It's me... I can't believe I get to start this!

I'm due 2nd Jan 2005... Actually AF is not due for 4 days(!!) but have done 3 tests and all positive. I am only 11 days pregnant.

It's a bit lonely here on my own, I hope there will be lots of you joining me soon, especially from 'ttc thread 6'.

Hi Kookie, congratulations! Have you had your scan yet? do you know what you're having?

I'm due on the 1st Jan. I'm also one of those people who definitely doesn't bloom. I feel sick for ages, can barely move and put on shed loads of weight! I have felt this pregnancy has gone fast so far though, I wonder if this is because it isn't my first, and tbh I am dreading the chaos that will happen when baby arrives (I already have 3 children age 5 and under) - so as far as I am concerned, although I'm looking forward to meeting baby, I'm not wishing the pregnancy away!

artyjoe · 23/09/2004 22:54

Hi Pollyana, it's not me who'se changed name, I think it is Kirsty! I have also been told today there is a nasty bug doing the rounds so I'm hoping I have got that as mine doesn't feel like morning sickness either, very different but equally crappy.

Twinkie, I have been writing a journal from week one thinking how wonderful it would be, I didn't realise it would read like a horror story! Hey ho, if the child ever plays me up as a teenager and I need to instill some guilt I'll have a written journal to remind her about

It's my birthday on saturday and DH is taking me to a beautiful Thai restaurant, I only hope I'm feeling better by then otherwise I'll cancel it and stay in and stuff my face with Whole Nut instead

fufmum · 24/09/2004 11:25

yep you were right artyjoe it's me!
I'm sorry you are feeling so rough, i have got the worst cold and can't take anything for it, is it ok for me to use vicks vapour rub as i can't breath?

fufmum · 24/09/2004 13:38

It's ok i went to chemist and they said it's fine to take.

artyjoe · 27/09/2004 10:03

Hi fufmum, hope you are feeling better today.

I've had a dreadful few days, real proper pain when trying to sit down or get up from a sitting position. I also had one bout of shooting pain in my cervix, but I haven't had that again otherwise I'd go to the hospital. I have tried changing my diet over the last few days as someone said I might have a compacted bowel and the pain does lessen if I go to the loo..managed to give myself piles through trying to go to the loo so much over the weekend now

Am going to wait one more day and then traipse off to the midwife again. Feel like a real neurotic but it's one thing having an ache and being uncomfortable, but this is proper pain, surely that's not good? Baby is still kicking so I'm assuming there's nothing wrong there, instinct tells me she's fine, but the pain has been consistent now for four days. I also can't find anything about pain in my pregnancy books to help.

Any advice?

Joe

fufmum · 27/09/2004 12:27

Awww Artyjoe sorry you are having a hard time I am feeling a bit better but have never had a cold last this long so feeling fed up.
Have you tried massaging your tummy in clockwise cirlces? It may just be your uterus stretching but better to be safe than sorry. Like you said she is still kicking so i'm sure she is fine but seeing your mid-wife will probably put your mind at rest, that's what she is there for afterall! Are you due for an ante-natal check? Let us know how you get on!

smellymelly · 28/09/2004 11:57

Hi Ladies. Artyjoe I left you a message on your other thread. I hope you are getting some answers today.

I have been busy buying baby stuff on the internet!! Am currently waiting for;

2 carseats
1 cotbed (to match the one we have already)
2 sets of cot bumpers and quilts.
2 moses baskets
loads of sheets and blankets
1 twin pushchair

oooh it's so exciting! I love buying baby stuff..

artyjoe · 28/09/2004 12:12

Know what you mean about the baby stuf...I did a wish list in mamas & Papas and as it was my birthday last week people have already bought my travel bag, cot and crib and bumper stuff...fab! Can't wait to see for sure if it is a girl or not next week as I'll be straight in there again!

Am going to midwife today as the pain isn't easing off and is now happening when i'm sat down so just need reassurance that it's nothing to worry about...no doubt i'll be labelled neurotic again but can't let that put me off just in case.

My DP bought Jerseygirl last night without actually knowing what it is about, the one with Ben Afleck and Jennifer Lopez...if you haven't seen it, don't be tempted while pregnant! The cover makes it all romantic and gives no indication that it is about pregnancy and childbirth...sooo needed that like a kick in the head last night!

Baby is kicking nicely today that's a reassuring feeling.

