Ladies, pleeeeease don't worry about labour! I'm on number 3, if it was that bad, I wouldn't be doing it again. Labour with dd1 was terrible, I got myself worked up in such a state everything was 10 times worse, mws were awful with me etc. yet I did it all again 2 years later having learned from my mistakes. I was so so calm, got the natural birth I wanted, start to finish was only 8 hours, my god it was even more painful than with dd1 but I loved every minute. It's my favourite part of pregnancy :) going for natural birth again, hoping to do most of it at home and then MLU and water birth. I wanted a water birth with dd1 but was too afraid to ask, think in the state I was in though they wouldn't have let me. I think, being prepared and keeping calm (and excited!) works wonders :) I am so looking forward to labour this time :D

Blooming dd2 banged her knee during the night so came through sobbing at 1.19 am.... Took me til DH got up at 5.30 to get back to sleep. Absolutely exhausted this morning! I should have been up by 6 to get my cakes started for the day :(

DeladionInch · 23/02/2015 07:49

mine was fine just looooooooooong! biggest regret is not stopping at a supermarket on the way in and seeing if I could win a years shopping for my waters breaking in there Wink

Sundaysmumisfullofwine · 23/02/2015 08:30

I think you just have to be quite pragmatic about birth - baby is coming out one way or another! I'd just quite like to be awake for it this time.

9+1 today, midwife tomorrow. Have a massive belly already.

GoooRooo · 23/02/2015 09:15

My first birth was very looooooooooong but in the grand scheme of things it was fine and I actually enjoyed most of it (except the ring of fire - boy that stings!) I had a birth most people wouldn't want - waters went, was induced, took three days, delivered on my back in a bed with an epidural that only half worked - but despite all that it was fine! And the baby was totally worth it!

I am looking forward to giving birth this time (and hope it might be a bit quicker). First timers don't worry - it'll all be okay Smile

I'm going to do a hypnobirth course. I think there is nothing to lose apart from a bit of money and if nothing else it will help give me relaxation techniques. My mum ended up doing similar with me. It wasn't called hypnobirthing then and not common, but my dad was a psychiatric nurse and a colleague offered to do some of this type of thing with her. She is so not the sort of person you'd stereotype to do it but found it really helped her stay calm which she maintains is the best thing you can do.

showtunesgirl · 23/02/2015 09:41

Seriously? It HAS to go smoother this time.

First time round was 22 hours, back-to-back, then "failure to progress" and I had an EMCS where DD's leg was bent back the wrong way at the right knee.

The hospital staff treated me terribly including trying to yank me out of bed to shower when I was in pain and a maternity support worker accused me of "not taking motherhood seriously".

I was in hospital for six days with an infection and I went into urinary retention so had to have an emergency catheter put back in at 3am when I thought I was going to burst. I had to be bagged for a further two weeks.

Then when I was finally discharged, my parents popped round, had their picture taken and then buggered back off abroad the next morning.

DH's parents were less than useless too and had their pictures taken and promptly left. Sad

deladion ha ha I did consider maybe heading to waitrose or some such when I'm in labour in the hopes if winning some free shopping ha ha! A lady at dds school gave birth in sainsburys toilets :/

11 weeks today :D after much searching around last night, seriously, little bugger evaded me for like an hour, wasn't where he normally is at all, I heard his little heart is still happily beating away :) sooo excited to say my scan is next week!!! Just got to get through a couple of cakes, a consultation, dds pre op and then it's scan time :D this year is going to be frickin awesome!!

lovesmycake · 23/02/2015 10:16

13 weeks today just had my scan and now it all feels real :) The lady doing it said she is fairly sure it's a little girl which is pretty exciting and terrifying at the same time now just roll on the 18 week scan.

Oh and I've finally stopped throwing up still have moments of nausea every day but lessening all the time :D

10 weeks today!

Oh, and the weekend drama? My immunity to rubella isn't as high as they'd like. Nothing to worry about and they'll sort it in September. That was all...

Sigh!

itssangriaoclock · 23/02/2015 10:47

Last night they will give you a booster after delivery.

