It's me... I can't believe I get to start this!

I'm due 2nd Jan 2005... Actually AF is not due for 4 days(!!) but have done 3 tests and all positive. I am only 11 days pregnant.

It's a bit lonely here on my own, I hope there will be lots of you joining me soon, especially from 'ttc thread 6'.

Finally! I sat in the bath today looking at my belly when I had the most almighty kick and I actually saw my belly move...I was so shocked I actually shouted 'bloody hell' to which I had another huge kick and saw my tummy jump again!

Today is a bloody good day!!! xx

artyjoe · 15/09/2004 11:37

Hi Batlady

I too am breathless and find walking up one flight of stairs the equivalent to a marathon.

Although I too am eating a load of rubbish at the moment as I'm finding it difficult to fancy anyting other than junk and chocolate, I am not taking vitamin pills. I was taking Pronatal but when my morning sickness got very bad I stopped taking them and it eased off, I tried taking them again a few days ago and instantly had a few days of being nauseous again, so I'm giving up and hoping and praying that the bump is getting what it needs...at least it will get lots of calcium from the chocolate! I'm managing to get in Nectarines and Apples but this is about all in terms of goodness.

Have had a total of 6 glasses of alcohol since being pregnant, not bad in 22 weeks, but the new pregnancy report telling you not to drink a thing has peed me off! I'm choosing to ignore it as I intend to have at least another 6 glasses between now and when the baby is born for my birthday next week and DP's and Christmas...If they'd have discovered this before getting pregnant I may have felt different, but now I've had a few it seems silly to be wracked with guilt over it...or am I already a bad mother?

kirstyk · 15/09/2004 12:16

Batlady i am taking sanatogen pronatal vitimins, i have been since three months. Before that i was just taking folic acid. They seem to do the trick for me and i never really suffered, apart from one week, with morning sickness.
Pollyanna i know i shouldn't envy you women with the big bumps as im sure it makes life much tougher but I DO!! I am so fed up with feeling JUST FAT, only people who know me can see it's pregnancy and not a fat belly from stuffing my face
I was a size 18 2 yrs ago and lost 3 stone, i got to size 14 and was really happy. About 3 months later i fall pregnant and i still fit in my size 16 clothes at 23 weeks. I know some of you probably wanna hurt me as you may have had to buy new clothes but i reeeaalllyyy can't wait till i look obviously pregnant!
I have 3 more days to go till i find out boy or girlhurry up Saturday!!

artyjoe · 15/09/2004 13:09

Hi KirstyK, I do sympathise as I felt like that until a few weeks ago, I'm a size 20 so just felt even fatter. However, I tricked myself and others very easily...regardless of whether I could fit into my normal clothes, which I could, I bought maternity wrap around trousers and blouses...the ones I bought are so obviously maternity that even though you couldn't see a bump people assume there is one! I also, and still do, rubbed my tummy wherever possible which made me connect to bump rather than fat and gives other people the opportunity to ask you about pregnancy without worrying that you actually are just fat!

One thing though, you reap what you sow! I whinged continuously about feeling fat rather than pregnant and now, very suddenly, I can't do up my own shoelaces and my size 28 knickers (I joke you not) dig into me and I'm having to go to Mothercare on the web and buy some of those huge maternity knickers which I was kind of hoping to avoid .

Good luck on Saturday, I'm hoping to find out on Monday xx

kirstyk · 15/09/2004 17:41

LOL @ Artyjoe, ok i best shut up then
Thanks for the goodluck, same with you for Monday, i will let you know when i find out

artyjoe · 18/09/2004 12:37

Hi Guys, anyone started having trouble with constipation yet? My God I've been in agony for two days, sleeping has been a nightmare because of it :-(

As a first timer I thought the thread below in 'products' was worth looking at...don't know how to do a link though.. "What "must have" item that you bought for your baby/babies was a waste of money? "

Looking forward to scan on Monday but hope I manage to go to the loo by then or it could be a tad embarassing with all that belly prodding

smellymelly · 19/09/2004 05:01

Hi Ladies - Any news yet Kirsty??

Artyjoe - I've been blocked up since the day I bloody conceived! Try getting some Lactulose from the doc if it persists.

I'm taking Sanatogen vits too, and some really expensive fish oils that the pharmacist talked dh into! For brain development or something - the babies, not mine...mine has gone on holiday!
And pro-biotic drinks every day to help protect against allergies (read that on Mumsnet).

pollyanna · 19/09/2004 11:56

hi everyone, I had my scan on Friday - baby seems fine,

DD1 and dh pressurised me into finding out what sex the baby is - it's a girl! so i'll have 3 girls and one boy. DS wanted a brother, so we've been reassuring him that he will be extra special Poor thing with 3 sisters!! Any news from you Kirsty?

kirstyk · 20/09/2004 13:30

Hi ladies well the scan was amazing and worth every penny!! The woman who did it was brilliant she could tell within 10 secs what sex my baby was.......... It's a boy! A darling son, filling up just typing it i could burst with pride! We had it confirmed a few times he is a boy as he wasn't at all shy!!
My video is half an hour and is just awesome, he moves so much, which i was always telling people but until they saw it they didn't believe HOW MUCH he wriggles around!
I can't believe i am gonna be a mum i can't wait!
If anyone wants details of where i had scan i am more than happy to tell you it was the best thing i did!

artyjoe · 20/09/2004 14:58

Hi KirstyK, well done on your son, fantastic!

I had my scan today and they THINK it is a girl, but i am going back in two weeks as they couldn't check the vertical blood vessel due to the way the baby was lying...so we get another chance! My DP is now convinced that it is a girl, I'm a bit more reserved as I'd hate for it to be wrong, fingers crossed, 14 more days to go.