Hope you are all okay and looking forward to the winter babies!

Joe

fufmum · 28/09/2004 13:13

Glad you are getting it checked out Artyjoe let us know what mw says.
I have all my baby stuff now, my mum bought most of it for me as i am on my own so only have the one wage. I did manage to get a brand new electric breast pump and avent bottle warmer off a secondhand baby website, in the shops they would have cost me £65 i got them both for £15 Everything else is brand new and i am having so much fun buying blue stuff for my baby boy!
I have started playing music to the baby and reading too, he loves any music, takes after me!!

artyjoe · 28/09/2004 18:06

MW says probably bowel problem but sent me to doctor who says may be pre-eclampsia so I've now got to toddle off to the labour ward to see what they say. Bit of a drag but doctor says better to be safe than sorry..I'll let you know how I get on.

Joe

fufmum · 29/09/2004 11:34

You poor thing Artyjoe , well i will keep my fingers crossed for you. Hope the pains are easing up a little bit now!

artyjoe · 30/09/2004 10:03

Have come to the conclusion that doctors are crap.
Admitted into hospital at 5pm with abdominal pain and had to stay overnight until 5 yesterday...only for the pain to be ignored as they found an abnormal result with my liver function tests...but who bloody cares? My liver isn't giving me pain. My liver has nothing to do with my baby. I was told yesterday by a doctor who didn't actually touch me in any way that 'provided I had no abdominal pain that I shouldn't worry and could go home'...WHAT!! That's the only reason I went in...so I came out still in pain but with a liver complaint - fab.

I had bloods taken four times, which didn't hurt, but the midwives changed, a new one came up to me, tapped my hand twice and shoved a needle into the top of my hand...obviously I yelped with pain, at which she dragged the needle back out saying oh for gods sake I didn't even break the skin...to cut a long story short, she managed to live but I grabbed my notes and stormed out of the hospital in floods of tears. Am still in pain, hardly able to stand and it looks like this is it for me hey ho, maybe the trauma of being in the bed next to a woman who was in labour for five and a half hours before being taken to the labour ward might wear off by the time I have my second child Second child, who am I trying to kid?

Am going to check out other hospitals this weekend as I have no intention of giving birth in the one I've just spent a horrific night in.

Baby is still kicking so that's the main thing. Sorry for the rant but in my opinion people who are dealing with new lives should act as if they give a shit.

smellymelly · 30/09/2004 10:40

That sounds awful Artyjoe. So you didn't actually get any answers then? I would definitely go somewhere else if you can.

I rang my hospital yesterday as I have been worried about lack of movement from twin 2 and they told me to come in immediately, and when I did they scanned me within the hour. Twin 2 is actually fine, but now I'm worried as Twin 1 has a reduction in the amniotic fluid around her. They will scan me again in 2 weeks, and have said any problems at all, or worries day or night, then I should call them and go in to be checked.

BTW I thought it was normal to be left in for hours until you really need to go to labour ward, that happens in my hospital - I was climbing the walls when in labour with Ds before they took me to a labour room for a much needed epidural!

fufmum · 30/09/2004 12:22

Artyjoe that's terrible, i hope you find a better hospital! What is wrong with some midwifes? The one i had for my blood tests was an old bag too!
40 yrs she had done the job and when she found out i was to be a single mum she talked to me like she was a teacher and i was 5yrs old. If they are bored in their job then they should leave instead of bloody making us feel like crap!

fufmum · 05/10/2004 15:51

hello everyon
this thread has gone quiet lately, hope you are all ok! I had ante-natel check up today and had to give in a sample of urine as i forgot the last time. When will hear if there is a problem? I meant to ask the doctor this but as i had waited AN HOUR i was in a bit of a rush!Shall i give them a call in a few days?

smellymelly · 05/10/2004 16:24

Hi Fufmum, they should tell you straight away if there is a problem. You need to take a sample every ante-natal appt you have, so they can check for protein.

OP posts:
artyjoe · 05/10/2004 16:28

Hi Fufmum, every time I visit the GP or midwife i give in a urine sample and it is checked there and then...I'd be surprised if they didn't do this already and didn't mention it because there's nothing wrong...best to call though if you are worried.

I've been waiting until I had my tests as I seem to be spouting doom and gloom recently since my spell in hospital...but I've had another scan today and baby is done fine, 90% sure it is a girl, and most of the liver problems etc with me seem to be okay too, I'll know more tomorrow with the consultant.

