things up. Tiger-Rose was obviously an emergency section, and no waters anywhere near going!

ChickenMe · 02/03/2015 17:39

My OH does not really drink either. One beer with a meal. At home he has mainly that Fosters Radler which is like a shandy. You're right to bring it up, and the bike ride Lauren. I hadn't thought about it but I will warn him now.
OH wanted to go up north (3 hours away) to look at a car. I said no. He was a bit grumpy about that. I don't think they always understand how nervous we might feel and we want our OHs with us, we don't want anyone else.

londonlivvy · 02/03/2015 18:14

Lauren I'm 34+5 and DH has just got back from a week cycling in Spain. I won't stop him cycling til d day. it took me two days to get DD1 out so can't see the rush and he's rarely out for more than 3 hours.

DH doesn't drink really. max of about 3 units a month, so I can't see it being an issue. To be honest I just leave stuff up to him. If he were to be cycling or away with work and he misses it, then he's a grown up and that's his decision. It's not like his presence made labour much better - it's just a tough old gig, regardless. So I could always drop DD1 at my friend and get a taxi if it came to it. I suppose I see Dh as a bonus, rather than an essential.

londonlivvy · 02/03/2015 18:17

My DH is still due to have a business trip to Italy at some point before D day. As I say, I'm being a bit fatalistic, as loads of things could happen that might mean he misses it. He can hardly refuse all business trips for two months!