11wks 1day all bloods come back normal. 9 days till scan single figures now

itssangriaoclock · 23/02/2015 10:47

Wow cake didn't think they could see until 14-16wks x

lovesmycake · 23/02/2015 10:50

yeah I had no idea they could tell - It was a private scan with 3D doodah no idea if that makes a difference and it was a pretty clear picture? anyway only 5 weeks till it's confirmed or not so I'm happy to assume it's right till proven otherwise :)

Toffeegirl39 · 23/02/2015 10:52

lovesmycake Great pics! Looks similar to mine, I'm just 13 weeks too.
What made them think its a girl? We thought ours looked like a girl too!

Cornberry · 23/02/2015 10:56

lovesmycake I'm so confused that your sonographer gave you a guess. I was really hoping for something like that at mine and when I jokingly said to my OH it looks like a boy doesn't it? she said "it looks like a baby! All babies look the same at this stage".

lovesmycake · 23/02/2015 10:59

It was on another one of the pictures were she went down through the body she got a really clear look and pointed out these three dots?? Then said if it was a boy it would look pretty different. Later on she went back and did it again and said yip she was pretty sure. I googled it and it is possible to tell from 11 weeks apparently if you get a baby in the right position and the latest tech ultrasound.

lovesmycake · 23/02/2015 11:01

Just to clarify I live in Norway we paid for this scan privately as they don't scan you till 18 weeks here. It was a half hour appt 3D with various bells and whistles that I don't think are available on the NHS and she did say of course she couldn't be sure no-one ever can. I do know that here they are much more relaxed about telling you its very rare in Norway that people wait to find out at birth.

mrsdos · 23/02/2015 11:02

lovesmycake what an exciting monday morning for you! Smile

I am having a not so great morning, off to collect a prescription at lunch as I think I have a uti Sad but on the plus side only 4 days til we get to see our Potato!

Cornberry · 23/02/2015 11:09

lovesmycake thanks that does make more sense. Surprised they don't scan you until 18 weeks... I always think of Norway as being quite advanced but this seems unusually late! Perhaps the 12 week date is arbitrary, must I thought it was timed to test for certain abnormalities they can only detect around that time.

lovesmycake · 23/02/2015 11:36

I know cornberry I also think it's odd and I can't really work out why they would wait it makes me wonder if you have the same choices if something is wrong? One of the reasons we had this scan was for the nuchal fold measurement which I guess for some reason is something Norwegians don't see as a priority. It is something I have pondered because they are certainly not short of cash in the healthcare system.

Cornberry · 23/02/2015 11:53

Perhaps most people just automatically get a private scan. It does seem odd. Either way I'm sure you were wise to get the early scan, and it sounds like it was pretty comprehensive. I've just been trying to compare your pictures to mine to see if I can figure out what I'm having but I just can't see anything. I wish I had the resolve to wait until the birth to find out but Im already pretty keen to find out and so is OH so I'm sure I'll crack! I'm pretty worried about the horrors of labour ("it feels like a car is coming out of your backside" according to my mum - thanks for that!) and I've read that the anticipation of finding out the sex can help a bit.

lovesmycake · 23/02/2015 12:09

It wasn't one of the above pictures she could tell from so they won't tell you much I'm afraid it was one of the transverse ones so like looking at the top of the head except at stomach level if that makes sense!

As for labour don't worry to much - as a previous poster said woman who had a good experience don't talk about it much because you sound like a smug bitch. Yes it hurts but for me its a pretty fond memory of one of the most empowering moments of my life (ducks as everyone else on the thread throws their shoes at me Wink)

NatalieBee · 23/02/2015 12:28

lastnight My immunity to rubella was the same, non existent Hmm I've defiantly had the jabs tho. It's necessary to do nursing!

I am officially stressed about September it's not even funny my lease on the flat runs out end of September and we're moving back to Northern Ireland, have to do it then as don't want to get a whole new lease..I am insane it is official Shock I'm due August 30th!!

Chuch21 · 23/02/2015 13:55

Great scan picks loves one week today until I will hopefully see my little bean!

Question: does anyone have any recommendations to ease cold sunrooms? (Nasal congestion mainly)

Bippidee · 23/02/2015 14:06

Saline spray is good for colds and steam inhalations.

And yes, I agree re birth stories. Mine was fine.

I would recommend reading a Nicole Croft book, the good birth companion, and Ina May Gaskin's guide to childbirth.

Becca83 · 23/02/2015 14:51

My 9 week old blob! Ha ha..