Great to see the baby pummelling at my belly with her fists, I thought they were too fast to be kicks!

Joe

kirstyk · 20/09/2004 17:40

Thanks Artyjoe
i will keep my fingers crossed for you for a girl!

Isn't it great seeing the movements? I could lie and watch it all day......... well that's until they start to hurt, not looking forward to that!

smellymelly · 21/09/2004 10:19

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to find out what sex I'm having.

Great news for everyone who has got what they want

Hi Guys, I realise it was only last week that I was complaining about constipation but now I have the complete and utter reverse and I'm in pieces. Any ideas as to what I can do to stop/relieve this? I have no idea what set it off, unless too much Whole Nut can cause this kind of violent reaction...I'm going to abstain tonight to see if there is a connection, but what else can be done? Any ideas?

Joe

smellymelly · 22/09/2004 11:18

LOL artyjoe - the joys of being pregnant eh??

kirstyk · 22/09/2004 13:46

Smelly melly- you said you drink pro-biotic drinks everyday, can i ask which one? I just bought those little bottles of yakult today, are they ok to drink whilst pregnant? It is really made up of skimmed milk but it says it is fermented!!?? Anyone else take it or know if it's ok to take?

kirstyk · 23/09/2004 11:55

Anyone? Well i won't take anymore till i find out better to be safe than sorry.
Another thing just thought i would mention, i am 24 weeks on sunday and all of a sudden my hormones have gone mad again with the emotional tears. I only have to see a mum with her baby and i'm off As i only shop in baby shops these days it is quite alot of babies i'm seeing, anyone else still teary?

Wid · 23/09/2004 14:06

Hi everyone. Glad to see you're all OK, except for the bowels! Mine are an enigma too - never know what's going to happen next; the only sure thing is the flatulence - lovely.

Haven't found out sex of baby as I love surprises, but congratulations to those of you who have. I have a DS already (3.5 yrs) and if I found out that I was having a girl this time, I don't think I cope with the thought of all those hardly-worn boys clothes I've saved going to waste.

Like your names ArtyJoe. I have lots of girls' names but struggle with boys'. At the moment we are considering Luke and Leo, but Leo always seems to cause people to frown; is it really so bad?

Feeling very well, but I think my bump is growing faster than it should. With 15 weeks to go, I'll be like a whale at term. Bending down is getting to be a pain, especially when picking up after DS and DH, but told DH how inconsiderate he was being, leaving things on the floor, so he's trying harder.

I can't believe how quickly the weeks are going by. I wasn't ready the last time round, but this time I'm determined to be ready - 'road to hell' and all that.

Hope you're all well. XXX

Wid · 23/09/2004 14:09

Whoops, KirstyK - forgot. I haven't a clue about these pro-biotic drinks, but am getting a little emotional: mainly with husband, though, and poor customer service!

artyjoe · 23/09/2004 15:15

Hi guys

I have no idea about the probiotic drinks either I'm afraid.

I seem to be having a daily struggle, my stomach is just aching all day and when I stand up after sitting down for a while it is actually very painful. Still running to the loo and was actually sick last night - not amused

With regards to emotions, I never went through a stage of not being emotional! Last saturday I was happily eating my breakfast to hear Ronan Keatings new song and blubbed into my breakfast for about half an hour!

I am argueing with my sister at the moment and I'm having to do it all on e-mail as I just start crying on the phone, which is not me AT ALL!

Wid, I can't believe you are saying the weeks are flying by, each day feels like a week in my life at the moment and this pregnancy feels like I should have given birth months ago Is it not enough that I had to wait 9 years to fall pregnant!

If I do this again it will be a bloody miracle

Joe

aloha · 23/09/2004 15:24

Yakult is fine to have when pregnant. It's fermented in the same way as, say, yoghurt. They are good for you anyway, but seem to help with allergies when taken during the last months of pregnancy so when your baby moves down the birth canal its tummy is colonised by good bacteria which seems to help prevent allergies. You can also pass on the protective bacteria via your breastmilk.

Twinkie · 23/09/2004 15:49

Joe - you will do it again your mind has this knack of forgetting all the horrid stuff and feeling slow and tired and heavy - I am now 33 weeks and am sitting here not feeling too bad today but yesterday I was awful and thought that I would most certainly write it all down so if I ever think of having another one I will be able to read and remember!!

smellymelly · 23/09/2004 15:54

Sorry Kirsty - I have no idea about Yakult, I have the Muller vitality, of Tesco's own ones.

fufmum · 23/09/2004 17:54

thanks aloha
changed my name ladies!
Did anyone see the programme on tv last night about miricle babies? It was on about 9pm and it was babies being born early it made me bawl my eyes out. Was very interesting but upsetting too!I'm more than happy for my DS to stay exactly where is his for now!!

pollyanna · 23/09/2004 19:46

I'm confused - who were you before fufmum?

I'm the same as you artyjoe (fufmum?) - I feel sick every time I eat and am running to the loo the whole time. It isn't morning sickness as it feels quite different, but it's being going on all week so far - I hope it stops soon.

I tried to watch that programme on miracle babies - lasted about 1 minute before I was bawling and had to turn over.

Kookie · 23/09/2004 20:21

Hi guys, I'm new to this thread so don't know what all the chat has been about so far, but I too am due January 2005, 19th if all goes well. This is my first pregnancy and I'm really excited but feeling incredibly overwhelmed by this whole 'being responsible for another life ' thing too. DH doesn't get this and can't understand why I panic the minute I have a twinge or a sniffle!! I agree with those who said the time is NOT flying by! I don't seem to be one of those mothers who 'blooms' during pregnancy!!!!
Are all new mothers as paranoid and panicky as me, or am I on my own and slowly going mad??!!