Spent the day in Mamas & Papas, bought soooo much, including pink coat and dress and orange tights with flowers on, so very bless!

Also bought myself a new handbag as clothes are just depressing and am treating myself to three new hair colours on Thursday as I've managed to look dowdy the last few months and I've had enough now!

Am going to check out a new hospital on sunday as I hate the one i am supposed to be in so fingers crossed they'll take me.

Hope you are all well -Joe

fufmum · 06/10/2004 14:45

Thanks for the replies you two, I called my hospital and told them about it and they said he should have checked it then and there too! Anyway i will call surgery at 3pm when they re-open and i have made my next appiontment for the mid-wife at the hospital as my doctors dosen't have one! Only problem is i will go a week later than i should have because they are fully booked till 9th Nov, bloody hell, it's not easy is it!?
I could see my community mid-wife but i have found out it's the old bag who i saw for my blood tests so i think i will give that one a miss!
So my plan now is to see the doctor as normal in 4 weeks and then a week later have another PROPER check at hospital, they said that was ok to do.
That's it now though i'm not seeing him anymore after this next time from now on i'm sticking to the mid-wives!

fufmum · 06/10/2004 15:52

Got hold of GP and have been told urine sample was fine, hmmm i just feel fobbed off though tbh. not having a good day all together today. Found out yesterday that friend who was exactly same amount of weeks pregnant as me (25) gave birth last sunday!! Little girl weighed 1lb 11oz and is now fighting for her life !
So i am feeling very down, think my DS has picked up on this too as he hasn't been as active today.

artyjoe · 06/10/2004 16:06

Hi Fufmum

Know what you mean about DS/DD picking up on emotions...on top of going into hospital last Tuesday I also lost one of my best friends, trying to get DD to move around at all was ridiculous. Today at 25+2 she's kicking around and squirming and has been for hours, so obviously just taking time out while I was so down.

I've been in to see yet another consultant and yet more blood tests this morning but have asked them to push everything for three weeks time, and they have, just so I can have a break from being pushed around in hospitals and stabbed at with needles! I think you are doing the right thing with the midwives, unless you are having difficulty then stay away as long as possible!!

I have started to count this pregnancy in terms of six more weeks until 32 weeks, rather than 25 weeks gone, every monday I mentally tick off another week towards a healthy baby, so I think I know how you must be feeling about your friend.

Try to keep your spirits up and away from upset... as much as I wanted to I didn't attend the funeral yesterday of my friend as I felt it might adversely impact my baby Instead I worked my way through two packets of French Fancies and burnt my credit cards in Mamas & Papas

Take care

fufmum · 06/10/2004 16:14

Thanks Artyjoe that made me cry and laugh, bloody hormones are going great guns today! I can't believe it but you are 1 day behind me in pregnancy, i am 25w +3, cool.
I'll just be glad when today is over i guess it's normal to feel like crap every now and again! I appreciate the reply though and send lots of luck to you for the rest of the blood test results!
Take care x

fufmum · 06/10/2004 16:17

Btw very sorry to hear about you losing your friend that is so sad i think you did the right thing staying away from funeral if that's how you felt, i'm sure your friend understood!

Bakedbean · 06/10/2004 17:01

Hello. Haven't been around for a bit so just catching up. Really sorry to hear you two have been going through it a bit - I think Mamas & Papas and french fancies were definitely in order yesterday Arty Joe - really sorry to hear about your friend. Good luck with all your tests and hope you are ok too Fufmum. Everyone else seems to have been a bit quiet on here! Hope all is well with everyone.... the weeks are passing fairly quickly now and before we know it we'll be sharing our birth stories!

artyjoe · 06/10/2004 17:55

Weeks are passing quickly???

I feel like I've had this pregnancy for at least 18 months already

Good to hear all is going well BB, I can't wait for the Christmas thread to see if any of us go early - eek - I've made an apointment with my belly for 4pm on New Years Eve...if you don't ask...! x

Bakedbean · 07/10/2004 09:25

Oh Artyjoe - you poor thing! I'm really hoping I'm early too.... what's your due date? I'm 4th January, so just before Christmas would be nice, although I'm thinking that's just for this year -think of the chaos all the following years! Have you got plans over Christmas? I've got family I can go to locally, but not sure if I'll be able to get myself off the sofa by that stage!!
