smellymelly · 28/04/2004 12:43

It's me... I can't believe I get to start this!

I'm due 2nd Jan 2005... Actually AF is not due for 4 days(!!) but have done 3 tests and all positive. I am only 11 days pregnant.

It's a bit lonely here on my own, I hope there will be lots of you joining me soon, especially from 'ttc thread 6'.

Hi everyone. Hope you're all feeling ok and not too bored with being pregnant. I'm 30 weeks this week - it feels like a real milestone for me - all downhill from here.

I went to the doctors yesterday about my dodgy stomach (it's been bad for about 5 weeks now I think) - it has scared the life out of me, he is testing for toxmoplasmosis and listeria and I made the mistake of reading what the effects of these are on the baby. Too worrying for words. (they also test for cancer too, but I am blanking that out for now).

And I have got obsessed with buying a pushchair (a slight addiction for me already) - I need a double one so I am researching this - anyone got any views on the E3?

Smellymelly, haven't heard from you for a while - are you ok? How did your scan go on twin 1's amniotic fluid?

pollyanna · 19/10/2004 18:30

Artyjoe, before my current scare I'd have said it was fine to have stilton at Christmas, but now I'm not too sure. What does everyone else think?

fufmum · 20/10/2004 11:45

Hi ladies
am feeling a bit under the weather today, think i have a tummy bug as keep going to the toilet!
I had a great time at home at the weekend for my birthday and i am moving AGAIN next weekend inti a friends house where she lives with her parents. Not ideal but needs must and all that. Roll on December when i will be able to see a light at the end of all this crap and be able to go home for 4 months and be with my family. Not exactly how i planned having my first child....on my own, moving every 2 months, just hoping it all turns out ok.
Anyway take care everyone!

artyjoe · 20/10/2004 22:26

hi Fufmum

Sorry to hear you are under the weather, i hope you feel better in the morning. Also sorry to hear about your constant moving at the moment, hopefully four months with your family will be fantastic with a new bundle of joy!

I actually don't feel that bad this week, not normal by any means but no massive complaints... my only real problem is I'm feeling real worried about my weight gain and have a feeling when I've given birth it may seem to big a challenge and after waiting 9 years for my baby i don't want to find myself depressed with the wreck of a body I'm left with

I met a woman in Sainsbury's last night who was due the week before me and had a craving for grapefruit juice...why do i get the craving for peanut and banana sandwiches...has to be the most calorific food on the planet!

Hey ho, I'll be joining the weightloss forum in February then

fufmum · 21/10/2004 13:52

Hi Joe, Not feeling too bad today but still not right, think i may be getting another bloody cold!
Try not to worry about your weight too much as like you say you are gonna be onto it as soon as you have had the baby so at least you will be doing something about it! I know how you feel i lost 3 stones and it took me about a yr and half. I did it with WW and so i am hoping all the weight i have gained through being PG, which i think so far is about 1 stone, maybe a little more, will be a little easier to get rid off once i stop breast feeding and can get back to a strict diet!

smellymelly · 22/10/2004 16:51

Hi - I'm still here (thanks for asking Pollyanna).

I have had a chest infection for 5 weeks now, and I just feel so ill, really had enough now!! Every time I cough I have to try really hard not to wet myself (!), and sometimes I cough so much I'm sick... very pleasant.

The scan to check the amniotic fluid went fine thanks. They found a deeper pool very low down, although she has less than boy twin, it is ok.

They were both head down, but that is still changing daily, I feel hiccups really low, and also quite high too, so I can tell where they are.

Yesterday I started washing a mountain of baby clothes, getting excited now. We have bought most things now, so I'm just getting ready to pack my bag.

I'm 30 weeks on Sunday - so only a maximum of 7 weeks to go!!

Hi yes i do know what i'm having, i had a private scan at home to find out. I am having a boy! What about you?
So you live in SW london, i live in North London but i am originally from the north of England. I am only in London for another 8 weeks and then i'm going home to my parents as i am going to have the baby on my own, father was a waste of space!
Anyway hope to see you around here, keep well!

artyjoe · 25/10/2004 11:56

Hi Izzyrubi,

Glad to hear there are people in the world who sail through this pregnancy lark, I've had the complete opposite, but hey, only 10 weeks left for me...the hospital says 17th but I'm convinced for the 1st January...fingers crossed.

Am sick of being prodded and poked at the moment, had another blood test on Friday and, this is no joke, the bruise is probably 8 inches long and 2 inches thick, I've never seen nothing like it, all from one vein...very strange. I couldn't straighten my arm for 24 hours so obviously something wasn't right. Hey ho, hopefully this is the last one now. Having said that, I'd love to have another scan to see the baby now she's enrolled in kick boxing

Bought yet another outfit in M&P's at the weekend, I just can't help myself! I'm going to be soooo broke once she arrives

Have got all the sterilised bottles and formula now ready for my hospital bag so there is no excuse for them to pop her on my boob! Definitely going straight to bottle, after 9 months of hell I need to reclaim my body asap

Pollyanna, after hearing about your scare I'll do without Stilton until after the birth, I'll pop some in my hospital bag along with the champagne and egg mayonnaise sandwiches!

