It's me... I can't believe I get to start this!

I'm due 2nd Jan 2005... Actually AF is not due for 4 days(!!) but have done 3 tests and all positive. I am only 11 days pregnant.

It's a bit lonely here on my own, I hope there will be lots of you joining me soon, especially from 'ttc thread 6'.

well - my hcg level is at 1500 (!!) at 5 weeks and 2 days, so that rules out an ectopic,

and pretty much tells us it's TWINS!

Would explain why I'm so sick already.

Just a little scared.... Have ds(4.5) and dd (19mths), so we will be busy.

Smellymelly, CONGRATS!!! Wow!! That is so amazing. Can't wait to hear about your next scan.

Cab - Congrats to you too!

Had a call from the GP yesterday and he's arranged for us to have a nuchal fold scan between 12-16 weeks. Is anyone else having one of these?

Report
cab · 10/05/2004 19:27

Is the fold thing similar to an oscar test?

Smelly keeping my fingers crossed for your scan.

Thanks for the good wishes folks. Did another pg test today - still quite faint - this is going to cost me a fortune. Anyone know where I can get a job lot of cheap tests - cos not going to believe I'm pregnant until the baby's in my arms. Tomorrow I might have the guts to phone the docs and ask for some help from the early pregnancy unit.

Jimjams · 10/05/2004 20:24

not this time tex - at least I don;'t think they do it down here- haven't been to docs yet.

Had it for both ds1 and ds2 though.

Looks like I'll be have a large number of scans!!

Hi Cab, welcome.

The Nuchal fold scan is at the same time as the dating scan, (if they do it) they measure the thickness of skin at the back of the neck to see if there is a chance of any problems. But a friend of mine recently had a high risk result and had amnio, but had the all clear and their gorgeous dd is 4 months old now. So I wouldnt worry too much.

Congratulations smellymelly!

Do you all have to pay to get an early scan? I won't get a scan till at least 12 weeks here - I haven't even got a doctors appointment until the 25th May. It would be nice to know that everything is ok before then really.

Hi pollyana - I THINK I must be due about the same date as you - but could be a week later (can't remember exact date of last period).

On scans - I'm hoping early scans are offered to folk who have had problems in the past, but not sure. Late on today phoned my docs and got an appointment for Tues and will ask re an early scan - if the answer's no I'll probably either try to get one privately or do regular pg tests just to reassure me.

Hope all is well with you.

Pollyanna - I wont be getting a scan till 14 weeks so am kind of in the same boat as you.

I do have a visit to my Gp at 7+ weeks though and am wondering is that way to early to hear a heartbeat ? I think it was 10 or 12 weeks when I first heard it on my last pregnancy. Does anyone know ?
It would be nice to get some reassurance.

BB - Just jumping in here to answer your query. Yes 7 wks too early to hear the heartbeat with a doptone. From 6wks onwards though they should be able to see the heartbeat on a scan.

If you haven't got a history of miscarriage then they probably won't offer you an early scan....

whispers< ...although there are rather unethical ways around that....

pollyana- it depends on your area. In my last pregnancy I had scans at 7, 9, 13 , 20 and 30 something weeks. This time my first scan will be at 20 weeks I think.

The Nuffield has hospitals that do scans. Or babybond. But I'm not sure how "medical" babybond is iyswim.

I think I'm getting a dating scan around 10 weeks, the nuchal fold (which I had to specifically request) at 12-16 weeks and the 'abnommaly' (sp?) scan at around 20 weeks.

In Tokyo we saw and heard the heartbeat at 6 weeks but that was with some super-duper Japanese ultrasound machine. I burst into tears at the sound of it. It's just the most amazing sound.

Is smelly the only one of us with morning sickness so far? I keep waiting for mine to kick in, it was awful with DS, but nothing much yet. I've already ordered my Preggie Pops just in case. They're herbal lollies that I used last time and they really helped.

Ahhh. I was wondering if those preggie pops things worked??

I will have to get them in by the truckload!!

How long do they ease the nausea for Tex111?

Sorry Tex - no real sickness here yet. (wasn't sick with dd either). Was pleased to feel a bit nauseous this morning - good to have some indication (but not too much) that things are fine. Done yet another pg test today - no longer need just the right light and a fair bit of imagination to see the line.

BigBird · 11/05/2004 17:31

thx toothache!

I didn't know if those preggie pops worked ! Where can u get them ?
BTW no nausea yet and I had a fair bit of it on DD (no vomiting though luckily).

Tex111 · 11/05/2004 20:13

Cab, glad to hear that line is getting darker!

The preggie pops really helped me. The effect doesn't last very long though. I used them whenever I had to be in a car, on a train, etc and I didn't throw up once which was pretty amazing. I preferred the sour fruit ones but they come in a few different flavours like ginger and lavender. I'll just get the link....

I am quite lucky in that I will automatically get a nuchal fold scan with the dating scan - but last time it was at 14 weeks. I just do loads of pregnancy tests too until then!

Congratulations Cab- I'm not quite sure when my due date is either - periods were all over the place before (hence reason why I got pregnant when I hadn't intended to).

I will try those preggie pops tex - I had terrible nausea for the last 3 pregnancies - it doesn't start until 7 weeks, but then carries on for ever! (strange how you want the nausea to start really!). I really hate the sickness and the tiredness...

Anyone thinking of names yet? I know it's quite early but I love finding names! I've got a huge list that includes notes for each name like if it's a family name, if it's in the top ten lists for England or the US. We didn't totally decide DS's name until we saw him and I'm sure we'll do the same thing this time. So much fun!

Tex - you know that's about the only thing I haven't been thinking about - yet
You got any yet?

nausea started yesterday. I won't be sick- I'm not in pregnancy. Hoping it holds off a bit - I have Japanese exams coming up.

Happy today though as had a letter saying we have been awarded higher rate mobility. Yeah. I won't have to rugby tackle ds1 across car parks when I'm 9 months ups the duff- will be able to park in a disabled bay. Hooray! Was beginning to worry about how I would keep up with him if he decided to do a runner.

Ok - I got my hcg level wrong for tuesday. It was 15,000!!

And for yesterday it was 25,000.

They said it hasn't doubled, but not to expect normal things to happen in a 'Twin' pregnancy.

Also warned me, that just coz it starts out as twins, it may not end up as twins. Nice huh?

Your lucky not to be sick Jimjams, I'm sick about twice a day, but it's the constant feeling of wanting to that is very hard to deal with... Thankfully DP is being very supportive.

Jimjams - good news for ds1, and Japanese - WOW!!

The nausea and vomiting can be terrible. Last time I was throwing up 2-3 times a day. The weird thing was that I could feel so sick and still be starving at the same time!

Jimjams, good luck on your exams! We took a few Japanese lessons but we were both pretty terrible at it. Such a complicated language.

Smellymelly, hope your morning sickness doesn't last long. Since it starts so early with twins does it stop earlier too? I'm so excited for you!

Cab, I've got a bunch of names lined up but I know I'll change my mind a hundred times in the next 8 months. At the moment I like Finlay for a boy and Maud for a girl. The problem with Maud is that it's pronounced quite differently in England and Texas, but then I guess everything sounds different with a Texas accent!