SM, sorry to hear about your chest infection, must be awful. Are you having a C section if you only have 7 weeks to go? You must be huge!!

Hope everyone is well. If anyone lives in London and fancies free tickets to the Urban Interiors show at the Business Design Centre - Islington, let me know as I'm exhibiting there this week.

smellymelly · 26/10/2004 10:15

Welcome Izzyrubi - I'm having a boy and a girl!! And I already have one of each... I also had to find out with each one, I'm not good with suprises!
Have you been to any ante-natal / parentcraft classes? It is a great way to meet other expectant Mums. Your midwife should be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi Artyjoe - Your pregnancy sounds as good as mine! Funny isn't it you waited all that time, and I went through the ectopic last year, yet we can't wait for it to be over. I'm trying to make the most of the good bits though, as I don't intend on having any more!

I've been watching living and discovery health on Sky as I love all the baby programmes, and there is one on multiple births - this women had a dd of 8, 2 year old b/g twins, and then had bloody triplets!!!! Aggghhh! She was well into her 40's and hubby looked like he was in his 50's - how the hell do they cope?

BTW they are inducing me at 37 weeks, as they give all twin mums that option where I live - and I will take it no question! I will do everything I can to stay away from having a c-section, as I want to be able to look after the babies properly when they come. I have ahd the other 2 normally (with an epidural though!) so I know the benfits of doing it that way. The only way I will let them cut me open is in a serious emergency! Poor dh has done everything for me and the kids since the first time I threw up, and I think it is time he had a break too!

OP posts:
artyjoe · 27/10/2004 10:43

Oh Smellymelly, please tell me what the good bits are so I can try and concentrate on them, try as I might the best I can come up with is the kicking in the belly...but that's taking on a negative side as we're supposed to be counting the kicks now and she is doing nowhere near 10 yet! I'm assuming because I'm large that she's maybe going hell for leather in there but I just can't feel them yet, it took me a good few weeks more than 'normal' to feel her in the first place, so maybe that's it.

If they are inducing you at 37 weeks what's your due date now? I'm still convinced mine is coming on New Years eve, but maybe this is just blind hope!

Am manning an exhibition from Friday for 3 days at 10 hours a day, that should be interesting in my condition!

Hope everyone is well x

smellymelly · 27/10/2004 17:16

Don't worry too much Artyjoe - I can feel one twin loads and the other hardly any, I'm normally a size 10/12 so I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Yeah, I guess the good bits are that you have a life inside you, which only us women can do, I still feel it is a bit of a miracle to be able to create a baby. Hope that doesn't sound too crap. Also I have to appreciate all the stuff dh is doing for me, as I won't get away with it after.

I think they will induce me about the 2nd week of Dec, but I don't want to work out exactly when, until they give me a date, I just know it is about 6.5 weeks from now!!! Yippee.

Got to rush off and get ds from a party...bye.
xxx

OP posts:
artyjoe · 27/10/2004 22:46

Hi SM, you are completely right about the life inside us, this is going to sound really pathetic now but that's the one thing I don't concentrate on or think about as it's the only thing that overwhelms me completely and it brings on the tears every time!

My Midwife says I will probably need counselling after giving birth as my cup may runneth over to the point where I may be sat in a corner dribbling on myself No joke, she's given me the number of a therapist just in case!

When I was just 6 weeks PG I had a suspected miscarriage so I only had true Joy for a week until we realised how fragile it all was, I think this is why I am finding it easier to focus on getting through the pregnancy rather than absorbing the one thing that might make it feel more bearable...

Anyway, I've been planning the month of December due to giving up work early, so that will keep me busy, all this homemade baking, good lord, people will think I'm turning mumsy!

It sounds like you will have two new little ones by Christmas Day, what a lovely way to bring in the new year x

BigBird · 28/10/2004 10:11

Hi all - just catching up ! I'm 30 weeks now and feeling great. I still dont know what i'm having - I like surprises !! It is mad to think that this time last yr all I could think about was getting pregnant and now it's nearly over !
Good luck to everyone in the coming weeks.

fufmum · 01/11/2004 11:56

Hey ladies it has all gone quiet again in the Jan thread. I hope everyone is ok and now on the countdown to D-Day
Well i am really well and all ready for my DS arrival. I am 29 weeks and feeling very happy, just can't wait to finish work now and that's in 7 weeks
I went shopping at the weekend, for ME, something i haven't done in a while! i bought 2 new bra and some boots but had to take tham all back next day as bra were too small, can't believe how big my boobs are getting and my boots i had to get a bigger size as i think my feet are beginning to swell a little, ah well another of the joys i guess

artyjoe · 01/11/2004 14:42

Hi Fufmum

Know what you mean about the clothes, I had to take back two pairs of boots this week, so I have now given up and am saving myself until after the birth. My ankles are swelling more often than not now and I have had to start cutting my socks up, my skin is also turning purple from the backs of my knees to my bum due to sitting down too much...Lord only knows what body I'm going to be left with

I am also 29 weeks, so not toooo long to go, good distractions with bonfire night, DP's birthday and preparing for Christmas so hopefully it should pass quicker. Have bought my maternity leave forward so am only doing 1 day a week from this week onwards, after completely overdoing it at my exhibition this weekend I feel I now need to stop taking the mic and get some rest!

Am gaining weight by the day now rather than by the week and the chocolate has come out...anyone else gaining a lot at this stage?

DP's birthday in two weeks and he wants to be in nature, he did suggest walking up box hill (stupid arse) as we used to go trekking, but as I can hardly walk the dog at the moment this isn't going to be an option. Any ideas for a 43 year Bday?

Joe

fufmum · 01/11/2004 14:56

Joe you lucky beggar, finishing for mat leave, i wish!
I am definantely puttin on weight more quickly now but i'm glad as i was just fat looking for so long but now it's pretty obvious that i am pregnant
Hmmm ideas for a 43rd birthday, well i think trekking is out of the question so maybe a nice meal and a massage for two when you get home
You really need to take it easy now as i just found out when i nearly went flying down the stairs with my hands full of ironing, gripped the bannister with strength i never knew i had, silly sod!

Wid · 01/11/2004 20:40

Hi everyone.

Just been playing catch up. I'm 31 weeks this week, but could do with being 21. The builder took the wall down this weekend between the kitchen and the dining room, installed an RSJ and blocked up the dining room door; the French windows went in last week. All we need now is a plasterer and then for us to decorate - and a new floor. I don't know what my hormones are up to at the moment. We've hardly done anything to this house since moving in 3.5 years ago and at 31 weeks pregnant we're renovating! Crazy or what? Thank goodness I'm feeling well: must be those Pregnacare vitamins.

I'm obsessed with finding a second-hand pram at the moment. I still have the M&P travel system from DS so can't justify paying out £500 for a new pram. Does anyone have any experience of Cosatto, Bebecar or Bertini? The M&P ones are sold very quickly and expensively second hand.

Thanks and lots of happy wishes to you all.

fufmum · 02/11/2004 12:51

Hi Wid, bloody hell you really are taking on a challenge there, hope it all works out for you.

I just had ante-natal chek this morning and i am 29weeks but doctor said he couldn't tell which way the baby was lying yet, it's still too early!!?? Is this right or is he as useless as i think he is? I have made an appointment to see a midwife at hospital for next week so i can be reassured by someone who knows what they are doing! My docotr has never been the greatest as he checks the heartbeat with one of those cavemen upside down glass things and has never measured my bump yet. Also the fact that the whole surgery is overun by workmen and looks like a building site doesn't help matters either.

smellymelly · 03/11/2004 11:51

Fufmum - I find the only true way of knowing which way babies are lying is with a scan. In my last pregnancy my midwife thought my fibroid was the baby's head!!

I think both of mine are head down now as I get hiccups really low down. Maybe you could try a feel for that... but I wouldn't worry till about 37 weeks. My cut off with twins is about 32 weeks, so we are hoping they stay put now!

BTW Fufmum how are you feeling about being a single Mum, sorry to be so forward, but I had both my first 2 on my own, (got back with ex-p to conceive dd) so if you need any support you only have to ask!

OP posts:
fufmum · 03/11/2004 13:33

Hi SM, no don't apologise for asking i don't mind at all. Well obviously i had never in a million yrs thought i would be having my first child alone. But i had not been with the father that long and we were both surprised when i fell pregnant but happy to go ahead with it. Then i found out so many lies about him and realsied i loved a man who didn't exsist. It wasn't an easy choice but in the end i decided being on my own was the best thing for my child. If i hadn't been pregnant i would maybe have put up with the crap for longer but the mother instincts kicked in and i had to put my baby first.
I have the best mum in the world who has been there for me evry step of the way and she is going to be in the delivery room with me. My dad and rest of family are great too and i know if i need anything they would be there for me, i am very lucky!
I'm sure when my DS arrives i will look over at the other mums and give a little inward sigh when i see there partners visiting and looking all proud. But none will be as proud as i will be of myself for giving that baby the best chance i could at a fantastic life. I have a great boss who is giving me mat leave and pay and then i am going back to work with my baby boy as i am a nanny and can have him with me all day! There may be a few questions i will have down the line so thanks for offering your advice i will definately take you up on it!

smellymelly · 04/11/2004 09:53

Fufmum - It's great you have so much support, and to be able to take you baby with you to work is fantastic.

Like I said, I did 2 pregnancies on my own, and 2 births. In some ways I found it was easier, and I was proud of being a single Mum. My situation is very different now, but I wouldn't change a thing!

OP posts:
fufmum · 04/11/2004 10:41

SM i am very independent and as i have worked with children for 15yrs now i have my own way of doing things. So i guess it will be easier for me too in some ways. The ExP isn't even around anymore don't remember the last time i heard from him, so after my mat leave i will come back to London and it's just gonna be me and my boy!(Just how i want it!)
